taemin had always had difficulty coping with lonesomeness, leaving him becoming a dull spirit. though, when a new kid moved into the vacant house next to his, he couldn’t help but feel slight joy in his heart. 

one week after the family moved in, taemin noticed the new boy being in clear view from his bedroom window. at night, he would occasionally peer over to witness the boy dancing to faint music in his bedroom. this made taemin more eager to get to know this particular boy.

taemin came up with a clever plan. he took out a large notepad and a sharpie pen. he wrote the words, “HELLO STRANGER, MY NAME’S TAEMIN :)” in large print. taemin waited until he could see the boy from his window. he took a stray pencil he had laying around and threw it at the boy’s window, making a “thump” sound hitting the glass. the boy looked up in confusion and slight annoyance. taemin hurriedly grabbed his notepad and faced it towards the boy. the boy briefly smiled before scurrying to find a paper of his own to write on. 

minutes later, the boy comes back with a crumpled piece of paper that read, “MY NAME IS KIBUM :D WHY DON’T WE GO OUTSIDE AND TALK. I DON’T HAVE A LOT OF PAPER...”  taemin smiled at his response and gave him a quick thumbs up. 

taemin sat outside on his porch in the cold in hopes of seeing kibum. just when taemin was about to get up and go back inside, he hears his name being called. “hey taemin there you are!” he looks up to see a fair-skinned figure standing over him with a cheesy grin on his face. taemin was in awe of the boy’s features, only able to let out a faint, “hello.”  kibum sat next to him, visibly shivering. “aren’t you cold? you aren’t wearing a jacket and it’s nearly freezing.” taemin knew the answer to his question, but he genuinely didn’t know what else to say. he took off the jacket he had, carefully resting it on kibum’s shoulders. “oh look, now you’re going to get cold you loser.” taemin was left surprised. did he not want his offer? there was a short moment of silence. kibum rolled his eyes and wrapped his arms around taemin, making sure he shared the warmth the jacket provided. 

taemin couldn’t hold in his emotions, he smiled at kibum, gums visible and all. “i kind of like being like this, very cozy,” kibum spoke up. taemin nodded as for he was unable to form proper sentences at the moment. the breeze began to pick up and the jacket was no longer able to keep the two of them warm. 

“i have to go back home now, taemin, it’s getting a little too cold and my pretty face might crack.” kibum used his hands to frame his face, emphasizing his statement. his face really was pretty, taemin thought. “i hope i can see you around sometime soon, kibum.” kibum shot one last smile as he quickly ran back to his house.

taemin sat on his bed grinning to himself about the interaction he had with kibum. there was just one thing particular thing that he couldn’t stop thinking about.

“i forgot to ask for my jacket back.”

. . . cold weather, warm hearts

it was already late december which means the peak of winter snowfall was upon you. you were spending your afternoon under a warm blanket with your boyfriend, taemin, watching a movie you weren’t quite paying attention to. every so often you were staring at your phone looking at your friends posting online about how they're spending their days out in the snow with their significant others. that itself brought you motivation to shoot taemin a hint. “you know, it’s quite snowy outside. there’s a lot of other people in the snow today.” taemin’s eyes no longer looking at the tv screen, but now at your own. “is this you telling me you want to go outside? you know how i’m not the biggest fan of cold weather.” his face turns into a pout as he brings his hands up to your face. “it’s so nice out and what if it never snows like this again?” you get up from your seat to add emphasis as taemin chuckles slightly at your behavior. “oh fine, but you owe me for this.” he says in defeat as you run off to get ready.

you drag taemin out to a park where there was a large amount of untouched snow. your first move was to drop down and make a snow angel. as you’re moving your arms and legs you look over to see taemin standing above you, laughing. “there’s no way i’m doing this by myself. lee taemin get your butt down here and make a snow angel with me.” as much as he would want to, he couldn’t protest your request. he lays down beside you, copying your moves while fake shivering. “maybe this snow thing isn’t too bad. i’m kinda getting used to it.” he stops his movements to look at you. you both got up and made your way to a nearby bench. you began feeling colder than you would’ve liked. taemin takes note of that and pulls you in his arms, his body heat providing you with just enough warmth to make you feel comfortable again. he speaks up after a few minutes of silence, “you know how i said you owe me something for pulling me out here?” he then takes your face in his hands and pulls you into a kiss. your rosy cheeks get rosier when he pulls away. “let’s go back home, i’m starting to freeze.” though his smile was already enough to warm your heart, you had to admit that you were freezing too. taemin takes your hand as you walk your way back home.

. . . warm coffee

sitting on the couch waiting for the arrival of your boyfriend, chan, was one of your favorite pastimes. you fidgeted with your hands for many minutes before you heard the sudden jingle of a few keys at the door of your shared home. swift feet come your way as chan catches you before you’re able to fully stand, causing the both of you to fall back onto the soft couch. “i missed you today, princess.” his gleaming eyes stare at your own. “you always know how excited i get waiting for you to come home, channie.” your face is cupped by his warm hands, he pulls you into a soft kiss. his satiny lips were what you needed after your tedious day. you picked up a flavor that felt so familiar. the way he held you, the way he would assure you he loved you, he always felt so cozy. you pull back from him, taking a good look at his structured face as he does the same to your own. you remember the flavor of what his lips tasted like, it fills you with content as you quietly whisper to yourself, “warm coffee.”

. . . saturday night

you had been working your heart out on a book you have been writing. your fingers begin to ache as you pull through to complete your goal. you haven’t slept in days, maybe weeks, but you needed to finish this portion of writing. your boyfriend chan was beginning to feel worried over your actions, being the general hypocrite that he is, he pleads you to take a breather. he had always sat beside you when you worked, just observing. he’s had enough tonight. he spontaneously closes your laptop and pushes it away from you. you exclaimed, you were annoyed but not annoyed enough to become infuriated with him of course. chan soon tackles you on the bed. he scoots himself up, to where the both of you were comfortably laying on your queen-sized mattress. chan sighs as he engulfs you into a large hug, the warmth of his embrace infatuating you. you sink to his level. he calmly pecks you on the nose, you feel your face warm up. chan proceeds to play with your hair, mumbling i love you’s and other kind words. your view finally dims as you finally get the rest you had deserved.

“sweet dreams, love. i love you” chan whispers.
