the downstairs neighbors who’d whined and threatened to file noise complaints against daesung for the past three years have finally moved out, and he thinks that it calls for a celebration. the first thing that he’d done when he heard the news was go out and buy just dance 2021 ― a game he’d already been excited for, but previously thought he wouldn’t have the joy of experiencing due to their eagle ears and his habit of stepping too loudly. needless to say, he thinks that it’s a sunny day in paradise as ‘yo le llego’ blares out of his television’s speakers and he dances in a cleared-out space in his living room with taesung.

it’s only the second song―before this, he’d chosen ‘without me’ by eminem as a warm-up―so he’s still dancing a little too aggressively, steps thudding noisily on the hardwood floors. “imagine if when you’re on stage, you didn’t see the audience, but a just dance screen and it tells you how well you’re executing your own dance moves. everyone’s like, wow! look how passionate he looks! he was born for the stage! really, you’re just trying to get a perfect score.” he goes silent afterwards, taking a few seconds to focus on finishing the dance as it’s coming to an end. then, he adds, “imagine that it keeps telling you you’re just ‘ok’. you think there’s anyone who’d rage quit?… would you rage quit?”

once the song ends, he steps to the side to pick up his glass of water from the center table that had been pushed aside specifically for this purpose. “you can pick the next song,” he offers absently before taking a sip from the glass.

taesung’s friendship with daesung was one that many people most likely would have found to be odd. two guys who were pitted against each other for the chance to debut in an industry that was cutthroat ended up being such close friends. who would have thought that would ever happen? but if one knew the two men and how their personalities were, they wouldn’t have been all that surprised by the notion. especially with how friendly and amiable taesung was, it was easy for him to collect friends as if they were infinity stones. he enjoyed the time that he spent with daesung. whenever they both had a few hours of free time that they could spare, taesung would suggest that they hangout with one another, and daesung would almost always agree to it. 

their hangout time consisted of doing a litany of things, however that particular day, daesung decided to break out his just dance gaming system. now, taesung wasn’t the best dancer, not by a landslide. even compared to other idols without dance positions he kind of fell flat, always a step behind. but what he lacked in technique he made up for in enthusiasm and energy. “i think that would make me more nervous dancing on stage than i already am.” he may not have seemed like it, but he always felt a little tinge of anxiety during performances where he had to dance - which was pretty much all of them. he didn’t want to mess up or make a fool out of himself. “i don’t think i’d rage quit.. i’d probably get really embarrassed and self conscious about my dancing though. even more self conscious.” 

he brushed his hair out of his face, trying to even out his breathing a little bit before he reached for his own glass of water. “oh, i know the perfect song.” he started going through the genres, selecting the k-pop option, and pulled up one of his favorite femme fatale songs - ddu-du ddu-du.

SELF PARA

- january 26th, 2021. - gold star board meeting room. - taesung’s reaction to gold star’s plans for origin for the rest of 2021 + a little confrontation between him and origin’s manager. - word count: 655.

the muted sound of taesung’s fingers strumming against the wooden table he was seated at rang throughout his ears like a bass drum. it was quiet but deafening at the same time, although not deafening enough to drown out the sound of their managers’ pr team’s and even bang sungyoung herself’s voice. all he could think about was the fact that he, along with the rest of the members of origin, wouldn’t be catching any breaks for the foreseeable future. with gold star’s obsession with them reaching an even wider audience, they were pushing their foreign market promotions full force. it seemed as though they would be spending most of their time in 2021 outside of south korea. 

they had just finished the first handful of tour dates they had lined up, and taesung was still shaking off the feeling of jet lag. just the thought of having to continue their world tour was daunting. he enjoyed performing, it was his life and very important to him, but it could all get very overwhelming after a while. it seemed as though ever since they had blown up a few years back, gold star expected them to always be on the go. he didn’t like complaining, especially because he knew that there were so many other people who would kill to be in their place. 

he didn’t complain, but that didn’t mean he didn’t try to make his voice heard. he lifted his hand, grabbing the attention of origin’s manager. “manager-nim, what about what we discussed a few days ago on the plane?” he had talked to him a few days prior about the possibility of him having the opportunity for him to have an official solo debut and not just solo tracks on origin’s albums. he wanted to be able to promote his own music, something that would be damn near impossible if he were going to be out of the country with origin for the majority of the year. 

the manager shared a look with another gold star executive - a look that taesung didn’t fail to catch. his eyebrows furrowed and he knew that he had just made himself look stupid. his manager had told him that he would talk about it with the higher ups before the company meeting so that it could be discussed and people would have time to think about it before the discussion happened. the older male had obviously lied to taesung’s face, or he had forgotten about it. 

“now’s not really the time to discuss that now, taesung-ah.” the words were patronizing and didn’t help to placate him in the slightest. it quickly became obvious that he hadn’t mentioned it to the higher ups at all. he had lied to taesung, and the young idol found himself more hurt than angry. however that hurt seemed to present itself as anger. 

taesung’s fists clenched and he opened his mouth to speak. 

“well, when is it going to be the right fucking time to-” he was quickly silenced with a hand raised and a stern look from his manager. he knew that he had one of two options; he could either keep fighting and arguing, further making himself look irrational and irate in front of their ceo - who had been sitting there silently listening the entire time, or he could let it go and call his manager out on it later. 

he bit down on his tongue to keep himself quiet. he couldn’t help but feel like a berated child. there he was, damn near thirty, and he was being silenced as if he were a little kid. taesung usually wasn’t one to display such outbursts of anger, but there was only so much one could take before they snapped. he stayed quiet though, his jaw clenched throughout the remainder of the meeting. he’d talk to his manager about it later, and he definitely wouldn’t be holding back.

KIM TAESUNG is the LEADER AND MAIN RAPPER of ORIGIN under GOLD STAR MEDIA. He was born on JANUARY 1, 1992. He looks a little like KIM JIWON (BOBBY) OF IKON.

yo yo, i’m lee and i’ve brought this little softie taesung here to you all. i don’t have any plots written because i suck at writing out plots and i like to think that i’m much better at brainstorming than preplanning. do us both a favor and don’t read his bio either, i hate how i wrote it but i don’t know how else to write it?? trust me, i’m much better at writing threads and shit, i promise!! anyway, onto taesung. 

stuck out like a sore thumb in his very large family. he’s the fourth little one of eight kids, and he looks like his grandfather (father’s father), who wasn’t quite conventionally attractive and didn’t fit korea’s beauty standards. 

he was constantly reminded as a child that he looked different from his siblings and from his parents, all of whom would more or less be considered beautiful by their society’s standards. it got to the point where even his siblings would tease him sometimes and his father would join in here and there. 

his mother was the only one who would constantly remind him that he’s handsome and that he’s her baby no matter what he looks like and they’re still a family. (yeah, he’s a mama’s boy, what about it) 

he first started getting into the hip-hop and rap scene when he was around the age of eleven. he discovered the genre and instantly fell in love with it. he would listen to both korean and western rappers and it didn’t take long for him to get into writing his own lyrics and stuff by the time he became a teenager. 

his parents were actually very supportive of his love of music. it was the first time they saw him so passionate about something and they didn’t want him to lose that passion. 

he became a trainee under gold star when he was eighteen in 2010. he was accepted because of his rap skills, so his time as a trainee was mostly spent trying to better his singing and dancing, both of which are pretty weak. more so his singing though. he can’t carry a tune, which is why he usually just sticks to rapping. his dancing has improved leagues though. 

his time on who’s next?: origin story fucked with his self esteem a bit. netizens would praise him for his talent, but bash him for his looks in the same breath and it was just a really confusing time for him. he became extremely self conscious of his appearance and started to think that he would eventually end up holding his team back all because of how he looked. 

fortunately for him, that wasn’t the case and they ended up winning the show and debuting just a few months later. when origin was met with harsh criticism for their music in their rookie years, he was hurt. he contributed a lot to origin’s music from the very beginning and to have his work bashed like that upset him a bit. though it made him work harder to become a better songwriter and eventually producer. 

it still hasn’t fully settled in yet that origin is so famous and known on such a global scale. he still thinks of himself as kim taesung, the little kid who wanted to be a rapper. when in all actuality, he’s a global star at the age of 29 (30) lol. it’s a lot for him to take in and he gets overwhelmed sometimes. 

desperately trying to get gold star to agree to giving him a solo debut, and pissed off that they’re forcing them into touring for basically the entire year, before making them release another english and japanese albums before another korean comeback. so he’s just hoping that he’ll be able to release a solo before 2094 :) 

he’s a sweetheart ngl he loves his members and takes care of them like he does his siblings. he’s a giver and puts people ahead of himself, which is what makes him such a good leader. on the flip side, as a leader, he’s tough and protective of his members from a performance and business standpoint as well. he defends them when he feels like they’re being mistreated, and makes sure that they don’t push themselves too hard during performances. 

is known for being one of the more friendlier idols in the industry, having friends in a bunch of other groups and even being friends with actors and underground artists. 

still self conscious about his physical appearance, but he’s trying to work on his self esteem. give this bb some love and tell him how pretty he is.
