Assignment Name: Procedural Art to Audio
Tools: Unity, Photoshop
Desc: Visualization of “¿” by Bring Me the Horizon made with code in Unity to made with the highs and lows of the music.
Feedback:  I struggled a bit with this project for most of the steps. Making my sprite was one difficulty as I’m not very good with “feeling” audio or music, so I took a lot of inspiration from watching fractal animations as fun graphic ideas I could make. Also the code was a little tricky to figure out for me, even as someone who works with code a lot, audio is not familiar to me. I separated 4 different frequencies found in the music by bass, near bass, middle sound, and high sound and made different objects move to those beats. Something I wish I could have added or improved upon would be some more particle effects that react to musical triggers.

Description: Generative Vaporwave art based on Ditto by New Jeans(lofi editio)
Feedback: Based on the feedback from class, I made two revisions on the generative art piece. Instead of making everything generative, I handkeyed the stair and the radient line. The stair would only start spinning once the verse come in. I also adjusted the rotation of the stair so that it would not intervene with the ball in the middle. It is now rotating on its own y-axis. The other big change I made is on the radient line on the left side. It will scale up and create the explosion effect at the end enlonged sound of each line in the chorus.

Description: A house on a rainy day. Audio: https://www.chosic.com/download-audio/30403/
Feedback: The soundtrack I chose for this was one I found while browsing around for royalty-free lofi songs. Something I found challenging for this assignment was simply going through all the different options that exist for particle systems, but it was fun to try things out while I was at it. I felt like I was able to convey the vibes I meant to in the end, though perhaps could have thought of more ways to use colour even though this was meant to be a dreary scene.

Title: Procedural Art to Music
Tools: Unity, Photoshop, Huion Kamvas
Description: Procedural Art to "不可解"/"Incomprehensible" by 花譜/KAF
Self-feedback: I think that I have a horrific sense of rhythm and music in general, so I chose a snippet of music that had very distinct notes so that I could follow it. I also made my overall design of the procedural art very clear and sectioned for a similar reason of trying to keep it to rhythm. For the content of the art, I wanted to reflect the tone of the opening of the song which feels like a lament in the night. The lyrics talk about the desire to keep the feelings of the singer, however vague, unchanged in contrast to the actual tone and delivery which feels more desperate. I wanted to capture this contrast as well as the contrast between real life society and digital space which is also a topic in the song. This snippet is from the introduction of the song, so I wanted to allude to those ideas.

Assignment Name: A6 Procedural Art to Audio
Tools: Unity; Adobe XD
Desc: A visualizer that plays alongside a piece of audio
Feedback: The background audio is named "Merry go around" from Howl's moving castle. I picked the middle part of the whole music because it has a stronger beat and feels more emotional with both piano and violin. The most challenging part is to use different particles to represent different beats. I used mainly shining dots and stars to show the piano rhythm and use longer lines to emphasize the audio of the violin that comes after the piano. Since the tone of the audio is kind of joyful, I used bright colors for the particle systems to show the theme. To improve, I wish the dots for the audio of the piano could be more strong since we can feel the beat is really powerful.

Assignment name: Procedural Art to Audio
Tools: Specterr, Clip Studio Paint, Adobe Premiere Pro
Description: An audio visualizer of Mizuki & Caerula Arbor theme music, from Arknights
Self-valuation:
Since this assignment required us to play music that lasts only 10-20 seconds, I chose the audio with a short main melody and a complete melody. I cut out the clip cut so the beginning and end would loop seamlessly. The Triple metre and slightly melancholy yet peaceful melody are calming and soothing. It reminds me of the imagery of the ocean and waves, so I also tried to convey the feeling of waves in the visualization and I drew the blue water as the background as well. I added white light particles in Specterr's particle system, allowing them to float from the bottom up. By editing the color, opacity range, and size range of these particles, they blended more naturally with the background I drew.

Assignment name: Procedural Art to Audio
Tools: Unity, Procreate
Description: An audio visualizer of Dancing Hero (Eat You Up) by Yōko Oginome
Self-valuation: The song Dancing Hero (Eat You Up) (ダンシング・ヒーロー (Eat You Up)) is a Japanese pop song released during the Japanese asset price bubble era in the late 1980s. The song sings about beautiful moonlight “with a strange, indescribable color”(“不思議色の月光”) and the passionate city nightlife under this moonlight. For many, the song is the epitome of the “bubbly economy” (バブル景気) Japan was facing at the time, as people remember the song as something frequently played at night clubs in that era. Today, this song has become a classic nostalgic item reminding people of the lively and energetic Japan in the 80s.
I want to design the visual to present the beautiful image the lyrics describe as well as the meaning it holds. Therefore I designed the visual to present the  “moonlight with a strange, indescribable color” by using a carefully designed color palette of 8 moonlight beams. Each beam of moonlight procedurally generates a certain length according to the audio wave. The moon rotates, resembling the disco ball commonly seen at nightclubs, and reverses the rotation in every measure to create a visual illusion in which the moon's movement is "indescribable". The city under the moon grooves according to the bass beats. A beam of city ground light and some shooting stars appears in the scene when the guitar chord plays, creating a "brighter" image reacting to the "brighter" guitar sound. On the buildings, some generated windows light up in sync with the drum rhythm.
