💞 Five Weeks in a Row of Prompt, Plan, Write, Repeat 💞

When Louis accidentally releases the tiger trapped in Harry’s thigh tattoo, Harry has to explain not just what the fuck is happening, but that it’s not just a tiger. Luckily, Louis has a secret of his own that might help.

Harry’s been drawn to pantyhose since he was a kid. If only he could stop taking every snag and run personally.

When Louis breaks his arm and ends up in the hospital in traction, Harry comes up with an idea to distract him from the pain and discomfort. Louis’ bandmates are all too happy to pitch in.

In a future where the rich and famous can use lifelike android doppelgangers to increase their reach and expand their fortunes, unauthorized use of the technology by enterprising criminals results in a sub-class of doppelgangers referred to as Forgeries.

Harry Styles lives a simple life, far from the luxurious and nefarious worlds occupied by Dops and Forgeries. At least, he’s never had a reason to think otherwise. Until a mysterious stranger shows up and threatens to turn Harry’s world upside down.

Zayn guides Louis through a marathon day of fucking, exploring Louis’ submissive side through a series of varied constraints. Louis is game for it all, because nothing makes him feel freer than following Zayn’s rules.

And this weird ancestral knowledge Zayn’s got ever since he’s met Liam that first time — before One Direction, before X-Factor, when they were just fourteen and chatting awkwardly waiting for a Happy Meal. The stupid knowledge that this is it for him. That Liam is it.

1D Wordplay Fic Challenge - 2022 Edition

About the 1D Wordplay Fic Challenge

The Wordplay Fic Challenge is a challenge that runs for five weeks. Every week there is a single randomly generated word that acts as the prompt for that week's fics. Those who would like to participate in the challenge then have to do their best to write a fic based on that word in a week's time before then getting the prompt for the following week.

This is meant to be a low-stakes and fun challenge to get your creative juices flowing and help get those words out quickly in a way that is different from other similar challenges that attempt to do the same thing (such as NaNoWriMo) by allowing you to create five shorter works instead of one larger project. It is also a fun way to see how everyone interprets the prompts differently giving us a group of incredibly diverse fics all written for the same prompt.

Details

As stated above, the 1D Wordplay Fic Challenge lasts for five weeks. The words used as the prompts are assigned via a random word generator and posted to the @wordplayfics blog weekly. Everyone choosing to participate that week will have one week to write a fic inspired by that word. This year, the Prompts will be given on Wednesday mornings (Eastern Time) with the fics for that prompt posting the following Wednesday. Each Wednesday morning (August 17, August 24, August 31, September 7, and September 14), the new prompt will be assigned and that week’s fics will post a few of hours later. Authors can begin their work on the next week's fics as soon as the prompt is posted and they are ready to do so.

Those interested in participating are not required to take part in all five weeks. It is preferred that all who sign-up have the intent of participating in at least three weeks, but all five would be wonderful. Life happens and creativity doesn't always come about when you would like it to, which is fine. This is meant to be fun and as relaxed as a challenge involving this kind of fast turn around can be.

Rules

All participants must be 18 or older. Please respect this rule.

There are no word count limits or other rules regarding content, though all fics must include a member of One Direction as a main character.

The only requirements for the fics themselves are:

They are written within a week’s time and posted to the appropriate collection before that week's fics are revealed

The assigned word prompt is clearly used as inspiration for the fic

Posting Details

Below is all of the information regarding the details for posting your fics to the collection(s) and what information I am asking you include in AO3 when you post. I will update this post every week as I get the new collection set up for each prompt, but there will also be a link to the collection in the bio of the blog where the prompts are listed for each week, so that will likely be the easiest way to find it.

The Basics:

Add your fic to the appropriate collection (details below) by 1 pm EDT on the respective Wednesday

Please make a fic post for your fics and tag @wordplayfics

There will be a masterpost updated weekly with links to the newly published collection

Each week's collections will be able to be found here: Week 1: Scramble Week 2: Particular Week 3: Swing Week 4: Describe Week 5: Check - Posting 21 September

Please be sure your fic is in the collection before 1pm EDT each Wednesday.

There will be a countdown linked in each post with that week’s prompt because timezones can be hard. If your fic is not already in the collection when I go to publish the fics, then they won’t be approved to be in the collection. You may still post your fic and link it to the challenge–I will even reblog your fic post to the challenge page–but the point of this challenge is to write a fic in a week’s time. I don’t want to give any one person more or less time than anyone else, thus the deadline of 1 pm and not allowing late fics into the collection. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

Also remember: you aren’t required to participate every week, but please do your best to participate in at least three of the five weeks this challenge is active.

Once fics are posted, it is recommended you make a fic post. Be sure to tag @wordplayfics in the fic post so it can be reblogged here. (I also recommend you link to your fic post at the end of your fic in AO3. If you don’t know how to do this, please reach out and I will be happy to help you.)

It would be preferred if the fic posts are scheduled to post within an hour of the fics going live so they don't have to be searched for every week and it also helps lower the possibility of fic posts falling between the cracks and getting missed.

2021 Fests I Participated In 📝

Thank you to the lovely @larry-hiatus for coming up with this and tagging me to do it 💕

List the fests that you participated in this year and reflect on them

1. @1daboficfest

Oh this is the fest that birthed my baby Sweet like candy!! I had so much fun writing this little fic, and it’s one of my most popular fics. I looved the prompt I chose, with Louis’ smooth move of getting Harry’s number with gummy bears. I loved the characters and this fic world so much I actually made it a series for wordplay!

2. @larrydrabble

This was my first time participating in one of these challenges and I loved it! My word prompt was “trail” and I came up with my tinyest fic Trailing behind. It was challenging to keep everything at exactly 100 words, but I found I actually really enjoyed this kind of wordcount restriction!

3. @hlmpregficfest

This was my football player Louis fic with unplanned pregnancy! This fic didn’t come out exactly the way I wanted it to (life, you know) but I still really like it! And as someone that always struggles with finding titles, I think this one is one of my best lol: Game Changer

4. @wordplayfics

Wordplay was definitely a fun and challenging experience! I made a little series (love so soft, you ain’t had nothing softer) out of it, which is basically half fluff and half smut lol. I’m a master procrastinator, so it was refreshing to challenge myself to write five fics in five weeks, and I’m still somehwat surprised I actually managed to do it!

5. @1dtrickortreatfest

Just One More, my little 666 words fluffy kid fic! I knew from the moment I heard of this fest I wanted to write something for it, and I had a lot of fun with the little fic I came up with! Again, I love this kind of wordcount challenge, and I definitely want to do some more this year!

6. @soulmatesabroad

This fest came with a lot of firsts for me! First time writing a soulmates fic, first time writing enemies to lovers, first time writing a fic that didn’t take place in the UK. It definitely made me step out of my comfort zone a little, but I think Swimming Against the Tide is one of my fave fics of mine, and for sure a lot different from what I usually write!

7. @1dchristmasfest

Festive fics are some of my favourite to write and read. This was my second year participating in this fest, and I wrote Lights Out, a short domestic fluff fic with Harry and Louis decorating their Christmas tree when the power goes out. I always love reading all the fics that come out of this fest and look forward to it every year.

I hadn’t realised until now just how many fests I wrote for last year lmao. Maybe let’s not do that many for 2022…although it is only January and I’m already signed up for three and have my eye on a few more so not a good start haha!

Favorite fest/fic: I think I’d have to say the 1D Trick or Treat fest was my fave. I really loved the challenge of writing exactly 666 words and the little ficlet I ended up with is one of my favourite things I wrote last year. So many awesome spooky fics came out of it as well, loved it!

Fests you would love to do again this year (if they come back!): I definitely would love to do the 1DABO fic fest again, as well as Wordplay. And I for sure will write for the 1D Christmas Fest again if it comes back this year!

I’m going to keep this simple and do a general tag: If you’ve taken part in some fic fests in 2021 and feel like doing this, I’m tagging you! :)

This was my fourth year doing the @wordplayfics challenge. It was the hardest year for me so far. It resulted in the fewest words I’ve written across this challenge in all those years. It’s still one of my favorite fic things to do. Love and thanks to @lululawrence for running it. <3

Louis gets a little caught up in adoring Harry’s endearing breakfast-making habits. After breakfast, they both get a lot caught up in adoring each other’s bodies.

Zayn takes her new girlfriend for a drive.

A love story told by five swings who each were there to see a piece of it unfold.

Harry’s agreed to let someone else fuck Louis. As long as Louis describes it all to him as it’s happening.

Niall taking care of the bill has always turned Shawn on. Sometimes he feels the need to thank him immediately.

2022 Writing Goals: Halfway Home Check In

The always wonderful @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed tagged me to check on how I’m going with my 2022 writing goals. Thank you lovely and thank you for all the amazing writing sprints we’ve done together this year xx

You can find the post with my original goals here!

Do something writing-related every day, no matter how small - write, edit, outline, brainstorm, engage with my lovely readers, create moodboards/trailers, participate in tag games, chat with writing friends. I’m really happy to say that I have achieved this goal so far. I haven’t written every day, but I’ve made to sure to do something writing related even if it’s just replying to messages/comments.

Complete my planned fics for the Momrry Fest, Trope Mashup, 1D Song Fest, Big Bang, and ABO Fest. This is ongoing, of course, but my fics for the Momrry Fest, Trope Mashup, 1D Song Fest, Big Bang and all posted as planned. Thank you to everyone who read them and for all the lovely messages and comments. I’m due to post my ABO Fest fic later this month, I’ve signed up for the Harry’s House Fic Fest, and I’ll be writing for WordPlay this year too!

Branch out with a new independent fic to post as a WIP. I actually decided not to do this because I’m doing the fic I had planned for the Harry’s House fest instead!

Write another Advent Fic. This is still the plan! I’m hoping to get it started in September.

Work on my writing style and extend and challenge myself. This is one of those goals that is just something I’m working on every day. I’ve been really happy with what I’ve published this year, but I still have this yearning for something that feels radically different. Guess I’ll just see where inspiration takes me.
