What a wonderful, red letter day that was! Up early and into the Corpach sea lock shortly after 08.00 with the weather promising to be fine. Crew learning fast and doing a fine job! Going up Neptune's staircase was amazing, if fairly hard work, as we were in the locks with four other boats, one of which was a beautiful 73ft yacht. And the sun shone all the way... The lunch stop at Banavie at the top of staircase was a welcome break before we set off again, mooring overnight just beyond Gairlochy lochs in the most beautiful spot.

The H.I, has been modernizing its fleet, with new SD38-2's replacing the worn out hand me down sd40R's as well as two rebuilt sd40-2's , the rolling stock replacement program is getting into full swing with the scrapping of the older 55ft bulkhead flat cars and the newly minted 73ft centerbeam and drop center cars arriving to replace them from national steel, with an increase in capacity to 286'000 pnds they carry over a 3rd more then their predecessors.

DECADE ON AFTER £1.5M CRUISE LINER SET FOR ALICANTE UNVEILED

A decade has passed since a £1.5m cruise liner that was set for Alicante was unveiled – prior to being destroyed following an arsonist attack in Britain.

The Ocean Quest was unveiled in 2007, as the first boat to be built in Preston in 50 years, built by a consortium of owners for cruises in the Mediterranean.

The Ocean Quest remains in Preston Dock, Lancashire, in the wake of the cruise liner being set afire in 2008 in the Dock’s Marina.

This week I visited the scene where the doomed scheduled voyage to Alicante – where the boat was set to become a Charter cruise liner – went up in flames.

Following the 73ft vessel being removed from the Marina, and placed in the Dock basin area, it has remained there ever since.

The burnt out shell of The Ocean Quest, which took four-and-a-half years to complete, was sold on Ebay for £15,000.

However despite works being undertaken by the new owners following the purchase it remains a sorry sight at the quayside.
