May i interest you guys in my idea of past dream chasers?
Character portraits (dreamzzz present and from when they were dream chasers)
Tumblr media
Dream world avatars
Tumblr media
Nadine was a normal teenage girl living in Brooklyn. She always had a passion for drawing and painting, her paintings hanging all around her room. Her best friend and neighbour, Austin, loves to read manga and loves his minifigure collection. They both go to school together with their friend Michael. He always seems to bop his head to a tune that can only be heard by him.
One day their science teacher Mr Oswald recruited them, along with one of the rude popular girls Natalie, to train to become dream chasers and protect the dream world if the Nightmare King ever comes back.
When the kids got in highschool they couldnt be dream chasers anymore, as they felt that they have grown up and decided to give away their hour glasses. Of course, they still keep contact with Dr Oz as they still love him.

Cats Dream Cast
alright, i’ve been seeing some others do this, so here’s my Cats Dream Cast!!
Alonzo: Jason Gardiner. His Alonzo just has such an amazing connection with the rest of the cats around him, and how he interacts with everyone else is one of my favorite parts of his acting.
Bombalurina: Christine Cornish Smith. Honestly, I love Rosemarie, but there’s something about Christine’s Bomba that I absolutely adore. I don’t know what it is, I think it’s the way she sings “he’s always wide AWAKE” that just made me fall in love with her.
Bustopher Jones: James Barron
Cassandra: Rebecca Parker. She’s gorgeous, and suave, and just all-around amazing.
Carbucketty: Johnny Randall, and yes, I split the CarbuckettyPouncival into two because I wanted multiple categories.
Coricopat: Jaih Betote!! I LOVE HIM AND HE’S PERFECT AND PRECIOUS AND WONDERFUL AND JUST AN ALL-AROUND WONDERFUL CORICOPAT WHO DESERVES EVERYTHING GOOD IN THE WORLD!!
Demeter: Aeva May. Her Demeter is just such a perfect mix, I adore her voice, and I love all of her background moments. Though Kim is a very close second, becausee I also adore her voice as well!!
Electra: Lili Froehlich. I adore her Electra.
Etcetera: Jo Bingham. I love her, she’s precious, and probably the perfect Etcetera in my opinion.
George: Sharrod Williams. Yes, I spit the GeorgePouncival bit up into two as well because I couldn’t decide. He’s a perfect George.
Grizabella: Mamie Paris as young Grizabella during Jellicle Songs and The Naming of Cats, and Elaine Paige as regular Grizabella for the rest of the show.  Having two Grizabella actresses, I’d also add in a moment during Memory for older Grizabella to see her younger self, probably during Jemima’s solo. There’s more emotion, and a possibility to give a duet between the Grizabellas! (There, I get my two favorite Grizabella actresses in the show, haHA)
Gus: Either Sir John Mills or Sir Ian McKellan. I actually loved Sir Ian McKellan’s performance as Gus, and Sir John Mills is my personal favorite Gus, so I think they’re tied in my opinion for who I’d want play Gus.
Jellylorum: Susan Jean Ford. I absolutely adore her Jellylorum, despite her not being one of my personal favorite characters. Watching Susan’s performance as Jellylorum made me fall in love with her, so I definitely just adore her, and she’s my favorite!
Jemima/Sillabub: Nevada Riley or Veerle Casteleyn!
Jennyanydots: Eloise Kropp. I love her Jenny so much!! She has such an amazing balance between strict and playful, especially during her song, and I love watching her on stage
Mistoffelees: Fergus Logan!!! I love every other Mistoffelees with all my heart, but Fergus’ attitude as Mistoffelees just embodies Mistoffelees’ aloofness, and I just adore him so much!
Munkustrap: Michael Gruber is my first choice and always will be, personally. I just absolutely love his Munkustrap to death, but close seconds are Dan Hoy and Jack Rebaldi!
Mungojerrie: Drew Varley or Danny Collins. Personally, I believe that they both play a bit of a jaded Mungojerrie (obviously Danny does, since Jerrie’s a henchcat in the movie), but a jaded Mungojerrie who can still have fun and relax with his family, and I love that angsty take on him. Their voices are both IMMACULATE, and I adore the accents.
Old Deuteronomy: Ken Page, absolutely, 100%. He is the Ultimate Deut.
Plato/Macavity: Oh, Daniel Gaymon 100%. His Macavity was absolutely incredible (that costume??? AMAZING), and I love just how he put his own spin on Macavity. His Plato was amazing, and so sweet, and such a 180 from Macavity that it perfectly helped you to be able to tell the difference, and you couldn’t even tell it was the same person playing them.
Pouncival: Karl Morgan, because it’s Karl.
Rum Tum Tugger: John Partridge, of course! His Tugger is my absolute favorite, and the way he reacts to moments in the show, to other cats (Grizabella, Mistoffelees, Old Deut), and his VOICE are all just perfection. Though, I’d also definitely pick Gabriel de Cervantes, if ONLY for the Tarzan moment and his little giggles throughout the song. His Tugger’s an absolute delight to watch, I can’t stop smiling whenever I watch the video of his performance. He just has so much fun, he’s a peak-himbo Tugger, and we love to see it.
Rumpleteazer: Naoimh Morgan. Her voice is incredible, the way she plays Rumpleteazer is awesome (both on stage and in the movie). I love all the other Teazers dearly, but I think Naoimh would probably have to be my #1.
Skimbleshanks: Steven McRae! His Skimbleshanks was *chef’s kiss* amazing, so I’d love to see him on a stage as Skimbleshanks for a longer period of time interacting with everyone!
Tantomile: Femi Taylor. I absolutely adore her, plus paired with the way that Jaih portrays Coricopat (in the 2019 movie at least), I think would make for an absolutely adorable big sister/little brother dynamic that we don’t normally see with Coricopat and Tantomile because they’re known as the psychic twins.
Tumblebrutus: My absolute FAVORITE BOY MUKENI NEL!!! NO EXPLANATION NEEDED THAT’S WHO WOULD BE TUMBLE GOODBYEEEEEE
Victoria: Mamiko Yaesawa or Georgina Pazcoguin. I think that Mamiko is just such a sweet Victoria, and I love Georgina’s interactions with Daniel, so they’re definitely tied.

Sander Sides Virgil Afton AU ‘Virgil’s Secret’ ~Chapter 1~
*Third-Person POV*
It was the middle of the day and all of the sides and Thomas were chilling out and talking. Patton was in the kitchen Baking some cookies with some help from Logan, Roman was in the living room with Thomas, Remus and Janus were playing with Janus' pet snakes, and Virgil was in his room listening to music, as usual. Until there was a knock at the door. Thomas got up and opened the door and standing there was a man with Dark brown hair that faded to a purple and went down and tied into a small ponytail a little past his shoulders, and a little stubble on his chin. He was wearing a purple Security Uniform and a black tie. "Um, Hey do you need anything" Thomas asked. "Um yes, our car broke down and I was wondering if me and my family could stay here until we get our car fixed".  The man moved out of the door frame to reveal a wife and 3 kids behind him, the wife and the daughter had long red hair and bright emerald green eyes. and then there were 2 boys one looked really young and the other a older teen they both had short brown hair and the older one had Dark purple at the tips and an eye patch covering his left eye. "Sure come on in it looks like its about to rain anyways", Thomas said as he looked out the door and noticed some dark clouds rolling in. Roman was now sitting on the couch watching a Disney movie while also trying to pay attention to Thomas and the Family. "I'm Thomas and this is Roman", Thomas said as he pointed at himself and The fanciful side sitting on the couch. "Its nice to meet you I'm William and that's my Wife Clara and my 3 kids Michaels the oldest then Elizabeth and then my youngest Chris", He said as he pointed at each member of his family. "Hang on let me go get the others", Thomas said as he ran into the kitchen and then upstairs. After a couple minutes 2 people came out of the Kitchen and 3 more people came down from upstairs.
*Roman's POV*
I was talking with Clara when Patton and Logan came out of the kitchen and Thomas came back from upstairs with Janus with Remus swung over his shoulder and Virgil not falling to far behind. "And this is Patton, Logan, Janus, Remus, and Virgil.", Thomas finished. "Hello Kiddos!", Patton said Causing the 2 youngest kids to smile. "Salutations.", Logan said in his normal monotoned voice, making Michael snicker a little. "Hi", Remus said lifting his head up a little bit from Janus' back, Causing Chris and Liz to start laughing and Clara and Michael to stifle a little laugh, and William to chuckle at the twos antics. "Pleasure to meet you all", Janus said with a smirk acting as if he didn't have the duke of creativity thrown over his shoulder. "Sup", the emo nightmare said as he slowly made his way downstairs. I am pretty sure that everyone noticed how he and the family  except for Chris and Elizabeth seemed to freeze in place, wide-eyed. that was until William broke the silence. "T-Terrance.....". at first I didn't know who he was talking to. that was until I saw The Emo Nightmare  jump up and run over to them and hug them. I saw William, Clara, and Michael do the same thing and Chris and Elizabeth looked Kinda confused. I could tell that they were crying, but I don't know why. It was so quiet until Virgil broke the silence. "Just call me Virgil ok?". "Ok", William said as Michael and Clara nodded their heads. Clara was still holding onto Virge and we were all pretty confused. "Is it really you my baby boy?", Clara said in a whisper but just loud enough for everyone to hear. and I cant believe that I am hearing this correctly. everyone in the room went silent Wide-eyed and completely thrown off guard. "Y-Yeah its me". "Um mom who is that?", Liz asked. "Kids meet your Older brother", William said with tears threatening to fall from the corners of his eyes. I feel like my heart just skipped a beat, not only because this is literally Virgil's family and the fact that his real name is Terrance, but the Fact that the Emo Nightmare Smiled! I would be lying to say that I probably wasn't a Blushing mess.
*Time Skip*
*Third-Person POV*
Thomas showed The Afton's to their rooms. Chris and Elizabeth were sharing a room, Michael had his own room, and William and Clara shared a room but had separate beds. everyone already knew that Him and Clara were divorced. for the rest of the evening Michael stayed with Virgil In his bedroom and they were catching up on all the stuff that happened, Michael told Virgil that they were all dead and possessed animatronics and about Ennard. Virgil told Michael how he had been talking to Henry for a while and how he ended up possessing Lolbit. They stayed like that until Patton called them down for supper. They all ate and then went to their rooms and put on some comfy clothes since Roman wanted them all to have a Movie night with the Afton's. they all went downstairs and Virgil was already sitting in the corner of the couch, snuggled up in his big purple and black blanket with more blankets laid all over the couch for everyone else, Roman was sitting on the floor looking through the movies, Patton and Logan were in the kitchen making popcorn, Remus and Janus were laying down pillows and blankets on the floor for anyone who wanted to sit down on the floor especially since they had more people there than usual. Just then Thomas walked in with 2 other people from the hallway in the kitchen, one had Dark brown hair that faded into a darker brown at the ends and sunglasses with a Starbucks in his hand, the other one had dark dirty blonde hair Kinda like Patton but instead the ends were light pink instead of light blue he also had on a pair of black rimmed glasses similar to Logan's. Thomas looked over to the family and saw the small family already sitting down, Clara and William were sitting on the couch next to Virgil and Michael, Chris, and Lizzy were on the floor with Janus and Remus covered in blankets. "I don't think you have met these 2 before, anyways this is Remy and this is Emile", Thomas said as he pointed at each of them. "Hi", said Emile, "what's up Babes", said Remy. the family looked at him confused, "Don't worry Remy usually calls everyone Babe", Virgil explained as the family just nodded.
They both sat down on the opposite side from Janus, Remus and the kids and snuggled up next to each other as Pat and Lo came into the room with multiple bowls of popcorn for everyone. Roman finally found a movie and popped the disc into the DVD player as Patt and Lo were passing out the Popcorn. Finally everyone was sitting down and cuddling each other, Remy and Emile were cuddling, so was Logan and Patton, and Janus and Remus, William and Clara (even tho they are divorced they are still allowed to cuddle), and Roman was sitting on the other side of Virgil and was now cuddling each other and Michael, Chris, and Lizzy were cuddling each other. The Night Continued like that, everyone cuddling with each other and watching movies. They all decided to go to bed after watching 'Cinderella'. everyone went to their rooms and went to sleep

#8 Boy-Crazy Stacey: Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Here we go with chapter 1! Check it all out under the cut:
We open with Stacey asking her mom how she's supposed to behave in a MANSION. She's concerned, as she remembers how they helped Kristy give her dog Louie a makeover so he would fit in with the wealthy dogs (which apparently happened in #7 Claudia and Mean Janine...I don't remember that part but I also haven’t read that one in years). Stacey's mom (who’s got it going on) tells her that Kristy is nuts sometimes gets carried away, but she'll always be a dictatorial bitch with a Napoleon complex the same. She then reminds Stacey to be careful about what she eats. Stacey gives her an *eyeroll*, as this is when her parents were still in paranoia mode regarding her diabeetus.
Being that this is an early book, Stacey starts in with the Chapter 2 crap now, when she describes the BSC and all the members. I love how the first few books were in real time and the events are all perfectly sequential. Elizabeth and Watson the Millionaire are newlyweds, the BSC held a play group last month, and they're now going on vacation (separately!) before starting 8th grade for the first of 910 times. Whatever went wrong along the way?
Stacey runs to her bedroom and tries to decide what to wear. She's looking for casual, yet sophisticated, “to look impressive in case any rich neighbors dropped by.” I'm guessing “sultry” is thrown in as well, so she can show off in front of Sam. Was anyone else weirded out by Stacey and Sam being an on-again, off-again couple? I forget if Kristy ever made any mention that she was grossed out by her friend dating her older brother.
Anyway, I wouldn't call the outfit she decides on "sophisticated," even though she says she bought the pink shirt in NYC:
“Big, bright green and yellow birds were splashed all over it. It was gigantic, so it would be cool. I put it on with a pair of baggy shorts, looped a wide green belt around my middle, and hunted up some jewelry - silver bangle bracelets and a pair of silver earrings shaped like bells that actually ring when they dangle back and forth.”
*Checks date of publication* 1987. Mind you, I was barely a year old when this book was written, but even going on what I know about 80s fashion, I am not getting a sophisticated vibe from Stacey's ensemble. More like "I'm going to the mall in August!" or "I'm on vacation in Disney World and it's luau time!"
Stacey whines a bit about how her parents won't let her get two holes pierced in each ear (they say it'll make her look like a pirate), then a car horn beeps outside. Mr. Kishi is driving Stacey, Mary Anne, and Claudia to Kristy's! Unfortunately, we're spared the details of Claudia's outfit.
Stacey runs downstairs to meet them, but her mom stops her to present her with some apple slices. Oh come on, Maureen. Stacey already said Kristy would have some diabetes-approved food for her! She also describes her diabetes and uses the word "kerflooey" to describe what would happen to her blood sugar if she ate a single jelly bean (and not one of those yucky sugar-free kinds).
Stacey's dad (who’s also got it going on, I guess) is outside gardening, so this is obviously pre-divorce. And do the Stoneybrook dads have any other hobbies besides gardening? Well, I guess John Pike has baby-making. Ed waves goodbye and warns his daughter to be careful. Stacey mentally *eyerolls* again, and reassures herself that they aren't as bad as they used to be. And I think he added the "be careful" in there as a reminder in case she gets near Sam, if you know what I mean. Safety first!
They arrive at the MANSION, and everyone is in awe. Because, you know, it's a real, live MANSION! And they're brought back to reality when they see Kristy hanging out front, in shorts and a t-shirt, eating a Popsicle and reading People. It's a crazy concept, but yes, girls: "normal" people do live in MANSIONS. And People? I could see Stacey or Claudia reading that. Something like Sports Illustrated would be more Kristy’s thing.
Dawn arrives, and the girls head upstairs, with Stacey marveling at how big the MANSION is. She compares it to her apartment in NYC, which was considered big because it had four bedrooms, though Stacey doesn't seem convinced that's big. Um, a four-bedroom apartment in NYC? That's fucking HUGE. And if the McGills could afford an apartment that big, I think Watson the Millionaire has some competition...
They get to Kristy's room and Stacey asks Kristy where her brothers are. Clever way of disguising your interest in knowing where Sam is, Stacey! Unfortunately, getting to third base will have to wait, as Kristy says Sam and Charlie are at their neighbor's house, using the pool. Kristy adds that she and her mom made a ton of sandwiches for dinner, including some plain tuna fish ones for Stacey. What's wrong with the others if Stacey can't have them? Are they chocolate frosting and peanut butter M&M sandwiches? Actually, that sounds like a Claudia creation.
Stacey says she and Mary Anne are spending the next two weeks together and she's nervous about it. Mind, meet gutter. No, they're going to be joining the Pike Army for two weeks as mother's helpers, and Stacey's nervous because they're oh-so different. Stacey brags about her sophistication and "couple of boyfriends," while calling Mary Anne young (you two are the same age! Geez!) with no interest in boys (this is obviously pre-Logan). Well, aren't you so worldy and grown-up, Miss McGill! Do you want to join me for cocktails later?
The other girls express their envy at spending two weeks at the beach; I laugh because Stacey says they'll be chasing after the Pike kids and lists them, including everyone's favorite red-headed, glasses-wearing dweeb. Oh, the days when Mallory was still a babysitting charge. No wonder they still kind of look down on her.
Also, are the Pikes paying for Stacey and Mary Anne to come along, therefore giving them a free vacation apart from the babysitting? If so, pretty sweet deal, even if it means having to endure Mallory for two weeks. Like I asked before, how loaded are the Pikes?
And if anyone cares, Dawn and Jeff are going to California to visit their dad (leaving Sharon alone to throw the pot party to end all pot parties), and Claudia's going with her family to a mountain resort in New Hampshire. Elizabeth and Watson the Millionaire, however, want to get some family bonding time in with everyone, so they're staying in Stoneybrook. More like Watson the Millionaire's a cheapass, so they're staying in Stoneybrook.
Elizabeth brings the sandwiches and some sodas to Kristy's room and the girls scarf down their dinner. Stacey later tries on some of Kristy's clip-on earrings to see how she'd look with extra piercings, and I'm left wondering what the hell Kristy Thomas is doing with clip-on earrings.
Later, Mary Anne gets a Great Idea (don't tell Kri-, oh wait) for everyone to exchange addresses so they can send postcards. Then Kristy tops that idea with one of her own. She asks Stacey and Mary Anne on penalty of death to write her daily postcards as notebook entries so they can keep the BSC notebook up-to-date. Creepy. And what a wonderful way to waste a ton of stamps! Dawn says she might babysit for her old clients while in California, so she'll send some notebook entries too. Um, WHY?!? Does the BSC honestly give a shit about Stephie, or Clover and Daffodil?
David Michael calls up to them that everyone's parents have arrived. Then Kristy starts to cry, followed by everyone else. So not only is Kristy crying, she's the first one, even before Mary Anne, who cries at everything. WHAT?!? I have a feeling the moon isn't in the seventh house, and Jupiter is not aligning with Mars here. The girls sob into tissues and hug because they're going to be separated for OMG two whole weeks! Geez, the way they're carrying on, you'd think they were going to be apart for two years and heading to opposite ends of the earth. Drama queens. The girls head home and Stacey's still all emo about being separated from everyone for two whole weeks until she looks at her new bikini, which makes her think of the beach and cute boys and she gets excited. Of course she would.

DualShockers’ Favorite Games of 2019 — Scott’s Top 10
December 27, 2019 2:00 PM EST
2019 for me was filled with tons of games from different genres, and even though it was hard to pick 10, here are my favorites from 2019.
As 2019 comes to a close, DualShockers and our staff are reflecting on this year’s batch of games and what were their personal highlights within the last year. Unlike the official Game of the Year 2019 awards for DualShockers, there are little-to-no-rules on our individual Top 10 posts. For instance, any game — not just 2019 releases — can be considered.
Greetings and glad tidings, Shockerians? DualShockese? Sorry, I’m new, but yes it is the time of the year once again to share with the internet the video games that left a particularly large imprint on us throughout the past 365 days. My name is Scott White, and let my list be my humble debut on this fantastic site and introduction to you fine readers.
2019 treated audiences to titles that have been long desired, from Kingdom Hearts 3, Death Stranding, and of course, the Resident Evil 2 remake. The time between these behemoths was filled with other stellar titles from indie studios to large developers, rounding out the year and making it one with far too many games and myself with far too little free time for them all. However: I did play a bunch, so let me tell you about some of them!
As a brief note for readers: the first nine games I will list are in no particular order, but the final entry on this list will be my favorite of the year and noted as such.
Forager
What was a random suggestion on my Steam page turned into my go-to chill game of the year. With a bright and vivid cartoon pixel art style, Forager crafted its way into my heart. I found something incredibly peaceful and rewarding as I bought up the various islands faster than a land baron who struck oil, and worked to create my autonomous empire. With my army of drones collecting precious ore and gems, while my furnaces burned non-stop crafting new items, I could sit back and admire my work.
With the inclusion of many other indie darlings that you can dress your character up as (Shovel Knight, baby!) and flow of constant updates and additions from the single-man development team, Forager is a game that I keep coming back to, being charmed all the while.
Katana Zero
I have to say, I wasn’t expecting a dark narrative dealing with such heavy topics as PTSD, drug addiction, or child soldiers when I started playing Katana Zero. My sight zeroed *wink wink nudge* in on this game after watching the trailers with the neon visuals, the samurai who deflects bullets and mows down enemies, and the time-warping mechanic. What I ended up getting was so much more, and made me fall in love with this game.
Check out DualShockers‘ review for Katana Zero.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Yes, it’s an older game, but FighterZ has still been one of the games I’ve had the most fun with in 2019. With the drops of some of my friends and I’s favorite characters, my usual crew of friends were hopping into the lobbies and hurling beams at one another more than ever. With the recent release of the final Season 2 character with Dragon Ball Super’s Broly, there’s still no word on a Season 3 of new characters. You can count on it though, that if we do get another round of characters, there is a good chance you will see Dragon Ball FighterZ on my list next year, too.
Check out DualShockers‘ review for Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of An Elusive Age — Definitive Edition
Fact: Dragon Quest XI was one of my favorite games of 2018. Also fact, Dragon Quest XI S easily adds enough content and goodies to warrant being included on my list for 2019 too. With the addition of the orchestral track, new outfits, and a new game with the 2D version of XI included with all of its unique content, I gladly jumped back into the role of The Luminary. Any fans of RPGs and that own a Switch need to get this game.

Daemon X Machina
As a longtime fan of From Software’s non-Soulsborne franchise, Armored Core, the lack of complex mech customization action titles as of late left me rabid for this game when it got announced. Fast-forward a couple of demos and a release later, Daemon X Machina fills the void left by AC’s disappearance this generation. The tense combat mixed with a visual style that separates it from the pack is just *chef’s kiss* muah. The added fact that I can now run around as Geralt of Rivia in a giant robot is just icing on the cake.

Resident Evil 2
Growing up, the Resident Evil series was always one that I wanted to play, as the lore and concept behind it was so intriguing to me. Alas though, it contained a foe scarier than Mr. X and more crushing than Nemesis: the dreaded “tank controls.” The releases of the remasters had solved this dilemma of mine with Resident Evil 0 and the first game, and with the RE2 remake release, I got to finally experience Leon and Claire’s origin.
This game should be placed on a pedestal with a beacon shining on it that never gets extinguished as an example of how remakes should be done. By everyone. Forever. It is simply a suburb horror title that nailed this vibe. The first time I was being chased by Mr. X remains the most nerve-wracking horror experience of 2019 for me. Bravo Capcom, bravo.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
With magical whip in hand, I ventured forward into the night, vanquishing all manner of demonkind, skewering myself in the chest along the way to absorb the abilities of my foes. In a similar vein as Daemon X Machina scratched my mech itch, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night gloriously scratched my Symphony of the Night itch. Plus, David Hayter is a demon-slaying samurai, so that instantly gives it +120 bonus points.

Kingdom Hearts 3
In the convening years between the releases of Kingdom Hearts 2 in 2006 and Kingdom Hearts 3 this year, I evolved from a senior in high school who had no idea what he was doing, to a full-fledged adult…who has no idea what he is doing AND paying rent! What a decade it’s been.
I may have grown out of the raging hormones and living with my parents, but it turns out I have not grown out of the wide-eyed reaction to seeing Keyblades, Heartless, and Sora+Donald+Goofy Co. teaming up and vanquishing evil with the power of friendship and deus ex machina. It’s far from a perfect game, or even a perfect Kingdom Hearts game, but when a game makes me tear up from the title screen, there’s no way I couldn’t include it on my list. I love this game, this series, and all the craziness that comes with them. I can’t wait to see what lore-f***ery comes with the upcoming Re:Mind DLC in January.

Randomizers
Not relegated to a single game, but more a family of fan mods, this year saw me really dive into retro game randomizers. These nifty mods mix all sorts of stuff up inside a game–chest contents in Zelda as an example–to create new experiences in each playthrough. Whether it was having Kent in Fire Emblem rocking as Bard or Yoshi being King of Figaro with his twin brother Master Chief in Final Fantasy 6, these mods stole a lot of my time this year.
My Favorite Game(s) of the Year: Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 1-3
Spending more than 250 hours with a cast of characters, experiencing their world, their struggles and triumphs this year, I’ve found myself completely enraptured by this series of RPGs. Imagine the materia system from Final Fantasy VII, the social bonding and links from the later Persona titles, and blend them together with a constantly expanding narrative, and you have Trails of Cold Steel.
I felt I had to include these games as a single entity on my list. So many moments of these games left me aghast; they lifted my spirits with hope and pained my heart with loss. This is a series that needs to be experienced by more people. I can only hope that 2020 will see the localization of the end of this saga with Cold Steel 4.

Ten Superheroes and Their Definitive Actors
We all have our favorite superheroes that have appeared on both TV and cinema and asked if they were real, we’d identify them with a face, and it would be that of the actor that portrayed them. For some of us who have lived longer than others, we’d probably think of faces the current generation doesn’t know of so this list will be limited to our heroes’ cinematic outings. But even then an entry or two would be from an older era. These roles have made or broken some actors but what matters is, that they brought the role to life and we couldn’t think of anyone else more suited. If only they didn’t age, right? Superman – Richard Donner’s Superman starring Christopher Reeve was a groundbreaking superhero film. The choice of Christopher Reeve as Superman was perfect. Reeve had the looks and the build to support the role. He wore the bright, red, blue and yellow costume without looking silly even by today’s standards. He also had a certain charm and charisma that embodied DC’s flagship hero. And though several actors have played the role on film and TV, many people still identify the late Christopher Reeve as the definitive Superman. Wonder Woman – the character had been waiting for so long for a cinematic outing. Whether Warner Brothers and DC were afraid a female-led film wouldn’t work, or Batman just makes a lot more money. But the world was greeted with surprise when Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot turned out to be such a great film. It’s now being compared to Richard Donner’s Superman film, and Gal Gadot is now being billed as the definitive Wonder Woman. Though she first appeared in Batman V Superman, the film’s reception has been disappointing that Gal Gadot’s appearance became muted but many agree that it was one of the best parts of the film. The DC Trinity is finally complete in cinematic form, and hopefully, she’s handled carefully in Justice League and in the Wonder Woman sequel to really cement Gal Gadot’s face to the character, replacing the lovely Lynda Carter who has as the face of the iconic female hero. Batman – Now this is a tough one. In deference to the recently departed Adam West, he just wasn’t well-known as the cinematic Batman even though the TV series had a cinematic special called Batman The Movie. Two actors actually fit the bill and there have been many since Batman was made into the superhero equivalent of James Bond surrounded by much hype as who will play the iconic hero as well as the villain of the year. Michael Keaton is credited into propelling the character to great heights in cinema thanks to director Tim Burton. Michael Keaton has brought the character out of darkness or rather back into it through the film simply titled Batman in 1989. Keaton played the role again in Batman Returns. The two subsequent films weren’t as well received as the first two and changing directors as well as lead actors aren’t well received back then as it is now. This franchise died taking the early superhero genre along with it in the disastrous Batman and Robin. Keaton had the seriousness it took despite doubts being a comedic actor. He had the looks and the build though Batman also popularized the rubber muscle trend. The quirky directing also worked plus the darker tone, the awesome costume and the awesome Batmobile and Batwing made this film very memorable, placing Keaton in an enviable role as the face of Batman. Though some fans would dispute this as the new Dark Knight Trilogy by Christopher Nolan, starring Christian Bale revitalized the popularity of the character in cinema. Not to mention Bale playing the character throughout the trilogy. The best film of the trilogy, The Dark Knight, was well received, thanks to a great plot, direction and acting with an awesome performance by the late Heath Ledger as the Joker who might as well have taken over Jack Nicholson as the face of Batman’s best villain. Iron Man – It’s very difficult to think of anyone else playing Iron Man than Robert Downey Jr. You could say that he was born for the role; and like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, he has been playing the role since forever or more than a decade since the MCU franchise began. RDJ has the looks, RDJ has the build and RDJ has the snark of the character to a T. Robert Downey Jr. also shares some of the character’s own personal battles with alcoholism and thanks to the Iron Man film last 2008, RDJ’s career is at an all-time high. He has the majority of the MCU films under his belt, so it will be difficult to forget him as the definitive Iron Man. Spider-Man – This is another tough one, but there’s still no doubt that the majority still identifies Tobey McGuire as Spider-Man. McGuire has three films under his belt, and two of them were spectacular (pun intended). Spider-Man 3 is seen as a troubled sibling, but it’s not that bad. Some critics say though that Director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy was too dramatic. What we have to remember though is that Marvel’s heroes are often thrust with real-world problems much like everyone else. They have to deal with problems regarding nerdity, love, responsibilities, and finances all of which are depicted nicely in the films. Tobey may now be memed for his role, but those serve to remind us that he’s still Spider-Man and not the other guy with the weird hair. Whether we’ll be singing a different tune after Spider-Man: Homecoming remains to be seen as Tom Holland seemed to have a handle on Spider-Man in the few minutes he was in Captain America: Civil War. Personally, Marisa Tomei nails it as the face of Aunt May but Rosemary Harris nails it too if we stick through the comics and the Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends cartoon. Captain America – Captain America has been around for a long, long time like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. But unlike Wonder Woman, he had several cinematic outings before Captain America: The First Avenger. First, there was Matt Salinger in that lackluster 90s film, and there were those TV movies starring Reb Brown, but they were forgettable, low-budget and lackluster not to mention strayed too far from the source material. Actor Chris Evans certainly has the looks and the build to star as the Star-Spangled Man with a Plan. He also has the talent as he delivers his archaic period lines and attitude on the big screen. To further emphasize, Evans might as well be the face of the Human Torch as he played the Fantastic Four’s rambunctious Johnny Storm quite well. Seriously, these guys and the talk about their contracts. They need to be cloned. Wolverine – Hugh Jackman would probably be stuck down under as a great actor in that part of the world if it wasn’t for Ol’ Canucklehead. Hugh Jackman isn’t exactly well known for his other films, Pan being the worst. And imagine if Bob Hoskins got the role because Wolverine calls for a short, stocky guy? Lucky for us, Jackman got the part, and the height thing was thrown out the window. Unfortunately, Logan is the last we’ll see of him as Wolverine and Logan, being a great film compared to the other X-titles, is a great way of coming out on top. Professor X – speaking of another hero we won’t be seeing again; Patrick Stewart has also called it quits after Logan. His role in the film was perhaps his greatest and most effing tragic. We’ve known him as Professor X from the beginning of the film franchise and upon knowing there was going to be an X-Men film, the first person fans may have thought of is Patrick Stewart. Yes, because he’s old and bald but he’s also a great actor. Debate still rages in the Trek world if he’s better at being captain of the Enterprise than William Shatner. Again, Patrick Stewart pulls off the looks quite nicely and delivers his lines effectively. The role of Professor X has now been passed on to James McAvoy, but for most of us, Professor Xavier’s cinematic face will be Patrick Stewart. Nick Fury – Samuel L. Jackson has influenced the character of Nick Fury even before he took the cinematic role. Sounds like a Chuck Norris meme but it’s true. Samuel L. Jackson was the face of Nick Fury in Marvel’s Ultimate universe. That’s how great his appeal is. That is the very reason he secured the role of Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man 1. ‘Okay, you can use my mother$%#ng face, but I gotta be in your mother$%#ng films!’ He nails the role through sheer talent, and he doesn’t have to worry about his looks straying from the source material. He is the source material. What was that? The Hoff was first? The point is? Blade – Not many actually thought of Blade as a comic book superhero, but everyone knew that Wesley Snipes nailed the stake right through the heart, at least for the first two films. Good Lord, Trinity… Anyway, there hasn’t been any mention of Blade in other media apart from an appearance in the 90s Spider-Man cartoon. The first guy for the role is often the best especially if the film was great, just like Christopher Reeve and unlike Ben Affleck in Daredevil. Wesley Snipes was perfect for the film with his looks and his action cred. His acting is okay, but the film pulls through on his badass appearance and action alone. The Snipes look carries through the Blade anime TV series and recent comic books. Now Snipes may be the face of Blade, but is a reboot with him recast in the MCU a good idea? Honorable Mentions Deadpool – Ryan Reynolds had his chance at being the Green Lantern. It’s not that he blew it, there were other factors at play. But he did nail Deadpool, and he’s more attuned to his character due to his own method of acting. He also has the looks and build though his good looks need to be tinkered to look like an oversexed avocado. Ryan Reynolds is the only face for Deadpool right now, and we give it to him unless Fox screws up the next film. He’s actually been Deadpool twice with the first in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He was great in the first act, and comic book fans immediately knew he was the Merc with a Mouth. The last act where they sewed that mouth shut was probably what killed the movie for a lot of fans. Hulk – There has already been five cinematic Hulks. Bill Bixby, Lou Ferrigno, Eric Bana, Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo. We count Lou as he played the actual Hulk opposite Bill Bixby’s David Banner (yes, not Bruce). Bana and Norton played the character once, if we’re going to base this on number of appearances but Bill, Lou and Mark have played it several times already. Unfortunately, Bill and Lou don’t count as the film The Trial of the Incredible Hulk was made for TV. To be fair, Edward Norton had the better and full cinematic appearance as Bruce Banner than Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk has yet to star in a solo film. But Mark has been in the game since Avengers and is set to appear in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. Edward probably owns this one until Hulk is better defined in the upcoming films. What do you think?
