Dates or Time of Year for Each Nancy Drew Game

whatamagicalplace made one of these charts last year. Those efforts gave me a starting point but I wanted to tweak it after doing my own research. I decided to share my final result since my version differs from hers in several ways. My reasoning for each game is discussed below; but if you have any evidence to add, feel free.

SCK: Nancy says in the opening letter she took a semester off school to visit Eloise in Florida. The banners for Senior Prom are still prominent throughout the school and the event is scheduled for May 23. Game takes place in a single day but that day could be any time in late spring semester prior to May 23.

SCK2: Homecoming banners are prominent and the event is scheduled for Sept 23. A flyer with Jake’s secret messages has a date of Sept 05, so let’s assume Jake was still alive then. The game says Nancy is there to investigate after Jake was murdered “last week.” That could mean three to seven days after the murder since it happened on a Thurs. Thus Remastered takes place in a single day but that day could be anywhere from Sept 08 to 22.

STFD: Nov 13 (confirmed with calendar). Game takes place for as many days and nights as player needs.

MHM: “Winter Festival” and Charlie studying for finals indicates late Nov to early Dec. Newspaper about the lost gold at the end is dated Mar 03; it could’ve been published after money settlement and the renovations completed though. Game takes place for as many days and nights as player needs.

TRT: December. The Spanish letter from Lisa’s friend is dated Nov 30 and acknowledges that Lisa is already in Wisconsin. By now, time should be well into Dec.

FIN: Possibly Nov (game’s release) but there are no confirmed dates on anything. It’s likely during the school year since Maya is doing the interview for the student newspaper. Game takes place over three days.

SSH: Calendar on Henrik’s desk is for the month of April. The book version takes place during the DC Cherry Blossom parade which usually occurs last week of March or early April. Game takes place for as many days as player needs. (Early April timeline would match with end of game trailer and dates for DOG.)

DOG: Jeff’s calendar is open to April. Culprit’s log book says Sally is due to move in to the cabin on April 19. Sally says she spent four weeks at Moon Lake, implying the game starts May 18. But I really don’t see Jeff’s character forgetting to change the calendar, so either Sally moved in early or she means four weeks total including seeing the property, bidding, and the final sale plus moving in. And let’s remember there’s no safe water source, so it’s unlikely Sally could live there for four weeks straight. Sally says the dogs howled a full week before they attacked the house and then they appeared every night since; maybe Sally lasted 9-14 days with the ghost dogs. The game could likely begin anywhere between Apr 28 and May 18. Then continue for as many days and nights as the player needs.

CAR: Culprit’s emails with black market dealer date from May 23 through June 04. Harlan’s appt book opens to June 09-13 with the significant clue on June 10. Game is a single day, likely on June 10, but could be as early as June 05.

DDI: June 17 (confirmed with calendar). Single day of gameplay.

SHA: Sept 15 to 17. Nancy’s airline ticket confirms arrival date in AZ. Timeline of the game takes place in three days. (Tex’s b-day is Sept 16!)

CUR: This is anybody’s guess. Hugh and Linda were married Aug 22. The lawyer’s letter to Mrs. Drake states Linda must live at the manor for another three months to fulfill the “six-month-habitation-clause” and those six months must be consecutive in the first year of marriage. Game could be late Nov at the earliest. However, frogs are chirping when Nancy arrives at the manor which is a spring thing and Bess and George say they are attending sailing camp. The fact that no one is suggesting that Linda can leave due to health reasons and start the six months over when she’s well again makes me think the year is half gone already. So the game could also be taking place in April or May at the latest.

CLK: May 07 (confirmed with calendar). Single day of gameplay.

TRN: We see snow in Copper Gorge, but it’s in Colorado and snow can be any time of year there. Frank and Lori are wearing the puffy vests and everyone else has jackets and sweaters. Fatima says it’s the off-season now and summer is the busy season. Makes me think winter is my best guess.

DAN: Game takes place for as many days as player needs. The newspaper on Day 1 is dated Aug 28. Newspapers continue to appear through Sept 06, which publishes that the journalists are negotiating for raises and the sounds of the impending strike are occurring outside JJ’s apartment. Day 11 (Sept 07) and onward have no more newspapers appear on the kitchen table. Let’s say Aug 28 to Sept 07 for simplicity.

CRE: Mike’s calendar is set to March. Quigley’s tape recorder log updates as of Mar 28. Craven’s shipping records say his latest sample was sent to Aikens Biotech on Apr 09. Game takes place in a single day, probably Apr 09 or 10. (Mike just hasn’t turned over the calendar yet)

ICE: Newspaper in the lodge is dated Jan 13. Elsa’s resignation letter is dated Jan 15. Lodge computer says Lupe checked in on Jan 15 and she noticed the lack of maid services for days. Game likely takes place that same week, starting maybe Jan 18 at the earliest, and lasts over several days and nights.

CRY: May 31 (confirmed with calendar). Single day of gameplay.

VEN: Newspaper in the Ca’ terrace says chalice was stolen “this morning” and the police records say the theft happened Jan 25. When Nancy nabs Nico on the stakeout, the next day’s newspaper is dated Feb 03. Since game takes place over several days, it likely plays from Jan 25 to Feb 03.

HAU: Night of May 28. The wedding is set for June 01. The end dialogue says Kyler and Matt couldn’t stop saying “I love you” from when the rocket launched to four days later, which was their wedding day.

RAN: The float plane pilot says resorts like Dread Isle shut down in the summer for “hurricane season” in the Bahamas. And the game was released in July. Since we see the map that charts all of Nancy’s past cases (including HAU) so the game is after the wedding on Jun 01. But there is no reference to the current date aside from “summer.” Single day of gameplay.

WAC: The essay Mel receives from her teacher with the plagiarist comments is dated Nov 21. Since two more nights of sleep are required to trigger events in the game, we can figure that the game takes place from Nov 21 to 23.

TOT: Scott’s calendar is open to May and filled in with code until the 19th. The log book of precipitation is filled out until May 24. Game likely takes place from May 20 to 25.

SAW: The TE-Japan brochure in Nancy’s teacher tote says her exchange program runs from Jun 01 to Sept 15 with different durations of 2 weeks, 3-4 weeks, and 5-8 weeks. With no specific date in the game and the player taking as many days and nights as needed to solve the mystery, we have to settle for saying it takes place in “summer.”

CAP: Karl’s daily calendar is on page March 12. When Nancy finds the final forged email from “Markus” she remarks that it has tomorrow’s date, which is Mar 13. Game is a single night of play on Mar 12.

ASH: Newspaper and police report of Nancy’s arrest say the game is done in a single day of August 18. The fire took place on Aug 17.

TMB: It’s the desert and there are no dates on any clue in the game. Since Lily is a student and Abdullah and Jon are professors, perhaps the game takes place in summer between any busy semester/class schedules.

DED: Ellie’s notepad in the control booth says she gave the coil demo to Nancy on Oct 29. Nancy arrived in daylight hours but since Ellie is on the night shift, the demo could have taken place on either side of midnight which means the game could start on either Oct 28 or 29. (Nancy arrived 10/28, night fell and midnight passed, then Ellie gives demo 10/29 OR Nancy arrives 10/29, night fell and it’s not midnight yet, then Ellie gives the demo still on 10/29.) Game continues for as many days and nights as the player needs.

GTH: Jessalyn’s phone recorded her bachelorette party antics from the night of Oct 27 to early morning of Oct 28. Addison says Jess had vanished for the second time after sun-up. It is unclear how many days Jessalyn has been missing before Nancy arrives on the island. Nancy was deep asleep when Savannah calls her for help, which means Jess has been gone at least a full day. Then Nancy arrives on the island at night which either means it’s evening on the same day of Savannah’s call or another day has passed by the time Nancy gets there. Oct 29 is the earliest possibility. Game takes place over three nights. Likely set between Oct 29 and Nov 01.

SPY: The newspaper reports that July 14 is near and it will be the eighth anniversary of Revenant’s first attack. Alec’s letter documents that his sister was kidnapped on the first of the month and has not been seen since. Game takes place between Jul 02 and 14. While Nancy cannot sleep or change the time of day, it is hard to believe that traveling back and forth throughout Scotland’s towns and the different phases of the spy operation all take place in a single day.

MED: Summer in the southern hemisphere, so datewise it’s set between Dec and Feb. Again there’s no sleep or time of day transitions but the elimination rounds likely take place over several days.

LIE: Employee timecards are recorded through July 05, the artifact exchange log is filled out through July 06, and the packing slip on the open crate says received July 06. Game is a single day of play, likely on July 06 or 07.

SEA: Soren’s winter guest log says Nancy is visiting in January. Game takes place for as many days and nights as player needs.

MID: Minion’s plane ticket TO Austria where the game begins is dated Oct 26 and the game goes into Halloween.

Nipsey Hussle

Ermias Joseph Asghedom (August 15, 1985 – March 31, 2019), known professionally as Nipsey Hussle (often stylized as Nipsey Hu$$le), was an American rapper, activist, and entrepreneur. Emerging from the West Coast hip hop scene in the mid-2000s, Hussle independently released his first mixtape, Slauson Boy Volume 1, to moderate local success, which led to him being signed to Cinematic Music Group and Epic Records.

Hussle became known for his numerous mixtapes, including his Bullets Ain't Got No Name series, The Marathon, The Marathon Continues and Crenshaw, the last of which rapper Jay-Z bought 100 copies for $100 each. After much delay, his debut studio album Victory Lap was released in 2018 to critical acclaim and commercial success, and was nominated for the Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019. Two posthumous Grammy Awards for the songs "Racks in the Middle" and "Higher" was awarded to Hussle in the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap/Sung Performance categories, respectively, the next year at the 62nd Grammy Awards.

Also known for his entrepreneurship, Hussle inaugurated the Marathon Clothing store, which he founded along with partners Carless, the head of the agency, Karen Civil and his brother Samiel Asghedom in 2017, and started a co-working environment which he named "Vector 90". On March 31, 2019, Hussle was fatally shot outside his store Marathon Clothing in South Los Angeles. Eric Holder, a 29-year-old man who had confronted Hussle earlier in the day, was arrested and charged with murder on April 2, 2019.

Early life

Ermias Joseph Asghedom was born on August 15, 1985, in Crenshaw, Los Angeles, California, to Angelique Smith, an African-American woman, and Dawit Asghedom, an Eritrean immigrant. He was raised in the Crenshaw neighborhood of South Los Angeles with his brother Samuel and his sister Samantha. Asghedom attended Hamilton High School in the nearby Castle Heights neighborhood, but dropped out before graduating. At the age of 14, Asghedom left home and joined the local Rollin 60's Neighborhood Crips, a sub-group of the larger Crips gang primarily based in his home neighborhood of Crenshaw. His stage name, a play on the name of comedian Nipsey Russell, originated as a nickname given to Asghedom by a childhood friend. At the age of 19, Asghedom's father took both him and his brother Samuel on a trip to Eritrea, East Africa for three months in 2004. Asghedom credited the trip with inspiring him to become a community activist with an "entrepreneurial spirit".

Music career

2008–2010: Bullets Ain't Got No Name series

In December 2005, Hussle independently released his first mixtape, Slauson Boy Volume 1, to moderate local success. His debut project helped to build a small regional fanbase on the west coast, and eventually led to Hussle being signed to Cinematic Music Group and Epic Records. In 2008, Hussle released the first two installments in his Bullets Ain't Got No Name series of mixtapes, which helped to bring Hussle's music to a larger audience.

Nipsey's profile continued to grow into 2009, when he collaborated with Drake on the song "Killer", and also appeared, along with Snoop Dogg and Problem, on the song "Upside Down", from Snoop Dogg's 2009 album Malice n Wonderland. He also released the third instalment in Bullets Ain’t Got No Name, as well as his commercial debut single, "Hussle in the House". Despite the song, which samples Kris Kross' 1992 single Jump, being well received by critics, it failed to make any impact on the charts.

After Epic experienced financial issues in 2010, Nipsey opted not to renew his contract and left the label. Not long after going independent, Hussle appeared on the song "We Are the World 25 for Haiti", and was featured by XXL Magazine as one of its "Annual Freshman Top Ten", a selection of ten up-and-coming hip-hop artists to watch. XXL labeled him "Most Determined" of his class, and LA Weekly called him the "next big L.A. MC". Hussle was expected to release his debut album, South Central State of Mind, in October 2010. Prior to release, the album was supported by the single "Feelin' Myself" featuring Lloyd. While the production was set to be handled from J.R. Rotem, Scott Storch, Mr. Lee, Play-N-Skillz, Terrace Martin and 1500 or Nothin', the album was set to be featured with the guest appearances from Trey Songz, Jay Rock and Sean Kingston. Concurrently, he announced that he planned on releasing a mixtape with fellow rapper Jay Rock, titled Red and Blue Make Green. Following the release of a music video for "Feelin' Myself", the album was set for a December 21, 2010, release; however, both of these projects were eventually postponed indefinitely.

2010–2013: Leaving Epic Records and

The Marathon

series

After leaving Epic, Nipsey founded his own record label, All Money In. On December 21, 2010, he released his first All Money In Records mixtape, titled The Marathon, which featured guest appearances from Kokane and MGMT. On November 1, 2011, Hussle released a sequel titled The Marathon Continues, which featured L.A. rappers YG and Dom Kennedy. On April 17, 2012, Hussle released a collaborative album with fellow rapper Blanco, Raw. The album featured guest appearances from YG, Mistah FAB, Yukmouth, B-Legit, Kokane and Freeway.

In May 2012, Nipsey released a single titled Proud of That, marking his first collaboration with Florida rapper Rick Ross. Nipsey was subsequently featured on Ross' Maybach Music Group's song "Fountain of Youth", which appears on the label's second album Self Made Vol. 2. The music video was released on October 1, 2012. Rumours began to circulate that Nipsey would sign with MMG, and in December 2012, Hussle himself hinted at signing, however, he also said that he was still looking for the right label.

Hussle said that he would be releasing his third and final installment of The Marathon mixtape series with TM3: Victory Lap in 2013, after it was pushed back from its initial December 2012 release date. He also announced that he was planning on releasing a joint mixtape with a fellow West Coast rapper and frequent collaborator YG. Hussle performed at the 2013 Paid Dues festival on March 30, 2013 in California. After deciding against signing to a major label, due to a lack of creative freedom, he choose to make Victory Lap his debut album.

2013–2019: Crenshaw and Victory Lap

Beginning in 2013, he released various songs from his upcoming mixtape Crenshaw, including the 9th Wonder produced track "Face the World", and a The Futuristics and 1500 or Nothin' produced track "Blessings". On August 6, 2013, Hussle announced that Victory Lap would now be released as an album, rather than a mixtape. Prior to the release of Victory Lap, Nipsey announced on September 16, 2013, that he would be releasing a new mixtape, Crenshaw (hosted by DJ Drama), on October 8, 2013. On September 24, 2013, he revealed the track list for Crenshaw, which contained guest appearances from Rick Ross, Dom Kennedy, Slim Thug, James Fauntleroy II, Z-Ro, Skeme and Sade, among others. The production on the mixtape was handled by The Futuristics, 1500 or Nothin', 9th Wonder, Mike Free, Ralo and Jiggy Hendrix, among others. He also released the "Crenshaw" documentary that day in promotion of the mixtape. On October 3, 2013, he released another trailer for the mixtape, and attracted attention when he revealed 1,000 hard copies of the mixtape would be sold for $100 each. Jay Z personally bought 100 copies. He reportedly sold out all 1,000 copies in less than 24 hours, effectively making $100,000.

Upon the release of Crenshaw, Hussle said that Victory Lap would be released in 2014. On November 20, 2013, Hussle confirmed that Victory Lap would feature production from Ralo, 1500 or Nothin', The Futuristiks and DJ Mustard. He later confirmed more producers, including Don Cannon and DJ Khalil on the album. After the year went by with no new releases, Hussle released a new mixtape, Mailbox Money on New Year's Eve 2014, again releasing 1000 hard copies for $100 each.

Nipsey made a number of guest appearances throughout 2015 and 2016, working with Jadakiss, Trae Tha Truth and YG. In 2016, he released another mixtape, titled Famous Lies and Unpopular Truth. He commented on the 2016 US presidential election by releasing the single "FDT" ("Fuck Donald Trump") with YG; the song was written about Hussle's positive experiences with Mexican immigrants in the United States, whom Trump had criticized.

After numerous delays, Hussle's debut studio album, Victory Lap, was released on February 16, 2018, debuting at number 4 on the Billboard 200, selling 53,000 album equivalent units in its first week. The album was met with universal acclaim from critics, and numerous songs entered the Billboard Hot 100, including "Double Up", "Last Time I Checc'd" and "Dedication", marking Nipsey's debut on the chart as a lead artist. Victory Lap was also nominated for a Best Rap Album at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019, but lost out to Cardi B's Invasion of Privacy. Over 1 year after its release, the album reached a new peak of number on the Billboard 2000 in April 2019 after Hussle's murder on March 31. His single "Racks in the Middle" featuring Roddy Ricch and Hit-Boy also reached a new peak of number 44 on the Hot 100, following his death.

Business ventures

Hussle's nickname came from his entrepreneurial spirit. He shined shoes for $2.50 to pay for school clothes at age 11 with a goal of a hundred shoes a day. Hussle sold his mixtapes out of a car trunk at a neighborhood strip mall at the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard. After leaving Epic Records, he founded his own record label. Hussle experimented with unorthodox sales strategies by selling expensive copies of certain mixtapes even while the songs were distributed for free.

Hussle's Marathon branding inspired Steve Carless in 2013 when he founded Marathon Agency with business partners Karen Civil and Jorge Peniche. They designed the talent-based brand to attract a diverse set of clients in all stages of their careers. In October 2016, Carless, the head of the agency, told Billboard that Hussle had invested "like over six figures" in the Marathon Agency and described him as "kind of like our silent partner."

Hussle opened the Marathon Clothing store on June 17, 2017, which he founded along with partners Carless, Civil, and his brother Samiel Asghedom. Opening the store at this intersection in the Crenshaw commercial district was important to him because he wanted to invest and provide opportunities in his neighborhood of Hyde Park. The store is billed as a "smart store," which bridges the gap between culture and technology by giving customers access to exclusive music and other content created by rappers through an app created by software engineer Iddris Sandu. The year before his death, Hussle had bought the L-shaped small shopping center where his store was located. His partner was real estate investor David Gross, who is also a South Los Angeles native.

All Money In

Hussle created the record label All Money In after leaving Epic Records. He released his first major project, The Marathon, through the new label on December 21, 2010. He released subsequent projects under his label, including The Marathon Continues (2011), Crenshaw (2013), and Mailbox Money (2014). He also signed other artists, including J. Stone, Cobby Supreme, Cuzzy Capone, BH, Pacman Da Gunman, and Killa Twan.

Acting career

In 2007, Hussle played a small role in Bone Thugs-n-Harmony's semi-autobiographical film I Tried, which was directed by Rich Newey. In 2010, he starred in the film Caged Animal, alongside Ving Rhames, Gillie Da Kid and Robert Patrick. In 2015, Hussle was featured in a cameo "The Sexy Getting Ready Song" in the pilot episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, rapping two bars.

Community activism

Hussle wanted to focus on "giving solutions and inspiration" to young black men like him. He denounced gun violence through his music, influence and community work. He spoke openly about his experiences with gang culture.

He funded improvements to neighborhood schools and spent time with students, also participating on panels about growing up in the area and the influence of gang culture. Hussle started a co-working environment which he named Vector 90. From his own experience, he believed that the Crenshaw area as being under served and that young people would benefit from communal workspaces. He wanted youths to be able to take classes in science, technology and mathematics at the center. In March 2019, Hussle had contacted officials from the LAPD to arrange a meeting with him and Roc Nation about what they could do to help prevent gang violence in South Los Angeles. The meeting had been scheduled to take place on April 1.

Hussle was murdered on March 31. According to Los Angeles Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff, department officials will meet with Hussle's representatives at a future date on these issues, to continue the activist's work in his honor.

Personal life

Hussle and actress Lauren London began dating in 2013. They had a son together born in 2016. London has a child from a previous relationship with fellow rapper Lil Wayne, while Hussle had a daughter from a previous relationship. He remained very involved in South Los Angeles with his businesses, charitable activities, and the homes of family and friends. The locations for a magazine shoot were in the neighborhood.

Death

On March 31, 2019, Hussle was shot at least 10 times in the parking lot of his store, Marathon Clothing, in South Los Angeles at about 3:19 p.m. Gunshot wounds included a shot to his right chest, a shot that entered into his abdomen near his navel and severed his spine, a gunshot wound to the right side of his back that penetrated into his chest and struck his lung, and a gunshot wound to "the posterior top" of his scalp. Two others were wounded in the shooting. All three victims were transported to a hospital, where Hussle was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. He was 33 years old. Rapper GBO Gaston claimed to have killed Nipsey Hussle on an Instagram post before the suspected perpetrator was arrested. Police have identified 29-year-old Eric Ronald Holder Jr. as the suspect.

Investigators believe Eric Holder, the suspect, was known to the rapper and that the shooting was possibly motivated by a personal matter. On April 2, 2019, Holder was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department and was being held in solitary confinement.

Hussle is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Southern California. His brother, Samuel Asghedom was appointed the permanent administrator of Hussle's estate.

Memorials

Upon hearing the news of his death, numerous celebrities offered their condolences on social media. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also offered his condolences to Hussle's family.

Hussle's memorial service was held on April 11 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with tickets provided free of charge.

A letter from former president Barack Obama praised the rapper for his work in the community:

The 25.5-mile (41.0 km) funeral procession wound through the streets of South L.A. including Watts, where he spent some of his formative years. Mourners gathered at the Watts Towers along the route. The crowds lining the streets demonstrated the impact he had on this community.

Hussle's longtime friend and collaborator YG dedicated his performance at the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to the memory of Nipsey Hussle.

Legacy

A petition was started to rename the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard near Hussle's store Marathon Clothing to "Nipsey Hussle Square". On the day of his funeral, the council announced it was set to be renamed Ermias "Nipsey Hussle" Asghedom Square to honor him and his contributions to the neighborhood.

There was a strong artistic response to Nipsey Hussle's death. Within a few months, over 50 murals dedicated to the rapper were painted in the City of Los Angeles. One mural is in an alley near the strip mall where he was killed. Hussle's store has remained closed since his death.

Puma released the Marathon Clothing collection in September 2019 with 100% of net proceeds to the Neighborhood ‘Nip’ Foundation. The AMB store opened in September 2019 on Crenshaw Boulevard. This is another clothing company founded by Hussle with Cobby Supreme who was one of his best friends and an artist.

The season 2 premiere of the CW series All American included a candlelight vigil at Hyde Park with a eulogy by the character Flip Williams (played by Lahmard Tate). Tattoo artist Keenan Chapman painted a mural just for the episode. The series included "Grinding All My Life" in its pilot, and series star Daniel Ezra was a fan. Characters from the series wore clothes from the Marathon store. Hussle had planned to appear in the season 1 finale but had "scheduling conflicts".

Inspired by the books that Hussle had mentioned in interviews, songs and motivational messages, local chapters of The Marathon Book Club have formed. The list includes self-help bestsellers, cult classics and little-known books by black authors. Michelle Obama included "Hussle and Motivate" on her 2020 workout playlist.

At the 2020 Grammy Awards DJ Khaled, Kirk Franklin, John Legend, Meek Mill, Roddy Ricch and YG gave tribute to Hussle in honor of his legacy.

On March 6, 2020, thrash metal band Body Count released their seventh studio album titled Carnivore. The album features a song titled When I'm Gone which was written for Nipsey Hussle by the band's singer and fellow Los Angeles rapper Ice-T. The song features a spoken introductory part in which Ice-T says of Hussle, "the outcry of love and support after his death was incredible, but it inspired me to write this song." The song also features guest vocalist Amy Lee from the band Evanescence who is also credited by Ice-T as having co-written the song.

So anyway, life updates on what I’ve talked about good, bad, and vagueblog.

But I introduce you to Betty White, or the Millennium Falcon, name pending.

Most of yall know that I’m on disability, dealing with some massively janky medical issues that Alabama’s bottom-ranked health care system doesn’t even know how to cover, and my wifey blew a disc in her neck at work, essentially debilitating her, too, but also earning a small settlement. In scale of it, 25K -- 21 after lawyer fees -- isn’t really much to do anything with.

So we had already known we had to fix up and sell the house and thought, hey, the land value went up substantially out here, we can pocket and flip it and be hella good.

Until her father finally came out here and in long story short, found out that the inspector that ran through this house when my wife first bought it (during our breakup period YEARS ago) didn’t do his job and it’d be 20-30K worth of repairs to even sell this place at the value her loan is for, meaning we pretty much have to short sell it to get out from under it. I mean bad shit. Fire hazard wiring and rotting roof and siding element under shiny things that hid it that have clearly been deteriorating since long before the house got a lipstick job.

So we went and found an RV, because it’s time to go. We have to GO. We have to get out of this state. There’s nothing for us here. There’s no medical care, there’s no worker protections, being LGBT women we’re extra up a creek in the area, it’s just bad. So RV it was! But finding one in the now suddenly cramped budget with the house turning up bunk entirely was FUN.

But like a stroke of providence I happened to find a listing the day it was upgraded on what has been jokingly referred to by my friends as the Millennium Falcon of RVs.

It came from an older couple, almost 60, that had been RVing for a few years, and the thing was already used when they bought it. It’s a friggin 1994. It’s old, it’s Chonk. But it was a project RV they decided to start on and while it has a solid AF 454 engine in it,

they’ve over a few years put in just about New Everything. New transmission, new air brakes, new air bags, new radiator, new septic lines, new alternator, new battery, new steering and suspension, new new new new new. Modified backup camera that tracks engine temp/tire pressure/etc like modern dashes and stays on constantly instead of just when backing up. It has its little hijinks with the in-n-out stairs being funky and the generator is a funny little bit because they didn’t want to spend 8K+ on a generator for an old RV so they got one that’s an external mount, which I imagine is why it was having a hard time selling.

Atop that inside the wife went bananas and got rid of the shitty old wallpaper and painted it bright colors different on every wall, removed the space consuming fold out couch since they didn’t need an extra bed and installed an armoire-storage-couch-thing that takes up half the outter floor space, stuff like that.

This was their baby and they intended to keep this baby and did great work on this baby, and the second I saw it in the advert, I knew it, because the images weren’t all spit cleaned sales stuff, it was vacation images with their shit still hanging inside it and their party lawn with their sports teams and stuff and the shiny lights they added on it to make it a party bus like

So anyway it turned out they basically got conned into getting a newer shinier one and just wanted to get the fuck OUT of Alabama but because of the generator and age it wasn’t selling at market value which was about 15K even as old as it is, and had price gouged it down to *8500*

Thought it was too good to be true, got our old construction and mechanic friend go out out there and go over it with a fine toothed comb and this thing, as he put it “goddamn if I had the money, I’d buy it myself, what the hell, you ain’t gonna get anything better for that price, hell, you ain’t gonna get anything as good for the price” THEY JUST WANTED TO GET OUT OF ALABAMA. And I mean, MOOD, BIG MOOD.

In fact the money they were asking for was basically to pay off loans and costs on all the New Stuff they put into it to begin with.

Because of them basically gouging their asking price in half an old lady had come to see it same day and at first the husband was like WHOEVER GETS US THE MONEY FIRST but talking to us the wife was like HELL NO THAT OLD LADY COULD BARELY GET IN THE THING SHES JUST GONNA DRIVE IT DOWN TO FLORIDA AND LET IT ROT THIS IS OUR BABY THESE GIRLS NEED TO TAKE CARE OF IT AND THEY WILL and she ran interference through the weekend until our mechanic friend could go check it out.

You might ask “if you have a buttload of money why an RV” but in trying to get out of Alabama and all the way back to Oregon where I literally KNOW I can make it work out in life for us, for reasons that are a whole story unto themselves, the moving costs cross country alone for a uhaul would be expensive AF. Downpayments. Finding pet friendly apartments. And then whether it was portland or somewhere else we could get STUCK. And we’re tired of getting stuck. So we’re packing up our own FUCKING house that we FUCKING own outright that fucking NOBODY can take away from us and with NO payment obligations and FUCK THE SYSTEM.

So anyway this big fuckin honker the wife was like WHY ARE YOU SO COMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS to Shea, but Shea worked for both Uhaul and Hertz so like hauling bigassed trucks around was kinda her thing and she also worked horses so giant ass horse trailers, you name it. So she just got up in there like she belonged and next thing you know we’re doing 65 down the bendy ass mountain freeways of central alabama like we been doing it for years

PS when you are in a literal fucking house 65 feels like 90, I’m just letting you know that now.

We’re still at our house cuz we gotta get this properly under our own tag/insurance and get a tow for the car. It was funny though cuz experienced or not knowing it was OUR LITERAL HOUSE Shea started like GOTTA BE CAREFUL GOTTA BE CAUTIOUS GOTTA MAKE SURE NOBODY DUMB and it turned into GET OUT THE WAY FUCKERS I’LL WIN within the 120 mile haul back home. Like BITCH I’LL TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS BUT I AINT GONNA TRY TO JACK RABBIT STOP THIS FUCKER SO YOU BETTER GET SOME GIDDYUP IF YOU GONNA MERGE YOU FRIGGIN HONDA

This beast only has 65K miles on it. And that sounds like a lot but for an RV that isnt S H I T. People are like, if you can find a used one under 100K you’re doing okay. Half of those miles are just taking it out for a jog because you’re supposed to drive it once every couple weeks to keep it from rusting out basically. They just safely drove it in like a tristateish area down here for a few years as you can see on the cabinet stickers and moved around to sports games and shit and had fun.

The bedroom is purple. The kitchen is blue and yellow. KJSDKJFSjk she was like “Fuck the 1990 floral wallpaper we updating, there’s extra paint in one of the storage bins if you wanna touch any of it up”

So that’s it. We’re gonna do some work with said mechanic friend on the AC and a few tweaky details and as said, gotta tag/insurance/tow but once we get that worked out, that’s it, that’s home starting in a few weeks.

We’re heading to Independence, Missouri first to touch base with my internet momma then swinging in Salt Lake City to meet old media friends like the folks at Arrowstorm and stopping to enjoy their stuff at Evermore Park before hitting Portland which, reasonably, I’ll guestimate we’ll be at like a week or two before Halloween but maybe we’ll make better time. If you’re en route to those destinations and wanna meet up, lemme know, we’re still gonna have fun on the way and try to record shit.

Portland is the city I know how to work to and from the bone. I can turn any quarter into at least a dollar there, quite literally; I know how to eat eight times a day for free if need be. I reasonably think we can stay WELLLLLLLL above the line of needing that kind of assistance but because Shea is very anxiety driven to know we outright have a promised home and have promised food if worst case scenarios happen really made her go, you know what, fuck it, sure, Portland, you loved Portland, the wages are good in Portland, let’s do Portland.

If we start with dry camping at locations with free plug ups even still paying for Shea’s car and insurance, once major gas costs GETTING there are done, we’ll be running about 500 a month, and again, that’s including insurance for both vehicles and paying off her car note. Depending on the lot we land at, 700-900 a month. I can float that on my casual residual income. Everything after that is profit. Everything after that is success. I refuse to let Shea be anything less than Okay, but most of all, weird and nonconformative as it is, everything after this is scales of success. Hell minus the car note we’d be under 600/mo on the pricy end. We got dis.

No more of my wife being convinced she needs to performatively pull loans on her livelihood and shelter for the illusion of a 3/2 middle class life with a picket fence and a job she hates in a place she hates that she doesn’t know how to get away from. Hell, if she ends up hating Oregon? WE CAN PICK UP OUR HOUSE AND MOVE.

So buying the RV, paying the friend for the loss of a work day, the necessary gas to get out there, and the tow all in all is gonna run us about 12,000 bucks total, which isn’t a bad deal for bringing your own house with you.

We already burned a few thousand of our settlement trying to fix this house before the bad news and/or upkeeping bills but now it’s time to burn it and walk. By the time we roll I’m expecting us to have about 4K over costs in the bank, which is... enough. It’s more of a nest egg than we’d have if we stayed here that’s for sure, covers emergencies on the way there and gives us a few months to get our shit together. Even the part-iest part time job out in Portland will float any overhead on bills much less if shea can fall in with all the media and digital work out there with her graphic design and art, we’re eyeing the portland saturday market to sell her stuff at in season too. SCREW THE SYSTEM YALL

Vintage car owners, including those with muscle cars, street rods, hot rods, antiques and vintage trucks, are generally facing uncertain times as car thefts are on the rise, and actions from thieves are becoming more striking and brazen. I recently came across a story written by a man who owned a Daytona Blue 1963 Corvette Coupe with all matching numbers. The all-original classic sport car had an immaculate dark blue rooms where only the carpet had ever been replaced. The 327 engine was said to produce a rhythmic loping that not only brought a smile to your face, but got you day dreaming of having this loveliness parked in your own garage. Then disaster strikes and you're snapped out of your dream and into his headache! The owner of this beautiful piece of American history took his prized car to what he called a small "backwoods" show that a friend and he decided to go to in the spur of the moment. As owner Jacob Morgan, of Bakersfield, CA described, "The event was an annual but rather unofficial gathering of classic truck buffs and I was thrilled to bring my car down. Unfortunately, the part of Florida that the occurrence was being held was extremely dry due to drought. Thieves are generally known to take the entire car hauler (with the classic sitting on top) right off the tow vehicle's hitch ball and transfer the hauler to their own tow vehicle when people are on the road, at a motor vehicle show, or some other type of event. These are bold moves by people who do not fear the consequences. Other thefts that have been reported around the country have included: Dr . Phil just had his '57 Chevy Belair convertible stolen from the Burbank repair shop he had brought it to for repairs. A 1937 Buick, valued with over $100, 000 was taken from a gated community parking garage in Fort Worth, Texas. He of New Mexico reported the theft of two of his collector cars to Hemming. Ben owns about half a dozen collector cars altogether, and to store them all, he rented out a storage product. Unfortunately, when he went to check on them recently, for the first time in about six months, he found that will two were missing - a 1957 two-door Chevrolet Belair and a 1967 Mercury Cougar GT. There would be also a report of a man from Jefferson City, Missouri, who actually recovered his own stolen car, some sort of 1969 Chevrolet Camaro that had been stolen 16 years before, after seeing it in a Google search! Within a Los Angeles suburb, a woman came home to a garage empty of her prized 1957 Chevy Bel-Air which often had been valued at more than $150, 000. The beautiful convertible had been featured in several magazines and Tv programs and won dozens of awards at car shows around the country. A neighbor's surveillance camera caught what of the thieves and revealed that the Bel-Air was pushed down the street by a pickup truck which had pulled inside her driveway just minutes after she had left. The thieves likely loaded it onto an waiting for trailer. It's thought that the thieves spotting the car at one of the car shows, followed it home next, then waited for the opportunity to steal it. A Seattle collector was the victim of a targeted "smash-and grab" from the warehouse where he kept his cars. The thieves apparently ransacked the building and additionally drove off with a 396/425 four-speed 1965 Corvette Stingray; and a 20, 000-mile 396/four-speed 1970 Chevelle SS. A 1959 Chevrolet Impala was stolen during a Cruise Night. The owner got good news-bad news in the event the police tracked down because while they did recover the classic car, he had put in a maintain for the theft with his insurance policy after the theft many months before, so the car went to the insurance company rather then being returned to him. Apparently detectives recovered the Impala from a chop shop nearly eight a long time after it was stolen, repainted and modified. At the end of July, the trailer and everything in it disappeared. The last story really has a happy ending because it was recovered due to alert shop owners being suspicious of person looking to unload a Lancer for only $1, 500 including the many boxes of parts. After some explore, the owner was reunited with his car. Guy and I have been approached on numerous occasions by people eager to sell their vehicles. Some have hardship stories and the callers are willing to unload the car for a real great deal. We've always walked from these offers, primarily because we're not in the business of buying and selling vehicles (we're not dealers or re-sellers), but also because we're cautious of a "too-good-to-be-true" price. One call in certain did make us very suspicious, as the woman caller insisted that the sale had to be completed by Saturday (she called our shop over the weekend) and the price was extremely low for a rather rare product Mustang. Alert shop owners can be instrumental in aiding in the recovery of stolen classic cars. And not all stories have a happy ending like this. Classic cars, muscle cars and antiques can make their method to chop shops, end up damaged and abandoned, and even being re-sold on Internet sites such as eBay and Craigslist! Just yesterday, I reported on a 1954 Chevy Pickup truck which was stolen from a woman's driveway in Okla City. (Ironically this article was already written and scheduled for release today when the news hit. I've increased her case because, unfortunately, it emphasizes how common thefts have become. ) She wisely reached available to the Hemmings community of enthusiasts for help. Hemmings. com has a huge following, referred to as "Hemmings Nation", and appealing for help to a community of enthusiasts like this can be instrumental in helping to give vital information to help police and authorities who can help track and recover a stolen classic car. We applaud the effort that Hemmings does. And, the methods that thieves are using, as you can see, are as varied as the categories of vehicles! Even seemingly innocent little car shows and gatherings are places you need to exercise a little warning and care. As I reported in a July article, carjackings involving classic cars are even becoming even more commonplace. Surprisingly, in some cases, the Internet has been helpful in aiding in the recovery of classic cars and muscle mass cars. There have been numerous stories, much like the Camaro owner above, and a man who found his 1949 Honda through a listing on Craigslist (the two men responsible were arrested and charged with disassembling a car or truck after the owner positively identified it as his) where owners have been able to locate their cars with Internet searches. For those not so fortunate, insurance is the only consolation. We highly recommend classic car or "collector" car insurance. There are a number of companies that provide this specialized insurance, and it is generally well worth the cost. Classic Car Info provided an article, Purchasing Classic Car Insurance, containing a list of companies along with links to contact them. I also propose Hagerty Insurance's publication, Deterring Collector Car Theft, which has tips on theft prevention. In addition to the quick-strip thefts, robbers usually always alter, remove or forge VIN numbers, which make identification of the car or truck more difficult. Vehicle Id Numbers (VINs) are serial numbers for vehicles that are used to differentiate similar makes and models. Very like social security numbers, every vehicle has a different VIN. VIN plates are usually located on the dashboard on current cars, but are often found in the door jams of older models. VIN plates can be switched with an additional vehicle for a fast coverup. The point here is to be aware of your surroundings, including where you park your car. Tend not to take it for granted that just because you're at an event with fellow enthusiasts that something bad aren't able to happen. Take preventive action by securing your old car or truck. Guy Algar suggests, "Don't forget to look at precautions even at home. You may feel safe parking your ride in 'the safety' of your two van garage, but remember, even if you don't have windows where people can peer in and spot your sought after car, thieves can also follow you home from work, a cruise, or even the grocery store and approach a theft after surveilling your home and learning your schedule. Q: Do you miss filming at the trailer? Or do you prefer Amy and Ty's loft? G: The view at the Trailer was way better but the set in the loft is much more comfortable ;)

Q: What are your pastimes whenever you're not filming? G: Reading, hiking, traveling, learning new things, writing, photography, charity work.

Q: Loved the mission trip and you going to Mongolia, been to Bolivia for a mission trip which was amazing. We did have to stay in groups for our safety. Was safety ever an issue for you all? G: Thanks for the question! No safety wasn't an issue. We had two guides who made sure there weren't any issues. If your feeling sad or hurt what's the best way you get over that? G: Thank you for asking. This is a big question. I can't speak for everyone because it differs from person to person. But for me I ask myself first, what was I just thinking about? How did that make me feel? What actually happened? And what did I tell myself that it meant? A lot of my own discomfort and sadness comes from the story I tell myself or the meaning that I give to something that happened. This usually helps quite a bit. The next thing I do is move my body. Either a workout or a fast walk. I was taught that by moving your body you change the chemicals being released into your blood stream. Which always has a positive affect on your mood/state of mind. And the last thing I would say is sometimes it's healthy to feel sadness and let it flow through you. Don't push it away. This takes a strength and courage that I think was beautifully captured in the animated movie "Inside Out". Q: Are you OK???? Will you return full time if there are future seasons? If you are not going to return, will you stay active on social media??? Have you ever pitched/given consideration to doing some sort of comedy series with Kerry James; you two are quite good together doing comedy! By the way, great trans media stuff for heartland. Dusting off the Road Trip Blog

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.

Hi there folks, I am in the process of embarking on another cross-country adventure.

As many of you know my beloved wife Elisa and I are in our 39th year of marriage. More often than not during those 39 years we have happily owned some sort of recreational vehicle (RV). We’ve had a couple of different ones. We’ve had trailers towed with trucks and we’ve had a couple of different types of motorhomes. At one time we had a 31′ Jamboree Class C motorhome. Those are the types that are a little like a mullet hairstyle - cargo van in the front and party bus in the back.

We enjoyed “Jambo” as the kids named it, for many years until the business of life and growing list if interests of our kids began to get the best of us. So after many years, we sold old Jambo to a one-legged senior citizen, who unfortunately lost a leg somehow or another. He was looking for a motorhome that was of a size that he could manage with his handicap but would still afford him the room to travel the country. As I think back now on how he happily drove off in old Jambo I can’t help but wonder what adventures he has had in the many years since we sold it.

Once the kids were grown and gone and I retired from work the first time in 2012, Elisa and I got the itch to get another motorhome. We began to visit dealerships trying to figure out what we wanted. We settled on another Class C motorhome but this one would be a little different. We wanted one that was built atop the very successful and reliable Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis. So, in 2013, we took the plunge and purchased our brand new Forest River Solera, model 24S from a dealership in DesMoines, Iowa. So why did we, who were living in San Diego, CA at the time opt to purchase our motorhome from a large dealer in Des Moines? Well, after much shopping, we were unable to negotiate an acceptable price from the dealers in sunny San Diego in the middle of winter. But I found that the dealers in the frozen midwest were happy to take my order for a new Solera. So we placed our order in November and then went to pick it up in April or May - I can’t quite remember. We picked the Solera, because we were looking for a smaller motorhome that would be easy to drive and park but still roomy with a slideout….but still packing enough power so we could tow our small car behind it.

We love the Solera! The MB diesel engine is just great. It was our first experience owning a diesel vehicle and our initial apprehension and fears of not being able to locate a diesel fueling station were quickly allayed. Now days you can barely pass a street corner where 2 out of the 3 gas stations are likely to also serve diesel. The supercharged diesel engine in the Solera has plenty of power but was also pretty reasonable on fuel consumption. We would routinely experience 10 to 13 mpg depending on highway and weather conditions - all while pulling our car behind us.

Many of you may remember the previous blog I wrote in 2013 that detailed our “Epic Road trip”. We spent almost 3 months on the road covering about 40 of the lower 48 states. We put about 13000 miles on the Solera that summer and we did it without going totally mad in our cozy little motorhome.

After that road trip I took another job to help a friend out turning around a small S/W company. That kept me pretty busy through 2016, but we would still manage to put another 10000 miles on our Solera by taking a number of shorter trips around the Western USA. It was on our last trip in January 2017 to Oceanside, CA, that I mentioned to Elisa that it would be nice to have a little larger motorhome - maybe one with a larger bed and most importantly a larger bathroom shower.

So that sort of explains why I’m here in Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport awaiting my next flight to Boise, Idaho. You see, Elisa and I began looking at motorhomes again. We started out looking at Class A motorhomes - the ones that look like fancy school busses. We thought if we found one that was about 5 to 6 feet longer than our 25 fool long Solera it would give us all the space we could ever need. Well, we had never owned a Class A before and we were amazed at the choices available. They come in all different sizes and shapes and prices. We had test driven some very basic ones back in 2013 but found them to be too big and noisy and squeaky.

The first one I looked at in 2017 was a very high-end Tiffen motorhome with a gasoline engine. I was amazed at how sturdily built, quiet and easy to drive it was. Night and day difference to the low end one we drove in 2013. That Tiffen was 31′ long - only 6′ longer than our Solera. As we looked at more motorhomes, we began to think that our Daughter Krista and her fiancé Travis were about to get married in 2017 and they would surely like to travel with us from time to time. So, we thought maybe we would look at one that was “a little larger”. Then we test drove a Newmar Ventana LE - all 37′ of it. We were amazed at the quiet and smooth ride afforded by the rear mounted diesel engine. That opened us up to the wonderful world of “diesel pusher” motorhomes. These motorhomes have commercial diesel engines typically made by Cummins engines, sitting atop a heavy duty bus chassis made by Freightliner and equipped with a smooth Allison transmission. We quickly learned that the sky was the limit on how these diesel pushers could be equipped.

The Newmar we test drove was priced at $230K but as it was a 2016 closeout model, it could be ours for a mere $160K. As nice as it was, we weren’t crazy about the floor plan. It only had 2 sleeping areas - albeit one was a king sized bed and there other a long sofa that unfolded into a king size air bed. But it didn’t have the dinette configuration that Elisa preferred - instead it had a regular dining table and 4 chairs. Very nice. So the crafty salesman showed us another Newmar - this one 39′ long and this one had everything - including 1 and ½ bathrooms and a fold-out sofa bed and the beloved dinette. Unfortunately, 1 and ½ bathrooms does not come cheap and it was at $199K. Still a seemingly great deal as compared to the $260K sticker price. We were way out of our league.

So Elisa and I set off on a search for a gently used motorhome, preferably a diesel pusher and preferably with the much desired 1 and ½ bathrooms. We thought we had found it, a Forest River Legacy model. It was a 2015 and it was in Dallas, Texas. The price was good but there were complications, the owner was traveling and he didn’t have the pink-slip on it and we would have to work out the transaction with his bank. Nothing insurmountable. As we were considering purchasing it we were able to find the same model located in Tampa, Florida. It was a little more expensive by a few $k but it was a year newer and it was brand new complete with the original warranty. That looked like the one, but I was not relishing the thought of a solo drive back to the SF Bay area from Tampa.

That pretty much brings us full circle. I was able to find the same model for sale in Boise, ID at Denis Dillon RV. After a few phone calls and a little negotiating we had bought our new motorhome. I did manage to overlook that we are still in the middle of winter and the shortest route to Boise would take us up I-80 over Donner pass, which because of all the winter storms we’ve experienced was largely buried under a mountain of snow. This would make the drive there and drive back a bit more challenging. So, I now am sitting in the airport waiting on my next flight to Boise and I will be driving our new motorhome back to the SF Bay area taking a meandering route - sans snow - through Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. it’s about 500 miles longer than if I were able to take the straight shot down I-80 - but after all, someone once said, “its about the journey and not the destination”.

So I’ll let you know how it goes and I promise to post a few pictures.

PS - so what started out as a quest to find a “little larger shower and bed” has resulted in our purchasing a 38′ long diesel motorhome. What could possibly go wrong?

Although the Call of Duty franchise has never been afraid to shy away from portraying controversial themes, the “No Russian” mission from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 might have overstepped the line. The level had players acting as an undercover CIA agent who has to participate in a terrorist attack in a Russian airport, opening fire on dozens of civilians.

The issue proved to be contentious as soon as it became public knowledge. In order to avoid censure in both Japan and Germany, the developers altered the mission so that shooting the civilians would fail the mission. For Russian releases, the scene was removed completely. For the rest of the world, players are given the option to skip a “disturbing or offensive” mission, meaning you can still play as a terrorist and shoot up innocents in a CoD game as a US soldier.

The Goal Of Custer’s Revenge Is To Rape A Native American Girl

Though it may seem like a rather crude flash game, Custer’s Revenge was a fully-fledged title that was released on the Atari 2600 in 1982 by Mystique. It is arguably one of the most offensive games to have ever been released. Set in the American frontier, players have to get their fully erect character across a field while avoiding obstacles such as flying arrows. The target is a naked Native American girl tied to a pole.

The fact that Custer’s Revenge is basically just a rape game caused outrage. Atari sued the creators for damaging their brand, rights groups representing women and Native Americans protested it, and the publisher eventually pulled the game from store shelves.

Bully Rewards You And Encourages You To Be Cruel To Your Fellow Peers

Rockstar’s open world adventure game, Bully, was released in 2006. It is essentially a Grand Theft Auto game set in a prep school. As is the case with many of Rockstar’s games, the title received a large amount of criticism almost immediately upon release for its depiction of violence and the apparent trivializing of bullying. Parents were also concerned that a game by Rockstar was seemingly being marketed to younger audiences. Charities and organizations around the world condemned Bully and certain stores even refused to stock the game on their shelves.

Night Trap Was Misrepresented In A Senate Hearing As A Game Promoting Violence Against Women

Night Trap was a relatively small release for the Sega Mega-CD. It was a full motion video title, meaning it was more of an interactive movie rather than a traditional game. Players must protect a group of teenage girls from being murdered. Although no acts of realistic violence or nudity were ever shown on screen, a US Senate hearing into violence in video games misrepresented the content. Major newspapers covered the hearing and the game was subsequently accused in the national media of being violent towards women, leading to retailers removing it from their shelves.

Manhunt Has Players Kill People In Very Graphic Ways

Created by the same team behind the Grand Theft Auto series, Manhunt is arguably the most controversial of all the Rockstar franchises. The main problem with the game is the sadistic and graphic ways in which the player has to kill his opponents. Many felt that these violent acts would encourage copycats, and some even blamed the game for a murder in the UK. Despite protests by politicians around the world, the developer even went on to create a sequel that was just as controversial.

Duke Nukem Forever Depicts Women As Sex Objects

It would be reasonable to expect that if gamers were going to get upset over Duke Nukem Forever, it would be because of its decade-long development cycle, rather than the content. That was not the case, though. Many users were put off by the striking sexism present in the game.

Not only are women treated as nothing more than sex objects, but one game mode seemed to promote violence against them. The “Capture the Babe” mode has players carry females to their base. It also gave players the option of slapping them on the bottom if they freaked out. Despite the series always having a somewhat immature attitude towards women, some critics felt this went too far.

Postal 2 Permits Players To Kill Hundreds Of Innocents And Has Racist, Sexist, and Homophobic Themes

The sequel to the equally controversial Postal, the sequel released in 2003 across a range of PC platforms. The first-person shooter attracted criticism from the media and charities due to its inclusion of hyper violence. It allows players to murder hundreds of civilians. Outrage also stemmed from the apparent racist, sexist, and homophobic themes present in the title.

Several countries have banned the sale of Postal 2 and New Zealand has even made it an offense to be in possession of the game. The Office of Film and Literature Classification said, “The game is designed, and has the capacity, to allow the player to test how much violence and humiliation he or she can inflict on human beings.” Anyone caught with the game faces a fine of up to $1,400.

Leisure Suit Larry Treats Women As Sexual Objects To Obtain

The Leisure Suit Larry series may seem like a jovial relic of a time when political correctness was less important, but the game was still able to cause a significant amount of controversy. Several stores refused to sell or advertise the title and some employees did not even want to work on the project at the development studio. The issue? The misogynistic tone of Leisure Suit Larry. The game treats women as nothing more than sex objects to be won over and this led to disapproval from many players.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Has Mini Sex Games Hidden In The Code That Can Be Unlocked With A Mod

Considering how much violence is present in every Grand Theft Auto game, it might surprise you to learn that the biggest controversy for the series came from a sex act. The “hot coffee” mode gave PC players the chance to unlock mini-games present in the code of San Andreas. These centered on sex scenes that users could play through between the main protagonist and other women. While they were inaccessible during normal gameplay, the fact they were still technically in the game led to the ESRB opening an investigation. Some stores also refused to sell the game.

The publisher flatly refused to censor any of the content and continued its efforts of attempting to bring equality in the workplace for LGBT people.
