Does Rhaella bully Maegelle? I imagine Mae's meekness annoys Rhae and at some point Saera steps in all big sister boss like and tells her to knock it off...there can only be one Queen in this family! 👑

idk if bullying is the right word cuz rhaella doesn’t seek out to mess with maegelle but rhaella is not nice to her twin. she finds her meek and pathetic — a complete opposite of her own adventurous, over confident personality. since they are identical, rhaella ends up getting maegelle into trouble because boys mistake her for rhaella. rhaella can be very mean to her sister and maegelle is a very avoidant girl so they just get along like oil and water. saera definitely tells rhaella off but nothing sticks until saera sets her dragon onto her sister lol

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

i admire her a great deal for having the courage to face all the scrutiny and deal with the pressure of being a female named heir. she unashamedly adores her children and places the realm before herself. she doesn't want war, really above all i think she just wants her father's approval 😿 idk she deserved to live a happy life eating cake with laena and alicent and all the girls

i almost do wish she admitted to the boys being harwin's children because viserys surely would've legitimized them?? which i think could've solved some problems? but equally would've created a few new ones in their stead so im not sure 😭 idk shes a woman living in a medieval time she did what she had to do!!!!

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

she deserves a fairytale, something happy. and since it's my favorite, i'll say tangled??

imagining this with her kids 😿😿

feeling pressure to please everyone 💔 also the way she was rather snarky and bold as a teenager but mellowed out as she got older and matured

i love imagining rhae having a daughter and getting to spoil her with pretty baby clothes.... i think that's something she would've loved

still so unfamiliar with fashion but literally anything where she gets to wear pretty dresses all the time — she's the realm's delight after all!!!! give her all the jewelry and clothes she desires 😿

probably her and laena?? but that's mostly from fire and blood because the show really diminishes laena's role pretty heavily!!

show-specific rhaenicent! i hate it from a book perspective but i think from the show perspective, i definitely understand the shipping potential even if i don't personally engage with it!

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

her kids!!!! such a good momma and you can tell by the way they respect her 😿😿 she's so affectionate for them and rhae's reaction to finding out about luke was one of my favorite scenes in the entire show — perfection!

19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?

her relationship with rhaenys is kinda weird in the show. like i cannot tell if rhaenys likes her or not? i feel like it wasn't like that in f&b but i have to reread — and maybe s2 will change things?

LAENA!!!! they'd be so sweet together 😿 and they were very close i just adore them

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

i havent written much for hotd/f&b and haven't written rhaenyra (though i have thought about it!!!!) but i think it would be neat to explore her inner thoughts. you can see a lot of pressure coming onto her from many sides and i think exploring her psyche would be interesting! 🫶

have always been obsessed with rhae in this still from her wedding (mostly because im obsessed with emma's nose 🥴🩷🫶. they're so pretty). one thing about rhae, she'll look wonderful at her wedding (even if the wedding itself sucks)

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

i mean really she reminds me of her descendant daenerys!! 😿 a queen in her own right — facing challenges for her sex but still fighting. i think they would be equally proud of each other. rhae would really admire dany for what she's done.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

have always loved her, ever since reading f&b!!! i support rhae's rights and her (non-existent) wrongs 🫶👑🩷 long live the queen!!!

naturally biased because TEAM BLACK!! 🐉🖤 but i do think yes. her father named her heir, and as the king that should've been enough!! fuck precedence — it should've been rhaenys at the great council but they could've rectified that error with rhaenyra. her father's oath never wavered and he always wanted her to succeed him. jaehaerys i u disappointed me so hard....

To anyone else it would be a nice present, but Rhaenyra knows all about the seashell hunting. She knows how much Rhaela loved the twins, which is why she feels fear. This shows that it wasn’t about bastardry to her, but instead the disrespect shown towards Rhaela's family.

Rhaela knew Daemon killed her only friend so he could remarry. He then went and sunk his claws into her darling niece, using her for her benefits before taking her far away from their family. Laena had died away from the women that had raised her, loved her and would have added needed support during her pregnancy/birthing. It was hard to not see how Rhaenyra eyes chased after Daemon as they held the funeral for his wife and Rhaenys even suspected they hooked up after. They spit in the Velaryons face even more when they wedded so quickly after the twins died, going as far as making Laena's daughters watch without caring how they'd feel.

Rhaenys confided in Rhaela that Rhaenyra suggested wedding the twins to her children. Rhaela was pissed to hear how Rhaenyra was trying to use their family to strengthen her own claim. It's preposterous that Rhaenyra would offer the Velaryons own ancestral home to Rhaena through marriage, as if she doesn't belong to it by blood. And to dangle being queen in front of their face while her own claim is so unstable makes Rhaela scoff. Her and Rhaenys go back and forth about it, both disliking the idea a lot.

Corlys may say history remembers names, but it's the blood attached to them that holds all the power. And if history truly remembered names, why are houses and names extinct while their blood still flows in remembrance? Why is one taught to honor their blood and ancestors, if their name is all that matters? — 👑💀

9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

I wouldn't say anything too drastic! There's definitely been alternate versions of some scenes- for example, Rhae and Aegon almost found out about their respective betrothals through eavesdropping! In Chapter 7, we learn that Rhae and Aegon have been searching for more passages throughout the castle, and Rhae makes mention of finding several that don't go anywhere, but do provide a convenient place for spying. In an alternate version of Ch. 8/9, Rhae and Aegon unwittingly stumble upon Alicent discussing her plans with Criston as she writes a letter to Otto! This got cut in favor of the scene we got- a follow-up to Rhae's conversation with Alicent in Ch. 3 and some nice bonding between the two of them. I prefer this for a few reasons- keeping Aegon in the dark about Rhae's betrothal, as well keeping Rhae's view of Alicent in relatively high regard. Alicent is a schemer, however unhappy she might be with that, and it's important that Rhae continues to view her favorably. The information still comes out, but in the version I went with, Alicent is able to control the narrative... And I've still got "secret eavesdropping rooms" in my toolbox for later!

13. What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn't listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

I mostly listen to ambiance when I'm actually writing, I find anything with lyrics to be a bit too distracting. BUT I do have some songs that I associate with specific characters/relationships and plot beats. Some slight spoilers (they feel like somewhat obvious progressions, but we are still mid-arc for some of these developments so beware!), but here's a few!

I've shared this one before, but this is my current Rhae/ Aegon anthem! It's got a good amount of "hurt" and themes of desperately holding on to something that is ending for fear of being all alone.

Most of my Aemond songs are Linkin Park, but if I had to narrow it down to one for Rhae/ Aemond, I'd choose this! For the themes of looking up to each other/ the admiration they hold for one another, but also the insecurity that will develop from their relationship ultimately being started and built on the rubble of Rhae/Aegon's relationship.

And I'll round it out with a Helaena/ Rhae song, which is a lot less depressing! This song always makes me think of the friendship they've formed. No politics and no ulterior motives- just two girls finding comfort in knowing that they'd always choose time together over anything else, cherishing the simplicity of learning and loving and playing with bugs.
