Current icon (Halloween) done by @puff-the-bunny
Making a new pinned post now that I'm an adult and the other one is like,, supremely outdated
(And I still refuse to change my bio)
I'm an adult, but that's not an invitation to be weird- so don't :)
Pronouns are she/her & he/him- I don't particularly care for they/them pronouns in relation to me, but if you use them for me it's still cool
Neopronouns & such are cool, just not for me
Guhhhhh- im bi & genderfluid af
Ive got no official DNI, but just the general don't be racist, misogynist, misandrist, a terf, pedo, etc. just don't be a dick basically (or at least be a normal one)
I am very bad about tagging posts with normal things, though I do my best to tag anything that's nsfw (either with just 'nsfw' or 'nsfw text' if it's a text post) I usually tag gore and nudity as well- if you want me to tag something just send an ask or dm me- I don't bite
I've got a few sideblogs! Some I use more than others
Any art of mine (it's not good, I promise) would be found at @i-have-copious-levels-of-regrets
My music related stuff is @a-bready-music-blog
Cytus (which I'm not huge into anymore but do still enjoy) is @bread-loves-cytus
Red vs. blue is @bread-vs-blue
I do have some others, but none that I care to share (too cringe, even for me) if you find em though, good for you! (I think I mention in just about all of them in the pinned post that this blogs is my main)
I've got a YouTube channel too- literally nothing goes on there, just dumb shit maybe once or twice a year
I've technically got a discord server- it's still alive with a good chunk of my mutuals but I never really use it myself..oops..
Anyone is still welcome to join though!
If I missed anything or you think there's necessary information that I missed, just send me a message :)

Book recs based on stuff I read in 2023
Nonfiction
Under the Banner of Heaven by John Krakauer (2003) - it's outdated by about 20 years which leads to one hell of a jumpscare at the end, but I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested at all in Mormonism, high control groups, FLDS, and the history of abuse against women and girls in the LDS; it covers everything you need to know about the ways the LDS church has cultivated a paedophile/domestic abuse culture and it's fucking haunting and it's the most upset a book has ever made me
Black Tudors: The Untold Story by Miranda Kaufman (2017) - a really fun read; it's a collection of case studies of the real life Africans living or working in England during the Renaissance, with each chapter focusing on a different individual and what we know about them from parish records, legal documents etc. It's also a great primer on England's relationship with the slave trade and African nations from the 16th to 17th centuries. Also I listened to this on audiobook and the lady's voice is super soothing
Problematic gay rep
Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin (1956) - yeah okay turns out Baldwin is the GOAT of queer lit for a reason. I don't even like 20th century stuff but Baldwin can WRITE man I was sucked in! And David is the BLUEPRINT of problematic gay rep! I loved watching his awful decisions I hope he suffers eternally! It's a short and easy read and a classic for a reason do give it a chance
Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Z Brite/William Martin (1996) - I'm not sure if I'm deadnaming Martin here because I bought the book earlier this year and it was still being attributed to Poppy Z Brite so I guess it's being treated like an author pseudonym now? I think? Anyway, don't read this book unless you're a disgusting freak like me who enjoys torture porn. This book comes with every content warning under the sun and I had an AMAZING couple of afternoons reading this book. American Psycho, Jeffrey Dahmer and NBC Hannibal had a baby and Martin delivered it; it's a raw, twisted and angry scream into the void about AIDS, homeless queer youth, homophobia and cultural stigma, wrapped up in a bow made of intestines. I went into this book hoping to see people get tortured and came out of it quite melancholic with a lot to think about, and I accidentally got attached to the victim oops!
The Charioteer by Mary Renault (1953) - I was gonna make a non-problematic section just for this book but then I remembered all the rampant femmephobia xD and Ralph and Laurie would 100% be bootlicking gays against pride. This book personally isn't for me - it's a lot of love triangle nonsense - but I think the tumblr demographic is particularly primed for gay World War II love triangle stories, and it's a softer, happier love story than my other recs. Would recommend if you can get past the main characters being pick mes.
Manga
No Longer Human by Junji Ito (2019) - this is a story about being a bad person and ruining everyone's lives especially your own lol; I loved the original prose version, but Ito's spin of the story makes everything so much worse and if I hadn't literally read a book about irl paedophilia the month before I think this book would have put me in the angriest and most violent place I've been all year. Love gorgeous art? Love mental illness? Love despicable spineless main characters? Get on this
Other fiction
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco (1980) - it took me a month to read this entire book. It's so self-indulgent and long winded and contrived and the big twist is laughable and I wouldn't have it any other way! It's just some old guy playing in his sand box with his little monk action figures and it's charming af. Plus the concept of a monastic murder mystery involving several orders of monks will never not be fun, and I'm biased towards the book cos my guess at the very start as to whodunnit was right >:) would recommend if you like Sherlock Holmes and long long diatribes about medieval Catholic geopolitics
Garth Marenghi's Terrortome by Garth Marenghi (2022) - this one's just a bit of a laff. The horror comedy ramblings of a man going stir crazy during COVID lockdowns. You don't need to have seen Garth Marenghi's Darkplace to understand the book but it is recommended if you can access it. Content warning for explicit man x typewriter
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson (1962) - it's a modern day (relatively) witch story! Jackson was writing about and for all the weird autistic little girls out there with this one. It's a gothic murder mystery about two co-dependent sisters who are outcasts in their village. It was a great introduction to Jackson's work

#i've still got two more books to read before 2023 ends but I don't think they're gonna make the list so it's fine lol#books#reading#my reading#literature#bookblr#reading wrap up#book recommendations#book reccs

i can't find the zukka discord server o used to be in so i guess ill just post into the abyss here:
- high school and/or summer camp au where the gaang enters a talent show. imagining bending wouldnt exist in this universe?
- sokka is doing some fancy shit w boomerang/s like in the tiktok
- aang would 100% do some random dance thats very outdated but still grts everyone pumped
- toph and katara maybe team up to do some lowkey crime shit bc i love the idea that they learn to become the best scam duo ever
- ok lets also put sukki and her squad there doing some dangerous choreography or something
- yue would be the classically trained musician who pulls out a wicked fun and modern composition that totally surprises everyone half way through. imagining some kinda lightning quick outfit change too just bc she deserves to be dramatic af
- fire nation kids are there ofc. mai does some knife throwing, ty lee ofc does acrobatic shit that the school *definitely* did not approve but she did it anyway and it leaves everyone breathless. maybe she and mai team up? azula does some impressive martial art thing idk
- zuko does something similar (with dao swords?) so he is trying hard not to be upstaged by his sister (ohh what if he and azula choreographed a fight sequence? and oops at some point its not fake anymore but everyone in the audience just thinks the blood and bruises are props lmao)
- i welcome any other character additions obvi
- but anyway the meat of the story is this: long days at rehearsal bc the entire camp/school is putting together this show for parents/general non-school audience (think fundraiser kinda thing), which means all the contestants know everyones act and theres some competitive tension there
- but for some reason, especially btwn zuko and sokka. as the practices go on (i almost wrote "as the summer goes on" so i think this is officially a summer camp situation but i am open to whatever), they are antagonizing each other outside of practice times to where it becomes the kind of rivalry that feels innate and both sides (fire nation v gaang) feel clique-y as hell but tbh no one remembers any concrete reason why it is what it is towards the end
- i think theres a lot of moments outside rehearsal where sokka and zuko have cute little moments (imagining a scene or five where sokka is starting to really pick up swordsmanship bc yes thats def a thing that happens in summer camps and zuko praises offhand at one point and oops now sokka is pestering for practice tips and oh *no* homosexual tension during MY sword fight bouts?? more likely than youd think!!) but once back in the rehearsal space their rivalry slips back on and theres some fun frenemy dynamics there
- did i mention this would be a zukka enemies to lovers au bc ofc how would it work any other way
- but theres a lil bit of angst too when they finally put on the talent show (i have zero thoughts on who would actually win or who would be crowd favorite) and the only person who shows for fire nation kids is iroh bc all their families suck
- whereas even tho katara and sokkas mom isnt there (rip) they still have hakoda and bato and a lot of other members of the water tribe
- so theres some comfort when fire nation kids are invited into the gaangs celebration and theres some heart warming found family moments, even if azula and mai would prefer not to take them up on it and its mostly just zuko trying to find his place with all these new friends hes been skirting around all summer
- (ty lee is bouncing btwn the groups but ends up finding her place with the kyoshi warriors dance squad)
- anyway i think the fic would end somewhere around that little celebration and sokka and zuko hold hands and smile at each other and cue pure and cute ending tyvm for reading

Long af post warning oops 😐✌️
You know what? I'm gonna say it. Ventriloquism community (or lack thereof) hot takes.
This art is dying for so many reasons, and it's not just because the people in the community are so old that we are literally dying off-- it's how dated this art is in general. Like, people aren't willing to try new things, and it's very bothersome. The thing is, we've been doing random comedic banter for decades, and that worked for a really long time! But that was before streaming was a thing. It's easier now to follow a more in depth plot because you're not worried about people missing certain things. That's why so many characters in ventriloquist acts are pretty much always the same: so you don't miss anything. And the puppets, as characters, tend to be just a few steps shy of seeming organic, because they're really only there to propel the comedic effect.
Mostly, this art has been boiled down to not moving your lips, but here's my big huge hot take: the heart of ventriloquism isn't how well you can appear as if you're not talking, it's how well you can make convincing, realistic characters that get people invested. That's where the REAL core of it is, because if people are invested in the character, they aren't paying attention to how much your lips are moving, and we have proof of that.
Peter Brough was a massively famous ventriloquist way back when, but here's the thing-- he didn't do live shows very often at all. Most of his work was over the radio, where nobody could actually see whether or not he was doing ventriloquism, and people just had to trust that he was. And he was, they saw that when he did the few live shows he did, but apparently he wasn't very good at it. Did people care? Nah. They were in it for Archie Andrews, the little puppet gremlin that everyone just adored.
And so I find it interesting that our community celebrates his work, which was highly story-driven and relied on that rather than how much his lips were moving to create the effect of ventriloquism, but they also don't want to give any other story-driven shows a chance?? Especially seeing as the way we're doing things now clearly isn't working. I think we could learn a think or two from Peter here.
I mean... Honestly? With fandom culture and all that... That's how you get people interested in things, is having a community based around characters people like. So, like, as weird as it sounds, yeah, I'm saying that we need to make ventriloquism acts more accessible to fandom culture, because that will help build the community. The only way to really do that is to make the shows more dynamic, more fleshed out, more plotty, I guess. We gotta give people something to care about. This is why I really like what Trillo and Suede does, because even though it is yet another old white guy playing with some puppets, it's so different, and that's a good thing! There's characters you can actually connect with and relate to and get super invested in, and it gives us all that without sacrificing the comedy, which is of course a HUGE part of our roots. I don't think we'll ever drop the comedy out of our acts. That's what we're built on. But it wouldn't hurt to take ourselves just a bit more seriously.
Creating characters that are just undeniably human no matter how nonhuman they actually are is the whole point, and we forget that there's SO many ways to do that. Like, David Strassman does a really good job finding other ways to bring the show to life, but I think the most iconic way he does this (and debatably the most iconic thing he does ever lmao) is with robotics.
it's cool as fuck, lemme show you. (The cool stuff starts at 2:08) also I should warn you this man swears a LOT and has very vulgar humor so I apologise in advance for that
https://youtu.be/RdaDUIJayC0
youtube
This is literally so cool?? AND NOBODY IS ACKNOWLEDGING IT???? There are so many cool things we can do with modern technology that can make this art, like, infinitely cooler so that the new generation can actually take an interest in it, and it's disappointing that we're not taking advantage of it.
We've been using the same routines and the same formats for way too long. It is not 1833 anymore, unfortunately, and even though it's not entirely our fault that people have less interest in ventriloquism nowadays, it... Partially is, because we're not making any attempt to invite them in. We're losing our chance and it really sucks to see.
So like basically what I'm saying here/TLDR ventriloquist humor is outdated and I think we'd gain a greater audience if we had more substance to the characters we create :)) also stop making termite jokes for the love of god if I hear one more termite joke I will scream
#ventriloquism#ranting about old white guys basically#who wants to join ventriloquism fandom with me#i hope one day ill actually have confidence lmao then i can actually do my own shows n whatever#would be cool#Youtube

From time to time, I often wonder what is doing my other seiyuu bias.
Like, I miss Ryo-san’s blog entries quite a lot. At least they gave me an idea of how he was doing.
It didn’t matter if some of them sounded sad. But I also wonder if that really helped him to vent or if it was smth unhealthy to do :/
He always had this low-profile thing going on, and all that. And nowadays, he does a couple or so works in anime (a long-runner anime series and the ocassional one) per year. And when he stopped posting about stage plays he was participating, or stopped posting his reviews/opinions on certain sport he liked, I sorta predicted he would do very rare entries in a very sporadic schedule.
Last entry he posted was in early-January. And at least, I know he is in Cut*ie Hone*y Univer*se.
Like, how is he doing in his teaching/lecturer gig? Is he helping backtsage? Is he even still in the same theatre company he was in?
And, tbh, the latter is one of my biggest unresolved mysteries - when I checked their website some time ago, I couldn’t find him there at all... and recently-ish, they moved out old sections from their old domain - still outdated af, but the thing is... I don’t find him nowhere mentioned in their latest performances not even in backstage credits. It doesn’t help they went TOO late up in modern times when other theater troupes have been posting stuff in social media for quite a long time, already.
I do check from time to time if there’s any news around in Twitter... but the guys low profile is that low, that he isn’t that much tech-savvy either.
Judging what I’ve been doing with my support and related purchases because of Suba (even more since HypM*ic exploded, as long as my wallet permits it), I really wish this was a thing with Ryo-san, too. But 3/4 of the things he is in, are nowadays OOP. I was lucky enough to get the stuff I picked up, but there is other that mostly ties me into second-hand shops or auction sites... and luck mostly.
It’s just... I miss him, I guess.
It really shocked me when I saw a pic of him from early 2016, when it clicked on me that he was using glasses (lol, why didn’t I realize this before when he was talking about contact lenses?! in a 2008 entry I read in 2012, ffs!). The latest recent one was for congrats of the cast and staff for Oja*rumaru’s 20th season/20th year on air... I was glad to know he hasn’t changed that much... but had gotten little by little older than before :’)))
