That weird mood I sometimes find myself in reading other people posts about children, and infancy and internet security for minors. 

Look, you weirdly puritan mass of persons. I was talking and walking at people in the streets at 1.5 years old with my correct rrr’s and verbs etc, if we listen to my mother and various family members. I still believed in the Three Wizard Kings when I was 9, but I also knew vaguely from TV and conversations what sex was and I discovered masturbation without knowing what it was called by myself a year later. A perfectly sane person!! No weird ideas about relationships or anything (no more than patriarchy and heteronormativity had gotten in my brain which lol).

I opened the forbidden door to lemon and +16 fics at 11 old and wow. Not traumatised. When I didn’t like something I just closed the window and nobody got a chance in hell to know who I was bc my name and age was nowhere near my fanfiction. net account and various spanish variants. Bc I had the common sense given to me by my upbringing to know information in the net was a hard no. 

And my parents more or less knew!! That I was reading things online without stop, romances and magic, along the myriad of books from the old teens, young adult section of the local library. My mother gave me to read at 13 Isabel Allende’s Eva Luna knowing that I maybe wouldn’t catch everything the book was about but that I could appreciate it and enrich myself with its history. And I read it in an afternoon. 

I started devouring CLAMP manga/anime at around the same age and diving deep in other stories of the variant at the same time. Bc I was a gothic teen without the aesthetic as my mother would teasingly say. (Just a bit of the aesthetic and she encouraged/s that by gifting me clothes) 

And all of this is how know I know what stories are a hard no to me bc I would hate them, how to stop when simply I don’t like something without hating and how to keep reading. How to read between the lines of other forms of media, how narratives are created. I know a lot of seemingly incongruent facts about lots of different themes that give me a leg up when I want to learn new things. I learnt from books why is ok that people are so different and the reason so many are idiots. And to not be furious with others, but still don’t accept shit. 

Fandom taught me the above and more. Bc my mother and schooling weren’t shit and I knew how to listen to what others say. 

Maturity levels are different is what I meant with my tirade above and I hate when people talk about teenagers as if they were idiots in need of protection of the big bad internet and the people on it. I discovered great media platforms for interaction at 16-17 when I was at last interested. Also, when I had to stop lying about my age in order to read fic, see fanart, or meta it felt surreal. I had been doing that for years without like. Going crazy or whatever it is people fear, lmao. 

So keep the spaces as open as is secure to stop online abusers etc. but letting teens explore online. But there’s very impressionable people out there, you weridly puritan says. I know person-
