I would love to know how you think that curly ends up dying because it’s som3thing I’ve never been able to pinpoint how and I would love to know what other people do about it and I’m asking you because in my mind you practically created purly and are like the god and I really enjoy your stuff but this is just something I’ve wondered for a while now

well my headcanon for Curly’s death is when he’s about 17 he jumps in to protect pony from getting jumped and ends up underestimating his opponents. I don’t like to get into the details as thinking about it makes me uneasy but he does end up dying by the hands of four Socs as pony tries (and fails) to lift himself off the ground to help

In his early childhood, Darry was “Junior”

Once he got to high school, everybody called him “DJ”

It was only when the cops knocked on the Curtis family door that day in January and addressed him as Darrel did he start going by that. Because that’s what he was, he was an adult now, there was no room for silly nicknames anymore. It was only when he was addressed as “Darrel Curtis” and he went to correct them but stopped himself. There was no need for the “Jr.” anymore, as there was no Darrel Curtis Sr. Now.

Darry was no longer the mini-me of his father, he was his father. Taking the place and name of the person he once aspired to be like. Now he had to be like that, always.

It was only when Pony called him “Dad” in his fevered delirium in the week after Windrixville that Darry started to cry.

hc Darry was born SUPER early and Mr and Mrs Curtis didn’t have time to pick out a super crazy name so they came up with making him a junior while driving to the hospital and that’s the only reason he has a normal name

Hear me out.

Imagine if the Curtis brothers weren’t born with the names we know them by…but instead, they were given those names as they grew up, based on their personalities.

Like. They started with standard names. What eventually became their middle names. And the names they go by now are the ones that actually fit them best.

Darry?

He was born Shaynne. It’s soft, and it’s the kind of name you give a sweet little boy you think will have a simple life. But life didn’t work out like that. He had to grow up fast, as both the oldest brother and as a Greaser. He became the rock of the family.

So the name “Darrel” stuck.

It’s not hard like tough, but hard like sturdy. Traditional. Solid. Darrel sounds like someone who works two jobs and keeps the lights on.

Soda?

He started as Patrick. Plain, classic, fine. But Patrick couldn’t possibly contain how bubbly and sweet this kid was. So as he grew, “Sodapop” became the only name that ever made sense.

Soda is fizzy, and bright, and never still. Of course he’s Sodapop.

Ponyboy?

He was born Micheal. Totally normal. But then…

His first word was “neigh,” pointing at a horse.

He was obsessed with horses. He’d draw them, pretend to be one, read about them, name them, dream about them. So his parents started calling him Ponyboy. And that stuck.

So TLDR,

They were born Shaynne, Patrick, and Micheal; but they became Darrel, Sodapop, and Ponyboy. And their names tell you exactly who they really are. :)
