I was back at work today, so I didn't get as much writing done. I did figure out my first chapter, though, and today's excerpt comes from there.

Tomorrow I want to take my laptop and sit in the living room to write while I watch the episode. It's been a long time since I've done that!

Shock and denial rolled through the Doctor. The setting was one he instantly recognised. The red grass, orange sky, and silver-leafed trees were unmistakeable. 

It wasn’t the fact that a painting of Gallifrey had somehow made it into the possession of Elizabeth I that shook him, though. It was the style of artwork. As if in a daze, he raised his hand to touch the painting, shuddering when his hand moved into the 3D image itself.

“That’s impossible,” he whispered.

The words were echoed by Rose, and he shook himself out of his shock enough to explain it to her. “It’s Time Lord art,” he said, feeling as if he were listening to himself talk from a distance. “A slice of real time, frozen.” 

She shook her head. “I know. You told me about it last year, remember?”

He did, now that she mentioned it. “Then why…” 

Rose swallowed. “Because I made it.”
