here's the thing. jack is a gentle person who was forced into being tough and strong and fierce by circumstance. his hands are calloused and his knuckles are bruised when he picks flowers to display in the window by his bed and when he wipes away tears from a younger boy and when he braids the hair of a little girl who can't do it herself. and davey is a fierce, angry person who has learned to be gentle and quiet and pleasant by circumstance. he isn't used to being in a fist fight but when he stops trying to be otherwise, his words are sharp and pointed and direct even when he's offering comfort and kindness and wit. jack has never had the chance to just be gentle without fighting for it. davey has never allowed himself to exist without a filter.

“Why do you like crossovers so much?”

Normal Answer: My favorite shows canonically crossed over when I was younger and it made me realize the potential and fun crossovers can bring!

My Answer: I saw 2 low res drawings of Merida/Rapunzel and Hiccup/Jack Frost making out Sloppy Style and being besties on my shitass ipod and it forever changed my brain chemistry. For better or for worse I can’t tell you, but I am having fun here.

one very potent zuko misconception i see in fic all the time is that zuko is very… conspicuous and also is totally oblivious to it. but that’s canonically not true at all. when he wants to be hidden, that’s exactly what he’ll do.

i am using this opportunity to remind you all that zuko:

broke into the pohai stronghold (twice) and stayed hidden until either a) he confronted someone or b) his and aang’s escape attempt which forced them to be in a vulnerable position

broke into the northern water tribe and remained unseen until he confronted katara in the oasis

before he broke into the north pole he stayed hidden on one of the fire nation ships until he could escape. yes, iroh was there, but to maintain his cover, zuko would have largely had to fend for himself

post-crossroads of destiny, he sneaks around the palace, into the dragon catacombs and to the prison without anyone he doesn’t purposely confront knowing

during the eclipse - he snuck away from the capital and out of the country on an air balloon (a highly suspicious act that he would have most definitely had to be discrete about - you know, since he was literally committing treason)

when directly confronted, he’s not the type to be able to just lie their way out (like when azula tricks him into telling him he visited iroh) but chances are he’s not going to let it get to that.

//my favorite thing lately has been scrubbing the internet for decades old samurai jack edits and amvs and watching them. there’s so much love for samurai jack in them, faith that he would be back to finish his tale one day, and it fits perfectly with the time it came out lol. the edits aren’t as great as they would be with technology nowadays and the music is often linkin park but there’s always an open love for Jack and the series in there. and there’s something about seeing people love Jack even when it’s not at it’s most angsty, when it’s just seasons 1-4, without the novelty, without anything else to focus on but what makes Jack Jack.

been thinking about this post lately and i wish i had the gumption to write a fic where jack calls his mama to tell her the news that he's getting married after knocking lureen up. i don't know if he'd tell her he got her pregnant, but i like thinking about how she'd react to the news. i don't think jack had ever mentioned lureen to his mama before, so when he says he's getting married it probably comes as a real shock to her, and she probably figures that something fishy is afoot. her concerns are also probably confirmed when she gets word of little bobby's arrival less than nine months after the wedding...

i think she'd be okay with it, though. sure, she wouldn't be happy that he got her pregnant before they were married, but she's probably glad to see some uhh. direction in jack's life. i feel like she's also always had her suspicions about her son's sexuality, and so it comes as a reassurance to her that he's finally interested in the things he 'should' be interested in, like having a wife and raising up a family.

but then he visits home after seeing Ennis in the fall of 1967, and he spares very few words for his family in between all the ramblimg about Ennis, and it's at that moment she knows without a doubt that her baby boy is different, because it's the first time she's seen him so vibrant and alive since...well, since the summer he'd met Ennis. And it hurts her, but she realizes then that it's something she has to come to terms with, cause it seems like Ennis del Mar is going to be sticking around for awhile yet...
