summary — love love love, what’s it good for? absolutely nothing. yet, to gyujeong love remains something holy and sacred, he keeps close to his heart. it takes him quite a bit to reach this stage, but once he’s there he’s afloat. his person is his home, and the way he shows it is through his primary love languages: acts of service, and quality time. response to that is just as well the same as he requires the same amount he pours in or else the dissonance gets to him. playlist summary — gyujeong’s primary way of showing he loves / cares for someone beyond the scope of a friend is through a playlist. though he’ll make playlists for friends, those types are usually just copy and pastes of his most listened to music. however, for those he loves, he makes sure to take thought to craft a careful story in each of the playlists he creates. it’s by his nature he doesn’t want a response up front, but hopes that each person takes in the listen to read between the lines of what he can’t say sometimes. for context, i want to preface that gyujeong has no game at all. lmao, it’s non existent, and he’s terrible at dating. in fact, he’s only had one girlfriend in his whole entire life, and that started when he was young

thus, he continues to have no game and tbh in future scenarios, i only see him falling in love again in a situation where the person likes him first, and he doesn’t realize until the confession that what he feels is feelings more than just steady conversation (i hope that makes sense)

nonetheless, with his small sample size — gyujeong is still pretty much a rock solid lover

in terms of being whipped, he’s really whipped. he’ll tell people within their first conversation that he’s in a relationship, and to please respect that while also ensuring that he doesn’t cross boundaries with anyone aka: he will avoid people like the plague if he thinks that it would make his partner uncomfortable

his love languages are pretty simple — acts of service, and quality time together

acts of service constitute the majority where he’ll write handwritten letters, make playlists and take them out a few times a week (schedule allowing). the reason for the letters are because he’s technically not that good with words, and feels like when he has time to write up a draft and explain things concretely, he’s able to emphasize his words a bit better

similarly with playlists, he thinks the most intimate form of communication is through these playlists. not many people understand his music taste, nor does he share his suggestions often — so, having these playlists constitute of a lot of ballads, slow paced songs he wants to share with someone. aka: he’s a gatekeeper of music, but he’ll open his gates for his person

though, he doesn’t want to listen to the playlist together when he first gifts someone a mixtape. instead, what he wants is to plug earphones in their ears, and take a walk together without saying anything. he just wants to kind of bask in the silence by taking a silent walk while his partner is listening to the songs, and he just observes the reaction — odd tidbit, i know, but what’s gyu to do

and in regards to walks, he’s not really a superficial person in regards to having gifts or giving gifts. instead, what he wants most is to spend quality time? he thinks love should have that at the forefront of the foundation, and he wants to do nothing with his person. though he doesn’t cook often, he learns to cook because he thinks it’s nice to prepare a meal together or to bake a cake to celebrate 100 days together (ofc he’s only done this once, so yeah…. wishful thinking on his own part).

he just likes quality time whether that be lounging around in the house together, taking walks around hangang or just people watching in a cafe. he’s pretty low-matinenced in that he wants to make trivial? minor? memories with his significant other. sure, you can have big planned events but he thinks linking the day-to-day activities mean more than anything else

i guess you could say he’s a bit clingy? and for someone who doesn’t really like physical touch all that much, he does like hugging/holding hands/cuddling with his partner. he just likes having them around because at the end of the day, his version of how he shows and appreciates love comes down to that.

interior: a softer sentimentalist — his music gravitates towards a softer, paler version of him that’s often times nestled inside a harder exterior he fronts for strangers. close friends have experienced this side, knowing this is genuine. his music rarely gravitates towards ‘harder hitting’ songs that cater towards the public image. instead, it’s a more reserved, subdued shadow he sits in. playlist summary: he’s written, composed and arranged a lot of songs over the span of his career. first, it began with job duties, and submitting songs for other groups to consume. grass is greener on the other side, and contrary to his own belief, getting his solo debut didn’t make it any better. now, he’s just teetering between the lines of writing for other groups, but prioritizing his own music when inspiration dawns. over the course of his career, he’s found his own favorites that he finds himself listening to when most times, he wouldn’t be caught dead listening to his own music. this is his top ten favorites (in specific order). wc: 471

generally speaking, gyujeong has this 반전매력 (reverse charm??) associated with him and his music. his image shows one thing, especially with the rumors. yet, when you take a close look at his music, it turns into this softspoken sadboy who just writes about getting his heart broken a million times over

it’s no surprise that this is true to who he is : ) 

(it also adds to why the gyujeong fans really think of him as ‘boyfriend material’ despite what rumors fly around because they want to believe he’s all soft on the inside. haters will say he has a ghost writer and gold star is just image making for the fact he had those rumors)

but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to write something with a hard hitting beat or just something fun (ex: any song, maestro, ddu du ddu du), it just means he resonates with the more softer / emotional songs he writes

that said, he’s no ballader so you won’t see him belt. but you will see him sing / song or almost speak-rap in a full song — or if that’s not the case, he knows he can’t sing the full song? he’ll give it to another group to sing it on his behalf, because that way he can’t get sick of listening to himself trying to rap

he tends to listen to these songs of his because they are easy listening. sometimes, it hurts his brain when there’s too much noise and with these songs, he’s able to just sit back, relax and sulk a bit easier than with other music

the songs also hold a lot of sentimental value? each one in its own right, and each one has a poignant story. the weight of each song is what makes them in his top ten

the ironic part is the songs that he deems his favorite are often the ones neglected on the charts (aside from a few songs — but he blames the success of those songs due to the feature or the group singing it rather than his own ability) 

another ironic fact is that his songs that he enjoys are the ones that took the least amount of time to write — his last album took a few weeks to write, produce etc. and the others took a span of a few days because he was writing like he had a fever

there are blatant imperfections in the songs he released, but he thinks that makes the charm of unprocessed songs? makes it more visceral / palpable to how he was feeling at the time

fun fact: he doesn’t remember writing the rough draft two of the songs because he was pretty much blacked out, but after listening to it and fine tuning it, he gets a sense of what he was feeling that night

just gyujeong things — headcanon & aesthetic

summary — gyujeong does things that are sometimes considered unconventional by most. does he know why he does the things that he does? no. however, he tends to stick by what makes him comfortable, especially in his apartment. because most of the things are in his private life, fans aren’t privy to this aspect and still consider gyujeong a ‘cool boy’. in reality, he’s a dweeby loser with no life. wc — 474

a lot of gyujeong’s quirk and habits lie in his apartment, and i would consider them to be very tailored to his characteristic traits

it’s difficult to explain in terms of what those traits are, but through these explanations, there should be some better understanding of what makes gyujeong, gyujeong.

first off, jorts in winter. gyujeong tends to wear a lot of shorts in winter, and a lot of baggy pants / heavy clothing in the summer. why? i don’t know, he considers it annoying to put on layers when the weather is hot. however, his stylist makes sure he doesn’t leave the house for a schedule like this. instead, the jorts and shorts are reserved for when he makes a quick run to the nearest convenience store, or just goes to pick up coffee — he’ll be wearing slippers and shorts

speaking of convenience stores, gyujeong is the type to dress up to the max. it’s not jorts and slippers. instead, he pairs it with his most expensive watch, some chrome hearts jewelry and vivienne westwood jewelry to make a statement at the convenience store. for someone who wants to go unnoticed, he does like to dress up to the nines. most times, people just do a double take because they think he’s some weirdo. he likes to explain that he’s experimenting with fashion

gyujeong also likes to spend money on expensive / meaningless art pieces he thought were really cool when he went to an art museum in the states. for example, he buys james terrell which is basically just a light you fix onto the blank wall. he liked the concept at the time, and purchased a piece — luckily, there’s no tax on artwork like these so it’s a good investment that pays off in the end

soaps — gyujeong is very hygienic. he has a soap for everything imaginable, and likes to separate soaps based on body part. there’s new soaps for any new guests that washes their hand, and he makes sure to send the soap home with them. no cross-contamination in his house

going off of hygiene, he gifts anyone that walks into his house a new pair of prada house slippers. why prada? because it’s reasonable, goes with anything, and fits into any aesthetic of the person. plus, he considers the price reasonable compared to other luxury brands. the funny part is, you’d think this is an expensive thing to do, but gyujeong’s probably only had like 5 visitors max in his new house, so really, he doesn’t spend much money here

otaku here also has a studio ghibli-esque ridiculous cat treehouse for his cat, tokki, who hates him. he purchased because of the “aesthetic”, not because he loves the cat. after all, it’s a nice statement piece for anyone who walks by :)

summary — a general layout for the “vibe” that gyujeong has in his little mannerisms. they’re like little crumbs you can see his personality in through each picture, the good the bad the ugly. not necessarily shown towards other, it’s the small little “quirks” (i hate this word) that makes gyu, gyu. playlist summary — most times people want to refer to gyujeong as grumpy. however, in most of his interactions, he’s rarely ever blatantly harmful to the other person. instead, most times there’s an underlying softness? if you can call it that, where he basically tucks his tail away and says something kind-ish that gets swept under the rug of superficial conversations. as a result, most times people would relate his essence to a travis scott / asap rocky vibe, but in reality — he’s more of a drake rapper where there’s a tinge more of sentimentality with what he carries. these aren’t the songs that best describe him, per se, but more so the songs that “feel” most like him. if you take a listen, there’s bits of gyu to all the songs. wc — 418

summary — a final end to a chapter that’s spanned a whole decade, and it leaves him completely empty (not to be overdramatic). but enough that all he does is hug his pillow, cry and mope around to an end he saw coming playlist summary —  they say that with heartbreak, people are more prone to feel the pain instead of letting it go. masochistic, or whatever you may call it — it’s the truth and cliche that gets people. in the end, gyujeong isn’t immune and what resorts is the forever ongoing collection of songs that he plays on repeat, any time he’s able to play music. the songs are sad, talk about how heartbreak causes ongoing loneliness. reminds him of the past, and then prompts him to cry till he lulls himself back to sleep. no signs of happy songs, especially when he’s rooted in promotions that has him putting up a front. wc — 483

this breakup was obviously one that he saw coming — it wasn’t ever intended that he’d stay with yeseul and have everything be happily ever after, with a few ups and downs

instead, it was meant to be more of a way to show that first loves usually don’t work, despite how much you want it to and how much you try to make it work

to put it short, they became different people. yeseul started seeing her family again, and slowly getting back into her family’s graces after leaving and having a tumultuous past all these years. meanwhile, gyujeong became a pigeonholed work freak aka an idol who really didn’t have it all together, overworked and completely bored with life because work sucked the life out of him

as much as yeseul tried to be there, surprising him, being there at the apartment — it wasn’t enough, considering they couldn’t be attached at the hip as they were as kids. plus, when they were kids they had less responsibilities considering their parents were supporting them and now as adults, they were figuring out life and how they intertwined their lives after growing apart for so long

the time, yeseul waited patiently. but gyujeong couldn’t deliver the soft spoken words or the time she wanted. instead, it ended in a lot of sorry’s and we’ll talk about it later considering gyujeong pushes away tough subjects 99% of the time. thus, the relationship didn’t feel like a priority in yeseul’s eyes, despite gyujeong making it the top priority.

he expected things to be perfectly fine back to how they were as kids. but how many people truly stay the same person they were at 14? that puppy love blinded him for a decade, and he thought what he was chasing for all this time would fall right into his lap, unscathed. but adult love is different than puppy love — more commitment, more seriousness. it can’t always be fun and games

the relationship went downfall after the initial joys of being adults inside this relationships. the freedom to date was limited, they couldn’t be normal in public. so many limitations and not enough work leads to the end

they both saw it coming, and it was a mutual heartbreak? they could’ve pressed it on further, and tried to make it work despite arguing. but they both knew what wasn’t being spoken: it wasn’t the same. it changed. they weren’t helping each other as people

they were on different paths, and the fights weren’t explosive as they would be as kids. instead, it would be a passive aggressive fight? soft, and not really loud — the lack of passion inside it led them to realize it was a dying flame

however, it still kills gyujeong because he feels like what’s the point of trying in life when what you chase becomes nothing more than second up to the memory.

headcanon & aesthetic — wardrobe pt. 1

summary — this is gonna be a series, but i’m starting with shoes. gyujeong’s been in the fashion venture for a while, and has shown various different styles throughout his career. he’s been pegged as having an eccentric and unique type of fashion that doesn’t blend in the crowd, and one part of that is because he has a collection of shoes that seems like he never wears the same shoes twice unless it’s his tabi’s, slippers or converse. (probably did this on gyujeong’s previous blog but this is all refreshed and made new) warnings — none wc — 631

just like with any outfit, gyujeong considers the accessories, more specifically the shoes to be just as important as the outfit itself. he’s had this fascination with shoes since he was younger when he used to collect jordans / wear air force 1’s as a kid. however, his mom never allowed him to spend so much on shoes, so gyujeong was always limited

it’s probably why he gravitates towards shoes first when he starts making his money himself. they’re not expensive in theory, considering a cardigan at a luxury retail can cost anywhere from $2000-8000 dollars whereas a pair of shoes rarely exceeds $2000. so, to him buying a pair of shoes right then and there doesn’t seem like he’s splurging

as a result, when any new shoes come out — any rare collaborations or one time released colorways, he’s always the first to buy it. he will use the app to try to wait in line, and if he doesn’t he’ll buy it resale value (he’s paid $2000 for his pair of travis scott nike dunks)

but with the rarity shoes, he rarely wears them just because they seem like more decoration pieces for his apartment than actual pieces to wear out — ie) the nike air max 97 sean wotherspoon collab was fun to wear once, but afterwards he just didn’t see to wear them and it was just nice to say he owned a pair than style it out

with things like his dior x jordan collab — he wears that easily out, just because it’s easy to slip onto his feet and a timeless piece. it’s not loud, and thus it just blends in with the rest of his outfits

one thing fans always point out is gyujeong’s love of tabi shoes. margiela when they first released the tabi’s, that’s when gyujeong was sporting the pig feet looking boots — however, as they’ve expanded it and made it a ‘staple’ style, he also bought a pair of sneakers which caused awful blisters but he wore them anyways bc he thinks they’re cute and stylish

so, that’s the gist with his ‘comfy’ shoes — they’re either just jordans he slaps on, regular sneakers like the saint laurent logo sneakers, tabi sneakers or even just chuck 70’s. most times than not, these are the ones he wears for dance practice vids or dance practice

the other comfortable shoe he picks is usually his slides? he’ll alternate, but recently he’s just been into the yeezy slides because they’re so comfortable (from personal experience 10/10 recommend). he has five pairs as his house slippers, and for guests if he ever has them. then, he has two pairs he’ll go to wear out to the convenience store or just hang out at gold star

the last section would be his dressy shoes, which consist of mainly loafers. he loves his chanel x pharell loafers, and most times than not he’ll sport these for ‘airport pics’. plus, they fit with his brand deal, so that’s another plus

he also luvs his martine rose shoes — a lot. they make his feet look like clown feet, but honestly, he loves that look because he purposely buys a size bigger than his shoe size since he likes how his feet look in terms of outfit coordination when his feet stick out

refuses to wear gucci loafers once the general public started eating it up — no way in hell he wears those loafers or mules because they’re too generic for his liking. if u wear those, u are a square to him

all in all, his shoe taste is pretty similar to his clothing taste. it’s unique and the public either thinks gyujeong has the same 4 pairs of shoes or has so many he never wears them twice.

headcanon & aesthetic / empty

gyujeong’s first touch in platinum’s discography consists of the title track “공허해” (empty). after going behind the scenes for other groups, he finally participated in platinum’s title, being credited for partial lyrics, full melody and partial production of the track. the song peaked at number one on gaon, and becomes the first song that he’s recognized for within group. warnings / none wc / 598

empty is gyujeong’s first song he wrote for platinum — and it honestly didn’t come up as something he was actively wanting to do. with platinum, he likes to divide up his work things — producing / composing / lyricisms are separated from his group work because he likes to think the group doesn’t get the real him

however, he did gain some success in writing songs for other groups, ones that did pretty well. though he was more known as a girl group songwriter, it was the general vibes of the song that made gold star reach out first and ask if he had any songs

prior to this, gold star already knew that gyujeong was bringing down the image of platinum due to his scandals — so, they didn’t want to make it seem like he was getting special treatment, being able to partake in the group’s music while the other members didn’t. but you can’t deny he’s talented at song writing, as his records show a good track record. thus, gold star basically forced him to fork up his harddrive

they went down the list and settled with empty, which is a moodier more  ballad-y version adding in acoustics and a longing feel to the song. it suited the platinum storyline of being a softer group despite the song having a bigger emphasis on rap on his part

so, he forked it up — and basically gold star took his song and made it more gold star, platinum presentable

the main thing was that the song in the original form wasn’t a love song — it was a friendship break up song. meaning, the themes highlighted throughout were about feeling empty about a close friend leaving your side. however, gold star knows that corny love songs sell best — so, they altered the lyrics a bit in order to make it fit the bill

and guess what — it pays off. because the song does really well. gyujeong didn’t expect the success to his song, and was partially upset because the meaning of the song lost it’s entirety when gold star decided to flip it as a romance song. but it’s okay when the checks from royalties continue to come straight down the banks

the best part of the song was that they kept the melody in the full entirety, and he got a hand at the final mixing stages of the song — in that, he got to add in the ad-libs where he envisioned it, and explained what mood was supposed to be exuded sonically to the in-house producers

the best turn is that he ended up becoming pretty friendly with one of the gold star in-house producers, to the point where they’ll collab on unreleased tracks and gyujeong will always pop in to make conversation when he’s around gold star buildings.

of course, this was back in 2017 and within the span of 2017 to now, he got himself into more scandals which basically made gold star slap him on the wrist saying that’s no no to making any more title tracks. as a result, the fall back into the more emphasis on ballad-y songs on platinum’s part has left him feel stripped from freedom inside his own group without any greed to do more.

this doesn’t mean that he’s ignored his group, though. he has a lot of drafts sitting on his hard drive of songs he created with his group mates in mind, and someday, gold star might let him take more production (forced or not) but that’s still up for debate as to how he’ll feel when it’s like a double edged sword

headcanon & aesthetic / airport fashion 

highlighting his favorite looks / styles that he wore during the earlier years of his career — airport fashion, and the fans dub him as a ‘fashionable’ idol. whether it’s monochrome or a mirage of colors, he’s probably sported every style / look up until this point. he takes the airport as a fashion runway, and plans his outfits accordingly. (forewarning: he’s the most pretentious when it comes to fashion out of my three muses — fashion 101 by chung gyujeong & hyeri) / this is all new writing, based on where i see gyu’s headspace for his career in fashion  warnings / none wc / 1016

as a rookie, airport fashion was important as it gave fans / spectators a glimpse of gold star idoldom. as a result, he didn’t get to dress himself often — or entirely dress himself. this meant getting the help of the stylist to put him in random clothes, that fit his mood / image. this paid off as his stylist as mentioned before is one of his close friends, and so spawns a series of outfit collaborations from his stylist.

the old style used to be cool of wearing all black — but let’s be realistic, this was so 2018. mainly, gyujeong started wearing all black in 2017, where he wore a lot of enfant riches deprimes earlier iterations (i hc that he’s one of the first to wear the brand in korea as the brand only started picking up hype around 2019 / 2020). however, erd has a long history of having controversial t-shirts, so he would only wear the logo play and a few jackets here and there — still, the brand remains one of his favorites and a brand he’d love to collaborate with

with the black trend, he kept to a lot of niche brands? he’d play around with feminine brands such as the row, where they have a lot of minimalistic pieces. though, he’d never touch acne studios as it’s some cheap cop out where the quality isn’t set forth more than the price — it’s not worth to him, and it’s just something everyone basically has in his closet. it’s the same with cdg play, and why he refuses to wear cdg. he doesn’t want pieces that everyone in korea can wear, and thus he doesn’t have a lot of things from these brands.

however, that being said — gyujeong during his ‘black wear’ era, would also wear a lot of hedi slimane pieces from hedi’s stint in dior homme (the crinkle skinny jeans his fave, despite his fans saying otherwise). he also took a lot of inspo from hedi’s stint at saint laurent, and collected the 2013 / 2014 debut showcase pieces from the boots (emphasis on the zippers of the boots), and the teddy jackets. the teddy jackets he still wears from time to time as it’s timeless, and still to this day, he continues to say that hedi is the best thing that SLP has ever had and the reason why anthony vaccarello has any base to start with (fight him on this, he’ll support hedi slimane till he dies)

i would say his earlier days created looks that were more coherent and oddly clean — like some of it was baggy and questionable, but there was a crisp look due to the influences him and his friend had around that time.

then, gyujeong decided too many people were wearing all black and he opted for his white era. the white era consisted of more street wear pieces — though, he’s proud to say he’s never owned a virgil abloh piece as he doesn’t respect virgil’s plagiarism. thus, you’ll never see him in virgil’s early pyrex or lv, or even off white. however, he did wear a lot of heron preston and stone island. stone island was something he was introduced to early as it was a brand he grew up with, but the street wear aspect he found more enticing and thus started playing with their various materials.

he appreciates stone island’s nylon fabrics and their occasional goretex.

also, to be classic — gyujeong used to sport a lot of nike, whether it was acg or nike lab. however, that got cut short when platinum began to be sponsored by adidas. as a result, he’s not allowed to wear nike, though he still supports the brand when he can and suggests to people that nike > adidas.

the biggest regret of his airport fashion would be sporting thom browne. before the trend of the white shirts, cardigans and the loafers came to fruition, nobody really wore that much thom browne. as a result, gyujeong wore a lot of coats that played on the mini houndstooth pattern ways, and just plain black. it was warm, yes. but soon after the hype of thom browne became a thing, it was another brand in the dumpsters like cdg to him

he was never a fan of alexander wang? but can’t deny a nice basic black or white t-shirt. as a result, he does own a few wang pieces despite not being that into the brand — he’s mentioned however in an interview that the wang t-shirts are his favorite

marcel everette t-shirts are also his favorites, and fans have caught him sporting the same t-shirt over and over for weeks. however, the t-shirts are all different as he owns more than 30 of the same t-shirt because it’s one of his staples. but fan speculation leads to the hashtag #buygyujeonganewshirt

gyujeong doesn’t care how far they’re traveling on plane. he’s very much fashion over comfort, and as a result have worn one too many weird things over the years that cause a lot of discomfort but look good on camera. these mainly deal with the shoes, where he’ll wear boots — carol christian poell, guidi boots, and margiela’s tabi boots were some of his favs. he tends to really love leather boots, a lot. though lately this fascination has passed and he’s into sneakers now.  however, he’ll never forget how much his feet hurt putting those on and how good he looked in the photos

gyujeong’s thoughts about his members, and how he feels towards them warnings / none wc / 482

contrary to popular belief, he doesn’t hate his members at all. instead, he feels some gravitational pull towards them — a closeness? that’s not really dictated by “i love u sm, you’re my brother! let’s hang out 24/7, are you crying? i’ll be at ur beck and call” but more in a way that’s like buying you a bacchus-d or a lemona when he senses you’re being tired, or making sure he has 4 probiotic packets in his bag to give out to his members

he’s a show-er not a sayer — he shows his affection through actions, and they’re very subtle and aren’t really paired with his gruff ? curt? way of words, as a result — it’s more so, just confusing at times. a person glancing past would assume he doesn’t like his members, but closer observers like staff would see that he really cares for his members

and this also to a degree relays off to friendships too, but that can be explained in another headcanon

mainly, the feelings he has towards his members aren’t a ‘i’m better than you’ or a ‘man this sucks i hate being an idol’, even if the latter may hold true, his feelings are more ‘i’m sorry for making your life shit’. because even if it’s not entirely his fault, he feels like the brunt of gold star when they fuck up schedules, overbook, etc. is due to his scandals and how he brings the group down

as a result, it’s mainly one of the reasons why he puts up with a lot of the idol antics in this verse. he has less complaints vocalized to staff and he floats on by, going with the flow — he feels any sort of verbalization would mean his group would have to suffer on his behalf. especially, since he feels like he’s constantly treading thin ice with gold star

mainly, it’s why he resigned too. because platinum itself is a small group, and losing one member seemed like it would be a bad look — he didn’t want to hold the group down in that way, so he resigned.

winter inspiration — headcanon, playlist & aesthetic

summary — inspiration falls differently with each season, except this winter seems like the longest one yet. gyujeong’s been writing less music despite having a surge of inspiration. inspiration comes from different parts of his day to day life, and where he draws the most is where he tends to continue pursuing. lately, it consists of writing, anime and son yejin. playlist summary — though he’s only really influenced by drake’s albums, sometimes gyujeong finds himself in a predicament when he listens to the same track on and on again. these songs give him some sort of inspiration of the music he’d want to create. yet, it becomes thwarted by the reminder that when given the musical freedom, he’s only left to make shitty ultraviolet edm beats. despite this, he continues to curate playlists for the sake of getting to it later, using it as fuel for himself to someday make better music than his current situation. this playlist is a mixed bag of genre as gyujeong’s been here and there with what inspires him. wc — 552

yeah, gyu’s a bit weird in what inspires him this winter — nothing is really coherent. and that’s the gist of his inspiration — incoherencies, and that’s what he’s just drawn to

classical music — gyujeong has a background in classical music because he used to go to piano hakwon everyday as a child. his mother thought it was mandatory that all her children learn how to play the piano, and turns out, gyujeong was quite good at it. he was the best out of his siblings, and he learned pretty quickly. now, after being in the industry for so long, he strayed away from it but somehow he landed on the weird side of youtube at 3am where it led him to a few bach and beethoven pieces, so that’s now what plays as his background music instead of his guilty pleasure (600 lbs life).

drake — everyone can shit on drake all they want, but gyujeong will defend drake till the very end. he doesn’t know why he vibes with drake so much (well, probably because he’s a lonely loser that doesn’t know anything), but he does. drake releases a new album? gyujeong streams it along with streaming old drake songs. the old love songs that made drake a meme? those are gyujeong’s favorite and he’s having fun with the meme-factor of it

dynamite — he thinks this song is hilarious. from the lyrics to how it was marketed, he thinks it’s funny. feels bad for polaris, but also finds it intriguing how a song can elicit so much laughter from him. because of that, it’s his inspiration to write beyond sad songs and start to write comical humor

the other songs are just classics that give him a taste of nostalgia for an era he never lived in. they’re more superficial inspirations? so, he doesn’t put that much thought beyond that the sounds were so raw back then, the mastering wasn’t as pristine, yet they stay true to the test of time. longevity — he wants that.

anime — he’s always inspired by anime, but lately it’s been a lot of makoto shinkai movies. he hasn’t been watching series, but been watching straight up romance anime movies because it makes him cry, and he enjoys living vicariously within a fictional world. it swallows him whole and he considers it a profound experience everyone should try

writing — he’s never been a journaler because he finds the concept annoying. writing feels like a chore, but he finds that when he scribbles down one or two thoughts he had in the day or what he did that day, it pieces together a familiarity for when he goes back. plus, writing one or two thoughts doesn’t consist of a page and fits his lazy ass <3

son yejin — in addition to makoto shinkai movies, gyujeong’s been watching a lot of old son yejin movies and dramas. he’s named her his ideal type once or twice, with the explanation: he hasn’t seen anyone more beautiful when they cry and he likes dog faces more than cat faces. he likes to pretend he’s the co-star in whatever she’s starring in, and try to write songs that paint a picture to her tears. this is SO lame, i know. but since he’s been in a sadder mood lately, he writes break up songs about son yejin instead of thinking about his ex : )

aesthetic & headcanon — base award show solo stage

summary — haon will be performing his song, “any song” at the base awards. the single release was met with high success, leading for a mutual decision between gold star and haon to perform a solo stage with only one song. the setting, and the outfits were visualized by gyujeong before presenting it to gold star for approval. inspired by hedi slimane in his saint laurent paris era, gyujeong pays homage to the fashion designer through his outfit choice, and lack of props on stage as he creates a ‘fun’ (as fun as it can be) stage to a song that many people knows the words to. wc — 478

the lie is that gold star and haon both agreed to do one song for the stage. though gold star pushed for two or three, gyujeong remained firmed that he only wanted to do one. (his own reasoning: he didn’t want to be on stage for that long, nor did he want to perform in the first place). so, out of all his songs, gold star chooses any song as it has been the most popular of his releases, and has been catchy enough that the crowd can follow along.

another lie is that gyujeong wanted to have the stage set up a certain way to perform. it’s a half-lie as gyujeong did want to have creative input in how he performs, but he didn’t want to do it in a way that gold star had imagined.

basically, his set up is a stage where he lays in bed, wakes up and puts on his leopard coat to start that song. however, the stage doesn’t just stay on stage, but instead extends to the crowd (similar to the acting award performances). he jumps from the stage and onto the floor to where other idols and celebrities may be, takes an empty seat to recite a few verses before popping onto the next

hence, it’s a very interactive stage where he has to pretend to be friends with other idols for the sake of the performance

it’s only then that he falls back on stage to do the viral tik tok dance, which gold star thinks is genius (their idea ofc) because it brings the crowd to follow along to the dance, since most of the people have seen / know the challenge already.

it’s not his idealized stage, but the silver lining is that it’s only one song, so he doesn’t have to be on stage for longer than five minutes.

in terms of outfits, his outfit pays homage to hedi slimane. he’s a fan of hedi, but can’t technically wear saint laurent a lot since it’s a lot of skinny jeans / not within the scope of his chanel brand deal. but he’s able to do so because chanel is a womenswear line, and by putting him in saint laurent paris, there’s nothing overtly showy with the logo

so, he wears a saint laurent fur coat along, a basic white t-shirt, with the skinny jeans from slp. tops it off with a pair of season 13/14 wyatt chelsea boots. also, he keeps the accessories minimal with a chain from chrome hearts along with a pair of chanel sunglasses

summary — new year brings a new start to resolutions, some of them easier to keep than others. this is the first year gyujeong’s had a gameplan for the new year in how he takes care of his body, and what he’s focusing on his career. he’s definitely a J over a P, so his planning is methodological in how he executes his resolutions, albeit  he’s uncertain of how he’ll hold up once the year starts picking up. most of the resolutions consist of more health conscious decisions, and contradictions of those. but mainly, it’s a year for him to ‘grow up’. warnings — working out has never been gyujeong’s forte, nor has he put much thought into it. the gym is a foreign place where he pops in here and there, but so far he’s been making an active decision to get a personal trainer and head to the gym (when he remembers, of course). in turn, there’s a list of songs that’s usually playing throughout that he keeps in his ‘gym playlist’ that frequently gets updated. most are high up-beat songs to keep him focused, while others are just songs he’s been working on that he enjoys the melody of / needs to keep thinking of. wc — 797

new years resolutions focus on getting older and wiser, and taking care of his ‘adult’ life. it sounds silly, but he’s done a poor job thus far, and now it’s only caught his attention that he ought to be doing better in terms of his life. so, he’s created a list of things he wants to do in this upcoming year to help him mentally and physically : )

drinking more water — this is everyone’s resolution, isn’t it? but it didn’t occur to him until his manager called him out for only drinking one bottle of 500ml water throughout the whole day. gyujeong predominantly runs on espresso. he drinks a lot of coffee throughout his day, and that’s led him to just live off of caffeine. so, his resolution is to drink more water and less caffeine (maybe, he’ll learn to do better in terms of weaning off his caffeine addiction). the probability of him actually following through? i give it a 4/10. he’ll drink when he remembers, but for the most part he’ll just stick to coffee

getting a pet fish — he has a cat right now, and maybe it’s not the best to place a demon cat and a fish together in the same room. however, gyujeong’s very into fish and aqua-life despite never having a pet fish. he’s scared he won’t take good care of them, and that they’ll be so fragile that they pass away lmao. so, his goal is to get a fresh water tank in his apartment, so he can have at least one fish that he can take care of. this is more healing for the mind. probability? 10/10 for sure he keeps this one.

work out — continuing on the health train, gyujeong decides he wants to work out. not because he wants to start drinking protein and having muscle but more so because he’s found his posture slouching, and his body not working like it used to. his friend owns a gym, so he decides that 2023 is the year he actually sticks to working out. in the past, he’s attempted this but it’s never extended longer than a two month period. so, he just got a personal trainer and paid for a year of personal training. so far, it works out but when he gets busy, who knows if he’ll even step foot in a gym. probability is a 5/10, still iffy considering he seems serious this time.

make less shitty music — the music he’s created in 2022 has been shit (in his eyes). it’s not the greatest production value, and most times, it comes from either taking his old stuff or just shoving a bunch of random beats together hoping gold star takes it, so he can be free again. as an artist, he struggles with creating something of value to him without the exploitation of the public. so, his hopes are to settle down, maybe produce less (if gold star lets him) and hone in on quality over quantity. if all fails, he knows that ultraviolet royalties have him set for the rest of his life. probability? 1/10 — gold star will always win.

fashion — focus more on fashion endeavors. he’s neglected fashion in 2022, especially only releasing one line. it’s because he’s busy, and he has no time to look at clothes, shop, and curate his own clothing brand. so, his goal is to focus more on fashion whether that be photoshoots, his brand, or his deal with chanel. even if it means less sleep, maybe it’ll resurge something of his lifeless body. 7/10 on this one.

get better at drinking — he’s tired of drinking and not remembering anything. having two shots of soju and then blacking out, turning red — that’s what kids do. gyujeong thinks he’s at the age where he can’t avoid alcohol forever, especially not in the fashion industry. so, he’s gonna try to learn how to drink better (start easy with beer, and slowly transition). how well this works? probably terribly. however, gyujeong’s gonna give this a try. 8/10

end the year blues — headcanon, aesthetic & playlist

summary — winter brings earlier nights, and that’s where he inevitably ends up dwelling in the end of the year. the end of the year’s always the hardest and loneliest for gyujeong, despite being the period where he’s the busiest career wise. the paradox brings this familiar melancholic feeling he can’t shake out, and it bleeds into the spring until the weather pulls and flowers start to bloom. winter time blue, seasonal depression — call it what you will, but it’s something that causes late night walks, feeling cold and then finally passing out until the sun rises and it’s time to repeat. playlist summary — end of the year also accounts for more music than usual. his earphones in his ears as he nods off to and from late night schedules, and even during it. the weather calls for some typical winter songs, and the peak of the ballad, slow-music beating through the speakers. beats will fall through from the time he wakes up till he falls asleep as he calls this his “white noise” getting him through the winter drought. perhaps, maybe in some warped world, he’d be listening to happier music getting ready to look forward to what’s to come in 2023 (but that’s not necessarily the case here). wc: 483

i’m aware that this playlist sounds / feels a lot more like minjung than gyujeong, but wintertime gyujeong is pretty similar to baseline minjung — aside from the fact that gyu’s probably a bit more sadder? melancholic? in general during this time

it’s less about sad boy hours, and more about just wallowing in wasted time. time feels wasted despite being busy. there’s staff around him constantly, but that sort of crowd just makes the sound feel more deafening to the point where his own voice feels empty

as a result, he’s reverted to just popping in his headphones and drowning out his own misery through the sounds of sad sounding music / crooning ballads

which, normally, he won’t listen to ballads but tis the season! people might be listening to jellyfish’s christmas song, or ariana grande, but gyu won’t budge and he’ll probably even be listening to these songs on christmas night

the thing about this music is that it makes time feel like it’s at a standstill despite it passing, and by now, he just uses it as the soundtrack to his life. meaning: when he wakes up, the playlist is played. and before he goes to sleep, he hits play to listen to it as he falls asleep

though gyu isn’t really a drinker, this is probably his most “experimental” era when it comes to taking a sip of beer or drinking wine. it obviously doesn’t end well because he ends up blacking out because of it, but regardless, he tries because it “fits” the mood.

if not, he spends his nights on walks where he’ll take walks in the cold dead of night when no ones around. basically, music in and he starts walking across hangang until his legs feel too frozen to move any further ,which then becomes his cue to go home.

other times, he’ll ride his bike around — for some reason, he doesn’t like to go on drives during the winter season. there’s no driving around, and more just walking or taking a bike to waste time and drown out feelings of bitter loneliness lmao

but that’s only when he has the time? mainly, end of the year causes really busy schedules for him because of award shows / comebacks that platinum has. thus, he really just gets transported by his manager and free time becomes a luxury (another paradox i know)

summary — gyujeong’s favorite sns is instagram, but it becomes a bummer when his own account is mainly handled / managed by gold star. no freedom in posting whatever he wants, it becomes a culmination of what the fans demand, the middle ground of what he wants, and then sponsored posts. it feeds into his image of what gold star’s created, and as a result becomes this depersonalized version of a social media he actually enjoys. warnings — none wc — 584

gyujeong’s instagram was created in 2014 — three years after the debut of platinum (i’m just assuming this rule applies, since it was the rule before).

at first, there was nothing on his feed and he used platinum’s more than his own, and that was only because the company forced him to post selfies onto the page.

now, compared to gyujeong’s instagram stories — his actually feed is somewhat more curated. there’s a certain vibe to each picture, and sometimes he layers multiple pictures together (in the case of his paris trip, he’d merge together pictures of the louvre in one post).

because gyujeong has this curated feed, he doesn’t use any editing apps to change the coloration of each photo. pictures of him, however, are photoshopped because the company doesn’t want him to show off any blemishes as he has an image to maintain

mainly, the pictures of him on his feed are taken by other people. whether it’s his friends, manager, group members, etc. the main point is that he doesn’t have a single selfie on his instagram because he feels like he does enough of that for platinum’s instagram and photocards already. he thinks of selfies as narcissistic while pics other people take are not

this comes to bite him in the ass when these pictures that other people take get misconstrued by fans. the fans think of it as ‘boyfriend image’ and really tend to like the photos — in fact, most of his followers are platinum fans, but there’s a large portion of people / general public who don’t care that he’s an idol. instead, they just follow him for his face and style.

he posts a lot of sponsored? content too. sponsored in the sense that with his chanel brand deal, he posts about the new chanel fashion show, bags / gifts he’s been given, along with anything regarding the times he flies to paris for a fashion trip. however, it’s poor skill and he still has yet to master the art of influencing. instead, it’s just random pics of his diy chanel bags, his new ones, and his outfits that detail chanel.

other things he tends to post are random quotes in a book he’s reading, which of course has to be approved by his manager too. just to make sure people don’t read too much into it, and it seems personal enough that it doesn’t seem like he’s been double checked to post (if that makes sense)

instagram stories were something that gyujeong had to learn? i would assume when he got his own private account, that was before instagram stories were a thing — so, at first, he rarely used it. he rarely used instagram but in recent years i say, starting 2018 is when he started using it as a real thing.

gyujeong is not someone that has a finsta? at least, i don’t think he made one yet. he uses his real one as his finsta, posting whatever the fuck he wants on his stories and then getting scolded for it later — don’t think now, think later.

most of his stories consist of really obscure things? he’ll take a picture of a corner of a wall because he thought it looked cool, and he’ll post it with some song he’s listening to at the moment and call it a day. 

other times, it’s hella simple and he’ll post whatever ice cream he’s eating at 3am, or random pictures of his cat tokki when she’s not trying to kill him. it’s basically just a show and tell presentation to him.

fans try to look deeper into his stories, but most times? there’s not a deeper meaning. instead, it’s pretty clear cut and when he tries to convey something, it’s pretty obvious too

sometimes, artists like to have an aesthetic for their stories too. however, gyujeong’s not that type and there is literally no clearcut pattern in his stories. each story will use different filters, different hues, different things, etc. he cares nothing about aesthetics when it comes to the stories he uses as a diary

recently, gyujeong has been on a drinking binge, and he’s a lightweight. so, most of the drunken stories consist of unflattering angles or just staring into the camera — the most recent one that got attention was when he was blackout drunk and just stared into the camera to record ‘are you sad sometimes too?’ and then post that. however, that caught the attention of many fans, and his manager had to delete it himself.

the stories are usually what gets gyujeong in trouble because with his posts, that’s usually monitored by his manager or some higher up. but since stories are so sporadic, that’s when he gives himself no restraints and posts whatever

other things he posts about — the details of his outfits, things he’s working on for otakgyu, random quotes. these things are really personal, and most fans don’t get how personal it is but he doesn’t post it to let the fans see insight into his daily life but more so he likes the thought of temporary diary entries that he never has to face again

overall, i’d say in a day, gyujeong posts 10-15 stories.

regrets — aesthetic & headcanon

summary — a series of ideas that have come across gyujeong’s head as to how to cope with a breakup. a line of irrational decisions he doesn’t come through to because he can’t find the energy to go out in the first place. (lucky for gold star), and now these have just become fleeting ideas he goes on from time to time when he feels a pang in his gut. warnings — none wc — 497

it’s like a stage of teenage rebellion where you just don’t give a fuck to the point where you go and do whatever on impulse just to revolt against who you are as a person, and decide that maybe “this is the real me. this isn’t a phase, this is how i’m going to live”

however, most times when gyujeong comes up with these ideas, he doesn’t bring any of it to life considering 1) he’s too pussy 2) he can’t bring himself to go through with it or 3) these are just temporary and by the time he goes on to do it, he doesn’t want to do it anymore

not to say these aren’t future possibilities, considering they could add to his character arc later on when the time comes

but the first obvious answer is that no, gyujeong didn’t get any tattoos. i consider him to be a tattoo free character, and he didn’t have any desire in the past to get them. however, post break up all of a sudden he thinks it’s a good idea to get a design he’s saw on his instagram feed done, and mark up his whole entire body. nonetheless, he doesn’t go through with it. thankfully so, considering i don’t think he wants a cliche tattoo marked up to match with everyone else in society.

another random impulse was to shave his head. his hair has become a thing that doesn’t matter to him considering he used to bleach it and dye it every color in the world. the shaving his head thing was like a ‘fuck you, idgaf anymore. i’m going to shave my head.’ and if he had a hair buzzing tool, he probably would have. however, he slept on it and nothing changed. 

a one way ticket to go somewhere would’ve been nice. however, gyujeong didn’t know where he would want to go or where he’d runaway to. the packing or going without being prepared also would’ve made him more stressed once he got to whatever location he bought the one way ticket to — in the end, he decided against that because he knew that there was no way he wouldn’t be caught in the process

drinking is something he actually went through with. he went to a cu and stocked up on a bunch of soju — didn’t know which kind, so he bought one of each brand. he chugged one bottle only to black out and feel sick for days afterwards, so now, he just takes one shot at a time before he becomes a hazy mess and falls asleep

similarly, he thought he’d go to the club or go somewhere to meet other girls. but this one was only stumped because he felt physically sick to pull himself out of bed and socialize with people, pretending all was right. plus, he didn’t want to cry alone in a club, so he decided against that and stayed home. 

aka stupid decisions and possibilities
