Live Review: Hot Chip at The Warehouse Project in Manchester 03 February 2023
Words: Mark Bowers As a huge fan of Hot Chip for nearly twenty years, the excitement of seeing them for the first time since late 2019 could not be quashed by anything – man nor beast. A train strike? Nah. Overzealous drug spaniel (incorrectly) detaining me on entry because I had a dog treat in my pocket? No sir, tonight I’m going to dance like it’s 1999 and under muted lights I’ll be raving…

✦ Comet ✧: What makes a great musician? Aside from their talent in writing lyrics, singing , or playing guitar. Would it be their ability to turn tales of human suffering and struggles into a piece of art? Or their relatability in general?
Me: When the guitar wants to kill your mom, dad etc.

For many homeowners, the garage is a forgotten about area; it is often misused and neglected. The garage is full of random boxes, the giveaway pile, tins of paint, yard tools, toys, and anything else you just can’t find room for in your home. If you are looking for more living space, the garage may be the perfect answer. Converting your garage into a new living area is a great option for many homeowners, but it also comes with some pros and cons.
Pros of Garage Conversion
There are many reasons why you may need extra space in your home. You could be looking for a home office, spare bedroom, or a fun rec room for the family. Whatever the reason for your plans, closing in your garage could be the answer. Converting your garage can add some space to your home, and that is our first pro.
Added space- One of the best things about closing in your garage is that you can get extra space relatively fast and easily. Adding on an addition or even selling your home and buying a bigger one can be a massive headache. Closing in your garage can give you the added space you need without disrupting the whole house, as most of the mess will be contained in that area.
Cost and Time- When you are looking to add space, an addition is a significant upfront cost. Since your garage is an existing structure in your home, you will be working with an existing foundation and walls. This can cut down on the cost associated with getting your extra space. Your garage can also save you time since some of the work needed has already been done.
Keep your outdoor space- Some homeowners enjoy the amount of yard they currently have. If this is you, then closing in your garage could be an answer. You will not be losing any of your outdoor space or manicured lawn by closing in your garage.
Cons of Garage Conversion
Just like all things, when there are pros to a situation, there are always some cons. Some of the cons we can think of when converting your garage can include loss of storage, could make the home hard to sell, and taxes could be affected.
Losing storage space- If you are currently using your garage to store everything you can’t find space for in your home, you may have to get rid of a few things or get a storage building. This could mean an added expense to your garage conversion. If you use your garage to store your vehicle, you must ensure you have another place to park.
Harder to Sell- While you are looking for more added space in your home, the next buyer may have preferred to have a garage if you ever look to sell. While you may see it as an upgrade, not all buyers will agree with you.
Taxes- In some cities, when you increase the square footage of your home with an addition or a garage conversion, you will have to pay more in taxes. Check with the tax commissioner in your area before starting your conversion to find out how it works in your area.

Do you need more space in your home? Adding a room to your home can give you the extra space you are looking for. The number one question is, how much will it cost. In this article, we will discuss what the cost of a 20×20 room addition would cost to build.
The overall cost will differ between companies and locations that you live in. On average, for an addition that is 20×20 in size, the overall cost that you can expect to pay is $30,000 to $85,000. It will all come down to the particular area and what needs to be done to build it.
Ideas On What To Do With This Space
There are so many options you have when it comes to building additions to your home. Many people are building home offices now that working from home is common. But, there are many other reasons too. Let’s discuss some of the most common ones.
You Need More Bedrooms
Do you have kids sharing a bedroom, and you feel they need a space of their own? Think about adding an addition to your home. This can open up space for you to give that child a place of their own.
Some other reasons that people need more bedrooms are:
Expecting A New Baby
Need Space For A Guest Room
And More
A Space To Workout
Going to the gym is not for everyone, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t enjoy working out. There are many great workouts that you can do from the comfort of your own home. But, you may want a space to dedicate to just that. Do you have the room to make a room into a workout space? No, then maybe you have a good area that is suitable for a room addition.
Have A Growing Hobby
When you have an activity or a hobby that you enjoy, you tend to accumulate a lot of items. As this collection begins to grow, you will end somewhere to put everything. There are many hobbies that people have that generate an income for them. It will make your life a lot less hectic if you have somewhere to contain the items that go along with your hobby.
A Bigger Family Area
When you add a room to your home, it doesn’t always mean you are adding on a bedroom. It could mean expanding your master bedroom, laundry room, kitchen, or family room. If you have a large family, or a growing one, you may need more space for you to all gather in together.
