Here’s unused content from my mota Crosby x Bubbles fic “and maybe if i hold you now”, but can be read alone!!! It’s basically just some fluff of Blakely’s crew after the October 8, 1943 mission to Bremen where Just-a-Snappin’ had gone down and their crew was presumed KIA. They returned late that night much to everyone’s surprise, though several of their crew were injured and one KIA.
Bubbles pulled off the path and into a gap a few buildings down from the interrogation hut. He glanced at his watch as he got out of the jeep. H-minus 0410. Inside, Blakely, Kidd, Douglass, Forkner, and Thornton were seated around a table with Colonel Harding. Standing behind the Colonel were several other members of Group Ops and lurking in the corner of the room with a dark look on his face was Bucky. Crosby walked around the table and sat in the empty chair between Blake and Doug. Bubbles nodded to the other members of Group Ops as he took his place beside them, across the table from Crosby.
“Glad you could finally join us, Lieutenant. Captain,” Harding addressed the pair.
“Sorry, Sir,” Bubbles spoke politely, stepping forward to place a document in front of him. “Lieutenant Crosby needed to be taken to the hospital to get checked out.”
“Lieutenant?” Harding turned to Crosby, who currently had his nose in his briefcase as he pulled out his logs and maps.
“Uh, yes, Sir,” Crosby confirmed. “Just a concussion, Sir.”
“We were just talkin’ ‘bout how you and Forky missed your calling to the Red Cross,” Doug grinned, tipping back in his chair back. His hand was wrapped in a bandage and his face was bruised but he looked to be in good spirits. Crosby was sure he didn’t look any better.
“I just did what Forky told me to,” Crosby protested. He flipped open his log book and shuffled through some maps.
Douglass ignored him, instead launching into his retelling of events. “Picture this, Croz is holding Charlie’s hands and smooth talkin’ him while he’s sitting on McClelland’s chest to keep the kid from climbing back in the ball,” Dougie boasted to all the flyboys around them. “All the while Forky is packing Charlie with our open parachutes and thawing a syringe of morphine in his mouth.”
“Let’s back up a bit now that we have the navigator’s logs,” the Colonel interrupted. “Try your best to remember what happened. Crosby, I hope your logs are as detailed as I hear.” Crosby’s head shot up, face taking on a red tint. He looked briefly from Harding to Bubbles and then back down to the logs in front of him.
“They will be, Sir,” Forky assured, smiling at the navigator. Blake nodded in agreement, resting an arm on the back of Crosby’s chair.
“Of course. Now let’s start from the top…”
☁️☁️☁️🔥✈️🔥☁️☁️🛬💥🌳
“... and then Croz starts talking about lamps…”
“Yeah! What was it he said? Two lamps or one?”
“By land, or by sea,” Forky added. Bubbles snorted, shaking his head as he suppressed a laugh. The others looked at him in confusion.
“Wait, was that supposed to be a joke, Croz?”
“Maybe?” the navigator admitted, not sounding too sure of himself.
“Paul Revere,” Bubbles inputs. There was no response and everyone shrugged. “Ya know...the British are coming?”
A chorus of ‘ooohhhhhhh’s broke out amongst the group.
“Yeah, well these are the Germans and they came at us by air so make that three lamps,” Blake interrupted.
☁️☁️☁️🔥✈️🔥☁️☁️🛬💥🌳
“Up ahead we spotted another Fort with some Messerschmitts smelling around.”
“They were playing with them,” Doug grimaced in disgust.
“No chutes. Unable to ID,” Crosby added.
“Yeah, then they turn to us and the Luftwaffe, they just don’t stop coming but we took care of them.”
“That’s what happens when you have dead-eye gunners,” Crosby smiled at the man next to him. Doug leaned over and bumped shoulders with him.
“How many do you have noted in total?”
Crosby ran a finger down the page as he read the columns of his notes. He flipped to the next page. “I’ve got two for Via; two for Doug; two for Mac; two-no three for Thorny; one for Yevich and one for Nord.”
“That’s what, eleven?”
“Yes, sir. I have the IDs where observed in my logs,” Crosby confirmed.
Someone let out a low whistle.
☁️☁️☁️🔥✈️🔥☁️☁️🛬💥🌳
Crosby kept his head down as he quietly gathered his papers. Bucky’s footsteps echoed thunderously in the near-empty room, punctuated by the slamming of the front door.
“Don’t worry about him, Croz,” Kidd spoke softly, squeezing his shoulder.
“I should have paid closer attention,” Crosby shook his head.
“You did everything you could,” Blakely reassured him, lighting a cigarette. “There was so much solid flak, you could almost slice it like cake.”
“And I’m not sure there was anything you could have said that would give him the closure he’s looking for,” Douglass put a hand on his shoulder and stood. “Now, come on, I’m starving.”

Han and Minho gave you a lift back home that day. You wanted to talk to Minho, and ask him if there was something bothering him, but the mood didn’t feel quite right. Han was happily chatting away about something or other and you and Minho simply went along with it.
You had hoped to talk to him when you’d arrive home, but as soon as you entered the house the commotion of daily life with the boys instantly swept the thought from your mind.
‘Han, you’ve got post!’ Jeongin called out as the three of you kicked off your shoes and hung your coats.
‘Post? For me?’ Han spoke, sounding pleasantly surprised. He walked into the kitchen where the Jeongin’s voice was coming from. You followed him curiously, walking in on Jeongin holding a giant bouquet of bright-coloured flowers, which was so large that it obstructed most of his features.
‘Wow,’ the word slipped out of your mouth at the sight of the bright pink, orange and yellow petals.
‘You can say that again,’ Felix said with a chuckle, walking past you carrying something that closely resembled a large bucket. He put it in the middle of the dining table and turned to Han. ‘I couldn’t find a vase large enough to fit the bouquet so I guess this’ll have to do for now.’
‘Holy hell, who’d send you this big a bouquet?’ Minho asked surprised as he too stepped into the kitchen. Your attention shifted from the boys to him, remembering in that slight moment the scene from earlier that day.
Han simply chuckled, breaking you from your thoughts again and walked over to Jeongin.
‘You can hand them to me now, I’ll put them in,’ Han offered.
‘Thank god, I swear, these are heavier than they look,’ Jeongin puffed as he handed Han the bouquet.
‘Am home,’ Hyunjin’s voice shouted from the hallway. All of you made a noise to greet him.
‘Wow, who’s got a new suitor?’ Hyunjin huffed when he saw Han struggle slightly to get all the flowers into the bucket as he walked into the kitchen.
‘It’s not from a suitor,’ Han said as he finally managed to put everything back in. ‘Can’t you see what these are?’
You took a few steps closer to study the plants but other than them being pretty and colourful flowers, you had no idea. Apparently, neither did the others as they all looked at Han with raised brows. Han sighed.
‘They’re Zinnia’s,’ he spoke as if it made absolute sense and explained everything. Han clicked his tongue as everyone still stared at him. ‘You guys never listen to me whenever I tell you stuff about plants and flowers do you?’ He grumbled.
‘Not really,’ Jeongin said with a shrug.
‘Nope,’ Hyunjin said, shaking his head.
‘Not at all,’ Minho remarked. Felix simply smiled guiltily.
‘Ugh, alright Zinnia’s are a very resilient and adaptable plant. There are about fourteen different types and-’ Han started to explain as he fondly looked at the petals of the flowers.
‘Yes- but what do they mean?’ Jeongin interrupted impatiently. Han gave him a destructive look but then spoke.
‘Thoughts of an absent friend,’ He said simply. ‘I got them from Hoseok,’ he added, pulling a card from between the flowers that none of you had noticed before and showing it to you.
You all nodded understandingly now which only made Han roll his eyes before he started to play with the positioning of the flowers, admiring them like they were made of glass and carefully rearranging them.
‘Oh, right, there’s something for you too Hyunjin,’ Felix suddenly remembered. He walked over to the kitchen counter and picked up a heavy and canvas textured envelope, their address embossed in gold foil and handed it to Hyunjin.
Hyunjin looked at it frowning and unpacked it. There was a matching themed letter inside and he read through it quickly. You couldn’t help but watch Hyunjin’s expressions to try to get a feeling of what he was reading.
‘Guys?’ Changbin’s voice sounded from the hallway.
‘Kitchen!’ You, Minho, Jeongin, Han and Felix called out simultaneously. Changbin came walking into the kitchen, raising his eyebrows at seeing you all gathered there.
‘Wow, is someone getting married?’ He asked when he saw the gigantic bouquet of flowers.
‘Han got them from Hoseok,’ you explained to him quickly.
‘Ah that happy fellow,’ Changbin said with an understanding nod, sitting down on one of the dining table chairs.
‘Oh. My. God,’ Hyunjin said suddenly.
‘What?’ Felix asked quickly, rushing over to stand next to Hyunjin and read the letter with him.
‘Namjoon invited us all to the opening of the Still Life exhibition!’ Hyunjin exclaimed excitedly. He turned and grabbed Felix’s cheeks and squished them before kissing him on his forehead.
‘Erm, how nice of him?’ Felix said, looking and sounding perplexed while Hyunjin was basically dancing through the kitchen.
‘He said he would, but honestly, I didn’t think- Anyway, do you know how hard it is to get tickets?’ Hyunjin almost sang, seemingly overcome with joy.
‘No,’ Jeongin said simply, sounding quite uninterested.
‘It’s impossible! You can only go there if you’re invited! I can’t believe we’ve been invited. This event was predicted to be the biggest and most important art event of the year! Art connoisseurs from all over the country will be there, important businessmen too, not to mention all the possible clients,’ Hyunjin said with a dreamy glow in his eyes. You couldn’t help but grin at the sight of him. You hadn’t seen Hyunjin this happy with something for a while, and seeing him making all kinds of aegyo faces, there was no way your heart wouldn’t melt for him. And the way his lips pouted as he danced around made you want to just kiss those plump pillows of his.
‘When is it?’ you asked him, walking over to stand next to him and Felix, reading over his shoulder at the invitation
‘It’ll be on the 25th, so soon! Oh my, I have so many things to prepare for it. I’ll have to get a new suit too. You guys should all probably buy new suits as well since-’ Hyunjin said, directing himself to the other guys.
‘Erm, I’ll be too busy with the exams then,’ Han said quickly, scurrying off and out of the kitchen.
‘Me too,’ Minho said, quickly following his mate.
‘Oh, erm, sorry Hyunjin, I have a vets-conference then,’ Felix said, looking slightly uncomfortable and quickly walking away too.
‘I got a fundraiser I’m hosting for the fire brigade,’ Changbin said dismissively, waving his hand before getting up and walking towards the living room.
Hyunjin’s face started to falter and he looked hopefully at Jeongin, who suddenly realised he was the last of the guys left, and quickly mumbled something about having to knit a new bed sheet for himself before running off too.
Hyunjin’s face looked like one of a beaten puppy and your heart broke for him.
‘I’ll definitely go with you,’ you said quickly with an encouraging smile, looking up at him with reassurance.
‘Really?’ He asked, his face instantly lighting up again.
‘Of course! Sounds like fun,’ you said genuinely.
Tumblr media
‘So who sent those Zinnia's?’ Seugnmin asked during dinner. You looked up at him, surprised he’d know what kind of flowers they were, and for a moment you could’ve sworn you saw his eyes flicker at you, but it was gone too fast to be sure.
‘Hoseok sent them to me!’ Han said enthusiastically. He was about to say more but Seungmin interrupted him.
‘How nice,’ he said, but his voice was slightly dull and uninterested.
‘Oh, Chan,’ Hyunjin interrupted the conversation, looking up with a slightly hopeful expression on his face. ‘That reminds me, Namjoon sent us an invitation to come to the opening of the Still Life exhibition at his museum. It’s on the 25th and-,’
‘He’ll be assisting me with the fundraiser,’ Changbin spoke, putting his arm around Chan’s neck and pulling him into a weird sort of half hug half headlock.
‘Oh,’ Hyunjin said, his face dropping once more. ‘I thought you just said that as an excuse,’ he mumbled under his breath.
‘I’m sorry Jinnie,’ Chan said, genuine regret sounding in his smothered voice as Changbin was still holding him in a headlock he was trying to free himself from.
‘And what’s your excuse?’ Hyunjin sighed, looking over at Seungmin dully.
‘I don’t need an excuse,’ Seungmin said, taking a sip of his glass of water. For a moment you could see a slight sparkle in Hyunjin’s eyes, but then Seungmin spoke again. ‘I’m simply not interested. So, no thanks,’
Hyunjin was already opening his mouth, his face looking annoyed and hurt, but without really thinking about it, you quickly put your hand on his thigh. Hyunjin closed his mouth and looked over at you. You met his eyes with a soft smile, carefully squeezing his thigh lightly. He sighed softly and nodded almost imperceptibly, shutting his mouth again and putting his and on yours.
‘I swear Lino, if you ever decide to quit teaching, you should really start your own restaurant. This beef Wellington is excellent,’ Jeongin spoke, not at all seeming to notice what was going on around him.
‘What do you think y/n?’ Lino asked, suddenly directing himself towards you. Everyone instantly looked up at you at the mention of your name and the sudden shift in attention caught you by surprise, quickly letting go of Hyunjin’s hand under the table and withdrawing it.
‘Would you like to taste more of my meat??’ He said with a playful grin. The double innuendo made your ears grow pink instantly.
Tumblr media
‘Adam?’ You whispered at the blonde scarfaced boy sitting across from you.
‘Hm?’ He hummed, not looking up from the book he was reading.
You looked around you, trying to talk as quietly as possible since you were seated in the library.
‘Do you know anything about art?’ You continued. Adam simply hummed again vaguely, clearly not at all listening to you. You kicked him under the table and he quickly jolted upright.
‘What?’ He hissed, looking startled and confused.
‘Art,’ you repeated. ‘Do you know anything about art?’
‘Erm, a little. But most of what I know is on European art. Why?’ He spoke back in the same hushed voice.
‘I erm,’ you began, hesitating for a second, and trying to think of how you wanted to explain the situation to him.
‘Wait, don’t tell me,’ Adam began, a playful grin on his face, ‘you’re going on a date again, aren’t you?’
‘Shut up,’ you hissed, but you couldn’t help but pout.
‘You know’ he began, still with that playful grin on his face, ‘I have to admit, as your friend, I’m still kinda curious as to which one of your housemates you like. I mean, I guess they’re all equally good-looking, but regarding their characters, I can’t help but be curious as to-‘Before he could finish his sentence you kicked him again underneath the table. Adam hissed angrily as he rubbed his painful shins and you snarled at him.
‘Fine! Fine,’ he added in a softer tone, as some students looked over annoyed by the noise he was making. ‘I won’t ask anymore,’
‘But what do you know about art?’ You repeated. Adam gave you a sour look, still rubbing his shin annoyed but when you pouted again and batted your eyelashes at him, he gave in.
‘As I said, not much.’ He whispered with a shrug. ‘I’m only familiar with the old European painters. But art, it’s such a broad concept. It’s not just paintings.’
‘Right,’ you said, thinking for a moment. ‘Then what do you know about still life art?’ You decided to ask. Adam frowned, thinking for a second. He had stopped rubbing his shin, although his leg was still drawn up.
‘They’re mostly paintings of fruit bowls and vases, right?’ He said unsure, then shrugged, ‘Sorry I don’t know much about it,’ he shook his head, ‘art never really had my interest,’
You hummed and tried to return your interest to your book, but it was of no use. As the art exhibition was creeping nearer and nearer, you were steadily becoming more nervous about it. The truth was, you didn’t know much about art at all. You had always loved to listen to Hyunjin telling you about it, and although you did not always quite get what he was trying to explain to you, you did understand why it was so important to a lot of people. There had been some pieces in the past that he had shown you that you had liked very much or even made you feel things. You also knew a little about the different styles, painting techniques and forms of art, but you were quite sure that in the face of a true art exhibition, you’d be completely clueless. Since you were the only one going with Hyunjin, it was very important to you that he would enjoy his time there, have someone by his side who’d understand what he was saying or why he liked something. You wanted to make him happy. Besides, he had also said that there’d be a lot of important art connoisseurs and business people there, and you did not want to make yourself or Hyunjin look like a fool.
‘Speaking of interest,’ Adam said suddenly, pulling you out of your thoughts and making you look up again. Adam wasn't looking at you but at a point slightly higher, somewhere behind you. ‘Your housemate seems to be very interested in that one particular page. He’s been staring at it for ages.’
You turned around in your seat and looked. It took you a second before you spotted him, but Minho was standing half-hidden behind one of the bookshelves, staring blankly at the opened book in his hand, his eyes unmoving.
You had never before seen Minho in the library before. Just like with the cafeteria, Han and Minho used to avoid these public places as much as they could, so as to not draw too much attention to themselves. Sure enough, similar to when he had entered the cafeteria, a small group of girls were standing looking at him. But since this was the library, this time they did not approach him and their giggles and whispers were stifled behind their hands.
‘Lino,’ his name left your mouth in a whisper. As if he was able to hear it, Minho’s eyes left the page and met yours. For a moment his piercing dark eyes locked onto yours and once again, you had this strange feeling that something was going on, that there was something bothering him, or something he wanted to say to you. But before you could even take another breath his eyes tore away from yours and he closed the book shut, putting it back on the shelf. Without saying another word, or even indicating that he had seen you, he left the library. You got up from your seat, half wanting to go after him.
‘He’s an unusual one,’ Adam's voice said unsure. ‘Did you two get into a fight or something?’
Adam’s question pulled you back and you sat down again, still staring at the door where he disappeared through. You tried to think back, see if you could remember if you had fought with him, but nothing came up. Nor could you remember saying something that might’ve hurt him. What on earth was going on?
‘No,’ you said, but still feeling unsure.
Tumblr media
However unusual Minho had been acting previously, he didn’t show it at home. His behaviour at home was not at all different or unusual, and that look he had given you before seemed almost like you had imagined it. You were still hesitant to talk to him about it, especially since he acted so normal at home. Had you simply imagined it? Maybe it had been a coincidence that you had run into him twice before at unusual spots, or maybe you had imagined whatever that look had been.
He seemed so calm and cheerful at home, and you were afraid that talking to him about what you had thought you had seen made you look like you were imagining things.
Tumblr media
‘So I talked to Namjoon and he asked me if I wanted to submit a piece for the exhibit!’ Hyunjin said eagerly as the two of you cleaned up the table after dinner.
‘Hm,’ you said, still too much in your own head to really hear what he had said. Suddenly you felt a hand on your shoulder and you have a slight start.
‘Y/n, are you alright?’ Hyunjin asked softly. You looked up at him, the pink locks of his hair falling in front of his face as he looked down at you with a slight crease between his brows.
‘What? Oh sorry, yes I’m fine, just school stuff,’ you lied, waving your hand and pushing the thought of Minho out of your head. ‘Wait, what did Namjoon say?’ You asked.
‘He wanted me to submit a piece for the exhibit,’ Hyunjin said with a happy grin.
‘Oh my, Jinnie, that’s wonderful!’ you said excitedly, genuinely happy for him.
‘Thank you Y/n,’ He said softly, ‘It’s going to be difficult though, finding the right piece. I don’t even know if I have something that he’ll like. Maybe I shouldn’t use my own paintings, but just find something fitting instead, seeing that the deadline is so soon already,’ he pondered aloud.
A weird itch inside you, clawed at you, leaving you slightly unsettled. It wasn’t hard to know what it was though, you knew exactly what your problem was. Deciding to be upfront about it you took a deep breath and spoke.
‘Jinnie?’ you began, piling all the dirty cutlery you had collected onto one of the plates as Hyunjin collected the empty glasses.
‘Yes honey?’ he said casually, but the sweet nickname never failed to give you butterflies.
‘I… I don’t know much about art,’ you began hesitantly. Hyunjin stopped collecting the glasses and looked at you. ‘It’s just- it’s such an important event, and there’ll probably be many people there, and…’ you stammered.
Hyunjin put the glasses down and cupped your face with his hands, his face soft as he looked at you.
‘You don’t have to go if you don’t want to, my love. If you’re just going because the others-’ he began but you interrupted him quickly.
‘I want to go!’ you said quickly, you didn’t want him to get the wrong idea. ‘I do, really,’ you repeated, trying to make him understand. ‘It’s just… I don’t want to look dumb,’ you whispered the feeling that gnawed at you. For a moment Hyunjin looked at you in surprise as he raised an eyebrow. Then he chuckled softly and kissed your forehead.
‘Don’t you worry about that y/n, half of the people that go there don’t know anything about art either,’ he tried to assure you, but it didn’t work.
‘But you know so much, and I’ll just be by your side, having nothing to say and looking dumb,’ you pouted, looking at the ground.
‘There’s nothing wrong with being a sexy piece of arm candy either, you know,’ Hyunjin whispered in your ear. Although his words made your spine tingle, you still weren’t convinced, but this time Hyunjin knew. ‘But if you insist, how about I give you an art crash course before? Would that help you?’ he suggested sweetly, letting go of your face and putting his hands on your shoulders.
Your ears instantly perked up at the idea. You weren’t sure how much Hyunjin would be able to teach you in such little time, but anything would be better than nothing.
‘You sure you have the time for that?’ you asked, thinking about how he had just been saying time would be tight in finding the right piece for the exhibit. Hyunjin shook his head and chuckled, drawing you into his arms and hugging you tightly.
‘Baby for you, I will make time,’ he whispered in your ear. You quickly buried your reddening face into his chest, hoping he wouldn’t see.

100 reasons not to kill yourself
1. We would miss you.
2. It’s not worth the regret. Either by yourself if you failed or just simply left scars, or the regret everyone else feels by not doing enough to help you.
3. It does get better. Believe it or not it will eventually get better. Sometimes you have to go through the storm to get to the rainbow.
4. There’s so much you would miss out on doing.
5. There is always a reason to live. It might not be clear right now, but it is always there.
6. So many people care, and it would hurt them if you hurt yourself.
7. You ARE worth it. Don’t let anyone, especially yourself, tell you otherwise.
8. You are amazing.
9. A time will come, once you’ve battled the toughest times of your life and are in ease once again, where you will be so glad that you decided to keep on living. You will emerge stronger from this all, and won’t regret your choice to carry on with life. Because things always get better.
10. What about all the things you’ve always wanted to do? What about the things you’ve planned, but never got around to doing? You can’t do them when you’re dead.
11. I love you. Even if only one person loves you, that’s still a reason to stay alive.
12. You won’t be able to listen to music if you die.
13. Killing yourself is never worth it. You’ll hurt both yourself and all the people you care about.
14. There are so many people that would miss you, including me.
15. You’re preventing a future generation, YOUR KIDS, from even being born.
16. How do you think your family would feel? Would it improve their lives if you died?
17. You’re gorgeous, amazing, and to someone you are perfect.
18. Think about your favourite music artist, you’ll never hear their voice again…
19. You’ll never have the feeling of walking into a warm building on a cold day

98. being able to hug that one person you havent seen in years
99. People care enough about you and your future to come up with 100 reasons for you not to do this.
100. But, the final and most important one is, just, being able to experience life. Because even if your life doesn’t seem so great right now, literally anything could happen

18. Think about your favourite music artist, you’ll never hear their voice again… 19. You’ll never have the feeling of walking into a warm building on a cold day 20. Listening to incredibly loud music 21. Being alive is just really good. 22. Not being alive is really bad. 23. Finding your soulmate. 24. Red pandas 25. Going to diners at three in the morning. 26. Really soft pillows. 27. Eating pizza in New York City. 28. Proving people wrong with your success. 29. Watching the jerks that doubted you fail at life. 30. Seeing someone trip over a garbage can. 31. Being able to help other people. 32. Bonfires. 33. Sitting on rooftops. 34. Seeing every single country in the world. 35. Going on roadtrips. 36. You might win the lottery someday. 37. Listening to music on a record player. 38. Going to the top of the Eiffel Tower. 39. Taking really cool pictures. 40. Literally meeting thousands of new people. 41. Hearing crazy stories. 42. Telling crazy stories. 43. Eating ice cream on a hot day. 44. More Harry Potter books could come out, you never know. 45. Travelling to another planet someday. 46. Having an underwater house. 47. Randomly running into your hero on the street. 48. Having your own room at a fancy hotel. 49. Trampolines. 50. Think about your favourite movie, you’ll never watch it again. 51. Think about the feeling of laughing out loud in a public place because your best friend has just sent you an inside joke, 52. Your survival will make the world better, even if it’s for just one person or 20 or 100 or more. 53. People do care. 54. Treehouses 55. Hanging out with your soul mate in a treehouse 55. Snorting when you laugh and not caring who sees 56. I don’t even know you and I love you. 57. I don’t even know you and I care about you. 58. Because nobody is going to be like you ever, so embrace your uniqueness! 59. You won’t be here to experience the first cat world emperor. 60. WHAT ABOUT FOOD?! YOU’LL MISS CHOCOLATE AND ALL THE OTHER NOM THINGS! 61. Starbucks. 62. Hugs. 63. Stargazing. 64. You have a purpose, and it’s up to you to find out what it is. 65. You’ve changed somebody’s life. 66. Now you could change the world. 67. You will meet the person that’s perfect for you. 68. No matter how much or how little, you have your life ahead of you. 69. You have the chance to save somebody’s life. 70. If you end your life, you’re stopping yourself from achieving great things. 71. Making snow angels. 72. Making snowmen. 73. Snowball fights. 74. Life is what you make of it. 75. Everybody has a talent. 76. Laughing until you cry. 77. Having the ability to be sad means you have the ability to be happy. 78. The world would not be the same if you didn’t exist. 79. Its possible to turn frowns, upside down 80. Be yourself, don’t take anyone’s shit, and never let them take you alive. 81. Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary. Be your own hero. 82. Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections. 83. One day your smile will be real. 84. Having a really hot, relaxing bath after a stressful day. 85. Lying on grass and laughing at the clouds. 86. Getting completely smashed with your best friends. 87. Eating crazy food. 88. Staying up all night watching your favourite films with a loved one. 89. Sleeping in all day. 90. Creating something you’re proud of. 91. You can look back on yourself 70 years later and being proud you didn’t commit 92. Being able to meet your Internet friends. 93. Tea / Coffee / Hot Chocolate 94. Sherlock season three. 95. Cuddling under the stars. 96. Being stupid in public because you just can. 97. If you are reading this then you are alive! Is there any more reason to smile? 98. being able to hug that one person you havent seen in years 99. People care enough about you and your future to come up with 100 reasons for you not to do this. 100. But, the final and most important one is, just, being able to experience life. Rosie’s Riveters was the only aircraft to return from the mission to Münster on October 10, 1943 and it was no easy task getting home.
Blakely’s crew in 42-3393 Just-a-Snappin’ had to go through something similar on their return from the mission to Bremen as they had to drop out of formation and make the trek home by themselves. I think Blakely and the rest of his crew deserve a little bit of recognition too;
Bremen had the worst flak they’d ever seen. "There was so much solid flak, you could almost slice it like cake” said pilot Ev Blakely
Flak destroys the number four engine, left elevator, and stabilizer as well as cracks the nose sending shrapnel into the Bombardier and Navigator
They catch on fire, but their electrics are gone so they can’t use the fire extinguisher. The only way to put it out is to drop out of formation and head straight into a steep dive in hopes it blows it out, which Ev Blakely is miraculously able to do
Have to limp back well over 200 miles to get to base with a max speed of 120 mph (at 100 mph the aircraft would stall and drop out of the sky) and immediately watch the only other Fort near them explode in a ball of flames thanks to enemy fighters
Smashed shortwave radio forced Forky, the radio operator, to send out an SOS by touching two wires together and praying
They were a sitting duck for the enemy fighters as they limped back to base at a mere 120 mph (at 100 mph the aircraft would stall and drop out of the sky)
Compass was stuck so Crosby had to navigate using the position of the sun with near-constant course corrections
They are credited with taking out at least 11 enemy fighters on their way home but not without their own injuries. Three of their crew are seriously wounded, one has a three-inch hole in their stomach, half of one’s face was scalped, and the other had the entire lower half of their body crushed and bleeding
You know engine number four? Yeah, it’s on fire again so time for another dive and it’s a miracle it went out again
But now they’ve got to salvo literally everything out into the channel from the spent cartridges laying on the floor to their woolen flying clothes, including their boots
Their dinghies were shot to pieces by the German fighters (and Crosby accidentally pulled the emergency handle on the hatch in the nose) so landing in the water ain’t an option
Everyone who’s not flying goes to help the wounded, packing their wounds with their open parachutes and warming up the frozen morphine applicators (?) in their mouths
Now they’re coming in for a crash landing at a dummy UK base with literally zero control surfaces so Blakely and Kidd were piloting using pure strength. The rest of the crew go back to the waist and hold onto the injured men, like hold them to their chests, so that they aren’t further injured in the landing
Their brakes go out as they land and they’re sent careening into the only tree in the entire airfield, crushing the nose of the aircraft and sending tree branches and leaves through all of the windows and compartments (click for pics)
They just kind of sat there? Until someone came and was like “hey you need help?”
They want nothing more than something to eat but instead are stuck watching some officer count 1200 holes (no, not 800) before giving up because there’s too many
So now they had a hour long drive back to base, those who didn’t get sent to the hospital that is, only for the mess halls to be closed, all their stuff locked up in storage, and everyone looking at them like they were ghosts. But on the bright side, every man in the o-club tried to hand their drinks to them
Add-on:
In the end, 7 of her crew were injured and one fatally so. Most of the men would never fly another mission.

100 Reasons to Not  Kill Yourself

Decorative Leather Techniques

“Leather Decoration an Overview: Decorative Techniques Used
The decorative motifs in medieval leatherwork often seem to echo designs in other media, including stone sculpture and illuminated manuscripts. (Cowgill 40 – 41) The concept of horror vacui is prevalent – the idea that designs be adapted to fill the visible space. (Cowgill 42) This is seen from scabbards to shoes, from belts to boxes. Symmetry and balance are also important design elements. In some cases, the imagery on leather items is very similar to that on woodcuts, with rather flat designs and cross-hatching to delineate background from foreground. Other designs incorporate fairly high relief to create more realism. Color is used to enhance these effects. Abstract designs of floral work and interlace are also very common. The workmanship on medieval leather items ranges from fairly simple and crude to incredibly ornate and skillful.
Based upon images in medieval manuscripts and paintings, many leather items like shoes and accessories were brightly colored. Leather dye soaks into the item to provide all over coloring. A variety of dyes for leather were recorded in The Plictho, a 1548 Italian dye manual by Gioanventura Rosetti. Ways to color leather red, blue, green, yellow, and black were included. (Rosetti 65 - 83; 159 - 180) [...]
Examples of dyes used on vegetable tanned leather are even rarer. There is one simple method to dye vegetable tanned leather black that has been used for a very long time, however. It uses a chemical reaction between the tannins in the leather and iron oxide. This reaction is the basis for oak gall ink, recorded in On Divers Arts by Theophilus in the 12th century (Theophilus 42 - 43). Vegetable tanned leather exposed to rusty water (or a combination of iron and vinegar) will quickly turn black. This is now being used as a spot testto check the tannage of unknown pieces of leather found on archaeological sites. (van-Driel Murray, 2000 316) This reaction also occurs when leather is in contact with iron-rich soil. This can significantly change the color of leather items after burial, making it hard to determine the original color and decoration.
Leather items were also brightly painted, although little paint survives in archaeological contexts. There are several extant European examples of cases painted in a variety of colors, including red, white, and yellow in the German Leather Museum. (Figures 1 – 7) Many of these have a black background, which could either be black paint, or the black iron oxide dye. Traces of cinnabar (vermillion) paint have been found on a girdle from Anglo- Saxon York, (Mould et. al. 3393) as well as on two scabbards from medieval London. (Cowgill 40) In his treatise Il Libro dell'Arte (The Craftsman's Handbook), Cennino Cennini mentions that leather should be coated with gesso before being painted. (108) Oil paints and egg tempera paint will work on leather, but the included examples are probably oil based paint.
The application of gold leaf was used on expensive leather items, particularly book bindings, religious cases, and showpieces like parade shields. This was a very specialized process, since it involved stamping the leather two times with each stamp – once to form the impression and then again to apply the gold. (Waterer, 1968 38; Gall, 1967 28) The stamps had convex decorations, which when pressed on the leather made sunken designs to hold the gold and keep it from getting worn off. They were usually heated, which helped the design stay crisp, since books were often covered in alum tawed leather, which doesnt take stamping very well. (Salaman 1) To apply the gold, the leather was covered with a base coat (usually red paint), followed by a coating of glair (egg white, vinegar, and water) – a process very similar to how gold was applied to illuminations. (Salaman 8; Gall, 1967 28) (Figure 7) [...]
Vegetable tanned leather can be molded into fairly complex shapes, depending on the heat of the water used to dampen it. Cuir bouilli (boiled leather) is a technique used to make very hard leather items like armor and drinking vessels. The water should not be boiling; the best temperature is between 140 and 180°F, based upon personal experience and other re-creationist experiments. Once soaked in the hot water, the leather becomes very elastic and stretchy, and can be formed into curves and shapes. Once it cools, it can still be molded, but not to a great extent. After such heating, the leather is more compact and significantly harder. Leather items can also be dried in an oven on low temperature (approximately 150°F or so) until all the water is evaporated. Such items need a last (mold form) inside to keep the leather from flattening while drying. [...] Items hardened in this way can also be decorated with paints, dyes, and stamping, although stamping must be done after the initial soaking and stretching, but before the final drying for the design to remain clear on the leather. (Figure 12)
Stamping (called engraving or punching in some sources) is probably the most common method of decorating vegetable tanned leather. It depresses areas of the leather, creating designs. The leather is dampened, and then a metal or wooden stamp is pressed into the leather, usually by hitting it with a mallet. Brass or clean (not rusted) iron is used for such tools to prevent dark marks on the leather.
Stamping is easily recognized on items with repeating single motifs, especially on book bindings and scabbards. Many of the stamps were quite simple designs like fleur-de-lis, cinquefoils, and latticework, but more complex designs have also been found. (Figures 13) [...] In contrast to single motif stamps that create a specific image, some designs were created by using a stamp to fill in the background, creating a picture in the negative space. Such designs are contrasted with single motif images because multiple copies of the same subject arent identical. (Cowgill 43; Egan and Pritchard 46) (Figure 3, 4, 6, 14) Backgrounds of round pimpling (Figure 14) were very common.
[...] Designs can also be pressed into the leather using flat and pointed tools that are not hit with a mallet. This technique is called modeling (or engraving in some sources), and can be used to create rounded shapes and figures, and free-form floral designs. These specialized tools can be used much like pencils, with harder pressure making deeper designs. [...]
In contrast to stamping and modeling, embossing pushes the leather up from the underside to make the designs. These appear as low relief raised decoration. Embossed areas often include a leather plug that supports the raised up portions of the design from behind. Most embossed leather items are made from wood and covered with leather, such as box lids or shield covers. This makes it difficult to tell if the design was made from the back (embossing) or from the front (modeling) – in fact, some authors do not distinguish between the two forms. (Cowgill 42) (Figures 1, 4, 5) [...]
Many of these techniques were combined into large scale items, usually boxes and cases covered in leather. (Figures 1 – 7) The German Leather Museum has several cases that appear to combine incising, stamping, and modeling-embossed areas, many of which are brightly painted. Several crown and coronet cases, as well as cases to hold relics and other religious items, are still preserved in museums – often with the original contents. These cases contain a variety of design styles. Many have an all over design of scrollwork, while others display mythological and religious scenes, such as interpretations of Saint George and the Dragon. (Figure 5) Heraldic displays often accompany crown cases, presumably the arms of the royalty.
Comparison to Modern Re-creationist Leatherwork
Modern re-creationists recognize the necessity of leather for items like shoes, belts, and pouches. Items covered in leather, such as boxes, chests, and carrying cases, seem rarer, however. These items appear to have been very common in medieval Europe, but usually arent seen at modern re-creationist events. Many garments would also have been made or trimmed in leather, but are not commonly used by re-creationists.
[...] Most items are not decorated correctly, however. Some re-creationists assume there was no decoration or color at all, based upon utilitarian items found at excavation sites. This is because the leather from these sites comes out of the ground a uniform brown/black color, and most items do not show any original coloration at all. [...]
At the opposite extreme, floral scroll work is common to both modern and medieval leatherwork, but is rarely used for decoration by the re-creationist. The Western Floral and Sheridan type of work is very similar to the scrollwork on many of the cases and boxes, with flowing Acanthus leaves and open circles for specialized decoration. But this type of design is not often pursued by the modern re-creationist. Compare Figure 15 to Figure 18 to see the similarities and differences in the floral work.
In addition to these examples of period designs and how they are used (or not used) by the modern re- creationist, the way space is filled in can be very different between the modern and extant examples. Many modern examples often contain just one design element, with lots of open space. As can be seen on the extant examples, this was not usually the case for medieval leather items. Virtually all of the items from the German Leather Museum appear to have all visible surfaces covered with designs, some of which do not seem to fit with the main design. This includes small vignette scenes on the sides of boxes, as well as corner decorations that complement the central image. All over designs, and those with all over backgrounds, appear to be almost completely absent in modern re-creationist leatherwork. [...]
The use of color has changed significantly as well. The variety of colors on the German museum pieces is amazing. With the greater range of colors in acrylic paint available to the modern re-creationist, the pure heraldic hues would be easy to reproduce. Most modern leather items are only dyed or very simply painted, though. Painting an entire piece is usually not done, and modern leather dye doesn’t create the same effect seen on the painted originals. Modern leatherworkers will use stains and antiquing techniques to highlight the grain structure, letting the leather show through. The re-creationist leatherworker seems to follow this practice, which appears to be a modern aesthetic rather than a medieval one, based upon the highly painted examples.
Summary
[...] And the tools of a modern leatherworker may be of zinc covered steel instead of brass or wood, but many of the stamp designs available now would not be out of place in a medieval workshop.
[...] Modern, rather than medieval, ideas and uses of decorative techniques seem to dominate in re-creationist leatherwork. While these obviously appeal to the modern person, they are not the same as what a medieval European would appreciate in leatherwork. Items decorated in such a way would probably seem very strange and out of place, based upon the extant examples - just as some of those examples seem garish and not what was expected to the modern re-creationist. This difference in appeal is at the heart of the aesthetic difference and makes recreating accurate items difficult.
The reasons for the aesthetic difference between modern and medieval leatherwork can be hard to pin down.
