The only person who has actually seen Kaeya's right eye after the immediate treatment post-Confrontation is Adelinde. He adamantly refuses to let anyone else see under it, especially those like Jean or Diluc who knew him best. The thought absolutely makes his gut churn. He would do anything to make sure no one catches sight of his eye if he can help it. Anything.
#hc; kaeya#//Adelinde is the only one; because he's the only one he can truly never say no too#//If she wants to check up on how his eye is; he'll only ask they move to a room where they can be alone to do so#//Jean's tried to convince him to let her see it after she got her Vision and realized its healing properties#//He adamantly refused#//Let the healers see it only ONCE; & their reactions made him genuinely consider if he should let them get away with the knowledge of it#//Spun up some tale why his eyes were mismatched & the burns as awful as they were to stave them off#//But from that point on; would NOT let them see it. If anyone was treating his eye; it would be HIM and HIM alone#//Is probably why it didn't heal up as well as it could have under their care. Can still sort of see; but nowhere near as clear as the othe#//Most of the folks who treated him and saw his eye left with Varka. He has lingering paranoia of what they could say abt him to Varka#//He's even snapped at Klee for trying to see; having been playfully trying to steer her away from taking the patch off#//Then just Panicked when he felt the string loosen. he felt so awful afterward; esp with how she'd burst into tears#//Anyone trying to or being perceived as trying to take off the patch WILL get a nasty strike of frostbite#//Which is why it takes a MASSIVE amount of trust to touch even that side of his face#//He esp doesn't want it seen immediately after using Abyssal energy; its influence is VERY noticeable there in particular#//Diluc is the one he'd loathe to see it the most; but not over a grudge; he's worried that in the (High Unlikely) case of him still caring#//That Diluc might blame himself for how the injury resulted. And/or try to 'help' with/talk abt it. And Kae doesn't want that at ALL#//There's also a lingering fear that Luc might in fact say the opposite and allude that Kae DESERVED the scars/affliction#//Which Kae wouldn't contest (nor does he think Luc is cruel enough to); but it Devastate him to hear it nonetheless#//Kae'd rather live in a permanent limbo wondering how Luc would react than actually find out; thanks#//Not even other Khaenri'ahns like Dainsleif are exempt; bc he doesn't want to say his usual cover story for the burns#//Wouldn't be as believable to the likes of them compared to the other Mondstadters

SYNOPSIS: Kaeya has a lot of things he enjoyed about you. Or, well, admired, to be frank.
CW/s: tooth rotting fluff, short drabble, kaeya is a hopeless SIMP (/silly), tbh he's just a silly guy who can't confess if his life depended on it (and... It did lol), can be interpreted as platonic or romantic (it's both, but it's a slow transition from platonic to romantic hehe)
NOTE: hi, this drabble is for @ryuryuryuyurboat for @ecrin-de-litterature's "kiss (don't tell)" event! I hope you enjoy a drabble of Kaeya being a hopeless simp because as much as I'd like to write a full blown date with him, I've been busy since college and I want to curl up and pass away. orz.
Tumblr media
Kaeya never says a lot about the person he admires.
For him, the Cavalry Captain had more than enough to take care of. Maybe it was due to the job that kept him busy, or even because of how life gave him a batch of lemons that he needed to deal with.
But when it comes to certain people like who he's seen now, it made him feel as though he became but the same child when Cyrus adopted him all those years ago.
He still remembered the first time you two met—you were one of Lisa's attendants. An assistant, one could say. You're always available whenever Lisa isn't feeling the urge to check in the library, which is often, and Kaeya had decided to try and see what you're like.
Sure, you may have panicked and treated him like a stranger, but it wasn't long for you two to get close. Soon, you're treating him like you two have been friends for years, joking and laughing over certain things.
Kaeya couldn't help but smile. He always liked seeing others express joy when he couldn't.
Though, little by little, the dynamic seem to change. Others pointed out to him that you and Kaeya had been together for quite a while now, always speaking and chatting over the most mundane things.
Petty drama from the knights, Lisa's recent books and those who borrowed arriving late, the many foreigners that came about when the traveler would be busy in another region... You two had a lot to talk about, and sometimes, he didn't notice how much you two could never stop speaking of such things.
It was stupid, he's aware, but he wouldn't lie and say he didn't like it. On the contrary, he enjoyed that time being spent on something he considering to be enjoyable.
You made his days less unbearable. Like he can wake up one day and think that things will be fine.
He admired that charm from you. You make it seem so... natural.
There were even moments that the two of you shared. He remembered your first Windblume festival with him, the first time you've spent working for a year with Lisa (it was your work anniversary, he joked to you once), and even down to when you two travelled to different nations together.
He's seen it all— your highs, lows, and even the turnarounds. He's heard you rant and ramble of the nations, and yet he felt his pride raise when you'd return to Mondstadt, still calling it your home.
It was clear that you have seen that place, out of every nation, as the best. In return, he did his best keeping it safe. Although, there had been moments he would mess up.
He may act confident, but when alone, he'd feel like he's a lost child again. He loathed that feeling.
The first time you've seen him act like it was when you two spoke of each other's pasts. Kaeya has told you what happened between him and Diluc, and he could never forget the way you hugged him for hearing his voice crack.
He cares for Diluc, like how he cares for you. However, how could he say the same for his adopted brother? Would he ever do the same thing you did to him?
... Perhaps. Perhaps not, even.
Still, he couldn't help but think how much he can even handle this feeling. It's a secret he's kept that your actions made him feel like he can be free, yet he kept himself trapped by will.
He was trapped in the feeling of admiration and envy, clashing and fighting against each other. It made his heart soar and ache when things happen, both because of you and because of himself.
He felt envious of you. He wanted to say that to you, but seeing you smile got rid of that envy.
...
It was a strange conundrum. One that left him sleepless for nights on end... And that's when it clicked.
He realized that it was a form of self-sabotage.
Kaeya didn't want to ruin the relationship you two had as friends, so he kept it under lock and key. He threw the key away, denying that he felt something to you. Denying that he felt as though he loved you that way. He couldn't. He didn't even know the answer.
...
It was stupid to worry. It truly is.
But now? How could he not worry?
He's done this to himself. Even if others told him to say it, to utter those words he forbade himself from speaking, he kept his mouth shut. You two are friends, and he's far too used to admiring you and your acts from afar.
He's craved to admire someone that would make him feel this way, and he got what he asked. Although, he couldn't bring himself to hate you for charming him like that.
After all, that is what makes you you. And he doesn't want you to lose the only thing that fits you perfectly.

Just realized i have a penchant for Kaeya fighting to-be Diluc’s suitors or partners to the most non-violent and aggressive things ever-- like dance battles, sports matches, who can make the best snowcones, etc.
Its probably because, despite how much Kaeya wants to keep him away from all that, he doesnt want any bad blood between all parties involved and just wishes for Diluc’s happiness
So he fights them in any way that isnt an actual physical fight or battle. Although id imagine if this was Chiluc, he'd get really close to just straight up punching Childe in the face AHAH
Oh Kaeya, Childe is a bit battlecrazed-- if you introduce him to fights that arent "fights", you have just created possibly the most dangerous skill monkey in all of Teyvat.
Imagine if he accidentally challenges fucking zHONGLI to a history battle AHAHA-- KAEYA WOULD GET FUCKING FLOORED--
Oh my god, Kaeya goes to challenge Itto but Itto is 10 billion steps ahead of him and challenges him to an onikabuto battle-- KAEYAS GONNA HAVE TO CRAWL AROUND ALL OF INAZUMA TO FIND A BUG FOR THIS-- DILUC IS OFF TO THE SIDE WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED THAT BROUGHT HIM TO THIS POINT AHAHAHA
Highkey feel like Albedo would be the only one that Kaeya would approve of, but itd still be hilarious if he challenges him to something tho so-- Kaeya v Albedo, carnival/arcade games, i feel like Kaeya would go for this since Albedo is a little too focused on his research to play these during festivals and stuff. He might have a chance if he picks the game carefully
Thoma might also be someone Kaeya approves but he hAS TO PROTECT HIS BROTHER DAMMIT SO CHALLENGE IT IS-- windgliding race, amber is the referee. Hes betting on the fact that hes been stuck in Inazuma for a while and hadnt had the chance to freely windglide due to the constant lightning. Too bad for Kaeya, Diluc is a great windgliding teacher and its like Thoma never even stopped windgliding for years--
What the fuck would Kaeya even challenge Xiao to-- oh my god i got it while i was writing this-- the fUCKING PILE-EM-UP GAME AHAHAHAHAHAH-- JUST-- THE IMAGE OF THE CAVALRY CAPTAIN OF MONDSTAT AND THE VIGILANT YAKSHA ADEPTUS XIAO GLARING DAGGERS AT EACH OTHER AS THEY TRY TO PRECARIOUSLY PILE UP FOOD IS HILARIOUS TO ME AND IS ENOUGH FOR ME TO SUGGEST IT AHAHAHA
Eula, eula, eula, what would he challenge her to? Oh my god. Dance off. Eula thinks shes gonna win because she dances a lot in her free time but then Kaeya just turns to Venti, goes "gimme a beat", and starts fucking bREAKDANCING-- THIS IS NOT THE DANCING EULA EXPECTED BUT SHES TRYING HER BEST--
Tumblr media
So the only one I think Kaeya would actually approve of is Thoma. cause he knows Thoma is a good guy. Like everyone else can screw off even Albedo. Cause you can't convince me, Kaeya fully trusts Albedo. You just can't. Like yeah, they bond over caring for Klee, but still, Albedo gives the vibes he has his own goal and will place them above all else. Also, Albedo and Diluc would never talk about their relationship, so Kaeya would hear about it until Klee spills the beans about them planning to get married or something.
And funny enough, Kaeya would start out liking Zhongli but quickly grow to LOATH him as he sees Diluc buy everything for him and ends up probably convinced that Zhongli is totally in it for Diluc's money. Probably ends up as the one Kaeya hates the most. Cause with the other, he can kind of see how well they treat Diluc and the effort they put in. It is much harder to see that with Zhongli.
Eula is not allowed cause she's obviously trying to use Diluc to clear her name.
Xiao is probably the one Kaeya grows to like the most and ends up slotted behind Thoma. Because I can see Kaeya noticing how Xiao is always so very careful with Diluc. And honestly won't talk about really anything until you talk about Diluc. So Yeah
So here is Kaeya's rating of Diluc's suiters.
Thoma -> Xiao-> -> Itto -> Eula -> -> -> Albedo -> Childe -> -> -> -> -> Ayato->-> -> -> -> -> -> Donna -> -> -> -> -> -> -> Zhongli
Also, none of this means Kaeya will stop being a little shit to Diluc's partners. It just means he's less likely to try and cause problems.

Alright fuck it I'm posting it
The following is (I believe?) the first bit of writing I've ever posted online.
Yes, it is Genshin Impact fanfiction. If you're going to say something negative, say it about the writing, not the subject. Don't be an asshole about it.
Anyway, here it is.
***
Kaeya Alberich was in love.
That kind of news would send all of Mondstadt spinning into a frenzy- one of the most eligible bachelors in the City of Freedom, head-over-heels for some mysterious figure. The gossip train would never stop- the people would lose their minds, and never take their attention off of him again. They'd work themselves into a craze, destroying any semblance of order- possibly permanently.
That was why he had to make sure no one would ever find out.
And certainly not because he knew it was unrequited, and that he wasn't worthy of requited love, anyway.
He just wanted to make sure the city stayed in order, to lessen the workload of his fellow knights. That was all.
Self-loathing threatened to eat him alive- a common occurrence, really- but today was far worse than most. So much worse, in fact, that he'd gone to A Cat's Tail to drink, instead of his usual haunt- he didn't want to risk running into Diluc. Not when he was in such a bad state. He didn't need to contemplate jumping off the statue of Barbatos again.
The last time he'd done so, he'd stood on the statue's head, staring down. It was so late, so dark, that no one would even see him- and yet, just when he was about to take that jump, Sister Rosaria's voice broke the roaring silence in his mind. She talked him down from the edge, as she'd done for him so many times over the years- and as he'd done for her. They owed each other their lives more times than they could count, and trusted each other more than anyone.
He'd considered inviting her to drink with him. Telling her everything. She was the only one he'd be comfortable saying it to- he was comfortable with anything when it came to Rosaria. Always had been. She was the only person who had seen him drunk- really, truly drunk- and she'd undoubtedly seen him naked more than anyone else. They'd changed in front of each other, bathed in front of each other- they'd even hooked up with people in the same room. Hell, they had hooked up some nights, when neither of them had felt like sleeping with strangers. Nothing was uncomfortable between them.
But he didn't think he could talk about this yet- not even with her. Because how could he even put it into words? The feeling wouldn't let him. He thought about it, and all capacity for coherence left him. It was the most beautiful moment of his life. He'd heard that haunting, beautiful sound, and knew- he'd felt it instantly. He was ensnared from that alone, and he'd never be free. Without even thinking, he'd followed that sound. Into Dragonspine. He didn't even feel the biting cold- didn't feel the snow crunching beneath his shoes, or the cold wind blowing over his chest. There was only that Siren's Song- and then, her.
She stood at the water's edge, facing away from him. She held a bone whistle to her lips, its song- its beautiful, ensorcelling melody- echoing off the mountain, until Dragonspine itself seemed to sing to her, the notes carrying on the wind like the seeds of a Dandelion. Barbatos' work, no doubt- blessed archon, for granting him the chance to see such a wondrous scene. And then, she started to dance, and he felt his heart stop.
The dance was one he'd seen before, at midnight galas at the Dawn Winery. He knew every step- from his time with Master Crepus, and even before- and he'd danced it himself with many a faceless partner. But he'd never seen it like this.
The dance was measured, precise, controlled- but she moved with a grace he'd never seen. Every step a flowing, rolling whirl, as fluid as the ocean waves- and just as mesmerizing. An invisible partner in hand, she danced, as though she was the only thing in the world- as though the cosmos itself danced around her. And then-
She spun. And spun. She spun until he was sure she'd fall over, until he was sure her balance had been destroyed forever- and she didn't stop. She spun in place, and then she began to move, still spinning, still so maddeningly fast. And she spun, and danced, onto the surface of the water itself.
It froze beneath her feet, unfreezing as soon as her foot lifted. It was only a few moments, before she circled back again, setting foot on dry land once more- but he saw every moment, and knew he'd never forget it. And finally, her dance came to a close, the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen, over, just like that. He'd have done anything to have it go on forever.
And when she finally danced her last step, she faced him, eyes closed, as they had been the whole dance. Her face was perfectly passive, as though nothing remarkable had happened at all. And she slowly, painfully slowly, opened her eyes. Her beautiful, soul-binding violet-and-gold eyes. And met his. Looked into his eyes- his soul- deeper than anyone else could. And he stood, simply watching, staring, as she turned and walked away, as though nothing had even happened.
But her dance, her face, her eyes- they haunted him for the rest of the day. The cold, winter mountain wind seemed to sing her name, the only word he could even understand.
Eula.
