EAST OF EDEN (1955)
Director: Elia Kazan
Genre: Drama
Year: 1955
Running time: 115 minutes
Territory: International
Studio: Warner
Cast: James Dean, Raymond Massey, Julie Harris, Jo Van Fleet
Tumblr media
Based on John Steinbeck's novel and directed by Elia Kazan, 1955's East of Eden is the first of three major films that make up James Dean's movie legacy.
In East of Eden, the 24-year-old idol-to-be plays Cal, a wayward Salinas Valley youth who, along with his competitive brother Aron (Richard Davalos), vies for the affection of his hardened father (Raymond Massey), making for a tragic Cain and Abel story.
Playing off the haunting sensitivity of Julie Harris, Dean's performance earned one of the film's four Academy Award nominations, which included stellar performances throughout, including that of Jo Van Fleet who won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actress.

September 15, 1954
On the set of the most cult scene in American cinema, see the world, where Marilyn won the title of the most famous actress in the world. Between 51 and 52nd Street, at the intersection of Lexington Avenue, New York City, this is a mythical scene, one of the most famous in the history of cinema, which remains undoubtedly the "most seen in the world", the one in which Marilyn's white dress is lifted by the air from a metro gate. The press referred to it as "the most interesting exhibition since Lady Godiva."
On the evening of September 14, 1954, police put up wooden barriers in front of the "Trans-Lux Theater" at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 52nd Street. The advertising department of the studios had not missed the opportunity to alert the press by communicating the exact location of the shooting and ensuring that traffic would be blocked. Around one in the morning (therefore on September 15, 1954), when the shooting was to begin, several hundred photographers and journalists jostled to take their places, in the middle of a crowd of thousands of spectators (according to Billy WILDER, he said there were nearly 5,000 people; but one newspaper put the number at around 1,000), who enjoyed every moment hollering and shouting frantically "Higher! Higher!" each time the skirt of Marilyn was flying away.
The shoot lasted five hours and there were fifteen takes. The wind was managed by a machine installed below the ventilation grid of the metro, on which Marilyn was seated. The special effects manager, Paul WURTZEL, had a gigantic fan installed, so that the air current was powerful enough to lift Marilyn's dress and thus reveal her legs and her white panties. It is for this reason that Marilyn, far-sighted, wore two white panties on top of each other, in order to avoid any transparency effect, although some have suggested the opposite (like Bruno BERNARD), asserting that she wore only transparent panties. . Apparently, the technicians operating the fan took bribes to allow some onlookers a "clear" view from below.

YVONNE DE CARLO 💕
Before she was our beloved Lilly Munster, Yvonne De Carlo was a serious screen siren in the 1940’s and 1950’s. She had one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood and a style to match. Originally hired by Paramount for her resemblance to Dorothy Lamour, De Carlo quickly proved that she was her own woman and went on to play lead roles in dozens of major motion pictures.
Of Sicilian and Scottish descent, her unique looks made her a hot commodity, not to mention a natural in front of a camera.
Here are some of her most stunning photographs... 💕

Dynamic Duo: Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra 💕

Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra in "Anchors Aweigh" (1945).
Anchors Aweigh was their first collaboration, and introduces the classic set up of them as Navy sailors on leave, hunting for girls and generally having a good old time. This time they’re on leave in Hollywood, and their object of pursuit is Susie, played by Kathryn Grayson.

Their next teaming-up was Take Me Out to the Ball Game, which features the endearingly goofy premise that two star baseball players are also vaudeville performers in the off season. Back on the field, their new manager is K.C. Higgens, who turns out to be Katherine Catherine Higgins, who turns out to be Esther Williams. Both the boys start going after her, but this time Frank has Betty Garrett waiting in the wings, as Wolves superfan Shirley.

"Take Me Out to the Ball Game" (1949)
On the Town marks their last appearance together, but it’s the one that made perhaps the most permanent mark on the classical film canon–it’s currently (and well-deservedly) ranked #19 on AFI’s list of greatest musicals. Gene and Frank return to their “roots” as sailors on leave, this time bringing back Jules Pushin as the third in their trio and Betty Garrett as Frank’s love interest.

Gene and Frank were supposed to work together again for the musical spoof Robin and the Seven Hoods, with Gene playing the role of producer and director this time. Early press indicates perhaps a veiled conflict already brewing, as Gene tells the Associated Press here that since it’s Frank’s money, he can do whatever he wants.  The AP valiantly tries to spin the statement, but the quote still certainly sounds like it’s coming from the context of a larger, more serious argument. And indeed, three weeks before principal photography begins, Gene exits the picture. One source suggests that their work styles were too different, and that Gene walked away from the working relationship in order to preserve their off-set friendship. Frank was later quoted as saying he felt like he was just taking orders in regards to the film, not making decisions.
Anchors Aweigh, Take Me Out to the Ball Game, and On the Town remain a time capsule of two actors at the height of their abilities, and who are both so, so awfully… nice to watch.

Marilyn Monroe in Niagra (1953)
💕💕💕
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Release date: January 21, 1953 (United States)
Writers: Charles Brackett, Walter Reisch, Richard L. Breen
Cast: Joseph Cotten (George Loomis), Marilyn Monroe (Rose Loomis), Jean Peters (Polly Cutler), Max Showalter (Ray Cutler), Denis O'Dea (Inspector Starkey), Richard Allan (Patrick)
Tumblr media
Rose Loomis (Marilyn Monroe) and her older, gloomier husband, George (Joseph Cotten), are vacationing at a cabin in Niagara Falls, N.Y. The couple befriend Polly (Jean Peters) and Ray Cutler (Casey Adams), who are honeymooning in the area. Polly begins to suspect that something is amiss between Rose and George, and her suspicions grow when she sees Rose in the arms of another man. While Ray initially thinks Polly is overreacting, things between George and Rose soon take a shockingly dark turn.

Niagara was a huge hit for Twentieth Century Fox when it debuted. The promotion for the movie featured the pairing of what they called two great beauties of nature – Niagara Falls and Marilyn Monroe.
Tumblr media
Unlike other film noirs of the time, Niagara was filmed in "Three-Strip" Technicolor (one of the last films to be made at Fox in this format, as Fox was in the process of converting to CinemaScope, and which is mutually-exclusive with "Three-Strip", but not with Eastmancolor), and was one of Foxs biggest box office hits of the year.
Tumblr media
Monroe was given first billing in Niagara which elevated her to star status. Her following two films of that year, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, with Jane Russell, and How to Marry a Millionaire, with Betty Grable and Lauren Bacall, were even bigger successes.

Filming Niagara on location
Critic Robert Weston also hailed the film and wrote, "Niagara is a good movie for noir fans who crave something a little different. Be warned, the film was shot in glorious Technicolor, not black and white, but still boasts an ample share of shadows and style...Undoubtedly, the best reason to see Niagara is just as trailer promised: for the scenery. Theres some terrific location work that showcases the breathtaking aspects of the Falls before the city evolved into a tawdry Canadian answer to Atlantic City; and of course, theres a gal named Marilyn Monroe, burgeoning at her humble beginnings."

The famous walk by Marilyn's character Rose Loomis across the cobblestone street holds the record for the longest walk in cinema history - 116 feet of film. ❣
❣ Rest In Peace, sweet Marilyn ❣

JAYNE MANSFIELD AND HER 5 BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN 💕
Tumblr media
Mansfield has 5 children, and gave birth to her first child when she was only 17. Many of her kids are in show business, including Law and Order SVU Emmy Winner Mariska Hargitay.
Regardless of what has been claimed about Jayne over the years, most people agree that Jayne was a good mother. Jayne's five children were 16-1 at the time of her death.
Tumblr media
Jayne Marie Mansfield – November 8, 1950
Jayne Marie is Jayne’s first child, fathered by Jayne’s first husband, Paul Mansfield.
Jayne Marie claimed that she was writing a biography on her mother but it has never materialized. July 1976 saw Jayne Marie’s debut in Playboy, making her the first daughter of a centerfold to also pose for Playboy in the magazine’s history. Jayne has been featured in several documentaries on her mother and is quite candid about their relationship.
Tumblr media
Miklos (Mickey) Hargitay Jr. – December 21, 1958
Mickey is Jayne’s second child.
Tumblr media
Zoltan Hargitay – August 1, 1960
Zoltan surviving being attacked by a lion is one of Hollywood’s most tragic accidents. Luckily Zoltan survived and is active on Facebook. He regularly posts pictures of his mother and is active in the Jayne community.
Tumblr media
Mariska Hargitay – January 23, 1964
Jayne’s second daughter, Mariska Hargitay is most known for appearing as Olivia Benson on Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit. She is the only one of Jayne’s children to focus exclusively on acting. For Mariska’s fourth birthday, former gossip columnist and friend to Jayne, May Mann, held a party to celebrate Mariska’s first birthday without her mother. Mariska reportedly heartbreakingly repeated how she wished her mother was present.
Tumblr media
Tony Cimber – October 18, 1965
Tony is probably the least followed of Jayne’s children. He went on to work behind the scenes in shows such as GLOW and House of Mystery. He reportedly lives in Los Angeles, CA.
