Where did you learn to draw the pokemon pixel art style so well? Do you know any video tutorials, or could you do a small post with the techniques you use? If not, that's okay

My interest in spriting started in I want to say 2012 or 2013 when I started binge watching pokemon fusion videos. mostly from creators like SuperSonicGX

Back In My Day we called completely original sprites scratch sprites, I still use that terminology and get confused when people don't these days. But that's just a side note. for resources and general tips I do have plenty!

this scorpion means everything to me.

When spriting in any style the first, most important rule is learning what limits you have. color, size, even specific palettes for some games.

For the first two generation pokemon games you had three separate sprite sizes, 40x40, 48x48, and 56x56, as seen here.

along side this requirement, these sprites also had four colors

white, also used for the background, black, a light tone, and a dark tone as seen with our friend Kingler here

the big rules to follow with spriting are remember to use space efficiently. Sometimes the whole canvas isn't needed to get the point of a sprite across!

techniques I personally use for spriting are used mostly during the sketching stage.

Such as blobbing in a silhouette and then filling it with rough color to get an idea of what to do, as seen here

helps immensely with the spriting process and means you can get sketches out very quickly.

I do want to make my own soft tutorials eventually, just timelapses to show off the process. But hopefully all this as is helps!

I just received some amazing gifts through the mail 😭

I’m flattening them with LoZ artbooks! Epona is a 40x40 cm print and the Hero of Time one is 60x60 (was curious to see if it would pixelate at that size but it doesn’t!)

I am SO HAPPY!! They’re going to need frames 😍

I also tried a few other things:

A notebook I'm in love with, an iPhone case for my sister, a print on metallic photo paper, a sticker and a magnet! And I'm still waiting for a few other things :)

The sticker and the magnet came out a bit blurry (my phone makes it worse haha), maybe because of the noise effect I applied to my files. I think it looks good on screen but maybe not that much on paper, especially in the case of small prints. That's what it looks like on the biggest one:

You have to look closely at the print to see it but I think it can be a problem. I'm going to attenuate that effect before I make the prints available, just to be sure.

All of these are from Redbubble but I only had the time to order them before they were deleted from my account. Looks like you can sell LoZ stuff on Redbubble as long as the main characters are not depicted, or something like that (Korok stickers for example). I think I’m going to try Society6 instead, they do sell Zelda prints.

I also got approved on Inprnt! I ordered samples from them too but it looks like it's going to take a while. Now that I’ve seen the Redbubble prints I think I'm going to get started anyway.

Pixel Art 11/08/23 - Hisuian Sneasel (Revengeance)

Hisuian Sneasel, again! I tried making Sneasler, but I had quite a bit of trouble with the pose and scale (If you see this today or tomorrow and you have a cool pose in mind, no guarantees, but I'd love to see a reference). I decided to start smaller and re-do my Hisuian Sneasel (I even made a snazzy little PLA symbol for this one). I think they turned out quite nice this time around; within a 40x40 pixel space, too. Had some trouble with the right foot and tail in particular, but even there it isn't half-bad.

City Builds by Sandy

In case you guys are unaware of these, our lovely Sandy, over @aroundthesims has created some totally beautiful deco city builds. This is just one of them, and believe me, it is gorgeous in-game. And OMG!!!! It is so frackin easy to get a really nice city build done in about 15 minutes. All you have to do is paint the sidewalk and parking lot areas, then plunk down some fountains and stuff. And viola! Done! I have been debating what to do with this lot - a 40x40 - for several days now, building junk then promptly bulldozing it, when a light went on in my tiny brain reminding me that I had seen these over on her site while looking for some urban decor. I am in love!

This is another one, on a smaller lot. All I had to do for it was the terrain painting, add some planters, parking meters, and benches and DONE!!! BTW, I also use @grandelama’s curb pieces to define my sidewalks and parking areas. So, a BIG thank you to him too! (Love your stuff!)

And here that last one is at night. Is that pretty or what?! I just sat and stared at it for a bit, it is so pretty at night. She has a nice variety too, so there are lot to choose from. Again, THANK YOU, Sandy!

I did actually work on my WIP today too. This is where I now have my PI office. It’s where Wimmie had her bar. 6 whole spaces wide. My poor sims would have been stomping their tiny, pixelated feet, getting themselves stuck and not knowing what to do.

The only thing I left from her build is the elevator. (It takes you up to the new bar). The rest I made into a PI office. I’m actually thinking of playing one in this town, since I’ve never done that before. And to be honest, when Ambitions came out and EA showed all the PI stuff, I foolishly thought they would have an actual office for your PI sims to go to and consult with clients - along with an architect’s office. I know, wishful thinking. Anyway, my sim can go here.

And here’s an overhead view of these 2 storefronts. As you can see, I have a music store. That was actually done by Wimmie. Well, sort of, since I added a lot of stuff to it - like that display window and a lot of posters and more instruments. Upstairs, I’ve added a recording studio. I was going to take some pics of that too, but my game crashed, as it is wont to do now that I have Windows 11.

What are trends when it comes to writing that you dislike?

Writing trends I'd say adding 5+ spaces between words. There was also some strange word people used instead of "eyes", but I can't remember it. And a few things I dislike from what I've seen on my indie dash (warning: smutty content going forward) - calling a d.ick "manhood" (idk why I always cringe) and calling the, khem, downstairs lips "petals". When I see this I always either cringe or laugh. I just can't xD

But visually, at one point there was a trend to use the tiniest icons, about 40x40 pixels. My eyesight is not great. It's not like I need glasses while using a computer, but seeing those small icons I got very annoyed, especially with those colorings that have crazy contrast and the icon eventually looks like it consists of 6 big pixels and I can't see shit.

Speaking of graphics, on my indie I have recently noticed a trend where gifs get blurred, but also sharpened, and in the end it looks kind of soft, but also details are so sharpened that they appear doubled?? It's hard to explain. For example, there should be one strand of hair, but because of the sharpening there are two identical, and it really fucks with my eyes, and my brain instantly thinks my eyesight is heavily blurred even though it is not.

Hey i hate this and don't know how to use traditional tools.

An attempted "40x40" potion bottle. 11/16 colors.

I still like the Idea of pixel art crossed with pointillism but I think graph paper would be Significantly easier to work with. Plus the canvas wasnt a good...uh canvas for 'pixels'
