dad!shinmon x mom!reader | the twins
benimaru shinmon x reader
female reader
Tumblr media
When (Y/N) has to go to another city for a whole week because of work, Beni has to take care of the twins by himself.
no warning
Tumblr media
I gave the twins name so it would be easier to follow and understand but of course you can change them however you want !
all the characters are older, since the twins are 6, let's say they were born when shinmon was 22, his canon age
''But how am I supposed to take care of the twins and the town for a whole week ?'' Benimaru asked his wife, who had just told him she had to move for a whole week because of work. ''Beni, if you can handle a whole town being under attack and kill 6 infernals in the same day, you can take care of your girls. And Konro, Hina and Hika are here anyway, right ?'' She replied to reassure him. Meanwhile, the girls, who were 6, were very happy that they got to spend some time with their dad alone and in the 7th Company.
He was always busy, and even if he had time to spend with them, being with him all day long for a whole week would be very different for them. ''Remember that if you ever get one something, the other has too, okay ?'' The woman reminded her husband. ''Of course, they're twins.'' He replied. But (Y/N) arched an eyebrow. ''I'm reminding you cause last time you found a bunny figure to give Lucy, and Lana didn't get anything. She thought you had a favorite !'' She said. ''Oh, yeah. Yeah, I'm sorry. I won't do it again.'' He replied, still busy writing a paper. The woman rolled her eyes ; she was going to tell everything the twins needed to Konro as well.
The girls kissed their mom's cheek as she was waving at them. She had a suitcase with her, and Benimaru was waiting for his turn to tell his goodbyes. Once the twins ran away, he hugged (Y/N), breathing her perfume. ''Take care, okay ?'' He told her. ''Don't worry. But you, take care of the twins !'' She replied, giggling. Actually, that made the man chuckle, rolling his eyes playfully. ''In 6 years, I've learnt how to do that.'' He said. She snorted and kissed him, before jumping in the car that was waiting for her. Luckily, two of her colleagues were going with her, and they were great friends ; which reassured the brunette.
He turned to check on his girls ; they had run away and were already out of sight. Sure, they had inherited his hair color and Lana had his eyes color as well. But they had inherited (Y/N)'s personality so much. He sighed, already calling their names. ''Lucy ! Lana !'' He thought he had had enough with Hina and Hika for all those years, until he got twins himself. However, since Lucy had (e/c) eyes and Lana had pink ones, it was easier to recognize them. Cause still, they wanted to have the exact same hair and hairstyle, for some reason.
Maybe they will want to be different once they will be older. But right now, they were 6 years old, acting like trouble children and hiding somewhere in the house -or maybe they had run to the firehouse, it was just behind the house, after all. ''Girls, where are you already ? I'm a tired man, don't make me run all over the house !'' He said, calling them. ''We know you can run ! You run fast when you fight infernals !'' He heard a voice from behind him. ''Lucy ? Lucy, tell me where you are.'' He said.
''We want pancakes, and we want them now !'' Lana said, using a villain voice. ''Are you kidding ? Mom's been gone for 4 minutes and you're already missing with me and giving me orders !'' Benimaru said, restraining a laughter ; he knew that if he showed he found it funny, they would absolutely never calm down. ''Come on girls, if you behave, we'll go to that candy shop at the frontier of Asakusa.'' He heard a gasp, which made him bite his lip not to laugh. He was sure they noticed him smile, though. ''Demolishing King of Asakusa, you got us agreeing.'' Lana said, standing up in front of her dad, Lucy following.
Benimaru crouched down to be at their level. '''Dad' would’ve been better and shorter.'' He started, tipping Lana's nose at the name she had called him by. ''But that's nice of you, girls.'' He said. After that, they spent the whole day at the firehouse, and as he had promised, Benimaru went to the candy shop with them -they came back with way too many candies, but it was a dad and girls week, they could have some more things as usual.
It had been a tiring week for Benimaru, as the twins were always getting off of hand and hiding anywhere they could. They wanted to enjoy those moments with their dad the best they could, ending up with them sitting on both his shoulders like Hina and Hika used to do -they actually taught them how to do that, and even if the brunette was happy his daughters were friends with the twins, he sighed thinking they would never leave his shoulders alone.
''Girls. You know that mom comes back tonight. That's why I wanted to spend the day making her a surprise.'' He said, the twins gasping and getting excited at the thought. ''What could we do ?'' Lana asked. ''A cake ! You know how to bake cakes dad, right ?'' Lucy asked. He didn't know much, but he could look for a recipe. He only nodded, smiling when his daughters cheered. ''Which taste ?'' He asked. ''Vanilla ?'' Lana asked. ''No, dummy ! Mom prefers strawberry !'' Lucy said.
''Don't fight. We won’t have everything to bake a vanilla or a strawberry cake. But we do have everything to make a chocolate one. You both love chocolate so much, so of course we have some.'' Benimaru said, whilst taking all the ingredients they needed and putting them on the table. ''We wash our hands...'' he said while doing it, his daughters mirroring his action, ''... and we tie our hair.'' and once again, he did, his daughters mimicking him. ''You did a man bun.'' One twin said. ''Yeah ?'' Their dad replied, confused. ''Keep it on, mom told us she loved it.'' The other twin added. The brunette giggled and agreed to keep it on.
As they were baking the cake, the girls thought of questions they didn't really think of before. But now that their mom was out of town because of her job, they had some curiosity about it. ''Mom isn't a firefighter, right ?'' Lucy asked, her dad shaking his head. ''Why ?'', ''She doesn't have any power.'' He explained. ''How did you meet her, then ?'' Lana asked. ''You do remember when she said your granddad turned into an infernal, right ?'' The two little girls realized, humming. ''Ooooh, so you saved her !'' Lucy said, her dad nodding. ''So mom was like happy that grandpa died ?'' Lana asked, making Benimaru burst into laughter.
''Honey, don't say it like that ! She wasn't happy grandpa died ! But she was comforted that I was there, though. Oh my God, 'she was happy grandpa died' you said !'' He kept laughing, his twins laughing with him. When the cake was done, the girls decided to take a quick nap on the couch, until their mom was back. However, Lucy woke up to go to the toilets and ended up sleeping hugging her dad. Benimaru was texting Konro, asking if everything was alright at the firehouse, when he heard the door open. He laid his daughter back on the couch, greeting (Y/N). Of course, the noise woke the young girls up.
''Mom, we have a surprise for you !'' One said. ''It's in the kitchen ! See ! See !'' The other added, making their mom giggle, following them. Benimaru took the cake off the oven, putting in the table. His hair was still tied in a bun, and he had put gloves on not to burn himself. ''So hot.'' (Y/N) whispered, the man widening his eyes at her remark. But the girls didn't understand what she was talking about. ''Yes, the cake is hot !'', ''We'll have to wait a bit before eating it !'' They said. It made their dad laugh.
''Yes girls, we'll eat it after dinner tonight. It's our dessert.'' He said. The girls ran to the living room to watch TV after their mom thanked them for their surprise. ''Thank you too, sir.'' She told Benimaru, chuckling. ''They really inherited your personality.'' He commented. But he didn't care. They were his perfect little girls, no matter what.

Imaginary Friends
Imaginary Friends
School was out for Geistville Elementary. As students hurried to the bus or for their parents’ cars, one student was left to wait in the playground as he always did.
Ken, honestly didn’t mind waiting to be picked up from school. It was extra play time as far as he was concerned, getting the full run of the playground and not have to share the area with anyone…
Except for one person.
He had met her back when he still went to the preschool that was attached to the building. She was around his age and was always there waiting to play with someone. The other kids couldn't see her of course but Ken didn’t mind.
“Weeee! C’mon, Ayami, catch me!” Ken giggled, ducking under the jungle gym as his friend chased him, floating just off the ground.
Her laugh echoed around them, the glow around her body illuminating the area.
Ayami, didn’t dress like the other ghost kids Ken had seen over the years. She wore a set of black and white armor, with flower like designs and crystals embedded into it. Her hair was pure white and one of her eyes was a bright green color, contrasting to her other eye, which was a pale blue color.
“I’m gonna catch ya!” She phased through the jungle gym, floating upwards as Ken bounded across the top.
“Nya!”
She giggled before tackling him as the two children rolled across it, laughing up a storm, one having to catch his breath.
“That was fun! We haven’t rough housed in a while! It’s been too long!”
Ken sat up, grinning.
“Way too long.” He giggled, leaning back. “We gotta play more often.”
Ayami fiddled with her hands, unsure.
“I dunno… I’m not normal.”
“But you're my friend!” He insisted. “We never play except during school days and then during summer I never see you!”
“But…” She looked down. “Would your parents be okay with a ghost friend?”
That was the problem she was worried about. For a while, she looked and acted very much like a human child. Ayami had been deceased for a long time. Ken never asked her about what happened and she didn’t bring it up either.
It was an unspoken kind of rule. Don’t ask about the things that would make either of them upset.
Ken poked her forehead, getting her attention.
“My daddy was like me when he was little. I’m sure he’d be okay with it… and you’re a nice ghost. Pleeeaaase?” He gave her the puppy eyes.
Ayami squeaked, covering her own eyes.
“Kennny!!! That’s not fair!”
“Please? Please? Please?”
“Ooohhh bother…” She giggled, lowering her hands. He was still making the face. “Okay, okay!”
“Yippee!” Ken threw his arms around her. “You know where my house is? I can tell you where it is or you can sneak in and hide with me and my brothers!”
“I can find you easily.” She winked. “That’s the cool part of being a Ghost Guardian.”
“Right! Maybe I can meet more of your ghost friends too?” He tilted his head. “If you're okay with it.”
“Maybe. Oh! If you ever come to where I stay, you can meet Dree Dree! And Jackie and Aggie too!”
“Oooo… Yeah! Yeah!” Ken giggled, holding out his pinky finger. “It’s a promise!”
Ayami giggled, looping her finger with his.
“A secret promise!”
“A secret play date!”
oooooo
Around early evening, when the sun was still high in the sky, Ken had a knock at his window.
He looked up from his game system, grinning at who he saw. Ayami was floating just outside of his window, her white hair blowing in the wind.
“Is it a bad time?”
He pushed the window open, leaning out a little.
“You’re good! Wanna come in?”
“Hm…” She furrowed her brow, looking down to where she could see through the window to the rest of the Miyamoto family. “Not yet. Wanna come outside and play?”
“I can! Hikaru helped me with my homework!”
“Cool! I got done training early too.”
The two children laughed before Ken hurried to grab his coat, grabbing one of his toys too.
“Daddy?”
Eiji looked up, adjusting his reading glasses.
“Yeah, Kiddo?”
Ken smiled, giving him a bit of a puppy eyed look.
“It’s still daytime, can I go outside for awhile?”
Eiji hummed in thought, glancing outside. It would still be about two hours before night fell.
“Only an hour and a half. I want you back just before sunset, okay?”
“Okay, thanks!”
Ken hurried outside, meeting Ayami at the backdoor… This time, however, Okami was wary as she stared at the ghostly child.
“Um… Is she okay?”
“She’s a nice doggy, don’t worry. Okami, c’mon! You can sleep while we play.”
Okami huffed but followed after anyways, not wanting to let Ken out of her sight.
The children didn’t pay her much mind, since she kept up with their pace easily.
“I brought my bouncy ball. We can kick it around or something! See?” Ken pointed to the pale green designs around the black ball. “It glows in the dark!”
“Ooo, like me!” Ayami giggled.
“Yeah!” Ken moved back several paces, once he was sure they were a bit out of sight. “Ready?”
“Ahuh, ahuh!” Ayami got into position, bouncing in place.
Ken grinned before kicking the ball her way, the girl jumping into the air a bit to kick it back.
“Nice!”
He ran a bit further in before kicking it as hard as he could.
Ayami squeaked as it barreled right towards her, turning her body intangible as it flew right through where her stomach would’ve been.
“Eeek! Sorry!”
Ken ran up to her.
“You okay?”
“Yup!”
Both children looked to where the ball had gone. They couldn’t see it anymore, having lost sight of it in the brush.
“... Uh oh.” They murmured in unison.
“... I’ll go get it-”
“I’ll go with you!”
Okami whined, watching them leave. Her ears folded before walking after them.
Ayami phased in and out of the brush, looking for the ball, the leaves lighting up as her essence phased through them.
“Hm… Not here…”
Ken looked around, humming in thought. He peered down the hill, seeing a faint glow from the paint.
“Found it-”
His foot slipped, as he started to tumble down the hill. Ken yelped, bracing himself for a hard impact… only for Ayami to grab his jacket’s hood, pulling hard to keep him from doing just that.
“Oof!”
He sighed in relief as she set him down. Okami whined from the top of the hill, pacing back and forth.
“I’m okay, Okami, promise!” He turned to Ayami, smiling sheepishly. “Sorry.”
Ayami shook her head.
“Don’t. You okay?”
“Ahuh!”
Ayami smiled before floating off retrieving the ball.
“I got it!”
Ken smiled, bouncing in place a little. “Wanna play here?”
“Hm… I don’t think so. It’ll take a bit to get you home.” Ayami offered her hand to him. “Hold on tight.”
Ken blinked, doing so… squealing as she floated upwards for a moment, going higher than the boy thought possible, rising over the treetops.
The entire forest was revealed to them as Ken looked around in wonder.
“Wow…” He breathed. “This… Wow.”
“Not too much?” Ayami asked, smiling sheepishly. “Not scary?”
“No way!” Ken laughed. “We’re FLYING, Ayami! Really flying!”
She looked to the ball and back to Ken. “Wanna forget catch for a bit?”
“Yup!”
She dropped it before getting a better hold on Ken, keeping him close.
“Ready?”
Ken gave her a thumbs up.
Ayami grinned, her green eye glowing brighter before she flew off at a rapid speed, the children laughing up a storm the whole way.
Dipping up and down back through the tree branches as Ayami made them both intangible, even through the earth itself as they popped back up.
Ken squealed as they flew through a particularly large tree, spotting a family of owlets before they phased out of it and onto the next branch.
“THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER!”
“And this is what I get to do all the time!”
After a while of flying like this, Ayami came to a stop in a particularly large oak tree that looked over the property. The two sat next to one another on one of the thicker branches, gazing out at the view before them. Ayami was a little tired, leaning against the trunk of the tree, while Ken was still bouncing a bit excitedly.
“That was… Seriously, you can do all kinds of amazing things and…” Ken rubbed the back of his neck, going a little red. “And I’m just the kid who can see ghosts…”
“Aww Kenny…”  Ayami pouted a little. “But you can do a lot of really neat things too. You can see what others don’t… and you aren’t afraid of those things either.”
“Not true… I have lots of bad dreams about bad things that happen to people…” Ken rubbed his arm. “I see people too that wanna get my attention because they can’t get anyone else’s. Like my big brothers’ first mommy and daddy. They haunted me all the time until Daddy was able to save Hika.”
“And I kept ‘em away from you at school, remember?” Ayami squeezed his shoulder, prompting a small smile from Ken. “Kenny, you just gotta practice. You’re still little.”
“Yeah… I wanna be just like my daddy when I grow up. I just… get scared sometimes… but Daddy says that this stuff happened to him too when he was little… same for my Auntie Naomi.” Ken fidgeted with his hands a little. “And I don’t have as many bad dreams anymore. Sammy helps me sleep better with Dreamster’s help. We play a lot when things get scary so I can sleep again.” He smiled a little.
“What kind of dream stuff do you do?”
“Well…” Ken perked up. “Last night, I conjured up my oba-san’s house! It’s really, really huge!” Ken held out his arms as wide as they could go without causing him to lose balance. “And we played around the garden with her koi fish! The garden’s super, super big! It’s like a mini forest too!”
“Wow…” Ayami smiled. “And you did that.”
“Ahuh… and Okami helps me in my dreams too.”
“That’s cool!”
Ken smiled, looking down, seeing Okami at the base of the tree… giving him a disapproving look.
“Yup. She loves me a lot. And I love her.”
Ayami smiled, closing her eyes as she leaned her head back. “So, you’re not just the kid who sees ghosts. Your daddy wouldn’t have known what to look out for with your brothers if you hadn’t seen their parents first.”
“Yeah… I guess so, huh?” Ken fumbled with his hands, frowning a little. “I just… hope no one’s in really big trouble, because of my new nightmares.”
Ayami squeezed his hand, taking it into her own.
“If they are, then we’ll get them out of it.” She gave him a grin. “That’s the job of a Ghost Guardian, to help people!”
“And… Memoria Coven members, can create Remembereds… or get spirit companions of our own when we’re old enough.” Ken smiled, a hopeful look coming to his eyes. “I wanna be that cool too.”
“And I have no doubts.”
“Ayami…”
Ken hugged her tightly, startling her for a second before she returned the embrace, her glow brightening.
“Kenny...  I wanna help every step of the way. I promise.”
“And I know you will. It’s a promise… Okay?”
Ayami smiled, hugging him tighter.
“A secret promise.”
“A ghost promise!”
They giggled a little before Ayami helped him up, floating down to the ground.
Sunset was coming and they both knew Eiji and Carmen would NOT be pleased if Ken wasn’t home soon.
“Can we do this again tomorrow?” He asked as they hurried off for the house.
Ayami grabbed onto a tree branch, swinging down as she sprinted alongside him.
“We sure can! More playtime, lots more play time!”
“Yay!”

Don’t Leave Me
Note: Lang. I blame you for getting me on the Shinsō train. Because Shell Game 57 hurts. It really really hurts.
Fluff, ONWARDS. With the one song I never thought I’d be using again, since it was originally Kei and Tomoko’s song in my head. But, well, might as well let someone else into Tomoko’s darker side. :p And the lyrics for the other song piece mentioned here come from this site.
The connector and final nail in the “Another AU” pitfall Vy has fallen into! Everyone in UA and happy! Chronologically takes place after all my other Shinsō content.
Mentioning @langwrites, @wingbladeweaver1357, and @hylianhick here since your OCs are mentioned, and @chiefladylightyay since you enjoyed the first Shinsō stories. Also @fangoverdang since you liked the short stories that started all this and I’m glad we met up again. :) Oh, and @lovingempress? Here’s more fluff with Tomo for you~
Enjoy.
----------------------------------------
Before meeting Gekkō in UA, Shinsō thought he could go without friends. The path to becoming a Hero wasn’t easy, after all, and friends were just a bother back in General Studies. But these days, with a year in UA under his belt, he could never say that now.
Today too, was no different. He could’ve gone home early, but it was the first sign that stopped him.
Said first sign of anything interesting was the echo of music ringing through his ears. It took a second for him to realize it wasn’t coming from the school’s loudspeakers littered throughout the hallway ceilings. It sounded like it was a piano solo, but it wasn’t a song he recognized. Whether out of curiosity or boredom, Shinsō didn’t know, but he followed the sound of the music along, craning his neck a bit more in the hopes of finding the source.
Thankfully, it didn’t take too long. The sign hanging above the door designated the upcoming room as the “Music Room”, and considering the piano was louder…
Shinso put his hand on the door and quietly pulled it open.
He was not expecting to see Hoshino at a grand piano of all things.
With her eyes closed, she could’ve been a professional pianist with how her fingers flew across the keys. Her legs occasionally moved to press the pedals at the foot of the piano, and with the sound vibrating in the air, it created a scene he never really thought he’d see from her. Sure, Hoshino sang for him and Leonhart, and who knows how much else for Gekkō and Davy, but not play piano of all things while at school. There was no one else with her in the room, merely confirming his suspicion that the concert-level song was all her.
Just listening closer made the song stand out more. Like it was a declaration of war on something or someone. Or it was a declaration of protection and love towards one person.
Shinsō mentally decided he liked the second idea better. It was more fitting of Hoshino anyways.
Once the last key faded, Hoshino took a heaving breath. Her eyes opened too, although slow, and she blinked them. “Okay,” she muttered, and if not for Shinsō being in the same room as her, he knew he wouldn’t have heard her otherwise. “The song’s good. Now for the actual singing…”
Now was probably a better time than any to let her know he was there. Shinsō gently cleared his throat.
As expected, Hoshino jumped. The noise out of her mouth was something akin to an anime character, his best approximation of it being nothing but a loud “FWAH!” that made his eardrums curl in on themselves. Ow. If not for the volume, Shinsō probably would have agreed with Davy’s earlier declarations on how it was cute.
…Wait a second.
What?
Hoshino then swiveled her head around for some kind of answer before rounding on him, and her blue eyes widened. Pink proceeded to color her cheeks. “S-Shinsō-san! Um,” her gaze focused in on him, her voice lowering, “s-sorry about the voice. I-I wasn’t expecting you here.”
“I wasn’t expecting you here either, Hoshino,” he said coolly, hiding his previous thought by taking a look at the piano bench. Hoshino, petite as always, was only taking up half of the thing. Shinsō raised a finger to point at the empty space. “Think I could sit next to you?”
“Um,” Hoshino blinked, still blushing. “Sure? If you don’t mind me fidgeting.”
“It’s you, Hoshino. I never minded.” And he meant it. Hoshino merely blushed brighter. Shinsō shrugged but went with it anyway, swinging his legs under the piano keyboard while still facing her. “Besides. What were you doing here?”
Hoshino’s blush died down to a lighter pink as a realization of sorts shined in her blue eyes. “Oh, that?” She giggles, a bit embarrassed, before ducking her head and muttering the response. Shinsō already knew that if not for him sitting right next to her, he probably wouldn’t have heard it. “I was practicing a song for Kei.”
“For—” Shinsō couldn’t help but feel surprised. “For Gekkō?” Then again, it made sense. Gekkō and Hoshino were extremely close, more so than Hoshino was with Leonhart (in spite of Hoshino happily calling Leonhart “Hika-chan” of all things). Weren’t Gekkō and Hoshino childhood friends or something…? “What’s the occasion?”
Hoshino fidgeted with her fingers. “N-Nothing much, really. I just felt like it.” She rocked back and forth in her seat a bit, a fond smile on her lips. “Kei sometimes…” Hoshino paused, her gaze flickering between Shinsō’s hands and her lap. “She sometimes goes through things I’m not sure about,” Hoshino settled for quietly, reaching upwards to rub a bit of hair ribbon between her fingers. “We’ve known each other since we were little, but there are still times I know she doesn’t tell me everything. It’s just how she is. And I still can’t help but worry if she’s holding things back because it’s too dark and…” Hoshino paused. Her hand playing with her hair ribbon stopped too.
Shinsō inclined his head. “Hoshino?”
Hoshino jolted a bit in her seat before raising her head to give him a smile. Shinsō would be a fool if he didn’t see that it was obviously forced. “I-I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to ramble at you, Shinsō-san! I-I can stop, if you want.” She waves her hands in the air helplessly, and Shinsō aptly ducks his head so that she doesn’t actually hit him. “I… I just want to sing and tell her that she’s not alone. If that makes sense?”
Yep. It’s still the same selfless and sweet Hoshino. “Sure,” he says. “It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it.” Shinsō leans back on the bench, looking up towards the ceiling in the hopes of giving Hoshino some room. “Gekkō’s weird like that. Being silent. So I get it.”
Without turning to her, Shinsō already knew Hoshino was giving him a doe-eyed, wide look. Like she wasn’t expecting him to understand her. “…Really?” she said quietly.
Shinsō reaches over, and without thinking, lightly taps the top of Hoshino’s head with the back of his hand. “Really,” he finishes, just in time with her newest squeak of “Ah!” The smirk was hard to hide on his face when she rounded on him with a pout. At this point, he couldn’t help it and Hoshino was leaving herself too open for teasing. “You have weird choices in friends, Hoshino. And Gekkō’s the worst at it.”
“Muuuuuu,” she goes, clearly very unhappy while still puffing her cheeks. Hoshino crosses her arms and rocks herself hard enough in her seat on the bench to bump shoulders with him. “Kei’s fine, I’ve lived with her for more than a decade, and last I checked, I’m friends with you, aren’t I?”
Shinsō laughs. “You’re nuts, but you’re fine too. Being friends with a guy who’s villainized for his Quirk.”
Hoshino blinks, then goes quiet again. “…Oh,” she says finally, then proceeded to lean on his shoulder.
That was not expected. Shinsō does his best to not recoil, staring into her hair. “Hoshino?”
The reply is just as quiet as the words that started everything. “You’re a Hero to me, Shinsō-san.” Hoshino is twiddling her thumbs now and even if Shinsō can’t see her face, he can see the tips of her ears and they’re pink. “It doesn’t matter what people said about your Quirk before. They don’t know you. You’re in the Hero Department now and, last I checked, you proved them wrong by every single scale. Plus,” Hoshino waves a pointer finger in the air while lightly rocking against him, “you could’ve brainwashed me in the entire time we’ve talked, and you haven’t done that now, have you?”
“N-No,” he says, and it surprises him on how easy it is to talk honestly to Hoshino now. Like a veil was lifted off them both, and he can breathe. It’s hard to care about his face burning because hearing those words is just nice in general. Hell, he can smell rosemary, and it takes a second for Shinsō to realize it’s Hoshino’s hair. Her shampoo? “I never intend to Brainwash unless I want to.”
“And there we go.” Hoshino huffs in a way that seems final before raising her head to meet his eyes in eye contact, and she’s pouting again. “So, please, don’t say depressing things like that again. You sound like Kei.”
“Sorry,” is all he can say in response. “Reflex.”
Hoshino still puffs her cheeks, opting to hit her head against Shinsō’s shoulder. As much as it stings, well, technically a little since Aizawa-sensei punches harder, Shinsō waits for her to speak. “You dork,” Hoshino says finally after a moment, scooting over to fully lean on his side. “You’re my friend, so no more self-deprecation.” She paused, and then Shinsō hears her mutter, “And this is why my friends need more music. No one believes in themselves, and it’s depressing.” There’s another pause, and then she mutters, “I know I do it too, but I don’t like hearing it from other people, especially people I care about. Muuuuu.”
Shinsō scoffed and taps Hoshino’s head again. This girl was ridiculous. “You’re mumbling, Hoshino.”
This time, his underclassman doesn’t even flinch, merely giving him a dirty eye through her black hair before focusing back on the piano. “Don’t care,” she adds childishly. Shinsō doesn’t miss how her fingers linger over the black and white keys again. “I’m tempted to play something for you now.”
…Okay, out of all the things Hoshino could’ve said, Shinsō definitely was not expecting to hear that. Then again, this was Hoshino, the girl who made more homemade chocolate than her family could even provide for Valentine’s Day in their cafe when not swamped with work. He shouldn’t have been surprised. “I thought you were practicing for Gekkō,” he finds himself saying instead.
“That doesn’t mean my other friends miss out!” Hoshino’s voice goes up by about a level or two in pitch. “And you’re important to me too, Shinsō-san! You deserve something nice!” She pauses before pressing a key and adds, a bit miffed too this time, “You already heard me play something for Kei. So I might as well give you a preview of your birthday present.”
Shinsō can’t deny the fact that he’s blushing. Goddamn feelings. He turns his head away to break off their shared eye contact, but doesn’t push her away either. “I-I didn’t think you were looking that far ahead, Hoshino.”
Another bump into his shoulder. Along with an extra hard thunk of a head against the crook between his neck and shoulder, Shinsō blinks before glancing in that direction. Hoshino — Hoshino was actually snuggled up to him. What the—? “You’re someone I keep close to my heart, Shinsō-san,” was the whisper. “There’s no way I wouldn’t.” Before Shinsō could respond, she raises her head and he gets an eyeful of bright blue eyes. “And hey. You helped Kei and Jack-nii and Hika-chan a lot by being you. And,” Hoshino reaches up to lightly poke his forehead with a soft smile, “You helped me too. So you deserve something in return, don’t you think?”
Shinsō, for the first time in a long while, finds himself speechless. He stares at Hoshino for a second, then two, then for more until she fidgets and breaks off the eye contact. “U-Unless,” she stutters, “you want me to sing instead? I-I could do that! Or make cake, or, or…” Hoshino trails off, sitting back up and scooting away an inch.
“I-It’s fine,” he says finally, turning his head mechanically just to force himself to look at her. And, yep. Hoshino is blushing, even when not meeting his eyes. “A song preview is fine, Hoshino. Whatever you feel is right.”
Hoshino blinks, then sparkles. Too bright. Argh. “Piano and singing for you then!” she cheers, her voice high-pitched from the joy. “I hope you’ll like it, Shinsō-san!”
Ugh.
How was she this happy?
Lub-dub, lub-dub.
Better question.
His heart is beating hard. Is this how Davy felt when looking at Hoshino? Because this was new and Shinsō didn’t know if he liked it or not. The last time he felt like this, it was with Leonhart, and it was Leonhart. She wasn’t looking for relationships. So, why was his heart starting up again with freakin’ Hoshino?
If this is turning out to be what he thought it was becoming, Davy was going to murder him. Little sisters were off-limits, last he checked.
Double ugh.
Before Hoshino can turn back to the keys, Shinsō pulls her back to his side with an arm around her shoulders. She squeaks, he says, “You can use ‘-kun,’ Hoshino.”
“F-Fweh?” she squeaks again, more confused.
Shinsō sighs and taps Hoshino’s head with his other, not-hugging hand. “If you’re going to be putting on a concert for me after school, then you could at least call me by my name and not by some stiff honorific. Especially if I’m so ‘close’ to your heart as you say I am.” He doesn’t even know why his voice comes out irritated. Then again, he still doesn’t know what to make of Hoshino either. How does she say things the way she does and not die of diabetes?
Oh, right.
Her Quirk is literally making chocolate with a touch.
There’s no way she’d be dying of diabetes when she makes diabetes.
And Hoshino’s looking at him again. “Then… Shinsō-kun?”
“Yeah?”
“Just trying it,” she says, then leans into him a bit more. The next try has his ribs creak. “Hitoshi… kun?”
He tries not to jolt. “…Why are you going with my first name?”
“A-Again, just wanted to try!” Hoshino squirms in his hold, but doesn’t pull away, instead resting her fingertips atop the piano keys. Their closeness lets Shinsō feel her exhale. “A-Are you okay with that?”
Shinsō takes a breath too. “…Just play the song,” he settles for finally, bonking her head with his cheek. “And do what you want.”
“Th-Then,” Hoshino turns to look at him, blushing too. “Call me ‘Tomoko’ too, H-Hitoshi-kun. ‘Hoshino, Hoshino’ just makes things feel more formal.”
Sure, she stumbled in delivery, but she still said his first name.
Shinsō sighs and closes his eyes. If he looked into those blue eyes, he knew he might die. From embarrassment or something, and he had to stay cool. Somehow. “Alright then, Tomoko,” he says, even if he’s close to stumbling himself from how strange it sounds. “Hoshino” had stuck for far too long. First names, on the other hand, were going to be a new obstacle to overcome. “You win. Go play what you want now.”
He doesn’t need to see to know that Ho — Tomoko is sparkling. “Aye aye!” she says with what sounds like an extra salute, and he slumps as soon as her voice turns away from him. “One concert for a bestie, coming up!”
The piano echoes in his ears first in a new melody before he hears Tomoko start to sing, and by then, Shinsō’s tempted to fall asleep.
“Kimi o tsurete kakedasu yo (I brought you to run off with me)
Dare mo oitsukenai basho e; (To a place where nobody can reach;)

Mata koushite tonari doushi arukeru koto.  (We are still comrades, advancing together.)
Nandaka tottemo ureshikute hashaide shimau. (I don't know why, but I feel happy and in high spirits.)”
Maybe later, Shinsō could work up the courage to ask Tomoko to record her songs. That way, Aizawa-sensei wouldn’t be pissed when he eventually comes by to their daily training session.
For now, he’d enjoy this. It wasn’t everyday he could nap peacefully against a friend.
By the time the song was long finished, Shinsō could’ve sworn he saw Tomoko smile. “Sleep well, Hitoshi-kun. You deserve it, you beloved friend of mine.”
It was a good day.
----------------------------------------
“Where have you been?”
“…Around.”
“Shinsō.”
“Don’t worry about it, Sensei.”
“It’s not because you became buddy-buddy with someone outside your class, is it?”
“…”
“Do not tell me it’s Hoshino. We went through this with Leonhart and Gekkō already.”
“I have her songs recorded for you if the cats like it…?”
“Goddammit, Shinsō.”

Chocolate Seashell Ch 8 Preview
Because it’s a WIP and I see @icephysics95 / @hylianhick being active on Tumblr and, to put it bluntly, “I hope Senpai notices me!” Because it’s been months and my anxiety makes me swirl in place, thinking you don’t see these things.
For everyone else? I’ll just say I’ve had a long and meh-to-near-shitty past few days irl when it comes to work. So, fluff. Based on the first times I hugged Leo and the many times I wake up my dad from his naps.
Also, @wingbladeweaver1357 and @fangoverdang, here’s something for you two. Wing-chan, I know you’ve seen this a bit already, but you’ve helped me out in the last few days and I’m grateful.
An honorary mention to you too, @langwrites and @owlsofstarlight, because you two ground me.
Onto writing previews!
------------------------------------------------------------
Shinsō shoulders his school bag and walks over to the door, making sure not to bump Iida’s shoulder on the way to wait. Iida’s looking at him, wordlessly gaping and chopping his hands as usual, but Shinsō can’t really find it in himself to care. He’s a good class rep, but some things you just don’t question.
It doesn’t even take a second for blue eyes to peek out from around the hallway corner and then spot him.
A high-pitched “Hitoshi-kuuuuuuun!” echoes through the hallway and Shinsō hides a smirk. The blue hair ribbons are obvious even from a distance. The small petite figure closes in with the sound of shoes hitting the tile floors, and it’s obvious Hoshino is running. She looks out of breath, still carrying her own school bag, but she’s smiling at him and her blue eyes are still bright. “Hitoshi-kun!”
“Hey, Tomoko,” he says, and he doesn’t even hesitate to open his arms as soon as she’s a meter away. This was a routine at this point. Screw onlookers, they were going to figure it out sooner or later. Even if he would regret the possibility of Ashido and the other girls hounding him on this kind of thing. But wait. She’s running too fast. Oh no. “Wait a second, Tomoko, slow down—”
“Oh god,” Midoriya says faintly behind him.
Iida’s yelling frantically, saying a loud, “No running in the hallways, Hoshino-kun—”
“Taaaaaaaaah!” is the happy squeal-kind-of-noise leaving her lips and then Tomoko is jumping and barreling into Shinsō’s chest in a tackle hug. Yep. He was too late. Everyone was way too late. Shinsō holds back the urge to groan, squeezing her anyways while twirling on his feet to try working off the momentum. Tomoko’s giggling into his school blazer and cuddling him, and he’s tempted to blush if not for the aching in his ribs representative of all of Hoshino’s unintended force. “I found you, beloved friend! Hello!”
“Yes, yes, you did,” Shinsō mutters tiredly into her hair, and he breathes in the rosemary scent that is Hoshino before tapping the top of her head with the back of his free hand. Still soft. “Hello to you too. But do you have to tackle me every single time?”
Tomoko pulls back as if slapped, and there’s a kicked-puppy look in her blue eyes. “Uh,” she says, caught off-guard, “if you don’t like it, I can stop?”
Shinsō sighs and pets the top of her hair. “I didn’t say I didn’t like it, Hoshino. Just ease up on the running, okay? Davy would have a heart attack if something happened to you.”
He leaves out the thought of, I’d be worried too.
“It is also against school regulations to run in the hallways, Hoshino-kun!” Iida hotly interrupts, and Shinsō pretends to be invisible so Tomoko can notice him instead. “You may have a wonderful relationship with Shinsō-kun—”
“It wasn’t intentional—” Shinsō decides to add sarcastically.
Iida continues, unabated with his usual hand chops. “But you could risk danger to others around you!”
Still. The smile is back on Tomoko’s face as she nods, albeit sheepish in Iida’s direction, raising her hand to salute to Shinsō and him. The gesture merely signified her energy coming back in full swing. “Aye aye, Cap’n Shinsō, Lieutenant Iida!” she chirps. “Roger that!”
“L—” Iida’s thrown off guard. “Lieutenant? Not Class Rep?”
“I-I mean, Iida-san is Class 2-A’s Rep! I’m in 1-C!”
“Ohhhh,” Midoriya says quietly. “That explains things.”
Shinsō holds back an amused scoff just in time for Kei and Davy to approach. “Doofus. Be more observant.”
“Eh—”
“My baby sis!” Davy coos loudly, and Tomoko has no chance to react before he’s swooping her into his arms from behind, pressing his cheek into her hair and snuggling her. Shinsō actively backs up to give the adoptive siblings space. “This is where you ran off to!”
“N-Nii! Too tight, too tight!” Tomo’s cheeks flush a light red from the close proximity and the surprise, resulting in Kei chuckling as soon as she flanks Shinsō’s side, looking on with fondness in her black eyes. “K-Kei-chan, help!”
“Nope,” Kei says simply, wearing a not-so-nice smile. Wow. “I’ll stay with Hitoshi-kun over here, Tomo.” Without skipping a beat, she glances behind her to wave at the others. “Hi, Midoriya-san, Uraraka-chan, Iida-san, Hikari-chan.”
Leonhart lets out a laugh, getting up from her seat as soon as Midoriya is glancing between Davy and Tomoko in shock. “Hey, Kei! Ready for lunch?” The question was short, but it still was marked by how Iida looked caught between intervening and staring himself while Uraraka hummed, going along with the situation.
“Just about,” Kei shares a glance with Shinsō and he rubs his neck. “Give it a minute.” Meanwhile the hug?
It was ongoing. Going way past a minute. Somehow. Shinsō couldn’t help but wonder what kind of house Tomoko grew up in considering who was hanging onto her with a death grip. And this was the guy with the quirk that made him both “Unkillable” and “Extremely Unlucky.” Anyone would die in his position at any second, and yet he was choosing to spend his time cuddling a certain someone who would give cuddles to everyone else. At least, that’s how the scene looked to Shinsō.
“Tomo-chan, don’t just run off without Nii! Nii needs you around too, y’know!” Davy’s still cooing and Tomoko’s still blushing. “Hugs are a family thing!”
“B-But,” Tomoko’s spluttering now, huh, her hands are waving in the air, when did they start doing that? “H-Hitoshi-kun and Kei-chan are family too, Nii! Along with Hika-chan, Ochako-chan, and people in my class, and hugs are great! I don’t—” there’s another squeeze and she squeaks out in a nervous high-pitch, “see what’s the problem!?” Davy’s squeezing her tighter now. “Eep!”
Shinsō does his best to hide the happy blush at the whole “family” thing and shoots a glare at Kei once he starts hearing her snickering. Kei merely sticks her tongue out at him.
“Should we…” Midoriya fumbles, raising a shaky pointer finger to the two siblings, “should we stop them?”
Kei and Shinsō share a glance before shrugging. “Nah,” they say in unison.
“Why can’t I take your attention sometimes!?” Davy’s actually starting to tear up. How. “You are growing up so fast, Tomo-chan! I miss you as a little girl! My favorite baby sis!” He’s still hugging her, even with the obvious rain starting to drip down onto said little sis’s head. “Why can’t there be a time machine…?”
Tomoko in question is still pink and starting to squirm. “I-It was going to happen one day? And time machines don’t exist! You still see me in school, Nii! Even with the dorms!” It takes a single moment for her to reconsider her words. “A-And I think I was your only baby sis for the first few years… or something.”
Uraraka is the first one to break out laughing. “Sh-Should we all just — pffft — go to lunch together?”
Shinsō freezes, but it’s only for a second because Kei claps a comforting hand on his shoulder and Tomoko is finally away from her clingy upperclassman of a big brother, no thanks to a careful push. “S-Sure?” Tomoko’s voice cracks, but it’s really from the sudden offer than anything else. “That’s fine? It’ll be a big crowd, so we’ll have to find a table fast?”
“Then let us be off, Hoshino-kun!” Iida declares, and Midoriya smiles in time with Tomoko’s shy giggle. “Former Emergency Exit Iida Tenya shall escort you!”
What.
Yep. Shinsō doesn’t know what to make of it, but Kei is still around and Leonhart’s suddenly flanking him now too. “C’mon, Purple Troll,” Hikari muses, grabbing his right arm, “let’s get you a social life!”
“I already had one—”
Kei chuckles. “That doesn’t stop you from learning more.”
Shinsō sighs. He still wasn’t expecting the next moment.
“Oh! Wait a second!”
Iida starts in the middle of his march to the cafeteria. “Hoshino-kun?”
“Give me a minute, everybody.” Tomoko jumps and everyone turns to look at her as she proceeds to run into the 2-A classroom of all things, ducking behind the front desk to kneel towards the head of a familiar yellow sleeping bag. She pokes the bag gently. “Aizawa-sensei?”
There’s a grumble.
Midoriya and Iida both look like they’re close to panicking with the nervous and serious faces they were wearing, but Shinsō watches out of curiosity. Tomoko reaches over to gently pat the head area of the sleeping bag this time with her free hand while clutching her school bag, whispering her words. It was almost like she was used to this. “Aizawa-sensei, could I see you for a second? I want to give something to you, and you can sleep as much as you want after this.”
A pause. Then, to the shock of everyone except Kei, Leonhart, and Shinsō, the zipper in the front of the bag comes down and Sensei’s grimacing, rubbing one of his eyes. Even though he was sleeping a few seconds ago, the nap made it look like he came out of a dungeon with the dark bags lining his eyes. “Make it quick. I’m tired.” The red eyes symbolizing Eraserhead stares Tomoko down in anything but tired resignation. “What is it, Hoshino?”
Tomoko smiles and proceeds to pull out a small bundle of what looked like cookies from her bag, setting them down near Aizawa’s nose. “Sweets for you as thanks for letting me see Hitoshi-kun’s training session the other day, Sensei,” she says in the same whisper, slowly getting to her feet while still smiling. “They’re cat-shaped and have plenty of chocolate chips and almonds.”
Aizawa goes cross-eyed at the bundle in front of him. “…Is it dark chocolate?”
The Chocolate Fairy nods. “Made just for you, Sensei.” She rocks back and forth on the balls of her feet, hugging her school bag while nudging the gift closer to him with her free hand. “Feel free to share them with Mic-sensei if you want.”
“Ohmigod,” Davy says faintly. “So cute… my baby sis, caring for people!”
Shinsō can’t help but give him a look. “What are you, her brother or her dad?”
“I can be both!”
“Does that make Kei and I the big sisters?” Leonhart adds her three cents. Wow.
“You two quiet down!” Iida interrupts, still watching the scene from the doorway.
“Hm,” Aizawa says finally and then a lanky arm reaches out of his sleeping bag to take the gift, making it disappear into the yellow sleeping bag with him before the zipper goes all the way up to cover his face. “…Get to lunch, Hoshino.”
Tomoko giggles. “Aye aye. Have a nice nap, Sensei.”
Everyone was still staring once she trotted over to return. Silence was a good way of approximating what was said in that moment.
Tomoko blinks, but is barely fazed, merely inclining her head. “Eh? Why are you all looking at me like that?”
Yep. The Chocolate Fairy is still oblivious.
Uraraka coos and reaches over to wrap her arms around Tomoko’s shoulders. “Never change, Tomo-chan.”
“Eh? Eh?”
For once, Shinsō could see everyone else in the group agree without needing him to voice it too.
