In dealing with such abhorrent misogyny, I take strength from the resilience of my sisters throughput Iranian history: Qorrat Al-Ayn (mid 19th century CE), Parvin E’tesami (early 20th century CE), Forough Farrokhzad (mid 20th century CE) and Simin Daneshvar (mid-late century CE) among other feminists who neither possessed self-hating colonized minds nor were Islamophobes 🚺 Patriarchy is indeed universal but its overt and shameless manifestation in the laws and everyday culture of the Islamic Republic of Iran is nauseating—and what is most disappointing is the group of so-called “intellectual” men (by all means not all) who sadisticly uphold these inequalities instead of joining their mothers, wives, sisters, fellow female citizens in AT LEAST questioning these cruel laws and traditions. So far only self-described “secular” men have belittled my qualifications, reduced me to the wife of so and so, and taken issue with the way that I dress, the way I cover my hair etc. While holding doors for me to which I respond, open the door to a women becoming president. Don’t bullshit me by opening a petty door for me or holding my bag (I can carry heavy bags, plus carry a child to full-term, give birth and multitask—beat that gentlemen!). No one is free until everyone is free obviously. And Iranians, especially women are perfectly capable of fighting for their rights—so hands off Iran! And may no deceiving government of the United States nor its thieving child-murdering European colony named Israel ever dare use the cause of women or other legitimate causes to touch this or any other country.
