“Witness to a city that never sleeps,” she gestured to the cacophonous length of Taft Avenue behind the frosted windows blurred by rain, the street still bright and thick with traffic even at eleven in the evening. “Where sins are made then buried, doesn't matter how deep or hidden,” a sigh breaks into a soft giggle over the brim of her San Mig Light, “It's always, always there.”

“if you’re looking for old stuff then you’re in the right place. i don’t officially catalogue but i can tell you where to find stuff if you tell me what you’re looking for.” notice that there was a deliberate emphasis on stuff as she consciously prevents herself to say shit and showcase her not-so-spectacular customer service. but she maintained a bright smile, which was genuine because she already felt at ease once the girl walked in - reminding her of the diwatas up the mountains, carrying this little ethereal forest vibe around them.

“if you’ve come here for him - you’ve only wasted your journey.” her alliance with the Tikbalang was one forged for centuries. and it breaks her heart not to have the reassurance that he still existed, being the last Tikbalang standing. elijah could have tapped into her dreams by now - and even through scrying, the Manggagaway found it strangely difficult to search for the man who helped her build the resistance all those years ago. “perhaps you must consider that he does not want to be found.” nonetheless, the Wereleopard was an ally - and had fought alongside them for years. “but you’re very welcome to extend your stay.”

for a moment she was nearly convinced that she prayed HARD enough for deliverance - that her indulgencia finally paid off and she was bestowed the gift of apparition to cleanse her sins. almost believed the figure standing before her was the saviour’s mother herself, and yet despite her past long buried with the ashes of what used to be the thriving town of hamtik and her memories frayed by constant attempts of brainwashing, the manggagaway still had the steadfastness to hold on to ancient truth.
her lips curled, a soft snicker spilled out of her lips. “diyan......masalanta.” slow, scraping, like fingernails on wood. “somehow, i knew you’d come.” she added cheerfully, gaze barely lifting to face the (nearly) forgotten goddess. “you had me waiting for a very, very long time.”

“you’re on facebook?” her brows furrowed in inquiry. for the short time they’d been bouncing lines off each other, layre thought barry was one of those who only acted for the love of it - not for the fame. the good bunch - her kind of bunch. and so she was genuinely surprised that he’d been on social media. and facebook of all platforms. “is that a thing? should i be getting one?”

“stop trying to act like you’re not bleeding out in front of me!! this is serious!” (Stephen)
“you need to get a grip - i’m perfectly fine!” she’d been through worse. and she already knew that bleeding out wasn’t a way to shorten her life expectancy. “just - just get me something to stop it for now, i don’t wanna stain your carpet.” // @dakilain ft. stephen.

“Changing hues, the change of seasons will leave you no clues.” Sincerely, she spoke as if gathered from personal experience, “as desperation spreads within a broken soul, life just leaves you......feeling dead.”

“it’s good to be true if our hopes and dreams come true.” her soft sigh fogged over the brim of her glass before she tipped it over her mouth. her jaw clenched in response to the lambanog burning down her throat. “-wish that i’ve had more of this borrowed time....if only it would last a lifetime.”

note to self: never again will see stupidly go for a late afternoon jog with a freaking tikbalang. ever. words punctuated by pants, she called out to him, hands clasped on both knees, her hair embarrassingly escaping from the hold of her messy bun and now curtaining allover her flushed face.
it’ll do you good to exercise, he said. immortalily doesn’t make you FIT, he said.
“teka lang. sandali. hoy! psssst tumigil KA NGA -” she coughs out in a feeble attempt to steady her breath, one hand up to beckon him back. and if she squints she can just make out the silhouette of her supposed jogging partner, getting smaller and smaller by the second.
“HAY NAKU, LORENZO, BUMALIK KA NGA DITO.” he better dash back or he’ll find out how it’s like to match his horse-head with frog legs.

“i know it isn’t as impressive as you might think,” tentatively, layre gestured around the humble bungalow that desperately needed some refurbishment albeit had a promising amount of space for what she actually envisioned. “not yet anyway.” uncharacteristic coyness was written allover her features as she let astoria take in the quaint space she aimed to become a haven for magical creatures struggling to keep up with modernisation. “but it’s right in the heart of the sacred mountain - and who knows? we might be able to build an annex up in banahaw. i know it’s a shack, but it’s a start.”

OPEN TO ALL.
Into the bowels of the woods, a soft, eerie cry catapulted her back to consciousness. A gasp erupted from her throat and she coughed, waving off the wafting of what smelled like burnt flesh from her nostrils. She utilised the silence that followed by gathering her thoughts, anything that could have led her here in the middle of nowhere until another cry broke her musings.
With that, she wobbled up to her feet, this time on a mission to find the where that sound came from. The cries morphed into something clearer and her heart warmed at the sound. An infant, wrapped in a tattered blanket, left in the middle of the woods.
"Batang munti, why are you here? Where is your mother?” Her voice softened like a lullaby as she scooped the cooing little tot from the ground. She was still humming to soothe the infant when she felt it growl with its sharp teeth and claws dug on the paperthin skin of her neck. Trying to pry those deathly talons from her neck, she cried into the void, “HELP! Somebody help me!”

“There I was,” a sigh breaks into hesitation, for a second focusing on the thrum in her chest to revisit - to reevaluate her options, “thought I had everything figured out. Goes to show just how much I know ‘bout the way life plays out.”
