I've come to realize that the most effective counter to The Hunger is to genuinely abandon all hope of sating it, merely doing a performance to oneself of giving up on feeding it does not fool it.

It is an insidious, horrid thing with a keen smell for the slivers of hope you did not know you still harbored.

On a slightly related note, I just got back from the club and it was by far the most bored I've been since I had to watch the walls for weeks at the psych ward.
