hey you look up to me more than junpei right ?

                                ❛     well   yeah.     ❜     although   in   truth   ,   she   was   just   equally   as   bad   of   an   influence   as   junpei   was.   ken   decided   he   would   keep   that   opinion   to   himself.   she   ,   however   ,   was   a   great   leader.   someone   who   could   step   up   &   take   charge   when   they   needed   someone   to   guide   them.   not   that   junpei   wasn’t   without   his   OWN   strengths.   he   was   someone   who   could   pull   them   through   a   negative   situation   with   his   kind   demeanor   &   positive   attitude.   he’d   also   been   someone   who   ken   could   constantly   confide   in   …   although   he   wasn’t   as   much   HOMEWORK   help..

                                                    yet   together   the   two   were   ….   a   mess.

                                ❛     oh   wow   ,   you   made   them   yourself   senpai   ?     ❜    giving   a   smile   ,   ken   closed   his   book   &   placed   it   on   the   coffee   table   before   him.   sliding   himself   of   the   couch   he   ,   perhaps   too   excitedly   ,   made   his   way   over   to   the   dinning   table   ——   taking   in   a   deep   inhale   ;   the   OVERWHELMING   scent   of   pumpkin   &   cinnamon   was   just   too   amazing   for   words.   closing   his   eyes   for   a   moment   to   enjoy   the   aroma   ,   ken   quickly   opens   them   back   up   &   reaches   for   a   cookie   to   call   his   own.

placing   the   treat   between   his   lips   ,   it’s   soft   texture   simply   melts   into   his   mouth.   pumpkin   ,   cinnamon   &   perhaps   a   titch   of   chocolate   to   bring   flavors   together   in   peaceful   harmony   mingled   &   danced   on   his   taste   buds.   chewing   his   first   bite   ,   ken’s   eyes   seem   to   glow   with   child   wonder.   like   opening   a   gift   at   christmas   time   –   this   was   perhaps   the   best   thing   he’d   ever   eaten   ,   sweets   wise.

❛     these   are   really   really   good   ,   my   mom   used   to   make   fall   treats   like   this   too..     ❜    he   goes   quiet   at   the  end   ,   a   pause   before   he   fills   the   silence   with   a   few   more   bites   of   his   cookie.   finishing   it  all   in   a   matter   of   HUNGRY   bites.   his   mother   ,   she   would   let   ken   help   make   all   sorts   of   treats.   he   would   lick   the   spoon   &   the   two   would   make   wonders   of   amazing   things   —-   chestnut   optics   dropping   to   the   floor   in   reflect   of   the   past.

                          the   streets   were   filled   with   idle   chatter   ,   a   quaint   cafe   filled   with   couples   &   friends   alike.   taking   in   the   sweet   aroma   of   tea   cakes   &   other   sweets   ;   ken   stops   to   have   a   quick   look   at   the   menu.   not   that   a   grade   schooler   would   come   alone   ,   but   if   they   had   something   to   go   perhaps   he’d   be   more   inclined.   down   the   street   he   hears   the   clang   of   metal   ,   the   strong   sound   of   tools   that   introduced   POWER.   kens   optics   finding   their   way   toward   the   mechanics   shop.   his   feet   already   making   their   way   through   childish   curiosity.   the   boyish   sense   of   machinery,   how   things   worked   &   how   they   came   to   be   clung   to   his   figure   as   he   poked   his   head   inside.

                       ❛     w-wow   ...     ❜     amazement   seeping   as   he   gazes   around   ,   finding   some   form   of   COURAGE   to   finally   enter.    ❛     u-uhm   ....   excuse   me?     ❜

           warmth.   something   he   wasn’t   used   to   with   the   chill   that   constantly   surrounded   his   bound   heart.   but   if   only   for   a   moment   it   seemed   that   it   all   simply   seemed   to   MELT   away.   the   two   sat   together   on   the   sofa   ,   her   head   rested   on   his   shoulder   ;   hearts   beating   fast   as   he’s   unsure   really   what   to   do.   biting   his   lip   for   a   moment   ,   ken   had   missed   this   small   kindle.   this   warmth   he’d   once   received   by   someone   he’d   held   dear.   almost   akin   to   a   mothers   touch   ,   something   the   girl   lacked   as   well.   although   she   was   younger   ,   ken   couldn’t   help   but   feel   as   though   she’d   suffered   much   more   then   he.   she’d   not   known   the   world   was   as   vast   as   it   was   ,   no   ,   not   like   he   had.    she’d   not   been   there   to   witness   such   TRAGEDY.   

ken   could   only   thank   whatever   god   was   looking   down   on   them   for   that.   she’d   not   deserved   such   devastation.   losing   HER   was   hard   enough   ,   nanako   should   not   have   to   STAIN   her   eyes   like   he   had.

shifting   slightly   ,   the   boy   rests   his   head   atop   hers   ,   taking   in   this   missed   frame    of   affection.   he’d   rest   here   for   a   while   if   she’d   allowed.

                                      class   trips   had   never   truly   been   his   favorite.   nerves   settling   in   as   ken   thinks   about   koromaru   home   alone   ,   thankful   that   yukari   had   volunteered   to   check   in   on   him   every   day   &   take   him   for   walks.   exhaling   as   he’d   exited   the   bus   ,   the   school   had   made   reservations   to   stay   at   the   amagi   inn   ;   curious   to   where   he’d   heard   the   name   before.   

given   free   time   after   the   group   had   settled   in   ,   the   students   had   all   departed   &   cursed   the   rural   lands   that   had   been   inaba   which   held   no   form   of   entertainment   --   ken   absently   peering   about   as   he   tried   to   remember   the   scenery   as   he’d   last   seen   it   ,   picking   apart   his   memories   from   that   one   fateful   day.   the   resurrection   of   what   appeared   to   be   TARTARUS   ,   as   well   as   the   world   weighing   once   more   on   their   shoulders. 

breaking   from   past   thoughts   ,   ken   had   found   himself   at   JUNES   ;   a   smile   as   a   familiar   face   was   caught   in   the   distance.

                                                           ❛     excuse   me   ,     ❜    stepping   from   the   landing   on   the   stairs   ,   the   boy   walks   with   some   form   of   superiority.   as   if   ,   although   he  had   attended   this   school   for   only   a   couple   months   ,   he’d   run   the   place   himself.   the   raven   had   been   out   of   place   ,   his   white   collared   shirt   striking   from   the   black   &   plaid   around   them.   apart   of   the   student   council   ,   ken   had   deemed   himself   as   someone   who   could   protect   the   students   by   whatever   means   necessary   ---   although   ,   he   was   sure   it   wouldn’t   have   to   come   to   that   with   how   confused   the   other   appeared.

                                                       an   infiltration.   although   the   boy   had   his   reservations   ,   spending   his   last   year   of   high   school   surrounded   by   complete   strangers   --   he   had   a   job   to   do   ,   something   only   ken   could   take   care   of.    the   city   of   tokyo   was   vast   ,   the   cities   lights   bound   to   keep   the   boy   awake   at   night    in   search   for   shadows   that   lurked   in   the   dark.   

eyes   vacant   as   he   rode   the   subway   to   school   ,   shujin   academy   --   a   place   of   both   mystery   &   old   school   charm.   a   disciplinary   member   band   attached   to   his   sleeve   ,   a   hand   reaching   to   adjust   the   tag   he’d   given   to   himself   thanks   to   the   student   council   president   ----   only   to   stop   mid   reach   ,   eyes   catching   hint   of   a   ...   tail?

                                   the   two   had   been   talking   about   this   &   that   late   into   the   night.   it   had   been  close   to   midnight   when   the   two   were   saying   their   goodbyes   to  retire   for   the   evening   —   when   the   magician   had   cast   a   glance   of   horror.   a   finger   wagged   shakily   toward   the   window   behind   the   boy   &   ken   in   turn   had   FROZEN   his   small   frame   still.   if   he’d   dared   to   move   ,   would   whatever   creature   whom   lingered   outside   his   window   find   its   way   in   —   to   feast   upon   his   flesh   &   finish   him   once   &   for   all?   

ken   dare   not   turn   around   ,   eyes   focused   on   the   floor   in   case   shadows   of   the   night   try   equipped   with   deaths   door   to   take   his   soul.   junpei   stand   before   him   ,   perhaps   darker   then   any   demon   with   foolish   intent   to   fool   the   boy   ;   ken   gullible   although   mature   ;   he   was   not   WITHOUT   a   child's   mind.   even   without   the   man’s   help   ,   his   eye   made   enemies   of   the   branches   outside   his   window   —   creatures   in   his   closet   &   monsters   under   his   bed.   he   was   not   without   fear.   the   night   –   the  DARK   HOUR   his   greatest   horror.

                           ❛     …   junpei-san.     ❜    he   starts   slow   ,   a   harsh   swallow   in   the   suffocating   silence   between   them   seemingly   shatters.   ❛     i’m   telling   mitsuru-san.     ❜

                               ❛     AH   THERE   YOU   ARE   ,   are   you   ready   to   go   ,   senpai   ?     ❜    a   boyish   smile   ,   chestnut   opals   simply   shining   as   she   walks   down   the   stairs.   he’d   been   waiting   for   HOURS   ,   having   not   slept   a   wink   since   the   two   had   decided   to   go   out   for   lunch   that   day.   despite   junpei’s   laughter   ,   probably   from   the   excitement   that   seemed   to   BLEED   from   ken’s   every   pore    (   ken   being   sure   to   give   his   elder   a   well   deserved   glare   )    he   was   more   then   ready   to   go.
