He knew from personal experience, having broken his ankle back in college, that elevating injuries like this was important. He didn't want to overdo it with Zeke, but he couldn't help but worry.

Ooh can we hear about the band au for the Unordinary ask game?

oh yes this is one of my favorites!

Band AU

Okay so for this one I actually have stuff written down for it already. Copy/pasted from my notes is their roles in the band:

Arlo: Manager and synth player

Blyke: Drummer

Isen: songwriter, PR guy, and assorted behind-the-scenes tasks

John: backup singer & bassist 

Remi: electric guitar player

Seraphina: Lead singer

Arlo as the manager mostly because I can’t see him not taking the leadership role, and synth player because my brother and I thought piano fit his vibes but we swapped it when we decided it was a rock band. Isen’s behind the scenes because I imagine him staying out of the spotlight. John is on bass mostly because bass strings are really hard to break, and therefore really dramatic to have him break one in the heat of whatever dramatic climax moment there is.

I also wrote a little mock ao3 summary for the au:

Rei’s band was selected to participate in an upscale, annual music event, with a chance to win a lot of money. It’s a tournament style competition for which they have a year to prepare X amount of songs. Not only do they have the chance to win money, but it’s an incredible opportunity to get their names out there, and winning could even make their whole career. Unfortunately, Rei dies before the competition, leaving the rest of the band grief-stricken. Arlo steps up as the manager, and Remi as the singer.

“I can’t do it,” said Remi.

“What?” Arlo asked.

“I’m telling you while there’s still time. I can’t sing and play at the same time with out screwing up one or the other. We have to find another singer.”

Or: Seraphina and John audition for a band.

I also wrote out the start of a plot outline but it’s in word vomit format so I’m not posting it like that. Something that definitely happens though is that Zeke and his cronies are also competing, and they play dirty and try to sabotage our main characters. Also they definitely play a tribute song for Rei.

This one is… probably the most developed au I have? Ive got a vague plot, even. Really this only exists because I thought their abilities could make really cool effects for a concert.

If things didn’t go wrong (Part One)

This is will be a AU idea dump about if Arlo wasn’t a total dumbass and didn’t jump John. Also it may just end up being Arlo x John fluff idk.

So Arlo and John are getting along “swell.” Arlo is setting up John to snap (cause he’s stupid and that’s the only thing he knows how to do) while John genuinely thinks Arlo’s being nice/tsun.

Instead of being a dumbass, Arlo actually listens to Isen’s warnings (a little). He does some investigating himself, only learning that he was expelled from his old school for “excessive violence.”

Meanwhile, the two are hanging out a bit more than in canon. They talk on the roof (well it’s more like John following Arlo around) and Remi takes note of Arlo hanging out with cripple. Arlo plays it off (he doesn’t actually care about him. No way) until he sees Zeke doing what Zeke does best. Arlo gets angry when he sees Zeke bullying John (it’s John he’s angry at right?) John thanks Arlo and Arlo final feels something inside his heart.

Finally Arlo decides its time to confront John. However, instead of bringing Ventus and Meili, he just decides to talk to John himself. They go on their “errand” and Arlo takes him to an empty Turf War field. He traps the both of them in a barrier to talk. At first, John blows all of it off and Arlo starts to shrink it causing John to panic. Eventually Arlo grabs John and he uses his ability to push Arlo back.

The two have a small fight, both getting messed up. Eventually they both just stop and lay down, thinking over there situation. Eventually Arlo talks to him first and the two begin a conversation

Arlo: Honestly, I thought I’d be stronger than you.

John: I guess you thought wrong dumbass. Why the fuck would you even do this?

Arlo: Curiosity I guess? I’m not really sure exactly. You just seem fun to mess with.

John: And you seem fun to fuck up, but you didn’t see me do anything.

Arlo: I guess not, that’s why you’re better than me. Only a little though

John: *chuckles* God, you’re such an asshole

Arlo: You too

Their relationship isn’t quite mended. John thinks Arlo is an asshole and Arlo thinks John is disrupting their hierarchy. John goes home and reunites Seraphina. Arlo got healed by Elaine, who Seraphina later calls to heal John. Elaine does so, figuring out John’s secret. With some threatening, Elaine keeps his secret.

Later on, Elaine asks Arlo about John, and he just blows it off

Arlo: If he doesn’t want to be apart of the hierarchy, then he doesn’t have to.

Elaine: You seem way to lenient with him. Why’s that?

Arlo: .....No reason.

The two don’t talk to each other for a while. Seraphina picks up that something happened between them, but she can’t get John or Arlo to tell her. The two encounter each other alone in the hallway and decide to talk for a bit.

Arlo: I guess I shouldn’t have done that

John: You fucking think?

Arlo: You don’t make apologizing easier y’know

John: What a half ass apology

Arlo: What a half ass look. Your hair and clothes are a mess

John: I wonder why?

Arlo: You’d look a lot better if you just tidied up

John: And why do you care so much?

Arlo: It’s just...not a good image for the school

Then it comes time for Seraphina to get jumped. When John sees her covered in blood, he reverts back to his old self for a bit. He calls Elaine, and she hangs up once she hears how angry he is. Then he calls Arlo, knowing he can bring Elaine to him. They head over to John’s house and see Seraphina passed out

Elaine: Oh my God! Seraphina! What happened?

John: That’s what I’d like to know!

Elaine: If you did anything to her I swear-

John: You think I caused this?!

Arlo: Both of you shut up and focus on healing her. We’ll sort out the story once she’s okay.

After healing her and getting the story straight, Arlo and Elaine decide to stay over for the night to watch over Sera with John.

John: Uuuh...I only have one room and I’m gonna use that for Sera. Where the hell will you two sleep?

Arlo: We can just take the couch

John: Are you sure? I can get you a air mattress-

Arlo: We’ll be fine. I don’t exactly feel comfortable acting like I live here

The random guys break in and Arlo and John chase them off. After being healed by Elaine, Arlo sends her to watch after Seraphina. That leaves the two of them to talk

Arlo: I’ve never seen you that angry

John: How dare they mess with her! What the fuck!

Arlo: Calm down. We stopped them and she’s okay. It’s better than having her taken right?

John: I guess...but still! Who would do this!

Arlo: I don’t know, but whoever it is, they’re clearly not someone to mess with.

John: Why do you care so much for her?

Arlo: She’s a royal, of course I would care.

John: So you only care about Royals huh? Was all that time with me as a cripple a lie

Arlo: ...Not really....ugh! Just shut up for a minute!

When day comes, they bring Seraphina to Dr. Darren. Arlo talks to the principal and he decides to move John from his home to the dorms. John objects and gets into an argument. In the heat of the moment, he states he’ll live wherever Arlo is. So now the two of them are living together (much to each other’s dismay)

Episode 124

It confuses me why everyone is searching the school, expecting Seraphina to be there. She’s missing. You really think that she would just be wandering around a hall and just none of you have seen her? Makes no sense.

Also Arlo saying, “We don’t want to attract too much attention and risk alerting the culprit,” made me go -_-. It’s everyone Arlo. Everyone’s the culprit. It also doesn’t make sense to me why he says to update regularly so they won’t bump into each other. Is that really and issue, is there something I’m not getting. It doesn’t really matter anyway, moving on.

I was really excited when John stopped to talk to Doc, but then it ended really quickly… Oooh I just thought of this. John asked him where Seraphina was. Maybe Darren could alert Leilah that her sister is missing? That would be cool and we could finally meet the woman, but I don’t think it’s likely. Does Darren even know that Seraphina and Leilah are sisters?

I was kind of disappointed that a low-tier didn’t tell John what was going on. It wasn’t like it was likely as John is very publically Sera’s friend, but maybe a younger kid might tell him thinking him another low-tier and therefore game for what’s happening. It was almost impossible, but that’s what I was looking for all episode. But I mean, the green haired guy seemed surprised that John was still Seraphina’s friend, seeing as she lost her power.

Everyone has been comparing John to a leech recently oof

Also, Who was that guy that kicked John off the roof. He lets us believe he’s a high-tier, saying, “The last thing a high-ranker would wanna see up here is your stupid face!” Have we met him?? Maybe he changed his hair?? Maybe he tried styling his hair after John’s???? (it looks the same as his old helmet hair; oof)

I feel John’s big fight in the hallway was put there to stress how alone he was, and I’m no english teacher but the symbolism was evident. In the middle of a crowd, not one person sided with him, no one ever had. Seraphina was the only one who did, excluding Claire of course. Without Seraphina, he’s being thrown into this world of the undesirable again, like before he became Seraphina’s friend and when Arlo was trying to look into him. Neither time turned out well. We see a similar situation again. He always pulled through before, but maybe this time, he can’t. Arlo’s already said that John had to prove he could do something and not let others do his dirty work (a problem of John’s since before the beginning). The chances of John coming out on top again are slim, realistically (this is a story, it’s not always realistic).

The fight in the hallway reminded me of another thing. The big showdown at New Bostin. Again, he’s facing off against his classmates who hate him and he is without a friend. But John’s current situation is a little different as this time he is not hated for his tyranny, but for his choice of friends, which is quite ironic. He is Claire in this situation. He is the friend of the most powerful kid in school, he is the one protecting her. Their one difference is that John is loyal, which is, as I’ve stated before, one of his best qualities. I would love to talk about John x  Claire more, but I’m going to make it another post.

Now to the dramatic monologue:

    This monologue thing has conflicted people with their opinion on John. People who hated him have started to like him maybe idk wat’s going on.

    I only know that my faith in John has begun to be restored.

        I am a former John stan.

    I loved his character, his background, his interactions. I loved how his presence impacted everyone and everything around him. Even when he had beat up Zeke and Juni, i was completely unfazed. (Most people disagreed).

    I only recently fell out of love with John Doe when he acted as a arrogant, pompous ass to Arlo (who we also love). After their showdown, John looked down upon Arlo and time after time, called upon him for help. Expecting it. What really gets me is that Arlo is already fed up with this schtick. It worked in the beginning, but Arlo knows that John can’t control him. John knows this too, but doesn’t change tactics. He doesn’t try to apologize for anything. Just continues threatening Elaine (it still works on her to be fair) and bossing around Arlo. Remember how I talked about loyalty being on of John’s best traits earlier?? Well, his self-centered attitude is his absolute worst. The only moments when he wasn’t showing it was when he was pretending to be a cripple, but even then, we all knew he thought it. That was the one thing I couldn’t stand about John.

BACK TO THE MONOLOGUE (wow I get off topic). John is suffering an existential crisis again. He’s wondering if it’s even worth it, hiding his ability. Is it worth putting up with the bullying and the uselessness. Because of the person he pretends to be, he cannot help Sera. Because he claimed cripple, he’s virtually becoming one.

    Now onto the “is it really worth it?” John is definitely thinking over that one, but so should we. If you were in his situation, what would you do. Would you expose yourself to save yourself and prove your worth, risking your friendships and losing people’s trust. Or do you keep your facade, hoping that you can somehow save your friend or that Arlo will fix it, despite him refusing to help John. It’s a hard choice. (and one i’m not gonna answer because laziness also i have no goddamn idea)

    At the end of the chapter, we see John activate his abiltiy. He’s chosen guys. :o

UnOrdinary Chapter 178 Review

-First off, let me get this out *inhales* BAAAAABBYYYYY ARLO *crying*

-And now I also have another reason to cry, and that’s cause Arlo’s aunt is Vulcan. This is going to hurt, badly. You can tell he really looks up to his aunt, because of her power, her protection of others, and maybe even reasons we haven’t seen yet (I might make an Arlo background speculative post). Yet, if she is Vulcan she’s the very bad guy she talks about stopping. Helping drug trades, corruption, and even murder.

-However the biggest thing is what happens to Rei and Remi. I’ve repeated this topic so much, but I really want to say it again. Remi and Rei mean so much to Arlo. Rei was his mentor and someone he really respected. Remi is an equal he can talk too, and someone he cares deeply for. He’ll even accept being hated by her if it means she’s safe. So for him to eventually figure out that it was Vulcan who murdered Rei, and almost Remi, he might just break.

-With how things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if Arlo ended having a more tragic backstory or current story than John. Dude has a lot to find out, and none of it’s good.

-I never knew I wanted this before now. Also big props to Evie really. She’s been harassed nonstop by these Jokers but she’ll still go out of her way to help.

-Also Remi x Evie is the new best ship. I’m gonna call it Flashlight for now.

-Dr Darren confirmed only adult with brain cells in this school. I’m still holding onto the theory Vaughn is a scientist setting up an experiment

-The start of a beautiful friendship (hopefully future relationship)

-THEY HAVE EACH OTHERS CONTACTS AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

-You can tell that the low tiers (at least the nonjaded ones) really do respect and care for the high tiers. Remi’s especially is someone a lot of people like (even Zeke does what she wants). Also, can we get Evie tearing apart John now? Maybe not yelling, but telling him about the bullshit he’s done to the Royals and Sera, and how much he’s hurt the other students.

Episode 123

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I’m really happy with this episode, so much drama ;)

Chronological of course:

1. Elaine is looking fresh af in that skirt yessssss queen. But she also says, “Gosh, Who’d knock so early?” So I don’t know why she would be dressed up so early on a school day.

2. When John was talking to Elaine in the morning his speech bubbles were white for some of it. I don’t know if that’s normal when he’s acting all bossy and threatening, but yeah.

3. Elaine always looks so weird after John talks to her. It’s like when someone yells, “Act normal,” and everyone tries to form a natural pose and has a strained smile. That’s the energy Elaine gives off to me.

4. Holden was shipping Elaine and Arlo in the background if you noticed.

5. I only noticed this episode what. ARLO’S EARS ARE PIERCED WHAT.

6. I think John might’ve actually stopped being my favorite character recently (shocker I know). I know people have hated him before when he was beating up Zeke and Juni, but that’s not what got to me. I’m pretty numb to violence at this point. Mostly I think I kind of dislike him now because of his arrogant and threatening persona. Like this episode when he went to Elaine and Arlo. He was a condescending prick and I’m not here for that. That attitude has stopped John from getting things from Arlo before, so he should be smarter than to try to gain Arlo’s help by being all mean and scary and stuff. It might work on Elaine, but it sure as hell doesn’t work on Arlo.

7. I appreciated the obvious height difference in this episode thank you Uru-chan <3.

8. Yeaaah more Isen action!! Maybe finally some Isen x Elaine moments. One of my only ships for this comic. I’ve missed him.

    I’ve also missed Ventus and Meili. They haven’t really been involved in anything for a while. I think it’s fair to assume that they are the ones that Arlo called to help in with the search.

    I haven’t thought about these two for a while, but I just realized. They know about John’s power. They could’ve told someone as nothing is stopping them. Everyone has just been ignoring them, even John. They don’t know about the whole, “If you say anything, I’ll dethrone you,” business. With their knowledge, it would be the best decision to tell someone. So maybe they did.

9. Near the end of this week’s episode, Arlo says, “Despite all her foolishness, Seraphina is still one of us.”  Is that really how the high-tiers think of themselves? As a group? as a team?? He wouldn’t say that about Juni.

          This is similar to what I talked about last week, with the whole low-tiers are right thing. If this is how the king, the representative of their school, thinks, how can they feel anything put looked down upon and scorn. Arlo wants to save Seraphina because she’s a high-tier. He even says,” Despite her foolishness-.” There’s no other reason to why he wants to save Seraphina and that just gives the lower-tiers a stronger case. I’m honestly not on anyone’s side anymore.
