I never saw Babe Ruth play baseball, but I did see him perform in a vaudeville show. He was a terrible singer.
I've been doing drag since 1920. Is what I do now "drag"? I'm not sure. You'd have to tell me, I only do it for fun. Did it for fun. Do.
I heard in some program that there's a gene that controls how bitter you think black coffee and red wine are! If you can't stand the stuff, you must have the gene. If that's the case, I don't have the gene.

A First Date || Vinter
Who: @joiehunterc & Vince Chambers Where: Progressive Field, The 50s Diner, & Hill overlooking the city When: Sunday August 4th What: Vince invites Hunter to a baseball game that ends up being their first date Triggers: N/A
Vince
Vince pulled up to Hunter's and sat in his car for a moment. He didn't really know what to consider this. Was it a date? Was it just two friends going to a baseball game? Vince didn't know. All he knew  was he was probably going to get questioned as to why he was wearing a Javier Baez jersey to an Indians/Angels game. But Vince refused to buy an Indians' shirt just because he lived there. He finally got out of his car and made his way up to Hunter's door and knocked on it ac ouple times before stepping back to wait.
Hunter
Hunter rushed out of his room the moment he heard the knock on the door, black slacks together with a blue shirt and blac shoes. "Coming!" he called out, grabbing his wallet, phone and keys, then he gave himself one final look in the mirror and took a deep breath before finally opening the door. "Hey!" he greeted him with a smile.  "Nice shirt!"
Vince
Vince could hear the other rushing around to finish getting ready. He smiled once he saw the door open and looked up to the other. "Hi!" he said before looking to his jersey. "Thank you! Fair warning though, people are going to stare because i'm not wearing the 'right' jersey" He said using air quotes around the word right. "But you look handsome. Ready to go?"
Hunter
Hunter chuckled and locked the door behind him. "Lucky you, I don't usually give a shit of what other people think" he said, then nodded. "Thanks. Yup, ready. Let's go."
Vince
Vince shrugged a little. “I could care less right now. I’m not putting on an Indians jersey.” He laughed a little before turning to head back to his car. He got in and buckled before looking to Hunter again. “Thanks for coming with me.”
Hunter
Hunter followed Vince down the steps that led to his car, then got in and put his seatbelt on. "Thanks for inviting me. Or tecnically, for deciding to take me, since it was am open invite." He chuckled and leaned back on his seat.
Vince
Vince pulled out and made his way onto the road, heading towards the stadium. “I’d never say no to hanging out with you.” He admitted.
Hunter
Hunter looked to the side and smiled. "I'm honored. I would think you have better things to do than hanging out with me. Especially considering how it went last time we talked."
Vince
Vince shrugged, glancing to him. “You’re still my best friend.” He told the other giving him a small smile.
Hunter
Hunter bit his lip down a bit. "I know. And you're mine. No matter what." He looked outside the window briefly, then back at him. "Did anything intetesting lately?"
Vince
Vince smiled listening to him. He was glad to know they were at least still friends if nothing else. “Just baseball practice as usual. You know me. Mr. Boring.”
Hunter
Hunter shifted on his seat a little. "When you say it like that it makes hard to argue about it. Have you joined any of the clubs in campus?"
Vince
Vince shook his head a little. “No. I wouldn’t even know what to join.” He laughed a little. “I’m not very good at anything other than sports.”
Hunter
Hunter shook his head. "I want to fight you about that and ay there's plenty you're good at, but I don't want us fighting on our da- our... yeah, date." He rubbed the back of his neck.
Vince
Vince glanced to the other as he spoke again. He turned down the road he needed and stopped in the line to get into the parking garage for the game. Vince blushed a little, glancing down before looking to the other hearing him. "We won't fight about it then. I"ll just have to realize I'm better at things than I believe."
Hunter
Hunter looked at him and smiled. "I know you are. Whoa! There are a lot of people here!" he said, looking at all the people in line to get in.
Vince
Vince laughed a little and nodded his head. "Have you never been to a major league baseball game?" He asked, following the line of traffic as they were waved on by a police officer.
Hunter
Hunter frowned, then blushed a bit when he realized he was on a bit of a spot all the sudden. "I- No?" He looked at him and shrugged. "I know enough about the discipline not to be all at loss though, don't worry." He chuckled and winked at him playfully.
Vince
Vince shook his head in disbelief. "How... why?" He laughed, finding a parking spot. "Well, Welcome to your first big league game. I'm sorry it's not the Cubs." He grinned at him before getting out of the car.
Hunter
Hunter got out of the car and laughed. "Have I just achieved a whole new level of weirdness with you? What can I say? I didn't have the type of father who would have a catch with me, or take me to a game. Shall we then?" He stepped up to him and placed his hand around his hip. "Show the way."
Vince
"If you think this is a new level of weirdness, where have you been since meeting me?" He laughed, locking the door and placed the keys on his pocket. He checked to make sure he had his wallet before smiling up at Hunter. "Well you better be ready to be going to A LOT of games with me." Vince said with a smile, moving his own arm around the other.
Hunter
Hunter scrunched his nose an grunted. "Nooo... How many?" he said, then laughed, obviously joking, then they both made it to where the main entrance was, both walking side by side, arms holding one another close.
Vince
"I mean, you're just lucky we're in Cleveland and not in Chicago or we'd have season tickets." Vince told him with a smile on his face. He pulled out his wallet once they got to the ticket office and got them the best tickets they had available. He thanked the woman and smiled up to Hunter. "We're right behind the home dugout."
Hunter
Hunter stood on the side while Vince got them the tickets, then followed him inside. "Ohhh, that's good, right? Like, right on the field?" There people walking all around them, crowding the way inside the stadium and the field. "Maybe one day we could go to Chicago to see a game. Or New York? Who  knows."
Vince
Vince nodded and smiled up to the other. He moved to take the other's hand so they could wiggle their way through the crowd a little better.  "Yes! I haven't been to a Cubs game in quite a few years and I really miss it. If we go to one in New York it has to be the Mets though. I can't stand the Yankees." Vince told him, giving him a smile. "Did you want food or beer or anything before we sit?"
Hunter
Hunter happily held onto Vince's hand as they navigated theie way through the crowd, then chuckled. "Well, you're the one who knows about this, so I'll leave the choosing of which games we'll be attending to you." He looked up at the food stand sign and thought about it for a second. "How about a dog and a beer?"
Vince
"I can definitely do that." He told him. Vince was just happy that they were spending time together again. He didn't want to think too much into it, especiatlly after their previous conversation, but Vince couldn't help but think how nice this was. "Just one? I'm getting you two." Vince said, taking them to stand in line. "They have vendors roaming throughout the game too if we want anything else."
Hunter
Hunter nodded and they both stood in front of the counter of the foodstand. "Two it is then. Will you have two as well, or are you leaving me to look like a starved hobo, hmm?" He waved at the vendor and waited for Vince to place their order.
Vince
Vince laughed a little and looked up to him. "you don't look like a hobo. But I'll be getting two as well." He said, walking up to the next available cashier and got their food and drinks. He paid and thanked them before handing Hunter his. He grabbed their tickets so they could head to their seats now. "Alright..." He said looking at the tickets before looking to the signs for seating. "This way..." He said, nodding towards the right hand side.
Hunter
With his hands now carrying his food and beer, Hunter couldn't hold onto his hand anymore, so he just made sure not to lose Vince in the crowd when they headed to where their seats were. Once they found them, he was amazed of how close to the field they actually were.
Vince
Vince smiled once they got to their seats and sat down, putting his beer on the ground up against the dugout. "Told you they were great seats." He said to the other, giving him a smile. "That's what happens when you don't have a very good team at the moment." He said quietly incase someone else was listening in.
Hunter
Hunter did with his cup what Vince did so it was within easy reach and he gave his dog a good bite while he listened to what he was saying. "It's perfect" he simply said, really enjoying the atmosphere of it all, but especially Vince's company.
Vince
Vince grinned at the other, taking a bite from his own hotdog. "I'm really glad you're enjoying it all already." Vince told him before taking another bite. "And nothing beats a stadium dog. People don't believe me, but they're so good."
August 5, 2019
Hunter
Hunter took a good sip of his beet and put it back, then he shrugged. "The company makes it better. Well, you're the expert so I don't have a reason not to trust your judgement. Do you think I can convince you to come to a soccer game with me someday?"
Vince
Vince smiled at the other, getting comfortable in his chair.  Vince nodded at the question and smiled to him again. "you'll have to explain it all to me because soccer is just a bunch of running around for me." He shrugged, taking a bite from his dog.
Hunter
Hunter chuckled and shrugged. "Does it beat also hitting a ball with a stick and running around as well?" he asked and leaned on his seat, the crowd roaring when they saw movement starting on the field. "Plus, what'd you think you will have to do throughout this game, hmm?"
Vince
Vince laughed and shook his head. "Oh but there's so much more than just hitting the ball." Vince said, grinning as players started to enter the field for warm up throws. "I'll explain it to you. Don't worry." He said, smiling brightly to the other.
Hunter
Hunter chuckled. "Spoken like a true baseball fan." He looked at him and smiled, and he noticed just how his face lit up when he smiled. "Thanks. I don't want to leave the game being that ignorant."
Vince
Vince nodded his head a little, the smile still on his face as he watched the players on the field. "you won't be that ignorant." He told him, nudging him gently.
Hunter
Hunter smiled softly at the playful nudge, then he reached his hand out carefully and placed it on top of Vince's. "Is this okay?"
Vince
Vince smiled, glancing to their hands before looking to Hunter again with a nod. He turned his hand in Hunter's to hold it. "Definitely okay."
Hunter
Hunter closed his hand on Vince's when he turned their hands together, then looked at him and smiled. "Start explaining then."
Vince
Vince smiled at him and relaxed against the chair. "They're just warming up right now. They'll do the starting line ups and then the national anthem. Nothing too exciting yet."
Hunter
Hunter nodded. "Good. I can enjoy my second hotdog then." He chuckled and took a big bite of it, his other hand keeping its hold on his. After a while the national anthem was announced, so they stood up for that.
Vince
Vince stood next to the other, letting go of his hand so the other could use it for the anthem. Once over, Vince sat back down and took a drink from his beer. "Alright. So now the home team, so Cleveland, will take the field and the visiting team will bat." He explaing to the other.
Hunter
Most of the game went on from there with Hunter listening carefully to everything Vince was saying; although he had some general knowledge on the subject, there were some points he definitely didn't know. And the time he wasn't really listening was because he was distracted looking at him, and he liked the way in which he seemed to shine when he spoke about it.
Vince
Vince stood up after the game and stretched. "Did you enjoy the game?" He asked, dropping his arms as he looked up to the taller male, a smile still on his face.
Hunter
Hunter also stretched his arms and back when he stood up, then he gathered the empty cups and trash they had. "I did! And I particulary liked the team you were rooting for won too, so that's good too." He  walked to the closest trash bin and threw it all in it, then dusted his hands off and put them on his hips. "So... Do you want to go for an ice cream?"
Vince
Vince nodded his head with a smile. "Well, they're not really my team. But i'm glad the Indians won still since we were in their stadium." He said, following him up to throw the trash away. Vince nodded at the suggestion and smiled to him. "I'd like that."
Hunter
Hunter nudged his arm playfully and laughed. "You know what I mean, silly" he said, then he took his hand again and nodded. "Cool. But we'll get it to go. I want us to go somewhere else." He grinned slightly, then they walked to the exit door and to where the car was parked.
Vince
Vince held onto the other's hand as they walked, the smile still on his face. "Oh? And where exactly were you planning on eating our ice cream?" He asked curiously, heading to the car. He unlocked the door and got in. "And where did you want to get ice cream?"
Hunter
Hunter didn't say anything until they got into the car, and even then he did nothing but grinning for a while. "It's a surprise. As for where can we go, I'd say either The Sno Co, or The 50's. They make a good banana split there. Maybe we could share? I mean... I don't know. Whatever you want."
Vince
Vince pulled out of his spot and nodded to the suggestions. "I like The 50s." He said with a smile, pulling out onto the road. "So we'll go there. And we can definitely share something." he said, thinking how cute that would be.
Hunter
Hunter nodded and put his seatbelt on. "Awesome. I like that place too, especially the jukebox. I love anything vintage." He played with the radio while Vince drove all the way there, finally finding a nice soft rock channel they could listen to until they finally made it to the diner.
Vince
Vince smiled, glancing to the other. "Really? I didn't know that about you." he said, turning down the road they needed to get to the diner. "I really love that 50's to early 60s vibe of things too. I just think it was so neat."
Hunter
Hunter looked to the side and smiled at him. "The summer of love and all that? I bet we would've had fun back then." He wiggled his eyebrows at him and chuckled, then it wasn't long before they were parking outside the bus shaped diner. "This is place is so retro, I love it."
Vince
"Well that was '69, wasn't it? I don't know if I'd have been a good hippie." He laughed as he parked. Vince got out and smiled to Hunter and nodded. "Me too. Thanks for suggesting it."
Hunter
Hunter laughed and got out of the car. "Who knows? Maybe it would've been fun." He held the door open for him and then walked behind him as they looked for an available booth, which they found soon enough. The waitress came along and served them a cup of coffee and left the menus for them to look at.
Vince
Vince smiled, walking in and headed over to an open booth. He thanked the waitress and grabbed a creamer to put in his coffee before sipping it. "So, banana split?" He asked curiously
Hunter
Hunter took his coffee black as always, and he was grateful for having it as soon as they got there. "Yes, of course! Unless you're still hungry, and if that's the case we can order something too."
Vince
Vince hummed a little at the taste of the coffee as he sipped it.  "I wouldn't be opposed to some cheese fries too. I'm not super hungry but I could go for a little more than ice cream."
Hunter
Hunter nodded and waved at the waitress. "We'll make that two as well then." He had the waitress write that down, and also the banana split already.
Vince
Vince thanked her and handed his menu back before looking back to Hunter. "Thank you for suggesting this. It's a really great way to end the night."
Hunter
Hunter tilted his head and smiled. "Remember, this isn't where the night is going to end."
Vince
Vince held the cup between his hands and hummed. "Oh right! The mystery location." He said with a smile.
Hunter
Hunter took another sip of his coffee, then put the cup down and shrugged. "It isn't really nothing special, but it's a place I like to go from time to time, so I want to share it with you."
Vince
Vince smiled at the other and nodded a little. "I'm sure I'll love it too." He told him. Vince sat back as the waistress brought over their friends to which Vince thanked her. "I love cheese fries." He said picking one up to eat.
Hunter
Hunter dove into his own fries quickly, also thinking he would later need to do some serious workout to sweat all those calories off; but for now, he was just going to enjoy it. "They're deliciious."
Vince
Vince nodded in agreement, blowing on another one to cool it off some. "So, what else don't I know about you?" He asked, tilting his head to the side.
Hunter
Hunter chuckled. "Oh, I'm not really all that interesting, you should know that. You've heard how people call me a stuck up and boring person."
Vince
Vince shrugged, popping a fry in his mouth. "And you know how boring I am and yet here we are. So talk." He said, gently kicking his leg under the table in a playful manner.
Hunter
Hunter laughed. "No, seriously. I'm what you see. Or, what you see is what you get, so maybe... I don't know-" He shrugged. "Maybe this is your chance to back out from being with a boring guy."
Vince
Vince took a sip from his coffee again listening to him. He hummed in thought before shaking his head. "Nah, I'm perfectly okay with being with a boring guy."
Hunter
Hunter felt he needed to say everything to Vince, come clean about things that had happened lately, but figured he could do that once they went where he wanted to take him, so for now he simply reached out for his hand over the table and smiled. "You've been warned then" he said with a chuckle.
Vince
Vince smiled and reached over taking hold of the other's hand. "I've been warned." He repeated, reaching over with his free hand to steal one of Hunter's fries even though he still had some of his own.
Hunter
"Hey!" he protested, then put his other hand out and stole a fry from Vince's plate too.
Vince
"That one had more cheese on it." He said with a laugh. "I couldn't help myself."
August 6, 2019
Hunter
Hunter chuckled. "That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard for you to touch my stuff" he said, then they both kept on eating their fries until their plates were empty. Some little time later their banana split arrived and Hunter paid for their check. "You think we'll be able to take this in the car?" he asked and chuckled.
Vince
Vince laughed and shrugged as he went back to eat his own fries. Vince thanked the waitress before  looking to their ice cream. "I mean, we can try! How far is this secret place? Maybe we should eat it before so it doesn't melt."
Hunter
Hunter scrunched his nose in thought. "A bit. You're right, we should eat it first. Next time we go there I'll think of something more solid to eat." He chuckled and handed Vince one of the spoons so he could eat from it.
Vince
Vince took the spoon and started to dig in. "Maybe we can have a picnic there or something sometime. That would be nice." He suggested before taking the bite.
Hunter
Hunter nodded, his mouth already busy with the ice cream, and he waited until he swallow to speak again. "That's a good idea." He hummed thoughtfully as he ate, every once in a while looking up amd looking at him.
Vince
Vince smiled and continued to eat his portion of the ice cream. "I've always wanted to go on a picnic. We used to go when I was little with my family to the park all the time."
Hunter
Hunter looked at him curiously. "You did? What else do you remember  growing up?"
Vince
Vince nodded, scooping up some of just the whipped cream to eat. "I remember every summer we would literally just spend every waking moment on the lake.  One time I refused to go in so my oldest brother said he'd sleep on the pontoon boat with me. We lived in more of a tourist city so we had a lot of cool shops we'd go to and stuff."
Hunter
Hunter smiled. "Sounds like fun. And it was cool of your brother to do that for you as well. Our summer were mainly spent at the beach, so that was nice too."
Vince
Vince nodded and smiled up at him. "I think you'd really like them." Vince told him seriously.
Hunter
Hunter chuckled. "Well, you know me and water. We're one and the same, wherever it is." He looked at him,  also seriously. "I know I would've. Especially since you were there."
Vince
Vince nodded his head, taking another scoop of ice cream. "you're like a fish." HE laughed before blushing a little, looking down for a moment hearing him.
Hunter
Hunter laughed and shrugged. "I better be a good one. I'm Captain of the swim team after all!" He shook his head at his own lame joke and continued to eat. "Do you like it?" he asked, pointing at the dessert.
Vince
Vince smiled at the other again. "You're a really good fish." He laughed before nodding his head. "Yeah, it's really good. But then again, when is ice cream not?"
Hunter
Hunter shrugged. "Fair point" he said, then sighed and put his spoon down before leaning back on his seat. "Ugh, I suck at this so much, sorry. You must be bored to death and you're just too polite to tell me."
Vince
Vince finished off the ice cream before wiping his hands on the napkin. He looked up confused at the other and shook his head. "I'm not bored at all!"
Hunter
Hunter rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm not good at this part, Vince. I don't know how to do small talk, or be charming. None of the things people do when they date. I just-" He sighed. "I'm just good a fucking. That's all people wants, so I give them just that."
Vince
Vince leaned against the table, reaching out for the other's hand again. "you're doing wonderful, Hunter." He told him seriously. "I haven't dated anyone since high school. So this is new for both of us. We can work on it together."
Hunter
Hunter held onto Vince's hand. "I don't think I've ever been in a proper date. I mean, I've gone out a lot but... not with people- Not like you. Not people I like the way I like you." He bit his lip down and looked at him. "You're ready to go now?"
Vince
Vince gave him a smile listeing to him. "Well my point still stands. You're doing a great job." He told him, giving his hand a squeeze. Vince nodded his head and moved to get up. "Ready to go."
Hunter
Hunter rolled his eyes playfully and pulled him up. "Shut up" he said with a chuckle and they both left the diner to go where the car was. "Just take the man road" he told him after he put his seatbelt on.
Vince
Vince smiled and got into the car. He nodded his head, putting his seat belt on before backing out of the parking spot and out onto the main road
Hunter
Hunter made sure to give Vince all the proper directions to their final spot for the evening, which took about 15 minutes before they left the main road and took a much smaller road up the hill. "You can oark over there" he said pointing at the spot, from where they could lk down at the night city lights and the rest of the valley.
Vince
Vince followed the directions and nodded his head a little as he pulled up to the spot and parked. He smiled seeing the view before looking over to Hunter. "It's beautiful."
Hunter
Hunter walked to the front of the car and leaned back, his hands shoved inside his pockets. "This is one of my favorite spots. I like watching the world from afar." He shrugged and looked down.
Vince
Vince got out and followed him so he was sitting on the hood of his car. "It's really nice up here." He told him, nudging Hunter a little. "Thank you."
Hunter
Hunter looked back at him and smiled. "I'm glad you do" he said, then turned around so he could face him. "There's something I have to tell you, because I want us to be honest with each other..."
Vince
Vince looked back out to the city before hearing Hunter say he wanted to tell him something. "Okay?" He asked, a little worried
Hunter
Hunter thought for a couple of seconds on how he ahould say what he needed to say, realizing then there was no other way of saying it. "Someone told me they were in love with me recently..." he said, not saying the person's name at first, wanting to gauge Vince's reaction.
Vince
Vince kept his eyes on the other and could feel his heart drop a little. "Oh..." He said, looking back to the city for a moment so he could think. "And your feelings for them?" He asked, not really knowing what to say right now. It had been an amazing date but right now, Vince wasn't sure how it was going to end.
Hunter
Hunter immediately noticed Vince's understandable reaction, and he moved closer and cupped hos chin so he could look at him. "Definitely not the same."
Vince
Vince turned his head once Hunter moved it. He gave a smile hearing the answer and nodded a little. "Okay. Good." He said, before laughing slightly. "Sorry that was mean of me."
Hunter
Hunter also chuckled and shook his head. "You're not mean. That's a normal reaction. I just- I wanted you hear this from me, in case some gossip finds its way to you. Which is something normal at our college." He rolled his eyes and chuckled, then stepped closer, moving to stand in between Vince's legs. "You're okay about that?"
Vince
Vince nodded his head, glad that Hunter wasn't upset with how his reaction was. He moved to sit up a little more as Hunter moved and wrapped his arms around his neck. "As long as they don't steal you from me." He nodded, leaning in for a kiss.
Hunter
Hunter put his arm around his waist. "Unlikely. I won't lose you now that I know we're in the same pace. I guess I feel bad for her- Yeah, it's a woman. And perhaps she will hate me and I lost her friendship for good, but I can't help feel the way I feel, you know?" He sighed and leaned his forehead in Vince's.
Vince
Vince pulled back to look at his as he spoke. He smiled a little more listening to him. “Well if she’s really your friend she’d understand. Because if you chose her over me, I’d understand.  I’d be upset, sure. But we’d still be friends.” Vince said. He smiled at the other, his fingers playing with the other’s hair. “Not gonna lie though, I’m glad you’re picking me.”
Hunter
Hunter sighed and nodded. "I suppose so. We'll just have to wait and see." He looked up at him and smiled. "I'm.glad too" he said, then leaned in and kissed him softly.
Vince
Vince smiled and nodded his head. He leaned up into the kiss to return it gently. He pulled back after a moment to look at him. “Thank you for telling me. I appreciate it coming from you.”
August 7, 2019
Hunter
Hunter nodded, pulling his arms back so his hands would rest on Vince's thighs. "I suppose it's best when things are said and clear, you know?" He turned around and leaned back on the car, staying beside the other.
Vince
Vince nodded at the other, the smile still on his face. He laid back against his car once Hunter did, moving his hand to hold onto the other’s as they looked out over the city.
