Character ask game: Loid (or Shopkeeper)

I'll do both!

Loid/Twilight

First impression: Waku WAKU! I genuinely thought he was very cool. His initial face reveal shot is iconic and I genuinely liked his character from the first page.

Impression now: about the same, just add more screaming cat meme because of his childhood and temple massaging because he's an idiot. Still love him dearly! (I am a Loid simp🤣)

Favorite moment: Chapter 58.2 where he and Bond escape a burning building. That shot! *Chef kiss*. Bonus: anytime Loid gets soft as mush around Anya or Yor.

Ideas for a story: gosh I have too many WIPs for this man...

Unpopular opinion: I strongly disagree with the idea that the reveal between him and Yor will be something dramatic/a fight. SxF is a comedy, one that Twilight actively thinks is a thriller. So it would make sense for the reveal (whenever that happens) to be pretty mundane. Not forgettable! But just not filled with pain and angst.

Favorite relationship: im going to give three as a treat since I can't decide. Romantic - TwiYor. Hands down. No other ship tops it. Parental - Loid and Anya, of course! And lastly, Bond and Loid. The bestest boy and his master!

Favorite headcanon: I have a few, but I like the one where Twilight's original name was Rolo. Since most of his identities use the Ro/Lo syllable, it would make sense, and also go along with what his friends say in chapter 62.3.

Shopkeeper

First impression: (ch. 2 doesn't count imo since we just "hear" his voice). This man is Genuinely terrifying.

Impression now: KEEP THIS MAN THE FUCK AWAY FROM LOID FORGER PLS.

Favorite moment: I do like how he explains why he's protecting the survivors of the Gretchen family. It's almost wholesome, even if drenched in murder/mob lingo.

Idea for a story: drawing a blank here. ;_;

Unpopular opinion: Shopkeeper has never been Yor's Paternal figure. That's always been McMahon and I will die on that hill. He's more of her mafia uncle, giving her jobs and will protect (or eliminate) her if needed.

Favorite relationship: none. We haven't seen enough of him, imo

Favorite headcanon: he wears a sheep fleece on his head/on his hat giving him a literal "wolf in sheep's clothing" vibe.

-My level of WAKU WAKU! has dropped a bit re: the ep to ep plot now that the cuteness novelty has worn off, but I’m still enjoying everything very much.

-In any other context, I’d probably root for Fiona, but not here. Not here.

-The stupid thing is, I’d just as readily watch a show of Loid and Fiona spy shenanigans. But the Anya and Yoru context changes everything. Sorry, Fiona.

-Season two, let Yoru be an assassin!

Ok but let me tell you that I will instantly defend German anime dub bc THEY ARE ACTUALLY FUCKING GOOD NOWADAYS

I mean of course, there are some scenes that are better in the Japanese dub but tbh??? I don't care??? it's a few scenes but overall it's fucking good??? Not to mention that nowadays they start to include dumb jokes which you would just never get when the dubbing companies stuck to the original

for instance in the Spy x Family dub, Loid comes home in one episode and yells "Bin da, wer noch!" AND I LOST IT BC IT WAS A FUCKING DINOSAURS REFERENCE I DEF DIDN'T EXPECT TO GET IN AN ANIME And this is just one example, I mean the German Haikyuu dub is fucking GOLD

Not to mention that you can actually feel that they try to find voices that are either close to the original or fit the character.

And don't get me wrong, everyone who prefers the original Japanese dub is absolutely valid, but please for the love of god, don't drag it through the dirt when you wouldn't even give the German dub a try and compare it to the Japanese dub the whole fucking time. Like I saw comments on another Spy x Family clip where people were mad that Anya's "Waku Waku" was translated to "Spannend(Exciting)" and I just???? There is no fucking equivalent to waku waku, what the hell did you thing she'd say in another language???? Just get off your high horse, go on and watch the Japanese dub but just don't be a bitch towards the actual hard work that goes into the German dub for anime

THE ANIME IS FINALLY HERE!!

Here are some of my thoughts on the first episode...! 😁

First off, the animation was amazing and very fluid! I think that Wit and CloverWorks did a fantastic job! 😁 The episode did feel a little fast-paced to me when I first watched it... But of course, I still think that it was very good adaptation of the first chapter!!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ANYA AND TWILIGHT'S VOICES!! 😍

I love the Waku Waku that Anya does and how Twilight sounded when he was like What? 😆 At first, I wasn't a 100% for Twilight's voice when I first heard it in the first trailer, but now I think it's perfect! The only person's voice that I didn't really vibe with was Franky's... 😅 I think it's mostly because when I first saw Franky in the manga, he kind of reminded me of my brother...! Therefore, all I hear when I read the manga is my brother as Franky! 😁 (side note: I usually prefer dubs over subs when I watch anime... But, if the anime is based on a manga that I read first and loved, I will usually judge the voices in both Japanese and English a bit more critically...!)

But, out of everything in the anime, I wish that this scene:

Not only do I think that the original manga panel looks cooler, but I'm also a little upset that the callback to this scene in Mission 62.1 will probably look more like the anime's version when it gets animated...! Which isn't bad, but I just prefer this scene in the manga more...

Honestly, I feel like being a bit too nitpicky about the anime... But, it's only because I love the manga SO MUCH! I think everything they've done so far is great and I can't wait for episode 2 next week! (Which just so happens to be my birthday! YAY! 🎉)

  There was never any doubt that Saori Hayami would get the part as Yor, yet with the addition of the multi-talented Takuya Eguchi as Loid, fans couldn't help but notice how the casting got even more perfect.
