RIP IAN GIBSON
Just found out the news. I can't say I'm an expert on his work or even an enormous fan but I did really love the work I have seen from him over the years. His stuff had such an angular distinctive style so you always knew it was him. When I was younger I tended to either absolutely love his pages or hate them, usually disliking his stuff more often. As I grew older and read more of his 2000 AD stuff I really grew to appreciate his work in a new light. Here are some of my favorite pieces of his off the top of my head as a loving tribute to the guy. He will be missed.

Some more shots of my recent Sláine minis. In this lighting, I'm noticing some spots that need touching up, but still liking how they came out overall.

Writing about drawing influences yesterday got me thinking about Cam Kennedy again. No one ever made Boba Fett look better. His surface textures, his sharp, slashy clothing folds, angular figures, and the sense of weight he hangs on characters are just lovely. I have a real soft spot for artists who seem to draw everyone in clothes that no longer fit them, or were made with somone bigger in mind.
I rant on characters who always seem buried in layers of gear but Kennedy's often wear it desperately, like carrying it isn't a choice and very little of it looks like it was made with the carrier's comfort or anatomy in mind. Everyone looks so worn-in, klunky, and used. His machines look like they're barely holding together, undersized, his space ships aren't made to feel gravity, nothing in his environments are squared up, the way he draws smoke trails, steam, impact debris- I love it!

RIP to 80s British comic artist, Kevin O’Neill. His art was always beautiful in a jagged, strange, and threatening way, rather like the last few abstracted and strange Louis Wain cats.
Though many know Kevin O’Neill best for League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. To me, his best work was a 2000 AD  strip about a future only inhabited by robot animals, the Metalzoic.
