AMC AMX "Playmate Pink,"  1968. Playmate of the year Angela Dorian received an AMX powered by the base 290ci AMC V8 as her prize. It was fitted with a number of factory options including air conditioning and an 8-track car stereo. American Motors offered the pink finish as a special order colour so in addition to Angela's car "a number" of pink AMX models left the Kenosha, Wisconsin factory.

In the golden era of muscle cars, AMC made a daring move by introducing the AMX, a two-seater coupe that directly challenged cars like the Chevrolet Corvette. Built in limited numbers, the 1970 model year marked the final iteration of the AMX’s standalone design, as it transitioned to a Javelin-based platform the following year. This example, one of only 747 equipped with the 360 V8 and automatic transmission, combines power and poise with a stylish Glen Green Metallic exterior and the performance-focused Go-Package.

1968 AMC AMX
The 1968 AMC AMX was a groundbreaking muscle car that broke the mold with its unique design and performance. As AMC’s first two-seater, it combined sports car styling with American muscle power. The AMX was powered by a range of potent V8s, including the 390 cubic inch engine, which could push out 315 horsepower, making it a serious contender on the streets. Its aggressive, compact body, sleek lines, and performance-focused engineering set it apart from the more traditional muscle cars of the era. The 1968 AMX remains a beloved classic for enthusiasts, standing as a bold example of AMC's innovation and ambition.

The second-generation Nissan GT-Rs almost look like American sports cars, like an AMX or a miniature Challenger or something.

AMC AMX, 1968. The series production AMX was a short wheelbase, 2 seat version of American Motor's new for '68 Javelin. A 290ci V8 was standard while AMC's 360ci V8 was optional. Sales were disappointing and the AMX was discontinued and not replaced in 1970. The AMX brand was offered as a special package on the Javelin between 1971 and 1974 and then other American Motor's models in the later 1970s
