She officially made her solo debut on August 25, 2022 with the digital single “Stay Tonight.” Her debut album, LOVERGIRL, was released on October 3, 2022 with the title track “보라빛 밤 (PURPLE NIGHT).” Despite the success of her long-awaited solo debut, many claimed cheri would fail in her new company, and she would always cling to the success of her group.

Chapter 1: Fisherman

Jeonju-si, South Korea 

Date: August/12/2017 

An 8-year-old named Jung Chan-yeol was waiting excitedly for his father to come back home from fishing. He knew that summer was the best time for fishing and that meant he would bring a lot of fish back home. 

It was hot and humid. The small house seemed to feel like an oven. Chan-yeol was sweating because of the heat. Unfortunately, they couldn’t afford an air conditioner so Chan-yeol had to rely on putting a plastic cup filled with ice all over his body to feel cool. 

Meanwhile, Chan-yeol was waiting for his dad his mother was sitting on the old couch who was around 20 years old. His mother was watching TV with a TV that barely works and was 11 years old. 

Finally, Chan-yeol’s dad returned from fishing. Chan-yeol jumped up from the small chair he was sitting in and hugged his father tightly. “Papa, can I see the fish?” he said while looking up at his dad with puppy eyes. “Sure you can, Chan-yeol,” his dad said with a smile. 

His dad pulled out the bucket where the fish were in and opened it up. Chan-yeol saw many fishes swimming inside the pail. Then he felt some sort of sympathy for the fish swimming around in the bucket knowing they were about to be sold and cooked. “Papa, I feel kind of bad for the fish,” Chan-yeol said to his dad while frowning at him. 

“You shouldn't be they are filled with worms.”

Chan-yeol moved to Seoul for 2 reasons. His father thinks he can make more money here from fishing. And to see if there were any chances for his mother to survive lung cancer. Chan-yeol’s mother always had been a heavy smoker ever since he could remember. But it never caused major difficulties in their household. Until her health started deteriorating slowly but surely. 

Even though there were only 2 reasons why he and his family moved to Seoul. Chan-yeol secretly had a reason of his own for why he was so excited to move to Seoul. The reason was that.......

Chan-yeol had been severely bullied ever since he entered 6th grade. He was bullied for 5 different reasons those reasons were

He was just an easy victim 

Chan-yeol just looked like someone who you could just bully easily. And he was, he wouldn't fight back even when he did. He would end up unconscious on the bathroom floor with bruises all over his body. 

He was usually forced to do tasks for the 3rd year boys. Like being forced to steal things from the convenience store for them so they don't have to deal with the consequences. Another thing he had to complete for them was their homework. Sure that sounds cliche but it happened. He also had to do things like getting their PE uniform ready for them and much more. 

As Chan-yeol sat in the car he hoped that here in Seoul his life would be different. That he would be respected by his classmates. Or even make a few companions in his class.

Seo Taiji and Boys (서태지와 아이들) was a trio active between 1992 and 1996. This album changed their sound to a more rock and heavy metal feel than previous albums. There where some controversy surrounding this album, because multiple songs criticised older generations and the Korean education system, especially noted would be the song ‘‘Classroom Idea’‘ which got banned from TV and Radio, even tough it was cared by the Korea Meida Ratind Board (KMRB), one of the reasons for why the song could have gotten banned was because Seo himself did not finish High School, and the group was seen as a negative influence to young people. There was also suspicion of the group adding satanic messages in the background of their songs, though this was based on questionable evidence, it still stirred panic which was hard to remove.

from the start, there were a few roads that the executives at gold star media could have gone down when it came to marketing sohee’s image. they had gotten her by coincidence; if her mother had seen her approached by any other company executive she would have shifted her into the office and signed the contract for anyone – big company or small, but with a respectable body of work behind her in her more junior years, they’d hit on a budding talent carved from vigorous classes and clubs with a pretty face.

and there were few things more marketable in a girl group than a pretty face.

the managers and marketing staff look back on her commercials and respectable yet small parts she had over the years and ponder how to put her out to the public when femme fatale are shoved into the public eye. she’s not sexy; she’s not a complete girl crush; but she’s cute – they conclude. and she’s grown up on screen – the people could see that, they could watch the behind the scenes interviews of the past and see how she’s grown older, wiser ( but not too wise at all ) and prettier. femme fatale isn’t quite the place for cute, but she fills a niche. cute, pretty, sweet, it’s the buzzwords they use when the tell her how to act, you’re a celebrity, they echo, but most of all, you’re attainable, you could be every man’s girlfriend.

it’s a song she knows like the back of her hand ( or her heart, if she wanted to be poetic about it ) -- she’s sung it more times than she can realistically count. 

and here she is again, begging her team to let her make an official cover for it -- despite their suggestions to do something a little more upbeat ; a little more happy ; ‘no ballads’ they had tried to pleaded with her ; naeun still went along with her preparations for the song.

no ballads? did royal really not know her at all?

even with so jisub’s criticisms about how her ballads were boring and repetitive -- naeun still loved them. knew her voice adapted well to them and if anything, at least she hoped her fans would enjoy them as much as she did. 

this time, rather than just sing, she had prepared the piano accompaniment as well. 

it wasn’t her fault that the set designers had pushed for the moody affect -- dimmed lighting, white dress, black piano -- if anything, naeun had just went along with it ( albeit, happily ). rather than the casual, less poised, filming that they had done with her late night cover ; this was much more refined, planned -- and while low-budget, it still was more than just gearing up th recording studio.

she hadn’t expected it at all, but liked it all the same.

while her piano skills aren’t exactly spectacular, she makes it through the first rehearsal without the occasional slips -- the usual blunders of mistaken keys and notes that had occurred when she had first practiced the song the week before. now, it seemed like it was almost second-nature. 

she’s sure the song has had over hundreds of covers already, but as she sings -- the camera whirring around her ; fingers on the keys , she feels herself get lost in the song once again. a difference -- once more -- to the songs she usually sings as luxe’s cheri. because, if she thought of it too deeply, songs like these were more the color of luxe’s son naeun rather than luxe’s charismatic leader. these were far too emotional, scratching below the surface than luxe has yet to do. not that their catchy and upbeat feminine anthems weren’t her taste, but this -- this feeling she got as she sung these words, they felt raw, far more real to her.

a contrast to what she usually did for them. and she liked it -- the difference. because for naeun, this felt more her than any of the songs she had been singing recently. she could only wish to do it more. feels this emotion more as she continues to sing, eyes half-closed as the camera ran around her ; capturing her in the low lighting.  

and as the final note runs out and she realizes, two years later, maybe royal still doesn’t quite get her at all.

it’s a nice break from normality, naeun thinks.

weirdly enough -- her normal was filled with wardrobe fittings, table readings and filming sites. and for the first couple of weeks naeun had ever intention of disliking it. she hadn’t been in an ‘actor’-esque headspace in years and to suddenly be thrown into it like this was beyond her. ( especially after her audition that had only confirmed her doubts of her acting ability -- somehow, someway the chance had come and much like her money-hungry company, she had taken it for the ride )

so, when she mentions it to management in passing ( like she seems to do a lot these days ), she’s overjoyed when they give her the permission to do a cover of noel’s song on their company channel. it was a opportunity she had wanted very much.

because she, a vocal, doing anything but singing was aghast to herself. 

even her fans had figured the surprise and commented on her social media as of late the moment rumors had fled the entertainment chains. so, naeun does what she thinks is best -- to quiet their fears with a song. because songs always made everything better, right?

naeun doesn’t think too much of her song choice, noel has always been a group she admired ever since she had come to korea. her sister had introduced them to her, vouching that their vocal harmonies would breath life into her ‘shallow’ world. and that much was true. the harmonic fluidity of the balladeers was commendable.

and while a younger, less mature naeun would have feared ruining the song ; she had grown from her vocal insecurities. after fights of years of waiting, she could do what she loved and do so happily ( even if her company wanted to try to steer her into a completely different direction ) ; naeun hoped that she’ll be able to still find the right path to what she solely believed she was destined to do.

she had rehearsed the song several times, accompanied by coach teo and coach choi on numerous occasions to fix any vocal mishaps that happened -- especially when she got too excited ( or ambitious ) with her runs -- but the day the recording comes is casual. opting out of the fancy sets, she comes to the recording studio in the bare minimum. ( still adequately dolled up in a ‘no-makeup-but-makeup’ fashion as deemed by their salon ) 

all she had to do was put the headphones on and sing.

oooooooffff -- it’s truly an end of an era. after a long deliberation, i’ve decided to change my precious lee jihyun ( qri )’s fc to miss lee seungah ( mijoo ). it’s been a long time coming since i’ve noticed miss qri depart further and further from the idol life and into her own sphere of insta#influencer and since qri was already a heavily underrated idol, with limited resources, it literally ceased to exist once t-ara stopped promotions and kind of went their solo ways. ( who really knows if they’ll come back as 6ara or 4ara lbr ) so, in the end, i’ve decided to change fcs to someone much more relevant to the kpop scene, with an adequate amount of resources and who i can see fit well into what once was jihyun’s shoes. please love her as much as you loved jihyun! below the cut are info that has changed / remained the same between the transition.

her name: from lee jihyun ⇢ lee seungah / mijoo. the story i will use for the difference in names is that her grandmother kang wanted her to be named seungah, so that was what was put onto her birth certificate but her mother always wanted her to be named mijoo to offset her sister’s name, jooyeon, and her own: miyeon. so, as she grew up she became accustomed to being called mijoo, despite legally her name being: seungah.

the most drastic change is her height: as jihyun was a smol girl at 162cm ( 5′2″ / 5′3″ ), she’s become more average height at 165cm ( so, 5′4″ / 5′5″ depending on which cm to ft converter you use ).
