More Pokémon Horizons Episode 25 spoilers under the cut!

As much as I laughed from how this played out like an unintentionally comedic moment---can I mention how much this actually does to separate Amethio from the rest of the Explorers; how he's actually honorable and respects Friede as a rival of sorts?

The rest of the Explorers tend to use underhanded tricks to get what they want (Spinel brainwashing Liko and attempting to wipe her memory, Onyx and Sango trying to overwhelm the others against direct orders whilst causing the destruction of everything else around them), but Amethio has been unique in how he's regarded as 'by the books' (by Friede) and constantly tries to be on equal footing with his opponent- even if it means putting himself at the disadvantage when he has more resources to utilize.

He could've very easily overwhelmed Friede by having both of his mons attack at once (given how Captain Pikachu hadn't arrived yet)---and yet he- doesn't. Which is just so interesting to me as he's meant to have a similar goal as the rest of the Explorers (which is to retrieve the pendant/Terapagos by any means necessary).

So in this case, was it really a matter of defeating Friede so that he could easily confront Liko afterwards,,, or,,,,, was he trying to prove himself somehow? 👀✨✨✨

okay. this sort of thing... is not particularly Amethio's forte. That doesn't mean he isn't willing to try, though.

He manages to get some time off by threatening talking to Hamber.

Honestly he's willing to do whatever you want. It suits him much better for you to tell him straight up what you want to do, or what you want him to do.

If you're the battling type, he'll be more than happy to have a go at it. (Lets you win if you aren't as proficient of a battler)

Seeing your cheery self celebrating your win makes him just as happy, even if you aren't able to tell.

He's more the type for small but meaningful gestures, so the gift he gives you matches that. It's probably something that you really love, or related to your pokemon.

He loves you very dearly, and it's times like these where it shows the strongest.

Spinel celebrating GN! Reader's birthday

So Triangles in Lucius outfit and his belt.

And Amethios eyes, with pupils looking like triangles (by the way, the only character with those unique eyes)

im betting with my life it’s NOT a coincidence.

My theory:

Lucius has a friend (explorers leader??) with those eyes and he used the triangle in his outfit like a symbol of their friendship/alliance but then Lucius got betrayed by that friend.

It’s definetely shown, that Amethio IS important for the story, if Liko looks pretty similar to Lucius, i wont be surprised if Amethio looks similar to “the friend of Lucius”.

This is why both Terapagos and Rayquaza looked pretty angry with Amethio - they recognise similarities with friend-traitor of their beloved trainer in him.

Im so happy that my favourite character is important to the story god dammit finally it happened

Pokemon Horizons Episode 75 Review - Memories Of A Long Time Ago

This episode answers so many questions about the mysteries what had transpired a century ago, yet it also raises more questions about Laqua and a lot of other things. Despite that, I think this was one of the best episodes of Pokemon Horizons as of now.

Because the flashbacks were told through Rystal’s perspective, we, the viewers, learn a lot about her. She found Terapagos one day when she was adventuring through Paldea’s Great Crater, but didn’t know it was a Terapagos, so she named it Pagogo. Since her Pokemon was so rare, she’s often a target of bounty hunters, but fortunately, one day, during one of the chases, she meets Lucius who scares the hunters off with his Rayquaza. It turns out that both of them are looking for Laqua, a place often told in fairy tales and thus its existence is considered fiction. People snuffed them for still believing in fairy tales, but fortunately, they found another Laqua searcher in Gibeon who does give scientific evidence that it exists.

They go through many adventures until they reached Laqua and when they did, tragedy ensues to the point that she’s the only survivor alongside the baby inside of her, Layla. It must have been so tragic for Rystal to lose both her lover and her friends all in the same day and that her beloved Pagogo reverted back into its dormant state that she decided to carry it around as a pendant as she lived the rest of her life as Layla’s mom before dying an early death, according to Diana. While Laqua is depicted as Pokemon paradise and is peaceful, not much is explored on it, which is probably for Liko and the others for find out and witness for themselves.

Regarding Rystal, I want to talk about her voice actress. She’s voiced by Yukana, who is known for voicing C.C from Code Geass, Meiling Li from Cardcaptor Sakura and Tear Grants from Tales of the Abyss. I don’t think she was in a Pokemon anime before this, but she really did a great job! I think the only other Pokemon media she’s been in was Pokemon Masters as Mina.

Despite a lot of the flashbacks having Lucius, there’s actually a lot we don’t know about him because it’s told through Rystal’s perspective. We know about what sort of person he is, his ambitions and his dreams. Yet, we’re not sure about his true feelings about Laqua, his companions and the journey. Because of this, I speculate that Lucius is still alive in Laqua, but in a weakened state like how Gibeon is. Given the sinister nature of the Laquirum, I would assume he’s turned evil because of them, but that’s just crazy speculation on my part. I did like that the flashbacks that we saw from the Hero Pokemon in past episodes are actually shown clearly in this episode. The scene with Galarian Moltres nuzzling against Lucius is shown. The flashback of Lapras remember Lucius is shown. I do like that callback a lot! Though, I do like that the one thing we do know about Lucius is that his Pokemon were scattered after preventing a disaster and that’s how Roy ended up with Rayquaza’s Ancient Pokeball a century later.

There’s also a lot we don’t know about Gibeon. He was introduced as someone searching for Laqua like Lucius and Rystal, but it turned out that his goals were more selfish than the other two, who wanted to keep its existence a secret. Gibeon wanted to take the Laquirum and use it for unknown purposes, but it’s also the cause of the tragedy. His actions caused a lot of present-day mysteries like how the Laquirum came to be outside of Laqua and how he is still alive to this day. His actions was also the reason why his Zygarde depowered into its 10% form and stayed that way for a century. Also, notice how different his hair color looks. In the flashbacks, his hair has a gray undertone that Amethio has on the left side of his hair. However, present-day Gibeon’s hair changed from gray to pure white with pink tips. I wonder what caused this change… I do feel like Spinel has something to do with it.

With Rystal entrusting Pagogo to Liko, Terapagos officially becomes hers. While this is obvious with how she has been its caretaker since the beginning, it’s finally nice to finally seal the deal. I’m glad for her, honestly. However, a part of me can only be a bit bitter about this capture from the sheer fact that Terapagos has been a source of trouble for the group back in the third arc. It’s because of Terapagos that some episodes often wastes its run time as the kids try to search and rescue it and then the rest of the episode often becomes clunky. Maybe that’s the writer’s fault, but I guess seeing it be used as a source of conflict multiple times did make me not like it. Still, it’s a deserved capture for Liko. It makes me wonder if Roy and Dot will get their third Pokemon, and if they do, will they be Legendaries or Mythical?

Speaking of which, there’s actually a huge debate on social media regarding Ash and Liko’s main character status and people arguing who was the first to capture a legendary. There’s also debates on whether Goh and Roy are also protagonists. Some say yes while others say no. Just to let you know, in Japan, Horizons is often referred to as the ‘LikoRoy’ anime, meaning both are protagonists, while the anime with Ash is considered as the ‘Satoshi (Ash) anime. Think of it as food for thought.

Now that Diana leaves the group, the Rising Volt Tacklers continue their search for Entei. They decide to track down an acquaintance named Sodayo who is appearing in the next episode. The previews seem to indicate that he used to be a member of the Rising Volt Tacklers, so I’m interested to see more lore on the adventurer group, especially his dynamic with Mollie. I think this has been my longest review for this anime by far. What do you think about this episode? Let me know your speculations on Lucius’s status and Gibeon being alive.

Spinel paused, taken aback by the sudden interruption. He hadn't expected Gibeon to cut him off before he could fully announce his latest findings.

An involuntary, nervous chuckle left him before he quickly composed himself. It wasn't like Gibeon to do this. What was going on? "But sir, I haven't gotten to-"

"I said enough."

Now he held his tongue, immediately tensing up. Even if Gibeon hadn't raised his voice, Spinel could detect the subtle shift in his tone, indicating that he wasn't pleased.

“...Sir?”

“I have no need for any of this. Your services are no longer required.”

A sudden chill ran up his spine. Then, a moment of panic. This… couldn’t be happening again. He had to say something. Anything!

“B-but I still can-!”

“Henceforth you are dismissed. Permanently. We cannot afford any weak links, and you’ve proven yourself incapable too many times.”

He then heard familiar, shrill laughter behind him. Spinel turned, his hands clenching into fists. He could see Coral laughing at him near the back of the room, Chalce and Sidian standing near her, watching.

“I knew it would only be a matter of time! I mean, he failed worse than Amethio!” The pink-haired admin seemed to nearly double-over in laughter, like she’d just heard an amusing joke. “Who loses to three pathetic little starters?!”

Spinel’s hands clenched into fists, her words making him grit his teeth, his eye twitching. He wanted to scream, not just at Coral, but all of them.

Shut up! You can’t do this! I’ve done so much for you all! I still have use! I still have-!

But the words remained trapped in his throat.

Fine, if he couldn’t voice his thoughts, then he’d get his pokemon. Surely they would help him prove he was still useful-

Again, he tensed, feeling that something wasn’t right. His pokeballs should be attached right to his belt, but instead there was nothing. Where-

He looked down by his feet, watching as Umbreon began to walk away from him.

“Umbreon…” His voice wavered, quiet and almost pathetic in its desperation as he reached out a hand.

It stopped, turning its head to stare at him. But its gaze wasn’t that of the beloved companion he’d known for years. Instead it stared at him like it did towards weaker, lesser opponents. Judgemental and uncaring. Like he was something that would be discarded and forgotten about in a matter of moments.

No… please… come back…

Please…

Spinel jolted awake suddenly, his eyes going wide as they opened. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest, his breathing faster than normal as he still felt the panic and dread from that nightmare.

He groaned softly as he sat back up, lifting his head out of his arms. He hadn’t remembered falling asleep at his desk, but the familiar computer screens flickered at him, still displaying the same recordings and data from a few hours ago.

He rubbed at his eyes momentarily, the feelings of dread soon growing to be replaced by annoyance. He didn’t need such thoughts and worries to be at the forefront of his mind when there was work to be done.

Glancing over his shoulder, he could see Umbreon laid down beside him, peacefully asleep. Still here. It did make Spinel relax just a bit.

At least they would never abandon him.

Thinking about Terapagos' beef with Amethio tonight

SPOILERS FROM THE LAST POKÉMON HORIZONS EPISODE:

All right I'll confess that I was like "the big Amethio moment is just him fighting alongside the good guys?" at first but then I changed my mind, this episode was awesome!

Amethio protected Liko from Raykuaza's attack and then she thanked him and he acted all tsundere about it! Awwww!

Liko and Amethio friendship when?

Amethio didn't fight against Friede but alongside Friede and I'm glad!

And then the big reveal...

Sprigatito evolving, good thing!

Raykuaza looks like it is starting to respect Liko and co. somehow, letting them fight it.

Gibeon!

There are two things I liked the most:

When the explorers left after the talk with Gibeon, Amethio was the only one staying and makes me think once again that he has some deeper connection to him than the other admins...

We only got to see Gibeon's hair but guess what? It resembles Amethio's!It's white with some black in it? Idk if it's just the shadow either way it's similar... there's obviously no confirmation for it but Amethio could be his son/relative.

Last observation: the Terapagos thing was probably just random since it didn't react to Amethio in any way... yeah, it could be because he wasn't hostile to them this time but idk... we will see...

Anyway... TSUNDERE AMETHIO MY BELOVED!

Going over the monthly summaries for October.

Already went over the writer for HZ068 (here). I am expecting the usual thing, which is opening episode of chapter establishes current goals and direction for both factions of the show (Rising Volt Tacklers and Explorers). I think it's pretty neat that we'll see the Six Heroes again (Oliva, Galar Fire, Lapras) and that they are taking it upon themselves to test Liko and the others. It feels like they want to see for themselves if they have what it takes to aim for Rakua, etc. Gives more agency to the Pokemon, too.

The summary for HZ069 can be found here. It's written by Deko Akao, which surprises me a bit since the summary and title indicate that it may be more of a Roy focused episode. Deko Akao mostly wrote Liko and Dot focused episodes in this series, so that could be the first episode which focuses more on Roy's character? Also interested in the mention of Friede meeting Zeiyu (that should be me he takes great interest in, etc :/). Given that Zeiyu's VA said her character had intense emotions and that she is a sore loser, I wonder if she'll make some snide comments to Friede? I think that would be funny. A bit reminiscent of Sango who told Murdock to shut up, too. Misato Fukuen also said Zeiyu comes off as a beautiful and aloof girl, so I wonder if someone will comment on that (like, Liko thinking "wow, she is pretty"). Also wondering if the characters will change their clothes for the festival, or not... Either way, I'm curious about Zeiyu and what they'll do with her.

The summary for HZ070 can be found here. It's written by Kimiko Ueno. Again, a bit surprising to me since Kimiko Ueno mostly handled Roy focused episodes in the series (such as HZ037, HZ052, HZ060..). And now, she is writing an episode which seems more focused on Dot and Kanuchan. It's nice. I'm looking forward to it. I wonder who "Liko and the others" refers to? I hope Friede is tagging along with the trio, and I wonder if maybe Zeiyu will act as a guide? Idk. Also Kanuchan facing a kind of bird Pokemon (the one mentioned in the summary) is kind of training for if she'll eventually face Amethio's Armorga since Kanuchan's evolution line and Armorga have beef with each other.

Kimiko Ueno also wrote the episode with Kaiden evolving, so I expect Kanuchan to evolve here too. Also, that episode will be airing on my birthday so I'm gonna be happy about it! That will be the only Horizons episode that ever airs on that day, and we'll probably get Kanuchan evolving so it's neat.

Also came across this Animedia ranking here. Just keeping it for future reference, because Liko, Amethio and Dot all being popular with the demographic that purchases/reads Animedia is cool.. I love them, and I'm glad to see something showing that they are appreciated. The Precure girls dominating rankings is also nice to see for me since I love them as well ww (Cure Nyammy and Cure Lilian, my beloveds etc)

LISTEN. what if amethio has some sort of connection/relation to whoever this "rakua" is and is why terapagos is like freaking out when it saw him just like when it heard the name rakua. im probably wrong but we dont know anything about whoever/whatever rakua is so. idk it just popped in my head after watching the episode

um anyways this was a great episode to come back to after the hiatus, i gotta wait for subs since i didn't understand much but i'm already so hype for the next episode. also we got the briefest of spinel appearances (technically) so thats epic. not to mention so much of my guy!! my silly little explorer!!!! amethio my beloved

also friede looks badass as hell in the previews for the next ep friede fans are eating good and i am excited for you.
