"Okay, let's do this," Eddie says, sitting pointedly in front of Buck, his determined 'talk now and don't bullshit me' face firmly on, even as he pushes an open beer bottle into Buck's hand.
Buck blinks, a little startled (though somewhere in the back of his mind, he knows what this is, knows it was going to happen sooner or later). "Do? Do what?"
Eddie snorts, unimpressed, and raises an eyebrow. "You and I are going to talk about what exactly has been going through your head lately." He points at Buck with his own bottle. "Especially with regards to this whole donor business."
So, yeah, it really is going to be that. Alright. Dammit. Buck shrugs, takes a sip from his beer mostly to stall. "What do you want me to say, Eddie? A friend asked for a favour, I said yes. Not that big a deal."
"Not that big-" Eddie starts, sounding both incredulous and offended, for some reason. "Buck."
And Buck can tell Eddie's trying to catch his gaze, but. It's. This is why I didn't want to tell him. He would have known how to talk me out of it. Because Eddie has this way of making Buck see things from different perspectives just with a few well-placed, well-meaning words and his soft, soft voice, and Buck… Buck didn't want to be talked out of this. Not when it means he gets to help someone and that, after everything, here's going to be a piece of him that will be loved and cherished and taken care of in a way that he's always craved for himself.
"It's already done, Eddie," he says, cutting off whatever Eddie was planning on continuing with. "I made the donation. They're going in for the procedure in a couple of days."
There's something tense about Eddie's shoulders when Buck finally looks at him, something like ill-disguised hurt in his eyes and in the twist of his lips, but in the end, Eddie just lets out a long, shaky breath, and closes his eyes. "Okay. I just." He pauses. Shakes his head. Meets Buck's gaze. "I just hope you won't just end up hurting again."
And if that hits too close to home, Buck ignores it and takes another pull of his beer. "It's just a favour for a friend, Eds. I'm doing a good thing."
