You know I’m starting to fixate on something where I actually care enough about it to ramble something something- so let’s give it up for NSR! *tiny applause of me doing whatever the hell i want to do on this blog*
An odd thing for me though is that I’m specifically doing a whole character ramble and practically ONLY a character ramble so no biology stuff here (only slight astronomy). Please welcome to the stage, my scrimblo bimblo: DJ Subatomic Supernova!
As I once again shove aside my not only in-progress work but the ‘actually read to post’ work too, I’m here to spew words about my favourite egotistical space orb and not only am I going to do that, but also compare them to someone else of a unique mind. Because of both of their particular quirks about identity, self-importance, and ultimately expression of art, I like to think DJSS may share some grounds with Eve, perhaps enough to decently get along with each other if not even form a friendship.
If you’re one of my typical followers interested enough in reading this to get to here - the second paragraph UNDER the readmore - I will give a summary of the DJ and the Diva. DJ Subatomic Supernova, a space themed NSRtist with an ego so dense it can cause a singularity (which may or may not be an actual literal thing that has or did happen) and underappreciated ex-professor of university grade astronomy, strives to preserve their name and music to extend not only beyond their own time but for the future beyond humanity’s own existence in order to stave away fading into obscurity and truly becoming everlasting. In this battle of existential dread and their entire ‘Avatar of Earth’ schtick, we have a character who’s ego comes with a twist of not being selfish even though it is significantly self-centered, their motivations though using the medium of themselves being to create a legacy for humanity that will spread to the furthest reaches of the galaxy and back.
Eve meanwhile - real name Nadia - views the world in ways that seems only she can, seeing herself as the only one to understand the way she thinks and feeling so incredibly lonely in that fact - a realm of existentialism in of itself - especially since the one person that had begun the attempt had ended up losing thanks to his hair being set on fire. Expressing herself not only through her psy-dub music, Eve is an artist of multiple mediums from sound to visual, of sculpture, fashion, and paintings, many themes of her work centering on her personal experiences and insecurities, of eyes staring at her peculiarities and of turning those eyes against the viewer.
And what do you get when you cross an egotistical existentialist with a suffering surrealist? Maybe you get a little common ground to stand on. Perhaps not enough to satiate Eve’s personal desire to find like-minded brothers and sisters, perhaps not enough to bring Nova back down to Earth to appreciate the present for what it is. But perhaps enough that at least among coworkers, there’s even remotely enough broken ice to hold a conversation, perhaps enough that if in friendship, Eve may look towards the stars and Nova may look at the self of another.
Of course, this is not simply a character analysis based solely on canonical information, as it is now that I will elaborate (at least from the perspective of DJSS) with some headcanons of my own.
I’ve always been particularly an NSR lurker, not really doing much of actual engagement with the fandom but certainly sitting by the wayside and looking in. A thing that I have seen for folk’s take on a younger Nova is that they weren’t always a supernova one Bunkbed Junction away from going singularity- instead, they were a star. It’s always been one of the larger blue stars, but here I’d like to just go out and make it an O-Class main sequence star and be essentially a miniaturised equivalent; and when I say equivalent, I mean EQUIVALENT!
If you were an object head of maybe a G-Class main sequence star (the star itself significantly smaller than what it would actually be), you’d have on your head a miniature sun that would be a little portable and ultimately dimmer version of our very own Sol (or specifically if you had a G2-Class star which is more accurately our own sun). But if you had the misfortune of having an O-Class (O2-Class in this case for reference) star, with 800000 times the luminosity of the sun you’ve got a very VERY significant issue about just existing if you don’t wear something for the protection of literally anyone and anyTHING with eyes or cameras.
The ‘not yet named Nova’ Nova had to grow up early on wearing a super shaded helmet for the entire time they were star - already a thing one might be self-conscious about - up to and including the very moment they went supernova, another thing I must touch on. Depending on the size and general energy output of a particular celestial object - such as; a star - the point in time in which it collapses in on itself and, in the sake of stars, supernovas changes. And this particular case, let’s change a rather heard of saying for the sake of elaboration; the bigger you are, the faster you fall-
Not only was most of Nova’s early life spent hiding their star for the sake of other’s, anyone from astronomers themselves to any old star object head would say it was simply an inevitability that their star would collapse in on itself and become someone completely different, not a matter of if but when... and most certainly ‘young’ while it’s at it. Insecurities from being beheld a wonder to being seen as weird to even having adults already mourning their existence as a star, Nova may in fact turn to the stars above and retreat from the stars below in order to even begin to attempt to cope with their inevitable demise, embracing the existentialism and relying on their inherent knowledge of the astral sea to pursue a career in education. To teach people not to fear the end, the whatever theorised death of the universe, the collapsing of stars. To say that they shouldn’t be feared and shouldn’t be mourned just because they will change - and they will - and that the supernova that has been the subject of so much misplaced misery is in fact a dispersal of resources that can build to something much greater than the some of its parts.
And they are left unheard in the vast emptiness of space, of the classroom, of the home.
The inevitable happens, sparked early (far too early even for an O-Class) by a numeral amount of factors that would cause their world to spin, the light to bend, and an insurmountable level of stress and pain and misery and insecurity influenced supernova.
Too many lights and sounds and senses, DJ Subatomic Supernova particularly hates the design of Akusuka and Metro Division. Cast Tech, the district they hold Charter to, is low lit for a reason. Natura does not induce the swirling of senses, but DJSS has no particular interest in the gardens, for all the worth they put into Earth as a whole. And Dream Fever, something about the eyes that stare and the oddities that twist and turn.
Perhaps it is not their first choice to take in the work of Eve - of Nadia; the artist behind it all - it is not a reflection of their own story, nor does it reflect where they stand now. But there is meaning, meaning they can take in, take pieces of and relate them back to the past. The past that no longer exists, not if they have anything to say about it, not that they had any say in the first place. The artist Nadia, the diva Eve, the balance of the insecure and the expression. Reveling in the dual tones a much younger Nadia tried to hide (concealer rubbing off to reveal a hot pinkish red), the criticism of the viewer, to make the audience feel what had been felt constantly not entirely that long ago. A desperate plea to find someone that will listen, someone that will understand, someone that will hold their memory and share their story ad nauseam.
Perhaps there is something to share solace in, knowing that back on Earth there was another like Nova themselves seeking to engage to the world beyond them.
Though for different reasons, perhaps the two find even a slight solidarity with each other, whether friends or simple coworkers.
#djss#dj subatomic supernova#eve#nsr eve#no straight roads#nsr#character analysis#headcanon#to my tf ben 10 and td fans lmao oops nsr kicked down the dorr#i might not have the most amount of nsr folk here but hey listen i got some djss and eve solidarity here#i have been constantly thinking about nova for a few days now and only today did the comparison to eve come up#it's not that it's unheard of to have eve nova friendship in fact i've seen a few of those already#but i've also seen completely isolated (self-imposed or otherwise) nova that really does not deal with the other artists outside of meetings#i like both and i like each separately but i thought about how a dj diva friendship could happen#and because i really like to think about object heads in relation to everyone else in nsr#(i have seen others think about people like yinu's mama so if i happen to think of trees and plant stuff there's a jumping off point)#i really like to think how it must've been to grow up as specifically nova#in short: insecurities both from the outgroup AND the ingroup#probably why the fucker has a privilege pass to talk to them- folk would talk to them like something to mourn or just weird#they'd rather get money out of the schmuck ballsy enough to talk smack about the space dj#or if anything go 'so NOW you want to talk to me with respect? pay me for damages'#you know- full of spite#besides- out of the 4 other districts that nova has the physical ability to visit#dream fever (and natura) are the least visually and audibly intensive to deal with#natura may be a wonderful place (other than cast tech) to take a breather and a silent moment within the city#but it's not as if nova would have much interaction (in natura outside of meetings) with yinu or her mum#eve would be the one they'd likely run into- especially at a gallery and especially especially at a showing#also- djss is the only fucker to have not only light up clothes but a straight up gif#if anyone would pay attention enough to notice and intrigued enough to learn it would be eve the fashionista (among many other things)

What would be Miguel’s excuse to keep people and children in Nueva York? (Children are treated differently in the NSpideRverse)
(Also I heard that the Spider Society fits all of the definitions of a cult)
It would probably be a fear-based tactic. The difference between canon and this AU of Miguel's organization is that it has completely different goals since there is no multiverse in the AU.
Canon is trying to save the multiverse by making sure canon events happen and anomalies are caught or else a universe can just die. In this AU though, I see Miguel as being a place where elementals and people with extremely strong powers go to learn how to control their powers so they don't accidentally hurt other people (especially for families who don't have that same power, like how Pav's powers are too much for his family to help him learn how to control it).
So I would say that Miguel's organization is more like a boarding school/housing area that allows anyone with strong powers they can't control to come and learn how to use them.
The problem is that Miguel and the organization run off of scaring people into just not using their powers. Kinda like how Elsa was traumatized into not using her powers for fear she is going to kill her sister and everyone else she cares about. It's all about suppression of powers, mind over matter, things like that.
People who complete this program may seem to have control over their powers, but quite a few of them actually don't. If they loose control of their emotions then they would most likely loose control of their powers. Think of how Mama lost her shit in Yinu's fight and probably would have continued to try to kill or seriously injure B2J if Yinu didn't start playing the piano at the end.
Miguel would point that out as weakness and explain that she could have killed her kid. Or how DJSS could have killed people with his black hole, or how Eve could have permanently scarred B2J's minds with her powers (he probably loves using the NSR Revolution as examples for people, especially if he finds out Pav is related to Eve, he would use that as ammunition to try and get Pav to suppress his powers away to not end up like his cousin).
This kind of teaching is obviously wrong, but for kids who have families who are scared of their powers or for elementals who people might be scared of just because of the nature of their powers (think fire elementals being seen as dangerous), they would listen to this kind of teaching and think it is how things are done. Of course the average person would be scared of being sucked into a black hole or being set on fire just because you lost your temper, so make sure you are always in control of your emotions and never use your powers.
Miguel's organization just plays off of people's fears and the outcome of people who graduate his program is almost always what he wants, which is why people keep coming to him. Kids/teens can't really leave because a lot of them are sent there from far away, and so they wouldn't be able to just leave. Plus most of them wouldn't want to leave because if they use their powers and hurt someone, that just proves that Miguel and his teachings are right and their families and friends were right to fear them, so might as well stay and learn how to control these powers.
This is what I personally think of when I think of Miguel's organization in this AU. It was the best I could come up with, but if someone else has a better idea then let me know and I might either change my initial idea or at least take inspiration and make a new version, but for now this is what I think of when thinking of Miguel's organization.
[Also as for the cult thing, I think the Spider Society does mind-altering practices like sleep deprivation, but other than that (and possibly the society not doing love-bombing) I would say that technically that is correct. The Spider Society does fit a lot of characteristics of a cult. I think the major difference would be that I'm pretty sure you can leave the Spider Society if you wanted to, while a cult you can't really do that, at least not easily. I don't really know what to add to this part of the ask honestly, I don't know much about cults to be able to give an opinion on if I see the Spider Society as a cult or not].

good evening nsr community, i went through the ama from today and came back with an armful or two of lore. there’s a bunch more than last time, and i included bbj as well as the npcs. cozy up, check under the cut, and prepare for a long read. enjoy!
today's ama featured wan hazmer and daim dziauddin again, as well as concept artist ellie and animator ben fong.
BUNK BED JUNCTION (FT. DK WEST)
- mayday and zuke live in the sewers because they're an underground band. it's a pun - there were originally two variations of bbj leaving the sewers - one with mayday hi-fiving gigi (which had a 95% chance of happening), and one with zuke awkwardly fumbling and attempting to hi-five gigi (which had a 5% chance) - one of the inspirations for mayday and zuke were the two main characters of samurai champloo (zuke was jin, mayday was mugen) - someone asked about if the rest of the cast had their own shadow puppets. ben suggested a lemur for mayday, while ellie suggested a zucchini for zuke. she may have been joking. - mayday's guitar solos were done by different people, but zuke's drum solos were all done by bruno valverde. - zuke was the one who implemented the canister thing into mayday's guitar. - someone asked who of the cast are the introverts and who are the extroverts. mayday is an extrovert, zuke is an introvert. - the team does have a bit of lore for mayday and zuke and how they met, but they want to save it in case of a future project. - mayday was inspired by both genevieve from company of thieves and the unbreakable kimmy schmidt. - ben did the animation for mayday swinging the hammer in the workshop. - haz recalls seeing some fanart of mayday being brought up as a rich girl. he doesn't remember the artist, but he does like the idea. - the japanese version has zuke say he has a phd rather than a master's degree. this is apparently a mistake. - the pattern on zuke's pants was inspired by jolyne cujoh and prosciutto from jojo's bizarre adventure. - zuke's toilet seat collection came partially from a story from one of the environmental artists where one of their high school friends pranked another friend with a toilet seat. - zuke does a lot of reading and is naturally inquisitive about things like tech and mechanics. - dk west's shadow puppet abilities might run in the family, and zuke may have it as well. - both zuke and dk west are connected by percussion (zuke with the drums, west with the hand claps) - zuke and west weren't always designed to be related -- west was originally designed as "some guy who comes and goes," but was made into zuke's brother later on in production - dk west is an extrovert.
DJ SUBATOMIC SUPERNOVA
- djss' dj name is obviously a stage name, but the team didn't have a real name for him in the script or anything. - haz joked that his name is bob salad. that's not canon but from what i seen the chat loved it lol - haz brings up the symbolism of djss spinning the planets around himself and how it represents that he thinks of himself as the center of the universe. - ellie helped design the districts, and something she noted about dj's is that it's supposed to look the "slummiest" because he cares more about himself and less about things like blackouts. - dj had some lines cut from his boss fight. those lines? mini lectures towards bbj during every phase. they were cut because the team felt like they were too much for the game, but they want to share them one day. - daim says that dj could be either introverted or extroverted becuase of how much time he spends alone looking at the stars. - dj was never planned to have an approach segment, but funk fiction wasn't told that, so he made him an approach theme anyway. - dodo ice pops are traffic light flavoured, which is a popular ice cream in malaysia. it's strawberry, pineapple, and lime flavored.
SAYU AND THE NERD SQUAD
- three of sayu's creators were based on staff members at metronomik. remi (voiced by ben) was based on one of the programmers and one of the environmental artists (ellie calls him "the lovechild of two dudes"), tila was based on (and voiced by) ellie herself, and dodo was based on danish mak (another environmental artist who also voices him). - sofa wasn't based on anyone in particular, he was more of a "general otaku guy" according to ellie (though haz joked that ellie could just say he was based on him). - dodo is daim's favorite npc -- he also designed him! - sayu was ellie's favorite character to design. she loves drawing mermaids. - the progression in sayu's fight where you go deeper into the "ocean" is supposed to be a metaphor for going deeper into the internet/the deep web. - ellie suggested that if sayu were to have a shadow puppet, it would be a cat. - as for the introvert/extrovert debate, daim says sayu is technically comprised of 4 introverts. sayu herself is the extrovert mask they wear. - sayu's ahoge is a submarine periscope. remi looks through it in one of the cutscenes. - sayu's not a mech. she's remotely controlled by her creators from their computer room. - the backstory between remi and tila is meant to show that artists can come from all sorts of backgrounds.
YINU AND MAMA
- yinu's promotional video was one of the first ones done before they brought in lzbros, so it originally looked different from how it looks in the game now. - yinu's mother's eyes are yellow because she spends most of the fight focusing on yinu (who is mainly yellow). when her eyes go blank white, it represents that she's momentarily forgotten what she loves the most. when her eyes become yellow again after the fight, it means she's remembered yinu and her piano playing. - the way ellie describes natura is that yinu is a plant and her mother is very protective of her, and one of the distinctive features is that there are a lot of domes with plants inside, particularly on the roofs of the houses. - yinu's commercial was not intended to reference little miss fortune. the commercial was shown in 2018, while LMF came out a year later. - yinu's mom turning into a giant tree monster isn't exclusive to her just being angry at bbj. apparently the whole plant thing runs in the yinu family.
1010
- 1010's concept as a boy band had been around since before the team started production, but they were the last to be fully designed -- their designs weren't finalized until way later on. - 1010 were ellie’s least favorite characters to design. she doesn't like drawing guys OR robots. - 1010's early designs had them wearing tuxedos. - 1010 do have memories. - the inspiration for the butt plates came from one of ben's gundam figures from his collection in the metronomik office. thanks ben. - ellie's favorite member of 1010 is purl-hew/blue. - eloni/green is apparently the rapper of the group. - the jingle you hear from the carousel in metro division is a carnival remix of 1010's boss theme. - the numbers underneath 1010's names on the autographs are completely random.
NEON J
- neon j is a dancer. daim explains that in addition to being in the navy, dance has always been his true passion. - in the final phase of 1010's fight, he was originally supposed to control the dance moves of the factory as he was fighting you, but it was cut due to limited resources. - daim designed neon j based on ellie's designs for 1010. - neon j's factory's dance moves were all animated by ben -- no mocap needed. the factory was also his favorite thing to animate. - daim says that "neon j is to tatiana as soundwave is to megatron." basically he is extremely loyal to tatiana. - neon j was one of earliest members of nsr. - neon j seeing 1010 as his sons wasn't planned, but daim loves the concept so much that he could see it being canon. - daim says neon j's brain is "probably" still inside the monitor head. somehow. - neon j is an extrovert. - haz likes the idea of neon j being blind and using his sonar to "see" things. ben joked that the screen worked like giant glasses. - neon j originally had red dots that would pop up on his face when the sonar moved by that were meant to represent acne, and that would've been the reason why he's mostly behind the scenes.
EVE
- in mayday's side of the room when eve splits up bbj, the hands all over the walls are meant to be there to show how eve is angrier at mayday than she is at zuke. - the time signature for the music in mayday's room during the fight is 6/8, whereas in zuke's room it's 4/4. - ellie suggested a platypus shadow puppet for eve. the rest of the team seems to be on board. - eve was ben's least favorite character to animate. he said he struggled with animating her dance moves because it was something he'd never done before, and he still doesn't think he did a good enough job. - eve was born with her split skin tone. - apparently eve's near scrapping had something to do with costs. haz was the one who stopped it from happening. - eve's outfit was partly inspired by beyonce, while her jacket was partly inspired by ariana grande. the team took some inspiration from bjork, as well. - the sleeves on eve's jacket were apparently limbs at one point. - eve is an introvert.
NPCS/OTHER CHARACTERS
- part of tatiana's symbolism is how she used to be a rock star, but her flame/passion slowly burned away, and now she's just a rock, referencing how she was literally on fire as the rock star kul fyra, but now looks burnt out. - daim thinks kliff is older than tatiana, probably over 50. - in addition to the neon j dance lore mentioned above, kayane rambling about neon j after the 1010 fight was supposed to be connected to her watching neon j dance. - ben and haz's favorite npc is mia, and ellie's is dj zam. - dj zam was inspired by one of ellie's college friends, who she says "makes you feel comfortable to be around". - ellie thinks dj zam's neck tattoo says "i love mom". - amal the unicorn was inspired by lady amalthea from the 80's animated film "the last unicorn". he was originally written to be a real talking unicorn, but it was changed partially because his horn wasn't in the right spot on his head. - zed was based on game designer dzaid and has hyperacusis, a hearing disorder that makes it difficult to deal with everyday sounds. - yiruk's name is an anagram of kiryu, the protagonist of the yakuza games. - chef sunshine's design is a homage to julia child. she originally had a bigger physique, but was changed to match lylia's bubbly performance.

Okay so im back to writing sorry about the wait
Yinu
In her fight it starts off with just her and zuke and mayday just basically dodge her attacks snd counter em not wanting to actually fight a child
Her mother shows up and now they actually have to fight
Thorny vines will try to hit or throw them they try to trap them in bramble patches and they can poison
It doesnt kill but it makes them slower and weaker
At one point mama summons a tree under all of them and lifts em way high in the air
They continue their fight (never actually going for yinu) it gets more agressive and they don’t realize theyre damaging the tree till a massive attack from mama destroys it
They all fall and mayday and zike combine their powers to try and slow everyones fall as much as possible though they still hit the ground hard
Yinu and her mother are confused asvto what id going on before yinu calls out to her and runs to her
They hug like they haven’t seen each other in a long time
The two leave but on their way back are surrounded by security bots
They think theyre here for both of them but they just say they want the runway orphan
This confuses zuke but sees that may has frozen up and looks startled
And that in that fight and fall her bandages have come off (minus the ipper arm one) and her glasses are gone too
Her eyes are like they are in game but her arms and legs that were covered have lichtenburg scars up and down them, with a little bit of pink coloring around the edges (same as her eye color)
And there had been some old wanted posters that they saw throughout the districts of a young girl who looks a lot like mayday now
Zuke doesnt really get to question it as they have to fight the security bots which manage to seperate the two
As zuke tries to fight his way over to may who has bern pushed back to a wall, a set of six hands come out of the wall and grab her, pinning her arms down and making her legs immobile
May is only able to call for zuke before shes yanked through the wall and gone
Zuke has to run since he cant fight the security bots all on his own
When telling kliff what happened he just nonchalantly mentions that it’s the ability of the leader of the next district
Eve
Zuke is actually shocked to learn nadia is here
Since she goes by eve he didnt know it was her
In this the reason is they didnt break up they got seperated when they were escaping from some rather cruel humans
Anyway to mayday
Mayday wakes up to find herself in a completely white area she finds that there is a bandage on the left side of her head thats sore to the touch
“Wh-where the heck-“
“So youre the girl on the wanted posters? Hmm”
Mayday doesnt see eve at all when she looks for her voice
“Hmm i guess it would be rude to talk to you like this”
Eve emerges out of the wall in a swirl of colors
“Apologies for the accommodations but i need to ensure you stay here until tatiana arrives to collect you”
“I am not a damn object to collect!”
“Silence. Any powerful mutant is required to protect everyone else. You will join nsr, as will zuke when he gets here.”
“Im nor gonna- wait. You know zuke?”
“How could i forget the one who abandoned me?”
“Zuke would never-“
“ENOUGH! HOW WOULD YOU KNOW?! WHEN WE HAD FINALLY ESCAPED FROM THOSE DAMNED HUMANS I WAS LEFT BEHIND AND RECAPTURED AND HE NEVER CAME BACK!”
“...there had to be a reason”
“The reason is i was foolish to trust him just because we were in the same situation. Tatiana saved me, i owe her my life, and my loyalty. Be happy you should be powerful enough to run your own district.”
“...why be after zuke if you hate him?”
“Id be foolish to overlook his power, he will simply stay away from me though. And what of you? Why would you run away from a great destiny with nsr?”
“People change ehen they join, in a really weird way-“
“Ha. They change for the better. I did. And you will too. Nsr protects all from humans, even you. I know you hate them. Youd have to what with your arm”
May slaps her hand over the bandage “hey what the- why would you-“
“I did not remove it. It fell off when i brought you here. I put it back on though, inunderstand not wanting to see it. Not wanting such a glaring reminder of humans cruelty.”
Her hand brushes against the bandage on mays head and she winces
“Sorry. There were injuries i had to tend to, and this was something that had to be done.”
Before mayday can answer a sound catches their attention
“Ah company. Ill be back if its tatiana.”
“...and if its zuke?”
“Hmph. I’ll still be back but he’ll be in his own realm. Now i must attend to my company”
Eve then leaves mayday alone in that realm

… are 1010 sentient in your FRAU? And I am guessing people treat them as if they weren’t…. Just when this AU couldn’t get worse/j (keep up with the wonderful work and drink lots of water)
(In canon, how does everyone realize that 1010 are aware?) (just curious)
Yes they are sentient. They, like with OG 1010, gained the basics of sentience before joining NSR, but didn't fully grow into themselves until after joining NSR. Though FRAU 1010 keeps to themselves a lot of the time so many people think they are not as sentient as they are.
Which does go into your next question. Yes. People treat 1010 and other robots like tools/objects since Neon isn't promoting the idea that robots with AI can be just as sentient as humans.
OG Neon from the start of 1010's career was always explaining the intricacies of robotic AI and sentience, but FRAU Neon stayed more in the back. So a lot more people have the same thought process as Martha, thinking that robots are just program and code, and not an ever evolving AI (which technically not EVERY robot has an AI, but quite a few of them do).
And by canon do you mean OG or FRAU canon? In both universes 1010 try to keep up the act of not being sentient because they are afraid of what might happen if people around them found out.
However, OG 1010 ended up letting slip their sentience when they are separated and show interest in things outside of music. Dropping the mask that they are a unit and are actually individuals (Purl being the last to let the mask fall since they were trying their best to keep things the same since they hate change).
For the FRAU, 1010 kept the mask on a lot longer because their environment was not as welcoming and warm. There have been times where their masks slipped (like Red finding a fascination in space and asking DJ questions or Green talking with Yinu about plants) but for the most part people saw 1010 as non-sentient robots.
At least the public sees 1010 as completely non-sentient. Which is where much of the fear of AI comes from, because there is plenty misinformation going around of what AI means. People think it just means faster processing power or a more powerful robot that will follow orders without question and people are afraid of what a powerful robot with no mind/morals and a bunch of weapons/fighting experience will do if pushed.
The Megastars also have a lot of misinformation to go through, but Neon has explained to them some stuff (more in an annoyed way because even when he does explain it feels like no one believes him) so the Megastars do know a bit more of 1010's sentience status.
Tatiana doesn't see them as actually sentient, and just sees them as tools with good responses built into them/some problem solving code.
Eve sees them as sentient but in a way that is not as good as human sentience (which is why she is actually willing to hurt 1010 since they can understand what she is doing, if they couldn't then it would be like yelling at a toaster which would give her no relief).
Neon sees 1010 as fully sentient. Though he has no idea what their true personalities are because they keep it from him. He only sees sides of them that they show. The only ones he really knows are Red and Blue because those two spend the most time with him.
Sayu's crew probably sees them like Sayu, a husk that Neon uses to create music. I can see Remi thinking they have some sentience, but only because he sees Blue and Yellow as annoying for always trying to look over his shoulder when drawing and Neon telling him they are just curios and trying to learn.
DJ and Yinu have seen more of these sparks of sentience from 1010 (even if Yinu doesn't understand what that means). So they do think 1010 have minds of their own (DJ later actually seeing some of 1010's real personalities when helping Neon out with something as an act of goodwill for some reason).
And Mama just straight up refuses to see 1010 as anything more than military grade weapons that can and will hurt people, especially Yinu.

Would racism toward elementals who look clearly different be a large problem in the NSR world? (Mama and DJ sub especially)
Well any kind of racism is a problem. I would probably say it's about the same, maybe a little less, as in our world, so really depends on where you are the level of hate being spewed. Some places are worse than others while some are better.
The MORE different you are the worse it will be even if you are in a more welcoming area. So if we put the characters at the same age, at the same time, in the same area, I would say something like Eve would get some stares, Tatiana/Yinu would get questioned a bunch, Mama would probably get harassed a bit, and Nova would get all that and isolation or something (using this as like a scale, which is probably not the best idea but basically like you would think, the more different you look the more outcasted you will be).
There's also the like more hidden elemental races, which is where I would put Eve and Cyril. They don't SHOW what elements they are from but they do have more naturally occurring powers because of their elemental sides. Once people figure these out they might change because they will see those elementals as having an advantage or something (think how Eve's illusions makes it "easier" for her to make art and Cyril being half siren MUST mean he never trains his voice <sarcasm).
Then there's like more accepted elemental races, things like Tatiana before she blew up her head, Yinu, and Elivy. Their elements are still seen but aren't as obvious as others and their powers aren't really something people would see having an advantage in everyday life (though Yinu and Tatiana could be seen as dangerous because of venom and fire respectively).
So like, yes. Racism can be a pretty big problem, and is definitely something the cast has to deal with at times, especially when the people around them don't know who they are (people might not show their racism and bigotry to famous people, but will to complete strangers). I would say that things have gotten better overall, but it's definitely still a problem because it happens at all.
Probably doesn't happen as much in Vinyl City mainly because it is a diverse city that garners tourists from all over the world, but it will obviously still happen (I can think of stories of Americans being super rude and hating on people in foreign countries because those people don't speak English even though that American is a guest there. So like people coming to Vinyl City for the touristy area and then being a bigot, though I am sure some bigots just live in Vinyl City too, similar to how Zed lives there even though he can't handle loud sounds).
