To think their first meeting had been something of...A bit chaotic, and very much a pair of passing ships in the night. Both far too occupied with their own personal struggles and ambitions to see the possibility which had been before them. Although, Gwenifar had accepted, perhaps, it had been for the best to allow time to past. For both of them to grow and learn, because perhaps in their younger years, they may not have been as amicable to the other.
No matter the suggestions and teases from the others working in the quarantine. They had apparently seen something she and Gale had entirely missed. Both far too wrapped up within their own worlds, ignoring how others saw how their worlds wanted to collide.
Gwenifar tilted her head at his request and the sheepish smile. Something for her? She was quite sure he had been spoiling her well enough since they came to Waterdeep, with her needing to take a step or two back at times to not be overwhelmed. It was an entirely different life than she was to used to, to say the least.
"I'm quite sure I am in want of nothing except you but..." She conceded, moving to sit on the arm of the chair and allow him to rise to get whatever it was he seemed to have suddenly remembered.
She wouldn't deny she was incredibly curious as to what it was.
Gale gazed up at her, smiling softly as the blush grew on her cheeks. He enjoyed, perhaps more than he should, that he could pull those sorts of reactions from her. That they were reserved for him and him alone.
He leaned into her touch, and into the press of her lips against his eagerly. How did he ever get so lucky, as to gain the attentions of this amazing woman?
"I'm glad to hear it," Gale said, leaning forward to bump his nose against hers. "And I endeavor to bring you that same happiness every day for the rest of our hopefully long lives."
Gale could scarcely believe that the bossy cleric he'd met so many years ago would have ended up here, in his tower, with him. There first meeting had been the right place at the wrong time, but now the universe had managed to right itself, bringing them together again against all odds.
Which reminded him...
"If you'll permit me a moment, my love, I have something for you." He grinned sheepishly up at her. "If you don't mind."

The smile turning into a grin changed the heat on her cheeks to a warm dusting to a raging heat. He had noticed. Of course he had noticed. Everyone noticed whenever her cheeks changed hue due to how ghastly pale she was, paired with the red hair to only amplify it and—
Of course another wizard. They all had a tendency to flock together. Not that it really mattered, it shouldn't matter. Gwenifar had no idea why there felt like a pang of disappointment growing in her as he continued to speak of this Tara. She meant a great deal to him, just by how he described her.
His question, though, brought her back to her work. She had to focus on her job, not any other...Whatever it may be.
"No visitors." Her tone was stern, but then she paused to consider, brow furrowing. "The pox is highly contagious by touch to just about anyone, as you can see. We even have some cases among high elves. Why do you think Tara wouldn't catch it?"
Oh, was she blushing? Gale couldn't quite help the way his smile morphed into a grin. He'd dare say she was! Perhaps there would be a chance for him to win her over yet. As soon as he could get out of this blasted bed, at any rate.
At her next words, a chuckle escaped him. Oh yes, he had a feeling Tara would like Sister Gwenifar. Someone else to help keep him in his place, no doubt.
"Oh yes, Tara's quite intelligent," he said with a nod. "Quite the accomplished Wizard, in her own right." Of course, a lack of opposable thumbs did hinder that somewhat. But she more than made up for it with her shrewd nature and cleverness.
He hesitated a moment, wondering if he dared voice his next thought. Well, the sister still seemed in a good mood, might as well risk it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, after all. "Do you think she could visit? She wouldn't take up much space and I doubt she could catch the pox, besides."

Gwenifar smiled as he kissed her again, feeling ease settling in at his gentle attentions. Perhaps she worried a bit too much; what mattered was the man in front of her. The ease of his arm around her, stealing her away from the crowd, was a welcomed warmth. She settled into his guidance and step, still getting familiar with Waterdeep. It was, by far, the largest city she'd ever been to and it would take time to acquaint herself with how to navigate it.
But Gale was in his element. Blue eyes watched him curiously, noting how at ease he was with each step and path he took. His face was quite relaxed, seeming to be taking in the familiarity all around him as a welcomed embrace.
She laced her fingers within his, bringing his hand to her lips to press a kiss to it. Gwenifar enjoyed seeing him like this, seeing him happy and content. The warmth of being near him soon expanded to being all around them as they entered his tower.
Gwenifar couldn't help the small laugh from her as he pulled her into his lap, settling there with her arms resting on his shoulders. She gazed down, her own eyes matching his own adoration. Her hand moved to cup his cheek, his beard rubbing roughly against her skin.
"Quite the charmer, aren't you?" She teased him, although his words did bring a rosy hue to her cheeks. "And you, min hartje, were a vision yourself, you know." She leaned down to press a kiss to his lips, before pulling back slightly, resting her forehead against his.
"I don't think I could ever be happier than I am now, Gale."
"Of course, my love." As much as Gale enjoyed his family celebrations, time with his lovely new wife outranked them significantly. He leaned down to give her another kiss, lingering for a moment before wrapping his arm around her and leading the way back to his tower.
While there were always things happening in a city the size of Waterdeep, at this time of night most places were quiet. As they grew further from the party, the sounds of the ocean began to reappear, the waves lapping at the shore, the gulls screaming as they flew overhead. The things he had ached for, when they'd been on their journey to defeat the Netherbrain.
He'd even missed the smell of the salty sea air, laced with an undertone of something he could never quite place. It was just distinctly Waterdeep, and he adored it. Of course, he'd had a taste of it in Baldur's Gate, near the docks, but it couldn't compare to hearing it outside his bedroom every night.
Once inside, he settled in his plush armchair, pulling Gwen down onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around her tightly, nuzzling her shoulder and gazing up at her with wide, adoring brown eyes.
"You were the most beautiful bride I've ever seen," he informed her, pressing a kiss to her shoulder. "A radiant gem glowing in the Waterdeep sunset."

Normally, back in her village, a wedding festival would last a day at the most. It wasn't that people didn't want to spend more time celebrating, it was merely the cost was far too restrictive for the area. And so many could only sacrifice a day of work before getting back into the fields or shops to keep everything running smoothly.
Gwenifar supposed, in a place as populated as Waterdeep, there were other people who could do such work and it would balance out. She was surprised when Gale said he was limiting the festivities to a week. Even that would have been far too long back home.
It was exhausting. There were so many people to try to keep track of (even if she'd been told not to worry about it), and she was concerned about everyone enjoying themselves (she was told not to worry about it), and just thinking about everything going into it (she was told not to worry about it).
She was relieved when Gale took her to the side, settling into the moment of just him. This is what it was about. Just the pair of them. She smiled at his kiss, feeling some tension start to dissipate.
"It's...A lot," she confessed, looking a bit sheepish. She wanted to fit in here, with him, his life, and his family. But this was proving to be quite a feat in it of itself. Fighting another netherbrain might be easier! She gave a nod at his suggestion.
"Yes, I think a bit of time, with just you and I, would be a wonderful reprieve."
@tadbitfooled asked: stolen kisses while hiding away from a crowd . Gwen to Gale (this is what I can do now)
Dekarios parties were a thing of legend, often going for days at a time. And for weddings? Well, Gale had put a hard limit on a week long wedding, but he wasn't entirely sure that would stop them either.
A lot of it had been official ceremony of course, and all the things that went with that. But a large part was celebrating the new couple, with drinks and good food and merriment and anything else they thought the party needed. Gale was used to it and he was already exhausted. He couldn't imagine how poor Gwen felt.
So he stole her away, for just a moment, hiding in a dark corner away from his family. Besides, it had been far too long since they'd had a moment to themselves, on a day(s) that had been about them, no less.
He leaned down to kiss her, smiling against her lips despite himself. "How are you surviving, my love? We can abscond back to my tower for a few hours, if you'd like?" He didn't think anyone would really miss them, after all. By this time of the night, the wine had been flowing far too long for that.

The easy smile on his features caused a warmth to come to her cheeks. And she could only mentally curse herself and try to will it away. She was very pale in complexion; any sign of color change was apparent. Gwenifar did not want him noticing it, not at all. And it was silly for it to happen. Just due to a smile and—
The name Tara drew her attention and felt like a bit of a rock in the pit of her stomach. No idea why. She was sure he had friends and...Others. Besides, she had no idea who this Tara was and it didn't really matter, did it? He was her patient, simple as that.
"I think it's important for everyone to remember to have some humility, lest they lose sight of who they are and what's important to them." She gave him a bit of a smile. "So you ought to listen to this Tara. She seems to know what she's talking about."
Gale relaxed, giving her an easy smile. Yes, he'd certainly met the sort of wizard she talked about. He supposed he probably came off that way, to those that didn't know him. He liked to boast about his accomplishments from time to time, as every wizard did.
But there was a time and a place for it. And that certainly wasn't here, stuck in this ward.
"Well, I don't think anyone enjoys that," he answered sincerely. A lot of the other students had underestimated him, when at Blackstaff Academy. At least, until he backed up his word with magic. And stealing the Blackstaff may have helped things along, as it were. But he didn't think this was the time for that story.
"Yes, well... Tara always says I let my pride get the better of me all too often," he said sheepishly. "I will try not to let it do so again."

The warmth of the bed was welcoming and far too tantalizing to awaken early, as she often did. Not of her choice, but merely because she had work to do and places to be with her cleric duties. But she had been afforded a few days rest to make sure she didn't burn out at the Hospice.
And so with no urgency to awaken, she had settled in to sleep as late as she desired.
The feeling of soft hands around her started the groggy process of awakening, though, but the warmth which surrounded her tempted her to stay asleep. She took a deep breath, taking in the smell of paper, old books, and some mix of rose and salt. A soft smile came to her face, a small, pleased sound coming from her as she nuzzled closer to him.
"''S not a bad way to wake up," she said, her voice still heavy with sleep. She scrunched her nose in amusement at his affection, leaning in to press a brief greeting kiss to his lips.
She was quite content to stay just like that with him and idle the morning away.
@tadbitfooled asked: [ nose ] an affectionate gesture where partners rub their noses together Gwen to Gale
Gale loved his wife, more than anything in the entire world.
It was rare that he woke up before her, so he wanted to savor the occasion, lying beside her and just taking in her beauty. Of course, he probably should be sneaking down to the kitchen to make breakfast for her for once, but he couldn't bare to get up. Not yet.
Gently, trying not to wake her, he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close. He wished they could just stay here all day, curled up in bed like this. The perfect morning.
When Gwen made a little noise, he glanced down, giving her an apologetic smile as she looked up at him blearily.
"Apologies for waking you, my love," he said softly, leaning in to bump his nose against hers. "I couldn't bare not to have you in my arms for another moment."

Honestly, she was surprised he was speaking to her or how gingerly he was taking his dinner. She was expecting more haughty attitude to be had. It was not fault of hers her family had neither the resources nor her own health to have afforded an education like he most likely had in his youth. And how he would act merely reminded her of that at times, the frustration she suffered at missed opportunities.
His apology, though, caused her brows to raise ever so slightly. It seemed to be difficult for him, to say the least, but the mere fact he had done so was something indeed.
"I'm from a small village not far from Candlekeep," she started. "I would...Often run into young wizards who felt a bit...Higher up than me. To feel looked down on or not appreciated is not something I enjoy." She gave him a reassuring smile. "But you apologizing for hurting my feelings does give you quite the advantage over the others I've met in the past." There was warmth in her tone, a softness in her voice. Perhaps, even, the inkling of fondness buried within. "But if you make an attempt, I would...Greatly appreciate it in turn."
Gale was quiet, for once in his life, thinking over what Mother Clarice said. He certainly wasn't trying to earn the cleric's ire. He wanted her to like him, if anything. It seemed like she might, sometimes. Until he opened his mouth.
Unfortunately, he tended to get that a lot. Mostly he brushed it off, but for some reason he couldn't. Maybe because he was stuck with her for the foreseeable future?
When she brought him dinner, he took it gingerly, happy that she wasn't just throwing it at him.
"Sister, I," he paused, frustration bubbling up inside him as he tried to find the words he wanted. Why was this so hard? "I wanted to apologize. I was... caught off guard this morning, and treated you unfairly because of it. I... can't promise it won't happen again, but I'll try to make the effort to ensure it doesn't."

She had been doing her prayers, but had smelled the stew cooking and it drew her attention. More importantly, though, what drew her attention was who was making the stew. Watching him with his back to her brought a small smile to her lips and all she wanted was his nearness.
At his remark, she couldn't help the smile, pressing a featherlight kiss to his shoulder.
"It's also for you, you know," she teasingly chided him. "You need vegetables just as much as I do."
She rested her cheek against his shoulder, taking in the brief moment of calm in their chaotic life.
"I love you."
@tadbitfooled asked: 🤗 to hug my muse from behind. Gwen to Gale
Gale smiled as Gwen's arms slipped around his waist, pausing in his dinner prep to glance over his shoulder at her, one of his hands resting over hers clasped around his midsection.
"Hello, my love. Are you here to make sure I'm putting vegetables in the stew?" he teased. "Rest assured, I'm chopping them right now. Just for you."

Gwenifar closed her eyes, relishing in his nearness. It was something she knew she would never be sated for. To have him near her, the comfort and warmth he gave to her. A tender smile game to her face at his words and she leaned in to press a kiss to his lips.
"And I'd be a fool to let you go," she told him. She brushed the tip of her nose against his, smile broadening. "Where else would I find someone who fits my soul so well as you do?"
@tadbitfooled asked: ❝ every time you smile at me, i memorize it. i remember each moment that i get to be the one to bring out that light inside you. no matter what happens between us, that’s what i’ll remember. ❞ - Gwen to Gale
Gale's gaze softened, as it always did when it fell on Gwen. His affection and adoration for her was unparalleled, unmatched by anything in this plane or any other.
But to hear her talk about him that way? With the same unbridled affection and adoration? He didn't quite know what to do with himself.
He reached out to cup her face, letting his forehead rest against hers. "You are the most amazing woman I've ever met. I'd be a fool to let you go."
