Oof. That hurts.
But it makes so much sense, it adds definition to Soda and gives him more layers than “middle brother” or “the one stuck working at a gas station.” It provides that just like Darry with football and skiing and Boy of the Year and Ponyboy with younger and youngest, track star, and skipped a grade - they each have their own identity apart of each other and a part from one another.
Through the book, we only get one perspective: Ponyboy. And only what he shares, or what he knows about each character. And yet, through the movie, the play, or even the musical we can see and hear how various actors take on the role and are impacted with the pieces given.
The tragedy about Soda and Sandy is that Sandy isn't a character, she's a plot device. Her role is to break Soda's heart and be his ex-girlfriend and that's always what she does in every versions of The Outsiders.
Sandy exists for Soda to lose her, and if that doesn't scream Greek tragedy than I don't know what does.

hc on possible stevepop kids??
YESSS YES YES OMG
Okay so to start off I’ve made this headcanon, but Evie is the surrogate mother. After her and Steve separated, she got with Sylvia, so she didn’t quite have a problem with helping! (more on this but the breakup was mutual and Evie totally set up Stevepop while Stevepop helped her get with Sylvia)
She let them decide everything-whether they wanted to know the gender, if they wanted to tell people, it was all up to them.
They were both very excited about it, Soda more so than Steve (not that Steve wasn’t excited! He was just worried he wasn’t gonna be a great dad, and he didn’t want that child to have a childhood like he did. Soda’s there to reassure him)
When Evie told them she was having twins, the both of them were ecstatic
Steve took over designing the babies’ room, he’s the more vine out of the pair of them. They are also NOT beige parents, like you know Soda was attempting to knit them the most colorful and adorable outfits (and failing but Steve reassures him that it’s not THAT bad)-Darry actually takes over knitting a lot of baby clothes since his mama taught him when he was little and it relaxes him
Speaking of, Pony and Darry were excited to be uncles! Pony was looking forward to having a kid to share his passions with, and Darry actually likes babies a lot, so the thought of being an uncle to two of them made him happy
I don’t think the pair would decide to have kids until the future, like when they’re in their early/mid twenties, they wanted stable jobs and income before they raised kids because they knew once they brought them into the world, they’d have to give them the best lives possible
They were both there to see the births of their kids, even Steve cried (but he doesn’t like admitting it) Its a boy and a girl and they had both thought of names ahead of time
I’ve seen your Sandypop baby headcanons with Skittles and I agree that Sodapop would so give his kid a more eccentric name, like his…Steve went along with it
Their names or Toffee and Honey (their dads were real creative)
The two let the kids know right away that they’re both biologically related, but by no means does that mean they’re not family. They didn’t want their kids growing up with anything missing in their lives.
Soda’s the fun dad, Steve’s more disciplinary, but that doesn’t mean he can’t have fun too. He’s just better at being strict
They both feel terrible that their kids aren’t going to grow up with grandparents, but Soda tells them alp about his parents so that they don’t lose that connection. Steve doesn’t talk much about his parents. He wants to leave that part of his life behind him.
You know the entire gang spoils them both so much, they refer to everyone in the gang as their uncle
Hope these are good!! :D

Finally posting my piece for the Stay Gold Zine! I honestly feel like I’ve improved so much since drawing it in January I almost wish I could redo it. But I am happy to see it printed.

@stewdoesthings I FOUND IT
Sadly, it was not a dream 😭
The dialogue about Sandy starts at 22:26!
I swear I saw a video of it but this will do for now
There may be more Sandy stuff in this production, i have no clue, but it's late lol I'm not watching the whole thing rn
Edit: Sorry, I should have probably added a warning-
So, warning! They are discussing abortion here! It's not mentioned by name but it's pretty obvious.

something about tragic background characters that are known by nothing but name and two sentences you are SO dear to me
which is why i drew my sandy design under the request!!! of my dearest silly @stewdoesthings !
now playing: Cry to Me — Solomon Burke ♪
when I was drawing her, i kind of pieced together the lore i have for her in my head as i went on, sooo...
★ ramble under the cut !
Sandy's design to me is probably the most OUT THERE compared to all of the other outsiders girls I've got designs for (and also not finished, sandy is the first! (aside from angela))
I've always envisioned her as a beachy girl, having family out in florida and being a natural blonde. dunno why those pieced together beach girl to me.
whenever i think of sandy, i think of three characters combined: jenny from forrest gump, lily from the book we'll fly away, and sophie from mamma mia.
in my envisionary of absolutely bullshitting, sandy is a girl who lives for the islands and the sea. she's a girl looking for love, and constantly on the search for something. her father is a priest who's constantly away for weeks on end, her mother dead. she lives alone with only greasers and hoods to keep her company in their dingy neighborhood.
people whisper "well of course she's a teenage mom, have you seen her situation? she's just gone downhill since." and it tears at her. she knows what the people think. she can make guesses of what soda would think. she ruins herself over those thoughts.
i just never see a good future for her unfortunately. but like jenny, I'd also imagine she'd way later in the future reconnect with soda. send him love, ask him out to a party, they talk, he realizes how badly she changed, he tries to talk her into going home with him, she... runs away again.
sandy is impulsive, she's what I'd say be a hippie before hippies were even hippies. she's a peace-for-all and love-for-all kind of girl. she's patriotic in the sense of loving the lands, not the people. she doesn't care for people, not anymore at least. she lives for the breeze in her hair, the grass between her toes in fields that reach up to her waist. she's obsessed with sheep and cats, she drinks herbal tea in the mornings.
i do like to imagine that sandy did become an actual hippie once the late 60s really picked up on protesting. and i do also unfortunately believe she left her daughter in the process. her family all despised her, they kept the baby anyways though. sandy gets hooked on drugs, comes back every so often to see her daughter, maybe even takes the girl with her only to have her taken away.
with no daughter and the scared idea of running back to Tulsa with the boy of her teenage dreams, she just leaves. gone, without a trace. sandy probably goes missing. she ends up somewhere, in some place, with people she doesn't know, on a bad high. she should've left with soda honestly
i can't help but imagine the most tragic of endings for that girl :( getting constantly hurt in her life by the men around her, but yet they're the only people she knows and isn't scared of. she's just a really sad girl in my eyes
i do love her so so much though and arghhh she's such a casual favorite of mine.. .
anyways i hope people enjoy poc sandy, she's my lightskinned daughter and i adore her dearly
#wowaahhhh check out the beach babe!#sandy my darling how i love you so#I'll probably get to drawing the other girls way later i have a MAJOR headache rn#but this was fun nonetheless:D#sandy the outsiders#the outsiders#the outsiders fanart#the outsiders sandy#i would've added sandy from grease as the song but it felt too on the nose#and cry to me was playing in the background and it fit her vibes so i ran with it

was thinkin about an addition @stewdoesthings made to a post about most of tusla/ windrixville bein shocked to find out the true events of what happened after the publishin of The Outsiders n got to thinkin bout how both in real life n in the book often when discussin the actions of the upper class/ soc' there's an emphasis put in the lense of childhood. 'they were just kids!' 'they were just horsin around!' 'that's just what kids their age do!' to excuse their behavior. sure. they jumped a kid. almost killed him. mercilessly hunted down Pony n Johnny n intentionally attempted to kill him. but when it's talked about it's 'they were just children!' now on the other side of things greasers/ low class kids are often aged up by the media. discussed as if their actions are the actions of a grown person who should be charged, condemned, n spoken of like they are an adult. in real life often ages intentionally aren't mentioned cause they add a level of sympathy n understandin to who they are paintin as the villian, the monster, the hardened criminal. The Threat. I wonder how many read that theme n for the first time n realized. Jesus fuck. they were kids. they were kids. they were kids. why didn't they deserve the same understandin? the same shot?
#ugh#sorry#i just think about the theme bein published in the canon of the outsiders often#how in a way its them reclaimin their own stories#look at me!#i was a child!#we were children!#why didn't you care?#why don't you still!#the outsiders#ponyboy curtis#sodapop curtis#darry curtis#dallas winston#steve randle#johnny cade#two bit mathews

can I hear more abt toffee & honey pls?? I love themm
Ofc!!
I totally just made them up in my head (and i have to thank @stewdoesthings for sending me the ask that birthed them) but they’re Stevepop’s adopted kids…sorta adopted. Evie was the surrogate mother (after her and Steve mutually broke up she got with Sylvia in my AU so I’m thinking she either got a sperm donor or one of them is a biological dad) but they’re twins! Toffee is a boy and Honey is a girl.
Getting into the headcanons their full names are Toffee Darrel and Honey Anne (Darrel after Soda’s dad and Anne after Steve’s grandma)
Steve let Soda pick the names as long as he approved them (Steve wasn’t allowed to pick names after he was about to pick a name like Dodge Challenger or smth/J/J/J—Soda thought the names Steve picked were boring that’s the real reason)
Honey is a whole 8 and a half minutes older and makes it everybody’s business (Toffee hates it)
Honey has the softest, curliest blonde hair and brown eyes ever. She has freckles all along her nose and cheeks, surprisingly just like Soda. She gets her hair from Evie.
Toffee has green eyes and darker skin, he also has reddish brown hair, it’s more wavy than curly though.
I headcanon Evie as latina, and Steve/Soda are more than happy to talk to Evie about her heritage. It’s a learning point for the kids.
Honey definitely takes after Soda. She has endless energy (and maybe a touch of ADD) and she’s just all over the place. Surprisingly she clings more to Steve though, even though Steve can’t quite keep up with her
Toffee is more reserved, more shy. Kinda like Ponyboy. He prefers to stay indoors and loves learning. He can be kinda square (according to Honey) but he’ll go on adventures with her
Speaking of, the gang loves being uncles. Darry loves children and is the prime babysitter when Steve and Soda go out on their dates. Ponyboy is pretty good too, he loves reading to Toffee. Honey’s a handful.
Dally is SO Grunkle Stan coded, he’s teaching these kids petty crime at the ripe age of four. Two-Bit as well
Honey and Toffee love getting up to some trouble, and sometimes go exploring in the woods together. Toffee does not have fun on these adventures but it makes his sister happy, so he tags along
The two are very close, and once one of them is in danger, the other is right there
Steve’s more of the disciplinary than Sodapop, he’s more comfortable punishing and holding through on stuff. Soda’s a pushover, but they know once he’s gotten angry, they’ve gone way too far
Steve doesn’t want his kids in contact with his parents/family, so they don’t really have any grandparents to connect to. Luckily they have the gang and Evie/Sylvia to spoil them
Hope these are good! Honey and Toffee are fun to write about :)

places down a really trashy andypop drawing accompanied by some writing

now playing: Whatsername — Green Day ♪
★ ramble under the cut!
thinking about them again apparently, and tagging @stewdoesthings because i know you love them dearly !
i was mostly thinking today about little things that lead them both to figuring out that they wanted to transition. the real small things, though. not the obvious "i don't think my body is right" sort of stuff.
for soda, i think some things for her may have been just:
watching her mom put on makeup and constantly wanting to help and then get her own done, because it just looked so pretty on her mama. she wanted to look pretty too !
other ways she loved feeling pretty was helping her mom put on new outfits, she loved going shopping with her before ponyboy started joining in on the fun after he was born. (not that she didn't enjoy pony's prescence, because she absolutely did. she had fun dressing him too. just that it felt like really nice mother/daughter bonding time.)
picking at cars and action figurines and never really understanding them. she was a horse girl anyways, horses were cool. they were still technically for boys, but it wasn't exactly something she considered boyish. it was soda-ish. she didn't need to worry about oils and superheros and all that. she had her ponies
soda was always considered a softie, she just didn't know that being soft was something considered feminine. it really mixed up her emotions about it. because even though she didn't hate the idea of being feminine, she also didn't know how nice she felt about being teased for it. it created conflict of wanting to stay cis for the meaner people, or leaning into it for the confused people.
living with two brothers left soda with a lot of complex emotions too. she knew how fun it was to be a boy, but sometimes everything always just felt off. she was a real sensitive kid, needing to play nice. but she also loved playing rough too, always pushing her limits.
she tried her best to really stay a boy for people for as long as she could. but she always knew it wasn't for her.
for andy, his stuff always came a bit rough.
andy hated his name, hated everything. dysphoria naturally came a lot more harsh for him compared to soda in my eyes. i imagine he really liked to dirty himself up so he didn't feel so "clean and girly." all the time.
the dirt was a layer of protection for andy, he loved having florida sand stuck in his hair as any other person on family trips. but when in tulsa, he needed the flinging dirt of the fields on him all the time. it made him feel nicer about himself being dirty.
andy probably always took the stuff that soda didn't want in regards of masculine items. clothes, accessories, sometimes even toys when they were younger, he stole every opportunity and ran with whatever he got from soda.
andy didn't enjoy skirts whatsoever, but on a really good day he loved dresses. long or short, but never too short. he never really thought much into why he didn't like skirts over dresses, but it was better to have something over nothing because then he didn't feel like such an embarrassment for wearing slacks at a controversial family event.
andy was an aggressive kid when it came to gender roles. whether it be in a school play he participated in, or a general "girl/boy" divison, it always made him mad that andy had to be on the girls side, or play as the sister or mom during family. andy wanted to be the brother, the best player on the boy's side. he always thought maybe his ego for his strength got the best of him in those moments, and he should just leave it be.
andy doesn't like having been born a girl at all. but he's not exactly gonna whine and complain about it. maybe not crying over it could be a boy thing too. just another thing to add to the list, right ?
i dunno, i just really love these two despite how far out from canon they really are 💀 sometimes it's fun to divulge in the headcanons !!!
these two spin around in my head more frequently than necessary, i just love them to bits ...
#i did a lot of rambling here#I'm assuming the @ wasn't unwanted because stew seems to not mind when it comes to sandypop#either way I'm still sat here like “ewewewe... sorrryyyy...” hehehe#love these two so much#this pose was so awkward but ykw it's fine i still love them who cares about the shitty anatomy#peep andy being larger than soda (it's because soda's slouched and curling in on herself to seem tinier) (she likes being tiny in my eyes)#sodapop curtis#sandy the outsiders#transfem sodapop curtis#transmasc sandy#andypop#t4t sandypop#the outsiders headcanons#the outsiders

Soda is a total girl dad and would dress Kit in the cutest outfits he finds but I also raise you Soda is a cowboy at heart and passes his love of horses down and given the opportunity would dress her in little cowboy outfits with complete matching boots.
Sandy just smiles with affection. She knows who she married.
Gonna do a "gang dresses up Skittles" so I'm listening to suggestions as to how they'd dress her up!

A little about the blog!:
blog is run by @stewdoesthings all replies and art is made by him
Character is Sandy from The Outsiders
This is from the musical's version of The Outsiders but her design is Lynne Hatheway's Sandy from the movie
All the replies are based off headcanons
This is just for some light hearted fun
"I received some letters in my mailbox! I wonder who they're from?"
