bio
— morgaine was born on 29th october 1991 at 1:26pm to archie fox, a stockbroker, and his wife madeleine, a biologist. she has two older twin brothers named aurelius and andreas. she was born and raised in the west village.
— growing up, she absolutely hated her brothers. they were the bane of her existence. they’d constantly bully her, take her belongings, and their father wouldn’t bat an eyelid. but her mother was far more sympathetic. the two of them spent a lot of time together whilst archie was constantly preparing the boys to follow him in the so-called family business. madeleine taught morgaine a lot about literature and art and about the ever-changing world around them as well as the important rule for young women: never let any man push you around or tell you who you are.
— her mother would always have the radio on when she’s was cooking and morgaine soon found a passion for singing by listening to old songs and learning the lyrics. she was a natural vocalist, but would never sing in front of her brothers out of fear they’d find something else to pick on her for.
— morgaine, although interested in art and literature, found school a bore. she hated learning pointless things she knew she would never use again and even though she remained popular throughout her education she didn’t particularly care for the other girls she knew; they were all fake and bitchy and talked about nothing stimulating. she did, however, attend all the big school parties at the more wealthier kids’ houses just to piss off her father and get drunk.
— morgaine also participated in kung fu lessons in order to learn self-defence. it was a way for her to get stronger and let out her frustrations. she once roundhouse kicked a boy in the face after he derogatory comments to a fellow student who was always getting bullied for being a nerd and whilst morgaine got in huge trouble she was proud of herself and the student she helped remained eternally grateful, the two of them often sitting together during lunch. nobody else dared mess with her after that.
— madeleine was supportive of morgaine’s endeavours to pursue a singing career as she could see how much is meant to her daughter and how passionate she was about it, but archie wasn’t happy. he wanted her to do something that would bring her wealth and abundance (or so he said, but morgaine knew he only wanted her to be as miserable and as infamous as he was), but she stood her ground. both he and her brothers were disappointed; they said she was throwing her life away, but morgaine only replied that she was actually wanting to live a life and not wanting to be pulled down into the depths of depression and stress by some mundane lifestyle. of course, archie was less than pleased and when morgaine had graduated high school he gave her an ultimatum: go to college and get a real job or leave home and never come back. morgaine chose the latter.
— morgaine soon found herself jumping from bar to bar, singing across the city and having no kind of stability. her mother was sending her money in the meantime, until she got on her feet, to pay for rent and groceries. morgaine didn’t know what she would do without madeleine. at 26 she found an opportunity to go to london to start her career at a prestigious hotel named ‘the bastion’ and, with her mother’s full support, she immediately snatched it up.
— upon arriving at the bastion she was taken under the wing of elowen de gavre, a fellow singer. the two lived together and quickly became like sisters, even solidifying their relationship and trust with friendship bracelets which they never took off. morgaine always thought she’d never have made it in the bastion of it want for elowen and knows that she can rely on her no matter what.
— morgaine never intended to become an assassin, but with being surrounded by a certain class of people and with her beauty, charm, and martial arts skills it became inevitable. she practised incessantly when it came to shooting a gun and knife throwing, but soon became an expert in both, even going as far as having her own custom silver knives made.
— her job as a singer payed well and she loved every moment of doing her favourite thing in the world, but when morgaine started taking on contracts her income increased and was able to start paying her mother back (despite madeleine’s insistence that it wasn’t necessary) and was also able to move out of her room at the bastion to get her own place nearby. her first job as an assassin was to dispatch a wealthy gentleman who had been breaking the rules of the table and thought he was getting away with it and whilst she was nervous morgaine decided to have fun. she seduced him at the bar where he spent most evenings and accompanied him back to his apartment where she slit his throat and stole some valuable pieces of jewellery from both him and his wife. she heard on the news that the police only suspected the murder was a result of a break in and robbery and nothing else came from the investigation. literally getting away with murder gave morgaine a high and is constantly chasing that when she takes on a job.
— after getting unwanted attention from men who were disrespectful, sexiest, and generally terrible people, morgaine thought she would never find someone who would love her the way she could love them. until she crossed paths with fellow assassin marco romano, who was highly skilled, incredibly handsome, and had a heart of gold. he also frequented the bar a lot and watched her sing. she fell for him pretty quick and not only did he help to bring out her softer side, but she helped him to be more confident. the two soon became a formidable pair.

bio
— rigel was born on 13th march at 7:25am to penelope ‘penny’ thorne, a seamstress. when his father found out she was pregnant they were both young and unmarried and so disappeared, not wanting the responsibility of being a parent and leaving penny to raise rigel by herself.
— rigel grew up in cowes, living a short distance from queen victoria's residence of osbourne house. he and his mother lived in a beautiful cottage that had a large garden, two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a spacious living room. he spent most of his time in the kitchen, at the table, where the sun would shine its light the most and where he would draw with prized pack of crayons. this was the start of his interest in art and, with his mother’s influence, in designing clothes.
— rigel loved his mother more than anything. she was the strongest and kindest person he’s ever known. penny raised rigel alone (with the help of her own parents when they could) and never saw rigel’s father again. she taught him to sew from a young age and how to grow vegetables in their back garden as well as how to read and write before he even started school. she would also take him to the beach during the warmer months and they’d often go for walks through the countryside and to the market.
— rigel’s love of literature and his sewing skills landed him a little job at the local theatre, helping design and put together costumes for their productions. he mainly helped out on the weekends and a few evenings during the week, but once he finished school he was working there full time.
— during the summer after his seventeenth birthday he met a girl named charlotte. she was visiting the island on holiday, was also seventeen and english, but has been living in wales since she was twelve. they met at the local bookstore where rigel found her carrying six books in her arms and searching for more. he helped her with some recommendations and to carry the books back to the family’s rented holiday home and the whole time was spent talking about their favourite books and plays and the two decided to spend more time together whilst charlotte was around. rigel thought she was so beautiful, so compassionate, so intelligent, and so easy to have a conversation with. after charlotte returned home, the two exchanged letters frequently and even had a few lengthy phone conversations.
— two years later, charlotte returned to the island and announced she’d taken up a job with one of the local florists. for the time being she lived with rigel and penny and spent most evening cooking for them both to repay their kindness and generosity.
— rigel was 23 when he felt like he wanted more out of life. he loved his home and the people there, but he wanted to broaden his horizons. despite the guilt he felt for wanting to leave his mother behind, penny reassured him that nothing would make her happier than seeing her son make a life for himself with the girl he loved.
— rigel then had one last thing to do before leaving and that was to propose to charlotte. he did so during a sunset stroll on a quiet beach and up to that point it was the happiest moment of both of their lives. they bought a victorian terraced house, where rigel still lives today, and he found a job working at a big theatre whilst charlotte was employed at a florist around the corner from their home.
— they were unbelievably happy together and with their work, but once people started commenting on how time was ticking on for them to have children rigel began to consider fatherhood.
— his son rhys was born in 1985 and both rigel and charlotte couldn’t be happier. by this time, rigel was working in the costume department at the famous pinewood studios, but gave it up to be closer to home.
— when rhys was seven, his mother died. she was hit by a drunk driver whilst crossing the road and was put in an induced coma, but died from her injuries four days later. the driver was brought to justice after a long legal battle, but nothing anybody could do could bring back charlotte. rigel was broken. and what was worse is that he had to explain to rhys that he would never see his mother again.
— rigel ensured that rhys grew up hearing stories of the kind of wonderful person charlotte was and what kind of likes she liked and liked to do. as much as it pained him, rigel also had several photographs of her around the house- some from family days out, some from when she was a teenager, and even had her final photograph (taken a fortnight before she died) in an ornate gold frame in the living room.
— in 1999, rigel caught the attention of the table. they knew of his reputation as an accomplished artist and tailor and wanted his services on their side. struggling for money to provide for himself and his son and with being presented the opportunity to put his skills to proper use, rigel took them up on the offer. he could let the shady side of everything slide because he wasn’t directly involved in scheming and killing, but instead providing protective and beautiful clothing for people who needed it. he’s been working at the atelier ever since and genuinely loves his job.

bio
— born as a disappointment, athena is the only child of an english father and a french-german mother. they wanted a son who would grow up to be the heir of their respective media and pharmaceutical family businesses, to take a strong lead and contribute to the legacy, but they saw their daughter as meek and mild: somebody who would be a better wife and trophy rather than her own person. oh how wrong they were. her parents were more focused on their reputations than they were with their daughter and when we athena craved their praise or attention she’d be shouted at for being too whiny or distracting, kicked out of a room for interrupting, and ignored if she ever tried to ask why or fight back. she learned never to ask for anything, but just to take it and stand her ground.
— athena was raised by a handful of nannies, but one stood out- a firm but fair irish woman named maeve- and athena’s mother had the audacity to be offended when she referred to her nanny as ‘mommy’. maeve was indeed the only maternal figure in athena’s life- the only positive role model she ever had- and taught the young girl all kinds of things: life lessons, art, history, literature, and even the beginnings of learning the irish language, which she unfortunately had to drop when she was sent to boarding school. maeve would also take athena to explore the city with central park being their favourite spot.
— athena was taught german as her second language, then went on the learn french, and italian, and russian. she became fluent in all and have been incredibly useful in her working life. she flourished at boarding school, even if it was a challenge at times and even if she was bitter towards her parents for sending her away as if she meant nothing despite the fact she should be grateful for the opportunity. she saw boarding school as her parents getting rid of her and giving themselves another excuse to make her seem ungrateful or selfish when she retaliated; “we’ve given you everything you could want”, “other people would kill for this opportunity”, and so on.
— at the age of 23, athena met her eventual (ex)husband konstantin noailles at a social function in london where he had come from russia on business. he was handsome, charming, and had taken a shine to athena, who (being young and naive) was taken under his spell. it didn’t occur to her for a while that konstantin was anything other than a legit businessman with intentions of bringing the marchmain and noailles families together for political and financial gain. but when she did she had already agreed to marry him and knew she would be doing it without love in her heart. she tried hard to make konstantin say ‘i love you’ to her, but he always skirted around the subject and her efforts were wasted.
— after their meagre honeymoon, athena moved to new york city with konstantin, settling into an extravagant penthouse apartment with a clear view of the skyscrapers and the empire state building. it was during konstantin’s business trips and after exploring the city some more that athena developed a passion for art and antiques. she learned everything she could on the majority of subjects to enhance her knowledge and with her newfound status was able to talk to some of the most influential people in the modern art world. athena’s favourite movements are art nouveau, impressionism, and the victorian antique period.
— her only child, lilia, was born in moscow, russia, when athena was 28 and accompanying her husband on a business trip. athena thought having a child would bring her and her konstantin closer together, but it jammed the wedge between them even further. very much like her own parents, konstantin longed for a son he could pass down his legacy to, but he ended up with a daughter. her life was beginning to repay itself and because of her youth,fa fear, and naivety, the cycle of emotional distancing unfortunately didn’t end with athena. she was the same way with lilia because this was the only way she knew how to love: from a distance and without evident displays of emotion. athena loves her daughter, though… in her own way. she refers to lilia as sepphy (taken from her middle name persephone) as a sign of affection and would viciously retaliate against anybody who dares to physically or emotionally hurt her daughter.
— when lilia was 16, athena watched as she killed a man for the first time, right there in konstantin’s study. it was an horrific moment to see her child lose all innocence, but athena had to let it happen. she stood behind her husband, gripping the back of his chair so hard her knuckles turned white as lilia made them proud.
— athena eventually divorced konstantin, reverting to her maiden name of marchmain but keeping noailles as a kind of middle name and a sign of her status and connections. konstantin tried to make lilia stay with him, but she chose to stick by her mother and together they moved into the manhattan townhouse that they both still reside in. not long later, and thanks to her ex-husband’s connections, athena became affiliated with the notorious syndicate, who she provides information for based on gossip and facts she’d heard from clients concerning people of interest. she finds great amusement in establishing trust with somebody, getting what she needs from them, and then betraying them for a greater cause. she is loyal to the syndicate. it’s very much a ‘you scratch my back and i’ll scratch yours’ relationship.
— in 2014, athena stayed in london for eighteen months due to the particulars of some new work she’d taken on and bought an apartment there which she still own tho this day. the move coincided with lilia’s choice to attend oxford university. athena gave lilia the independence to live away (and also the money to do so), keeping her daughter close so that she could keep tabs on her whilst also providing her with a first class education. athena also extended her work trip after the eighteen months was up just to be near to lilia and the two returned to new york once she had graduated.
— “like mother like daughter” was a phrase athena heard being whispered quite often. she and her daughter were notorious for being suave, cunning, sexy, assertive, and most noticeably gorgeous. all they had to do was bat their eyelashes, flick their golden hair over their shoulders, and gaze at others with their bright blue eye and they had them wrapped around their little fingers. it was something athena was proud of, that her daughter ended up like her and it having to worry about lilia being taken advantage of. she had her mother’s strength and wit and athena could rest easy with that knowledge.
— today athena still lives the life of luxury and has considerable influence in new york city’s elite social circles. she works as a private art dealer and antiquarian, mainly for celebrities, business owners, investors, and anyone else that can afford the most exquisite and historical of items. she has a gallery and office near tribeca where, when she’s not attending parties and other social gatherings, she can usually be found.

bio
— delphine was born on 21st december 1960 at 1:38am to etienne of montmorency and his wife victoria. how fitting it was for a baby who would grow up to be a cold, ruthless, cruel woman to be born on the darkest day of the year. she was also born two weeks early when her parents were in paris on business, which was an ‘inconvenience’ as the birth delayed her father’s meetings and upset the cliente. naturally, it was out of anybody’s hands, but when she was older morgaine had a feeling she was never forgiven for arriving early.
— she grew up in the shadow of her older brother adonis: the golden child who could do no wrong, the heir to the montmorency fortune, and future head of the table. she was essentially a spare part and could never instant why her parents bothered with another child if they weren’t going to mould her the same way as they did with adonis; she certainly never intended to be a ‘lady’ of any kind and always stirred trouble for her nannies and governesses. from a young age delphine was taught to speak several languages, had a head start in reading and writing, and was shown many self-defence techniques. when she was old enough, she was also taught how to use a gun, which she became incredibly adept at, and even taught herself how to use knives as a weapon.
— when finding out about the ‘family business’, delphine never shied away from the nitty gritty. she was incredibly curious and with all of her incessant questions her father had no choice but to teach her about the table, its history, the family history, and the balance that must be kept within their shadowy underworld.
— attending boarding school allowed delphine freedom. she went to an international school in switzerland, just as her brother and father did, and finally found herself at the centre of attention, which she completely revelled in. she made many friends and admirers and achieved excellent grades. whilst at school, she also met her future husband; they flirted with each other for fun, never thinking anything of it, but what started as a joke turned into real romantic feelings. after deciding to start dating they became glued at the hip, rarely seen apart and always whispering in each other’s ears. they didn’t know it initially, but their respective families knew one another
— in april 1977, when delphine was only 17, she fell pregnant. her first reaction was panic, immediately wondering how her parents would react. they were angry at first, shouting about how irresponsible their perfect daughter had been and what she was supposed to do with her life now. but when things had settled delphine told them that whilst the pregnancy was an accident she had genuinely love for her boyfriend and they believed her, especially when they found out which noble and respected family he was from. for this reason alone they approved of the young couple’s expeditious marriage, with the ceremony being held in late may before delphine’s pregancy began to show.
— just a little over a month after her 18th birthday, delphine’s child was born: a daughter she named jacqueline. barely an adult herself, morgaine wasn’t entirely sure how to be with her baby and neither was her husband. they were both navigating this completely new and terrifying experience together and even though they didn’t really want it (yet, at least) they plowed through and provided nothing but the best for their daughter (maybe a little more emotional involvement wouldn’t have gone amiss…) including the most capable nannies.
— as the months progressed, delphine began to notice a change in adonis. he seemed to shy away from anything business related and always attempted to make excuses for not getting involved. morgaine didn’t know whether her parents hadn’t noticed the change or simply refused to acknowledge it, but she saw it as an opportunity to exploit adonis in order to assume the power he wanted to denounce. one night, when the two of them were alone in the house, she lured him to the top of the grand staircase and with all of her strength kicked him down. he tumbled, hit his head hard, and was dead before his body hit the floor. knowing it would be a maid that found him in the morning, morgaine retreated to bed without remorse. she never had a particularly good relationship with adonis anyway.
— delphine feigned her grief the following day when her parents hastily returned home. she told them she heard nothing in the night and was asleep before the maid’s screams woke her up. her parents were distraught: their precious only son was dead and now they had no choice but to set morgaine up for her new future. she spent a lot more time with her father, who showed her the ins and outs of the family business- the practical and financial aspects and even gave her extra lessons in the ways in which to kill a person. she already had the ruthless montmorency streak running through her like a stick of rock, so needed no teaching in how to remain composed and level-headed.
— when delphine was 34 her father died and she assumed the role as head of table, already having an established reputation for being cold-hearted and merciless. she knew she made etienne proud. her mother was glad she had turned out to be a worthy successor and subtly doted on delphine, who couldn’t care less for the woman who had never before showed much interest in her. loretta then died 8 years later.
— 10 years after jacqueline was born, morgaine and her husband welcomed another daughter, who they named davika. this time it wasn’t an accidental pregnancy and morgaine hoped that, unlike her and adonis, they would grow up to get along even despite the large age difference. although she didn’t say it a lot, especially out loud to anyone other than her husband, she was proud to have daughters and that the next two heads of the table were all going to be women.
— by this time jacqueline was 14, old enough to know the importance of the montmorency family and the status it held in their world and old enough to start being introduced to the more darker aspects of it. she, too, was sent to boarding school for a proper education and in the meantime delphine, whilst making her own mark on the world, was still very happy with her husband (contrary to popular belief- people never thought it would last, but her husband had grown to be equally as ruthless and strong-willed and always looked out for his wife).
— she became a grandmother to jacqueline’s daughter noémie when she was 43. she and delphine had a good relationship and spent quite a bit of time with each other, especially during the summers when they sit together in the garden of the manor. noémie had always been clingy with morgaine and whilst it irritated her at first she soon grew to accept it and realised that it probably helped in strengthening their bond.

bio
— elias was born on 10th august 1961 at 2:27pm to jeremiah crowe, a lawyer, and his wife sylvia, a business secretary. it was a warm, dry day and almost a month before he was actually due.
— elias’s birth was traumatic and sylvia almost died from blood loss. there was also trauma to her reproductive system and it meant that her chances of having another child were non-existent. sylvia became very bitter about it and harboured resentment towards elias that lasted the remainder of her lifetime.
— edwin was raised by a nanny and later by a governess. his nanny, maeve, was quiet, calm, caring, and treated elias if he were her very own. his governess, alice, on the other hand, was incredibly harsh. she cared for nothing but providing him with a head start to his first class education. alice never had a strict timetable, only moving on or breaking for lunch when she was sure elias had grasped what he had been learning so far. during this time, he rarely saw either of his parents and the older elias got the further he grew apart from them.
— by the time he attended boarding school from the age of nine, elias was already reading above the average level for his age. he loved to read, was very good at most subjects taught, and spent a lot of time in the library, however, he hated sports with a passion. he was never anybody’s first choice when it came to other boys picking teammates and he especially hated football. the only sport elias tolerated was badminton, which he played in his garden with his neighbour’s children back home.
— the older he got the more his parents began to pester him about thinking of the future. naturally, jeremiah wanted his son to follow in his footsteps and sylvia wasn't particularly fussed as long as it was a high-paying, respected profession. after thinking about it for a while, elias decided he wanted to be a doctor, which pleased both of his parents greatly. they bought him textbooks to make him study in his free time to get a head start before applying to university. elias became passionate about medicine very quickly and also became adept at anatomy before he needed to know about it.
— at 17 years old, elias’s parents decided to uproot the family from ireland and make the move to london after jeremiah was offered a top job at one of the most respected law firms in the country. elias was reluctant. he didn't want to leave everything and everyone he knew behind and trade the lush green hills of county clare from the smoke and noise of the city. but ultimately he had no choice but to follow along, at least until he could move away for his studies and then on to a career that could take him just about anywhere he wanted to go. anywhere was better than under his mother's scornful, watchful eye and under her suffocating control.
— at 18, elias enrolled at oxford university to attend their school of medicine. jeremiah had wanted elias to stay in london, but was persuaded to let his son leave when elias threatened to drop out of university altogether. he lived in halls of residence for two years and then boarded at a house nearby with two classmates. he also excelled in his course and gained top marks for the majority of his classes, but ranked the highest in neuroscience and trauma medicine (the latter of which eventually became his speciality).
— elias spent this career at the same hospital in central london, building up his reputation as a world renowned trauma surgeon. he also spent some time travelling to give lectures and even wrote a handful of research papers.
— he eventually became disillusioned by the idea of helping people even when there was no hope left. the part of him that held that hope over the years had slowly faded away until there was nothing left. he found power in controlling death, even after spending so many years bringing people back from the brink of it. elias thought that killing a patient who had little to no chance of survival or who would suffer for the rest of their lives if they survived was the kind thing to do; to ease their pain and suffering was better than letting them live with it.
— he spent the next two years sporadically killing patients who came under his care, from car accidents to overdoses, usually through administering drugs or nicking certain arteries with a blade, which were made to look accidental. elias eventually got to a point where he realised he could no longer work at the hospital, that he could no longer upheld the hypocratic oath, and that even one accidental move could trigger suspicions. he wasn't about to tarnish his public record and reputation, so gave in his notice and lied, saying he was thinking of taking a job in some remote part of the world to live a quieter life.
— it wasn’t long before he was sought after by the the table. his skills, knowledge, and experience would be invaluable to them. and whilst not a fully qualified mortician, elias assumed the role on the basis that there wasn’t anyone else willing to do it. he had the basics down to a t and spent a lot of time studying (and practising) to ensure he was capable. however, he settled quickly into the job and found that he enjoyed working with patients that didn’t talk back and ask stupid questions and move when he specifically told them not to. elias’s services as a doctor to the high table were also highly sought after by the common assassin and gang member, knowing they’d be quickly and securely stitched up to move onto the next job. sometimes elias is grateful for his insomnia and it’s usually when he has an influx of clients during the night.
— elias now lives in the bastion itself, ensuring he is able to answer a call for help at any time and to provide his services as mortician quickly and discreetly. he likes living there as it gives him privacy from the outside world and his previous life, as well as being able to conveniently access anything he needs or wants.

• evie was born to a swiss-german father and a scottish-american mother in new york city on the late morning of 8th may 1960. her father worked in the german translation section at the united nations headquarters in new york and her mother was history professor at nyu.
• her mother had called her evie from the day she was born, so grew up preferring it over her full name. her father called her eve, but had always been indifferent to it until she was a little older. he also taught her and her siblings to speak fluent german, which is something evie still retains to this day.
• she gets along well with both of her siblings, but is closer to her brother nate. he was the one that encouraged her to pursue her dreams of being an actress and helped her to steal clothes from their mother’s wardrobe to use as costumes in their own homemade plays.
• her parents were often busy with work, but they always made time for their children. they spent their vacations in italy, portugal, and mexico and was the best time for them all to relax and be a family. they also often played board games together, had movie nights, and would celebrate holidays like christmas in excess.
• despite not really enjoying school, evie had consistently good grades. she liked drama, english, history, and sociology the most and even helped put on several school shows. she was incredibly popular and it helped to boost her confidence. she also had her first boyfriend in high school and the two were together for almost three years.
• evie attended juilliard, which she enjoyed far more than high school, and landed a small part in a popular drama show straight after graduating. she also took up a part time job at a local independent bookstore after filming wrapped and loved every minute of being surrounded by books and fellow avid readers.
• it was a little over a year before evie found a decent film role: playing the daughter in a wealthy victorian family whose lives were being haunted by a demonic supernatural force. her acting was praised and she gained a lot of attention from both critics and audiences. she then went straight into filming a sequel, which shot to the top of the box office.
• after the stellar success of her first two films, evie moved out to los angeles. she shared an apartment with a fellow actress named emily and the two eventually formed a romantic relationship. they were together for eight months before things started to strain and the two realised they couldn’t live together, so evie moved out and found a smaller apartment to live alone in.
• evie had several flings with both men and woman whilst living and working in los angeles. she knew very well that the majority of them only wanted to be with her because of her fame, but it didn’t faze her, even when her relationships were subject to being exposed by the tabloids: she was proud of who she was and wasn’t afraid of publicly calling out bigots.
• for the next few years, evie was between california and new york, starring in several films, two long-running tv shows, and a small handful of plays (with one even touring the entire country) and became more popular with each production she was a part of. she met her eventual husband on one of the film sets and they instantly hit it off, but it took her a while to admit that she did, in fact, have feelings for him. in what little free time they had they went out for restaurant dates, strolls in the park, and tried out some fun new activities they’d both been scared to do on their own. it was clear to them both that they were making one another a better, more confident and more loving person.
• eventually evie became so exasperated with all the attention and the invasion of privacy and the relentless hounding of the paparazzi. the press kept trying to dig into her private life and even tried to give mr crane some unwanted time in the limelight. she came to conclusion that she needed to slow down and prioritise what she wanted in life instead: a family. up to this point evie had wanted children, but never had the opportunity because of her hectic work life and because she never had a truly stable relationship. but now she had mr crane and was madly in love with him in every possible way; she couldn’t imagine a better man to be a father. the topic of children eventually came up in conversation and it was something that solidified their relationship. spontaneously, mr crane proposed, eager to proceed to the next step of their journey together, and evie accepted.
• the two quickly packed their belongings and moved back to new york city. during that same week she and mr crane were married in a small ceremony (it was rushed, after all) and neither of them could have been happier. they spent their two week honeymoon in hawaii and one night, after a lengthy discussion, evie decided that she wanted to open her own bookshop, specialising in secondhand books.
• in the autumn of 1992, a year after the opening of cover to cover, their son/daughter was born and neither of them could have been happier and more grateful. they both took to being parents like ducks to water and evie often had her baby with her as she worked, which a lot of customers loved.
• something, however, felt incomplete about their family. evie’s child’s birth had been traumatic and painful and she didn’t think she could put herself through that again, but both her and mr crane wanted more children. the best solution was adoption. it didn’t take long for them both to find fifteen year old violet hú and her sibling and the cranes knew they were going to live those kids as if they were their own flesh and blood.
• the cranes provided a loving and supportive home for the siblings and gave them their own spaces in their home to decorate as their own. it was also a chance for them to really start to follow their dreams without hindrance or fear of being stopped. the cranes treated their adoptive children with the respect and kindness they deserved and never made them feel like they didn’t belong. moreover, when evie found out that violet was interested in acting it was an incredible opportunity for them to bond. the cranes also never misses any of violet’s performances; they’re so proud of what she has achieved and what she will go on to do.
• every now and then, evie likes to spend time at a local club performing singing and acting for cabaret nights. singing had always been a passion of hers and never truly managed to show off her voice when acting in film and tv.
• most of evie’s customers at cover to cover know of her accolades, but she’s determined to stay down to earth and involve herself in the community. she is also involved in literary charities and does little fundraisers at her shop for both literary charities and for local charities.
wanted connections:
• mr crane: the love of evie’s life. they’ve been together for almost 35 years and they’re still as much in love with each other as they were at the time they met. he, too, was in the film & television industry (doing what exactly is up to you!) and maybe he still is or maybe, like evie, has given up that life to pursue some other passion. they live together in their manhattan home and proud parents to three children (one biological and two adopted)
• the cranes’ biological child: no matter how old they are, evie’s child will always be her baby. she has made sure that they have grown up safe, comfortable, and loved, and is proud of them no matter what career path they’ve chosen to taken. the child themself is also a very proud older sibling to two adoptees: violet hu and (other tbd) and has always been around took after them and make them feel a part of the family.
• the cranes’ youngest adopted child: more info can be found here
• old friends: maybe your muse is still acting or maybe they’ve retired too, but nevertheless they have been friends with evie- going through thick and thin together- since their amateur acting days. they could have met at juilliard or on the first day of shooting a film. they always attend each other’s christmas parties and other such get-togethers as well as going for nights out in Manhattan. they’re also like an uncle or aunt to evie’s children and are practically a family member.
• regular customers: like evie, your muse might be a fellow bookworm, absolutely having to read the latest bestseller and to catch up with all the classics; maybe they’re looking for something new (or in this case, old) to try, maybe they want to make some friends in their fellow readers, and maybe they even want to hear stories of evie’s acting days.

— Rowan was born at 2:36am on 6th January 1958 in New York City, NY, to Winston and Lenora Halliday. He also has a sister four years his junior.
— From a young age, Rowan had a great admiration for both of his parents. Being a police officer himself, Winston taught his son the values of trust, comradeship, respect, and a sense of purpose. They would play baseball together for hours on the weekends, go to the cinema, and even go on fishing trips out of state. Lenora taught her son patience, kindness, dedication, and optimism. Before retirement, she was an actress (mainly working in theatre and television) and then later a tutor at the prestigious Juilliard School, but she would always let Rowan offer his own creative insight in her work.
— Rowan was bullied at school until his father taught him to fight back. He’d do his best of ignore the boys that picked on him, but when they started to push him and hit him then Rowan knew he had to do something about it. So when the boys got a taste of their own medicine and were finally put in their place, Rowan got into trouble with the principal, but wasn’t punished by his parents- in fact, they were proud of him- and the boys never bothered him again.
— Rowan always worked hard at school. He got top grades in his English and gym classes and average grades in the rest, but he already had his heart set on following in his father’s footsteps to become a police officer. After graduating high school, he enrolled in the academy where he greatly excelled and gained a name for himself as a sharpshooter in target practice. However the process wasn’t as straightforward as Rowan thought. Whilst he was outstanding at his job, he had a tendency to doubt himself and thought that he could never live up to his father’s expectations and reputation. His mother was always trying to reassure him that he didn’t have to be a replica of his father and that he should just be himself: the considerate, brave, loyal, and benevolent man that he grew to be.
— Upon graduating from the police academy, Rowan was assigned to the 13th precinct in Manhattan South, staying for 6 years, before being transferred several times as his career progressed. He passed the sergeant’s exam first time around and a year later, when Rowan was 27, his father was shot in the line of duty during a drive-by and spent a week in the hospital. The injury effected his mobility and was forced to take early retirement. Rowan hated seeing his father so depressed and once Winston was able to travel the two went upstate to fish together for a weekend.
— Rowan had just received his promotion to Captain when his father got sick and not long later died of pancreatic cancer. It was a time when Rowan was considering changing careers, but after finding a letter written to him by Winston before he died, Rowan was spurred on to continue in the NYPD and he always keeps that letter close to him as a reminder.
— Fortunately, Rowan himself was never shot, but came close on a number of occasions. The worst injuries he suffered were a broken arm and a stab wound to the thigh- both of which left him doing administrative duties for several weeks. During this time though he gained an appreciation and respect for members of the NYPD who weren’t officers or detectives, understanding the importance of the so-called minor roles that were actually just as important. If he ever saw an officer or detective treating a sketch artist or a secretary badly he would waste no time in standing up for them.
— Despite being qualified for the job, and with several commendations to prove it, Rowan never wanted to be the police chief. When he was the top choice for the job, he initially turned it down, citing that he was too old and due for retirement, not a promotion. But his modesty was dismissed and after a little more persuasion (particularly from his mother and sister) he took the job. He knew that being Aaron Keaton’s successor would come with its trials and tribulations, but Rowan is prepared to give it everything and to make a difference to people’s lives.
✧・゚— W A N T E D C O N N E C T I O N S
— FAMILY FIRST: Family has always been important to Rowan, especially after the death of his father. This wanted connection would, most importantly, be for his sister (any FC who could pass would do!), but maybe also for his niece/nephew. You would have free reign with their career, personal life, etc., but would have a tight knit relationship with Rowan. Bonus points if the niece/nephew followed Uncle Rowan into law enforcement!
— THE RIGHT HAND: This connection, of course, would be for the deputy chief of police and Rowan’s most trusted confidant. Their opinions and views matter most to Rowan and not only would they be close friends, but they would work side by side in ensuring the people of New York City are safe and that crime rates come down.
— REMEMBER WHEN: I would absolutely love for Rowan to have a former partner or good friend who he worked with back on the beat. They could meet up often, reminisce about the good old days, and attend each other’s family gatherings amongst other things.
— BROKEN TRUST: On the other hand, your muse could be a former partner who turned bad (or perhaps they were corrupt all along) and a once great duo formed on trust and friendship was ruined by the poison of crime and corruption. Part of Rowan hopes he never sees his old friend again so he doesn’t have to punish them, but that would be an occupational hazard of being the police chief.

— Edgar was born on 4th April 1973 at 12:09am and is the youngest of two sons born to Ryan Francisco, a neurosurgeon, and his wife Isabel, a court stenographer. His brother Rico is older than him by 4 years and they were both taught to speak fluent Spanish by both of their parents. They lived in Queens.
— Edgar’s first love was baseball. He always played with his brother in their yard and their local park, often spending hours watching it on TV too. Their father took them to their first game when Edgar was seven and it remains to be his favourite memory. He also loves espionage novels and enjoys his downtime by reading them with tea and cookies.
— He grew up happy, although his father spent a lot of time out of the house due to his demanding job. Edgar looked up to Ryan, admiring his ambition, skill, compassion, and for a very brief time Edgar wanted to be a surgeon too (only after wanting to be a zookeeper, a scuba diver, a professional baseball player, and an astronaut, though). He was also close to his brother and mother: they would go on days out into the city together and spend time reading in the evenings amongst other things. This was when his love of literature began.
— Unlike his brother, Edgar was ambitious and always wanted to be challenged, especially at school. He was influenced by his mother and became interested in law because of her. He wanted to be the most successful prosecutor in NYC, so ensured that he studied hard to get through high school to focus solely on learning the law and making his parents proud. Meanwhile, Rico was getting into trouble with his teachers and also with the authorities. He’d been involved in the wrong crowds, getting involved in thefts and drug dealing, and brought shame to their parents. At the age of 19, Rico eventually left home in the dead of night and left a note to Edgar saying how sorry he was and that he’d be okay on his own. They wouldn’t see each other for another seven years and that meeting was a very brief one in the Christmas shopping crowds of lower Manhattan.
— Edgar graduated from Harvard at the top of his class. He had a four year long feud with a fellow student named Thomas and had vowed to beat him into getting top scores. They ended up being best friends and whilst Thomas ended up moving to Washington DC, they stayed in contact and see each other around the holidays.
— Edgar moved back home after graduating and after spending a couple of months helping his parents renovate their house he completed a strict study regime for his bar review before passing the bar exam first try. He then got his first job at the Queens District Attorney’s office as a clerk before working his way up to ADA. At the age of 32, he transferred from Queens to Manhattan, upping his workload and moving into a city apartment and has been there ever since. He still visits his parents often, though.
— He became an inadvertent affiliate of The Syndicate when he helped out his brother in certain dodgy dealings and in turn met Anaïs, who he tried not fall for but he did (and did so hard even if he won't admit it out loud to anyone other than Anaïs herself). In what little spare time he has, Edgar works for her father- Syndicate leader Petros, who made him realise that his talents could be put to good use in the world of crime with great rewards.
— Although ambitious and wanting to be a District Attorney (and even Attorney General), Edgar has been very comfortable in his ADA career and despite his experience he thinks he still has a way to go (little does he know that it’s just the self-doubt talking). He understands that it involves a lot of power and responsibility and doesn’t want to be watched too closely by government officials or the public considering his ties to crime.
✧・゚— W AN T E D C O N N E C T I O N S
— COLLEAGUES & ASSOCIATES: If your muse also works in law- especially in Manhattan- then it’s likely they’ve crossed paths with Edgar. Maybe they’re friends or maybe they’re rivals, but I’m up for discussing anything!
— OLDER BROTHER: Rico (or name UTP) is almost four years older than Edgar and has been involved in crime since his mid-teens. He’s an efficient thief and has evaded arrest on countless occasions. The two were very close when they were younger, but as soon as Rico left home things changed drastically and now that Edgar is lowkey involved in The Syndicate I’m also up to discussing anything in regards to how that might have changed their relationship (maybe it brought them back together or maybe there’s still a wedge between them)!

— Laurie was born at 5:55pm on 24th August 1971 in Daytona Beach, FL, to Mitchell and Nancy Morganthal. He is their only child.
— As a young boy, Laurie spent many a day at the beach. He mainly went with his friends under the supervision of their parents and spent hours digging trenches in the sand and snorkelling in the sea. He always finds the beach relaxing and, as an adult, wishes he would go more often.
— Laurie grew up wanting to be a pilot like this father. For Halloween he would dress up as a captain and would get his father’s name tag to pin to the jacket. Despite idolising his father, Mitch was away for work for a lot of the time and Laurie’s mother grew paranoid. She began to think he was purposely staying away and having affairs. He always seemed to be making excuses and disappointed both Nancy and Laurie. He missed birthdays and anniversaries and didn’t seem to care very much. Laurie always felt conflicted: Mitch was his father but he was an absent father and figuring out how to feel about the situation was more confusing than anything else.
— Nancy would take out her anger and frustration about Mitch on Laurie. He endured shouting, screaming, and sobbing, and very rarely suffered physical abuse, but when he did he would hide under his bed sheets or in his wardrobe. He would often sneak around the house just so his mother didn’t see him and accidentally trigger a response in her. He never had any lasting physical scars, but the emotional ones were there for life.
— It was during this period of turmoil when Laurie found an escape in books. Thanks to his teacher at school, he was encouraged to read more and instead of spending time with other children he was tucked away in a corner somewhere with a book. He quickly went from falling behind in class to being the student with the highest grades in reading and writing.
— He was bullied for being a ‘nerd’ amongst other things and, against his nature, Laurie punched an older boy in the nose when he stole Laurie’s favourite book from him. Nobody physically messed with him again, but he was still called names and teased until he was 12.
— As he got older, Laurie’s relationship with his mother began to fail. She was drinking a lot, lost her job at a law firm, and was between shifts at local beachside restaurants and bars. At night, Laurie had to put himself to bed when his mother went out to work and had to cook his own meals (eventually being helped by a neighbour who took pity on both him and Nancy and volunteered to assist them).
— Nancy had every right to be paranoid, however, because Mitch was having affairs. She threw his stuff out for him to collect and changed the locks on the doors. He tried to apologise and make up for his so-called mistakes, but Nancy put her foot down. She stopped Mitch from seeing Laurie and kicked him out of their lives for good.
— When he was 9, Laurie’s parents divorced. Despite what she had said about Mitch in anger and hatred and in gratitude for getting rid of him, Nancy was always an emotional wreck. She often cried when she thought Laurie was asleep and would stay in bed most days. Laurie himself, when he wasn’t at school, took care of his mother in the best way he could as neither of them had any other family.
— Laurie didn’t see his father again until his 16th birthday. Mitch showed up to the house uninvited, but because Laurie wanted him there Nancy couldn’t object. Mitch’s gift to his son was the promise of a college education; he had set aside money to be used in another two years for Laurie to go to whatever university he wanted. They both knew by then that Laurie was no longer pursuing his childhood dream of being a pilot and Laurie told his father about his passion for literature. Mitch was supportive and was thrilled that Laurie wanted to go to NYU. Their relationship never fully healed from the strain it took when Laurie was a child, but the two were civil and Mitch never saw Nancy unless absolutely necessary.
— Laurie found popularity at NYU when he started his English Literature degree. He lived in halls of residence and gained many friends from across all different courses, but mainly in English courses. After promising himself not to drink after what happened with his mother, he was peer pressured into partying and consuming alcohol. He never became a heavy drinker, but sometimes found it difficult to stop drinking once he started, but this was usually only the case when he was particularly stressed or angry. He also went out with his first girlfriend during his first year.
— Following his graduation and after struggling to find a job for months (after taking shifts at a diner to earn money) Laurie landed an opportunity at a small publishing house in the city. He started from the bottom, essentially doing the mundane tasks before being being given a chance to do ‘real’ work. The senior members at this company trained him and taught him all the tricks of the trade and set him up for life. Today, that particular company no longer exists as it went bankrupt, but Laurie himself employs several of his old colleagues in his own successful company out of gratitude.
— Laurie lived with an old roommate at the time, which made it slightly easier to pay rent, and through that friend at a Christmas party he met his eventual wife, Emmy, who was starting out in her career as a cardiologist. They were mad for each other; they dated for two years and were engaged for a little over a year before getting married and taking their honeymoon in Italy.
— Emmy wanted a children and also to move closer to her parents in Austin, TX, but Laurie’s mind was fixated on his work. He was rarely out of the office and even when he was he was cooped up in his study at home. Their relationship broke quickly; Laurie and Emmy were always bickering and began to resent each other. Not two years into their marriage, they were divorced and Emmy returned to Texas. It wasn’t until months later that Laurie felt regret for what happened: he had a beautiful, talented, wonderful wife and he let that go without even realising how much of a mistake he made. But in true Laurie fashion, he distracted himself through his work and having flings with other women.
— Between the ages of 27 and 43, Laurie worked at several different publishers in the city and worked with many prestigious clients. He even did some work for a publishing company in London very briefly. He’d been considering setting up his own company for several years and now that he had made a name for himself he felt capable and confident enough to do. Thus began Empire State Publications: named after Laurie’s self-proclaimed home and set up in a Manhattan office building. It specialises in novels, but also publishes comics, magazines, and online works.
— He is the editor and publisher of Val Dupont’s @yarn-spinning hit books from the ‘Margot Sees Magic’ series. Laurie is trusted by Val to ensure their creative vision gets across in their books and that all mistakes made during the drafting process using Val’s speech-to-text technology are corrected. The two formed both a professional and personal relationship.
— Through Val, Laurie was roped into the dealings of the Brotherhood. He believed that his skills and personality would fit in and could be put to further use and found himself in communications, using his connections in various social circles and industries to pass along messages and intelligence.
— Laurie also never sees either of his parents anymore. He cut himself off from his mother after his divorce because of her continued toxicity and doesn’t know where his dad is. He’s glad that neither of them are around and that he can focus on his own life without having to worry about anyone else. It might seem selfish, but after years of putting up with pain and putting his mother first he can finally be free.
✧・゚— W A N T E D C O N N E C T I O N S
— EDITORIAL ASSISTANT: This muse would work closely with Laurie, organising his meetings and doing other admin jobs as well as supporting other editors. The two of them would more than likely end up as friends outside of the office too, but that can be UTP!
— AUTHORS & EDITORS: If your muse is a new author or a bestselling author, then they might have their book published and edited by Empire State Publications, or maybe by Laurie himself! Or perhaps they’re an editor who has been around since the company’s founding or are just starting their new job at ESP. Either way your muse would know Laurie in a professional setting.
— FLINGS: Laurie likes to frequent bars, usually higher-end ones, on his quieter evenings and will flirt if he’s in the mood. He’s incredibly charming and skilful in the art of persuasion, which can lead to sharing drinks and perhaps even an invitation back to his apartment. If your muse chooses to stay, then they can expect an interesting night ahead.
— AN OLD FLAME: if you, like me, would like explore Laurie’s softer side and explore his younger years, then your muse could be his very first girlfriend! They met at NYU and were mad for each other and fate had a cruel hand in splitting them up- the rest is up to you!

Congratulations, BECKY! You’ve been accepted as PALLENE with a FC change to FIVEL STEWART.
Becky, you delivered a character as rich as the honeyed smiles you described Anastasia as having with a complexity as deep as the darkness you implied lurks behind it. It was difficult to choose between the apps for Anastasia, but ultimately I couldn’t get your visions for her out of my head. She’s youthful and you see it in the way she wants to be adored and the way she uses her powers and I can’t even describe how excited I am to see the sort of havoc that only she can wreak on this city.
Welcome to Mutants Rising! Please read the checklist and submit your account within 24 hours.
Out of Character Information:
NAME/ALIAS: Becky
PRONOUNS: she/her
AGE: 23
TIMEZONE & ACTIVITY LEVEL: GMT, online daily
TRIGGERS: None
In Character Information:
DESIRED ROLE: Anastasia Ahn ( Pallene )
GENDER/PRONOUNS: cisfemale, she/her
DETAILS & ANALYSIS: This is where you show us who the character is to you! The format of this doesn’t matter, whether it’s in bullet points or in para form, and can be as long as you’d like it to be. Feel free to get creative!
Anastasia got chewed up and spat out as a teenager but instead of healing she found herself with powers, which– what sixteen year old doesn’t want to find out that she has the ability to change the emotions of those around her?
She’s pretty for the sake of covering up the bad things that she knows exist inside her: jealousy and revenge. It kind of reminds me of that scene from Jennifer’s Body where Jennifer is trying to smooth foundation over her face in an attempt to cover up the fact that she’s a blood sucking vampire.
I guess it plays off of the idea that monsters hide in plain sight
And it’s not that she’s evil – she’s just incredibly sensitive and knows how to hold a grudge. She wants better and she wants more and she consumes to fill the gap inside her that she doesn’t otherwise know what to do with
She’s an amalgamation of every twenty-something year old that looks back on her mistakes and decides that other people were the problem. It’s far easier to blame everyone else than herself, after all.
She wants to remain lovely and she wants to be seen as someone to aspire to be like and she wants to be satisfied and she wants to feel full and, above all, she wants to be adored.
Also inspired by this quote from Florence +The Machine’s artistic director: “It’s about the power the darkness of longing can give you when you embrace your inner beast alone…. Women who bond themselves together like this, and rise up together like this, are usually accused of being witches, so I wanted to explore that. I also wanted to create an abstraction of Florence as if every woman was a small piece of glass that had shattered inside her. Now they join her outside her body and fight with her, love with her, go to war with her.”
BIO:
The wannabe beauty queen. The sickeningly stereotypical airhead cheerleader. The girl with a post-divorce-rich mum who loves spending her time in exotic locations and comes and goes, but mostly goes, and the apologetic don’t-forget-I-love-you-even-though-I-screwed-my-receptionist dad that gives her gifts to make up for the dance recitals and birthday parties he missed when she was a child. Shallow popularity is worn like the diamante-studded tiara she got for her sweet-sixteen, glistening brightly to dazzle and distract from below-average grades.
Her teachers tell her she needs to try harder. Scorned students that she’s ostracized flock like vultures to her grades on results day, picking at the sun-bleached bones of a carcass that spells out the word FAIL. But try as she might to study, headaches plague her. Unable to concentrate in class, her parents, respectively, pay for doctors to assess her, to figure out the cause of the sharp-shooting pain that sometimes ends in nosebleeds. Red stains the pale pink silk of her dress on prom night. Carrie’s anger isn’t lost on her – in hindsight it’s ironic, really.
Her ability manifests slowly. Slow enough that she doesn’t realise it at first. Bizarre happenings that could be circumstances begin to add up until there’s no mistaking that something strange is at play. Unrequited love turns to adoration from the boy who lives next door who has never so much as even expressed that he knows her name until now. Previously unsympathetic teachers look at her with pity and decide to raise her grade as she tugs at their heartstrings.
It isn’t until she uses her newfound gift to make her parents fall in love with one another again that she realises she’s different. She’s special. The world was her dolls house and she was free to dictate the emotions of the pretty plastic people inside. Everyone could be happy. Everyone would love her.
Everyone, and everything, would fall apart.
Like a love spell from a fairytale, her unpracticed manipulations soon wear thin and revert to that which was once before. A sugar-sweet kiss turns rotten, confusion sweeping across her lover’s face as he attempts to figure out why her tongue was just in his mouth. Teachers frown when they re-read her essays, blaming her for somehow altering her grade. Her parents wake up and begin yelling all over again, echoes of her childhood biting at her heels like jaw-snapping hounds.
Left staring at the ruins of her life, Anastasia runs. She vows not to use her powers again, terrified of herself and a lack of control over them. A period of homelessness and a string of low-paid jobs are what leads her to wind up at Cornerstore Convenience, searching for a shift or two that she can pick up to try and make rent at her new entirely unloveable basement apartment. Turned away by the cashier, in desperation she uses her curse ( no longer a gift, no longer anything but trouble ) to persuade them to reconsider.
Her first shift, as it happens, is less of a trial-run and more of an assessment. A wide-eyed teenager whose world has already been turned upside down, she watches the universe rearrange itself once more. Truth unravels as she’s introduced to Derek, and then to Angela, and then – once words like mutants and power and family swim through her skull – to Damien.
Six years later and her gift turned curse turned ability is no longer the chemical taste of terror in the back of her mouth. Anastasia has regained her confidence in using her emotional manipulation, allowing it to curl around her mind like a feline whose affection is hard won but worthwhile. Still striving to be picture perfect, something dark lurks behind her practiced honeyed smiles and there’s a hint of danger to the way her fingertips dance over the cheekbones of anyone who dares to get too close.
EXPANDED CONNECTIONS:
CHANCE MATTHEWS: Ever a perfectionist, Anastasia had seen Chance as her Prince Charming. She’d played the game of love with devotion and care, being there for him when he needed advice, offering solace and warmth and affection. They had been happy, she thought. Had she not been pretty enough? Sweet enough? Pure enough? His increasing distance stings like a slap, leaving her to sulk bitterly in his wake.
SHAE KNOX: Of all the people to lurk amongst the shadows of The House, Anastasia never would have expected to find herself staring into the familiar brown eyes of an old friend. Squeals of joy while running barefoot across the lawn; sleepovers spent eating too much chocolate; teary goodbyes when Anastasia’s dad sold her childhood home. Surrounded by strangers, Shae was a beacon in the dark. A lighthouse of protection. They continue to be a comfort, even now, especially now, standing tall through the various storms that continue to howl through Anastasia’s life. She owes them a lot and will stand with them through thick and thin.
ISAAC CASTILLA: Boys like him are dangerous enough without abilities. A sky-high ego and a switchblade smirk, he’s the mirror-image of the troublemakers at school who would kiss and tell, smudging the lipgloss of girls whose hearts hadn’t known better. Anastasia’s not above tricking a teenager into feeding her information – she’ll play dirty with a mouth full of sweet lies in the hope she can prove to Damien – and, in extension, his son – just how much of an asset she is.
EXTRA:
I’d make a playlist but it would just be the entirety of Marina and the Diamonds’ Electra Heart album
I sort of see her as a mixture of Lavender Brown from Harry Potter, Elaine from The Love Witch,  and Tinker Bell from Peter Pan
Couldn’t resist a pinterest board
ANYTHING ELSE: FC change to Fivel Stewart or Natasha Liu Bordizzo if possible! ( no preference )

the tale  —
There was a time when all she knew was a perpetual feeling of happiness. There are some who would try to rationalize away what little they know of you — a cruel childhood perhaps, jealousy of her sister, lack of love—but it was all laughable and untrue, and you would be the first to point that out. Born as the first child to affluent parents, you were raised in between worlds. Your father, pureblood, an only child, somewhat eccentric especially by pureblood standards, more interested in spells and scrolls until he met your mother, a muggle of no lesser aristocratic bearing. Privately, you think there must be a Squib somewhere, for some of the heirlooms of your mother are too interesting to be non-magical, but it’s not something you’re looking to pursue at this point. Yours is a childhood filled with delight in a world of turmoil, untouched by changes and opinions in society. The first change is good. The birth of your sister, nine years after your own, was like Christmas came early. You grew up with loving parents unafraid to defy expectations, and you too can love freely. The latter, you can not. You love Olivia with all your heart, and it’s with a feeling of homesickness you board the Hogwarts Express for the first time.
That’s the first time things truly are different from your expectations. You thought Ravenclaw, maybe, not a Hufflepuff like your father, but you were sorted in Slytherin. Your magical grandparents rejoiced – a granddaughter to reestablish their family as prominent, compared to their in that regard disappointing son. You weren’t quite sure what to expect. The first year, you keep your head down – pay attention in class, pay attention to the dynamics in the Common Room, and know: you’re several feet behind the rest of your housemates. Slytherin was not ignorant to girls like you – young and intrepid and greedy, but there were many of you, and you’re already behind the rest. Your second year, you fight your way to a spot on the Quidditch team. In the open sky, you can leave both your own and others’ expectations behind, and the burning need, the want inside you gets you the position of starting Seeker more than your raw talent.
It’s an armor of sorts. You don’t often talk about your family, your home, and when you do it’s in off-handed remarks that barely skim the surface. The rest of her armor she finds by observing her elder housemates, and learns from them. To be aloof was to leave more to the imagination; to turn your nose up at those who hadn’t had the good sense to be born with your talent and intelligence was to give your lessers a better look at your elegant profile. Perhaps not truly elegant yet, but everything can be imitated, and you carry yourself with a barely restrained ferocity that’s a little too unpolished, but no one remarks on that. At least, not while you’re around. That, you consider a victory. In the classroom, you devour knowledge with the appetite of a starving man. Quidditch is fun, but parts of it come easy to you, and in your lessons, there is enough that does not. You practice until you can do everything perfectly, and on more than one occasion you fall asleep in your canopy bed, curtains drawn and face mushed on a book from the restricted area. Knowledge is power, they say, but there’s pleasure in knowledge for knowledge’s sake as well.
Hogwarts passes all too quickly. Your fourth year cements you as captain; your sixth strikes you with loss. You’ve always known your father enjoys his experiments, the opportunity to look at artifacts others don’t understand, and from what you manage to piece together from professor Slughorn, pale-faced as he interrupts your training, it is with the latter something has gone wrong. Your father is dead, your mother still in the balance. Eventually, she awakens, but not everything is as before. She’s forgetful, has grown frailer, and there’s a gnawing worry in you that she will not survive the winter.
She does, though. And the next and the next and the next. It is no surprise you have an offer from the Montrose Magpies before you have the excellent NEWT results. You find a vicious pleasure in being the better of those who think themselves superior of you by virtue of their birth, but by now, you’ve managed to push that part of yourself away between a pleasant façade. It’s not a climate favorable to those proud of what they are, and it worries you in the same way the bone-rattling coughs of your mother do. Years later, you breathe a secret sigh of relief when Olivia is sorted in Hufflepuff. She will not have to worry about belonging, about losing her tenuous grasp on her position. If you can do anything about it, she won’t have to live in anticipation of the next loss.
For a while, however, that thought takes a backseat to other practical matters. At first, the Quidditch leagues are largely free from the turmoil plaguing the rest of Britain, until there too, people start disappearing. Two muggleborn teammates disappear. Whether they were arrested or saw the writing on the wall, you don’t know. Several muggles are killed in the aftermath of matches, and as you zoom around the field, you look down on the stands and wonder which spectators decked in black and white would gladly kill your mother after cheering your name. When you move into your townhouse in Mayfair, you take the collection of books your father left intact with you, if only to save yourself the trouble of figuring out which ones to keep and which ones to discard at that point. Part of you hopes to find a way to reverse the course of your mother’s illness, but healing has never been your strong suit, and there is as much darkness in magic as there is light.
There are quiet expectations placed upon you. You’ve conformed to the hierarchy of Slytherin while in school, and though never overtly enthusiastic, you’ve never given someone a reason to doubt your logical political leanings. Of course you support the Dark Lord, you say when asked, ignoring the taste of ash it leaves in your mouth, fixing them with your most imperious stare. Your mother worsens. Some days, she does not know who you are. She lives with her own parents now, and though it pains you to do so (losing a child is worse than losing a parent, they say), you can not let her upset the delicate balance, the lie, you’ve created for yourself.
Someone else does it for you, pushes you to action. When the wards around your grandparents’ house are disturbed, you are left with little choice. You still don’t know if it was a deliberate attack or a matter of simply living in the wrong muggle neighborhood, but regardless, you fight. And you win, in more ways than one. The concept of a horcrux is intriguing enough in itself, and for someone with a penchant for plotting, you follow your impulse with a frightening decisiveness. Oh, you have pondered it before, but it is the death of your grandparents – their murder – that creates the circumstances. You are the last healthy family member your sister has, and you will do whatever you can to ensure her safety in this world. When you take on two Death Eaters and win, it’s a vision of startling clarity; your physical hurts are incomparable to the mental anguish of ripping a part of your soul out of your body, but when the dust settles, you know you have done the right thing. Gas leak in central London, the muggle press reports. Several dead, houses destroyed, many more injured. You mentally thank your professor for the elucidating lecture on solid to gaseous transfiguration in your seventh year, and you go home.
You are still afraid.

Savana knew she had wasted her time in this vile, corrupt city—idly hoping her sister had not abandoned her. But it had been three days and no one had come for her. Anyone else, they might have, or at least left some provisions at the safe house they had used as temporary hide-out. But not for her they hadn’t – they hadn’t expected her to survive. That knowledge bit worse than any blade, but she also knew the situation for what it was: finally, an opportunity to prove herself.
And she had gone to her death instead. Where she had faltered, she didn’t know, but someone had caught her thieving and now she was surrounded by four imperial guards. Her power thrummed inside her, flaring as she tensed her hand; releasing it would mean her flying away unseen, but it would also expose her for what she was. A female thief’s worst punishment was being sold to a brothel, where she would be able to await a chance to escape; a gifted person looked at far worse fates.
But she hadn’t wanted to go down without a fight, angry – despite the rational voice in her head telling her there was no time for such childish pettiness – that Aubrey had never trusted her to fight alongside her, always made to sneak and slink and spy instead. Her daggers had done some damage, but a sword had cleaved into her side and now, despite managing to take them all down eventually, she was going to die.
She had crawled into an alleyway and sat clutching at her side, blood oozing slowly from smaller cuts but gushing over her fingers much more rapidly, and knew that it was over. Going out there meant having the face more guards that would soon arrive, and they wouldn’t waste a healer on a skinny slip of a girl already a breath away from death. It left a bitter taste in her mouth, knowing that for all she’d fought not to, she would die in a gutter anyway.
