[131] Probate of Timothy Packard of Bridgewater, 1782, case no. 15185, Massachusetts, Plymouth County, Probate Estate Files, images 266, 268, 270, 273, 277, 278, 279, 280, 284, 286, 288, 290, 291, 293, 296, 298, 300, 302, 304, 306, 308 of 1333. On April 3, 1783, his estate was divided between Abiah and Ebenezer Packard, Matthew Kingman, Sarah Packard (Timothy’s wife), Bethuel Packard (a son), Calvin Packard (a son), Luther Packard (a son), and Josiah Edson Packard (a son). As a result of this agreement, in Aug, 1783, Sarah sold ten acres of land given to Josiah but since she is a guardian she has the legal right to sell it. In June 1793, there is a sale of Timothy’s estate which consists of 22 acres of land, paying her son Josiah the money from the land even though she is the guardian. Bethual Packard becomes Luther’s guardian in Feb. 1783, being under 14 years of age. See the Find A Grave records for Timothy, Luther, Sarah, and Sarah Alden.

He also owns books and apparel, the bed of a widow (his late wife), other beds and furniture, tables, chairs, tubs, trays, wooden dishes & other lumber, iron and brass vessels, fire tools, pewter, glass, and earthen vessels and spoons, iron objects, lot of meadow, part of lots in Cedar Swamp, fifth part of two twenty acre lots. He must have known he was sick because on July 23 he divided his land up with four of his sons (Solomon, James, Zaccheus, and John): The land is that which follows the East side of the Salisbury river, consisting of 11 acres, which is divided up, and 2 which are not. All of those acres are part of the Meadow & Meadowish Grand. Solomon gets six acres, Zaccheus and John get four acres, and James gets three acres.

State Ship Series: USS Colorado

There have been three ships commissioned named after the state of Colorado in the US Navy. The state of Colorado was admitted into the United States on August 1, 1876.

USS Colorado (ACR-7), Pennsylvania Class, Armored Cruiser, in commission from 1905 to 1927. In 1916, renamed USS Pueblo to free the name for BB-45. She escorted convoys across the Atlantic during WWI. In 1920, she was reclassified as USS Pueblo (CA-7) when the Navy revised their hull number scheme. In the late 1920s, became a receiving ship. Scrapped in 1930.

USS Colorado (BB-45), Colorado Class, Dreadnought Battleship, in commission from 1923 to 1947. Last lead ship of the Standard Type Battleship. She was part of the "Big 5", the group that consisted of the the most modern battleships of the interwar period. The group compromised of the Tennessee class and Colorado class.
She was in Puget Sound Navy Yard for an overhaul and refit during the Surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. She was due to receive a modernization refit like the New Mexico Class with tower super structure but these plans were cancelled.

Both USS Maryland and her received the least amount of upgrades of the Pacific Fleet dreadnought battleships and by the end of the war were the least modern battleships retained by the Navy. Mini Challenge 1: Literature Review
We have one of the members of the Band of Bagels explaining how Literature review is important.
We wanted to make sure we had clarity about all the concepts which had been introduced in the design brief like community resilience and social capital. Towards this, we read up on the different definitions and case studies on how communities have built up social capital and resilience over time. We also identified certain concepts that promote social capital in different ways. We analysed solutions that are currently in place that help build social capital around the world. We also looked at some traditional communities that have strong social capital and resilience to disasters. We considered all the factors that affect community resilience. We also looked into the shortfalls of using purely infrastructural remedies for disaster management and not tapping into the social capital or the social fabric. 
We further analysed the directions in which smart cities are progressing today and their shortcomings when it comes to human-human interaction enabling human connections. Some of the papers mentioned how smart cities are driven by technology rather than the people using the technology. We also went through how smart cities and how currently people are included in policymaking. Most papers argue that even though smart cities generate a lot of value for the cities, they end up creating a gap between the people who are unable to use the technologies. From a pure consumption standpoint, smart cities are notorious fro consuming too much electricity. The technology can create a difference between different demographics and create a rift in the community. 
We looked a the state of the art interventions currently running around the world. Beam is a crowdfunding platform for homeless people, bringing the community together to help solve problems in the community. An example combining IT and social media with sustainability is 596 Acres, a project designed to turn Brooklyn’s 596 acres of public-owned land into common use by a range of community groups and individuals. The Landless Workers Movement helps reclaim unused land for productive purposes using community organisations.
