So I'm currently holding on to a Somogear PEQ-15/ATPIAL clone for a friend but ofc I'm taking the opportunity to fuck with it while it's in my hands for the time being
First impressions are good, but dubious The plastic definitely looks and feels like glass-filled nylon despite the reputation these have to crack around the pic mount idk maybe people are cranking these down too hard
The only parts that really scream china quality so far is the rubber used on the diffuser caps and the remote port dust plug feels like cheap silicone, but not that big an issue I suppose Especially considering Steiner units have just as dubious quality cap retention so I've heard
All the metal parts feel relatively high quality and both the selector knob and all the buttons have satisfying positive clicks not mushy whatsoever Hell, even the modbutton clone it came with feels decent quality for an airshit product the cable isn't shiny and plasticy and it has an actual insight-style crane plug, not a 3.5mm audio jack like so many airsoft lasers use
But even if the plastic body doesn't shit the bed and stress fracture over time, supposedly the real major downfall of the homogear units is their lack of proper coaligned zeroing. They hold zero fairly well, but the coalignment between the designator and the illuminator isn't quite there
But it's also a sub-$300 Chinese laser so what do you honestly expect lol

As soon as I get some spare burning money, I may end up getting one of these for myself Not necessarily to use as my primary IR laser device, but just something to fool around with for fun I have an AIM-1/D and two PAQ-4/C's, all of which are full power, so I'm not exactly hurting too badly in the laser department lol
Also ignore the flash hider on my SPR, I know it isn't timed properly, I'm gonna be sending the barrel out to get properly profiled for an AE Suppressor Collar

Cheesing for the 📷. This might have been the day of an IED post blast investigation. Happened near our base. Heard it that morning but didn't know it was an enemy bomb. Could have been anything. Was out on a cot getting some sun and the Major rolled by and said get kitted up to check out this IED. I had my whole setup ready to go so threw it on and got in the truck. Everyone else was wearing civvies so I felt stupid. The odd man out. When we got to the scene everything except the truck was gone. Wounded, dead, & weapons all gone. We still investigated the crater, followed the command wire, and checked out the bomber's position. He had been between a police station and military base. Very suspect. The dude skiddadled before anyone saw him but he did leave a little turd for us. This might have been that day or just another local security mission. Either way that valley and village behind me was home for awhile. #og3 #operatorgator #specialforces #greenberets #usasocdicpics #socom #m4 #sopmod #eotech #magpul #surefire #m81woodland #msa #rodeo #556mm #foakleys #gmv #atpial (at Hell Yeah) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2CYIHeAvzj/?igshid=1o2yxdk3xxfo2

MWII Denim Ghost cosplay draft
I have been watching some of the fandom’s reactions around Denim Ghost, based on his appearance as seen in parts of the MWII trailer and the gameplay Dark Waters teaser.
It’s been amusing to say the least, and I for one welcome a loadout that is a) an aesthetic that I consume like crack coke, and b) relatively easy to cosplay if you know what to look for.
So, I present my V0.1 cosplay test for MWII Denim Ghost, with parts list below, under the cut...

Now, full disclosure: this is NOT screen accurate to what he wears, for a few reasons.
It’s hard to assess his actual gear based on a few frames seen in a trailer under poor lighting conditions
I’m working with what I already possess.
One of the vests he could be wearing (and seen worn by other characters) costs upwards of $700 USD, the First Spear Siege-R Optimised plate carrier. There have not been any airsoft clones manufactured at the time of posting.
But, here’s a break down of my kit as seen above.
Shirt: Airsoft reproduction of an AC/G3 combat shirt printed in Multicam Black (you can find these on ebay manufactured by companies like Emerson and IDOGEAR, with the only real variations being the velcro style and the elbows. Mine is an older “AC” type shirt, so there are parts to insert hard elbow pads as well as the velcro being solid panels and not two stripes like seen on the G3 type shirts
Pants: Just a pair of cheap straight-cut jeans I bought for around $20-30. Nothing fancy, I’d bought these for skirmish use so I anticipated them being something that’d get torn, ripped, frayed, or stains. Hence the low cost. You will want something loose fitting if you intend on wearing this for skirmish wear or for full-day cosplay, as they’ll keep your legs cool.
Vest: In-lieu of the Siege-R OPC seen by some characters in the MW/Warzone franchise, I’ve gone for my own JPC 2.0 (a clone manufactured by TwinFalcons). It’s a lighter weight vest that also has a fairly snug fit (ideal for skinny peeps like me), but not a whole heap of space to attach things like pouches, unless you’re creative. As far as my setup goes, I’ve got two Twin Taco AR pouches and a single Taco AR pouch on the front panel (all airsoft clones made by Emerson), I’ve got a single MBITR radio taco on my left rear flank (legit article by High Speed Gear), a Tasmanian Tiger admin pouch, and a Tasmanian Tiger IFAK pouch on my right flank (not seen).
Belt: It’s a generic airsoft clone of typical rigger’s belts used by military personnel. It’s a two-stage belt system, where the inner belt secures my pants in place and uses velcro to keep in position. The outer surface of this belt also has velcro hook fabric, which connects to the outer belt’s loop fabric on it’s inner surface (confusing, right?). The outer belt holds two pistol Taco pouches and my 5.11 Tactical magazine dump pouch (on my left) and has the connectors to my drop-leg SERPA holster for my right leg.
Weapon: This is also where I have to deviate from “canon” for reasons listed above. I can’t quite tell what Ghost is armed with, but at first glance it looked like either an M4/AR15 platform or a SCAR-L/Mk-16 platform. So, hedging my bets, I went with one of my gelsoft (not airsoft or real-steel, as I’m Australian) M4A1s. This one is specifically an M4A1 Block II SOPMOD, with DD RIS2 handguard, MOE carbine stock, an Aimpoint T2-style red dot sight, an AN/PEQ-15 ATPIAL, and AFG2 forward grip. It’s also painted in a three-tone splinter-esque camouflage pattern, inspired by patterns seen in Warzone.
I hope you enjoy this breakdown, I am likely to post updates as I obtain more information and detail from any further released media, or obtain more pieces of equipment to complete this cosplay.
Cheers!

EvolutionGear IS-EG NGAL Laser Aiming Module
For those of you that shake your fist to the heavens cursing L3Harris for not releasing a civilian version of their famed NGAL, you're probably at least tangentially familiar with EvolutionGear -
They do the OEM parts manufacturing for InvisibleSight, who offers a higher quality level of QC, but is infamous for their astonishingly long lead times.
EvolutionGear sells the 'cheaper' version of the IS-EG NGAL which you can buy direct from them if you wanna bypass the year-long inspection wait and don't need all the different options offered through InvisibleSight.
Before I get into the details of the unit itself, I'd like to clear up a lot of myths about EG - the common consensus about them is that they're known for not shipping their items, but from my own research, I really could only find an evidence case of one from a dude who was dumb enough to order during Chinese New Year and threw a tantrum when it took longer than expected to receive a tracking.
I opted for the more expensive UPS shipping option, and while it was kinda awkward having to wait for a live representative to email me a paypal invoice rather than going though a site-based payment portal, I didn't have any issues ordering from them and everything arrived within a week of receiving a tracking.

Here's where I'll get into the initial impressions.
The body of the unit is forged 6061 aluminum, and unlike the Somogear NGAL's, these actually have recoil lugs integrated into the body with a proper L3Harris-style screw clamp, as opposed to the crappy PEQ15 clamp the Somo units have.
The selector switch, I find somewhat mushy (due to the integral o-ring added for waterproofing), but still tactile enough to satisfy me, and the button has a positive enough click for my needs as well. The rear focus knob for the IR illuminator is a little bit stiff, but no major red flags about it.

Another nice feature of the EG NGAL is the fact it includes actual diffuser caps whereas the Somo units are only provided with blackout covers. The visible potting of the unit seems very well-done and I'm definitely excited to see how well this holds up considering EG touts this as a 5.56-capable laser where Somogear continues to scream "airsoft only" from the rooftops.

The unit included two different sets of stickers (one laminated, one not, interestingly) as well as a pressure pad and an eggcrate-padded plastic storage case.
The pressure pad is where I'm going to focus a majority of my initial critique.
On the website, EvolutionGear claims they offer the option of an LA23 Plug or an ATPIAL Crane Plug version. I triple checked that I'd be receiving a crane-ported NGAL, and the customer service acknowledged this.
The switch they provided is an LA23 version and upon testing the port with a surplus Insight PEQ-2 Pressure Pad, there was no function from the laser, meaning my request was completely disregarded and I'd been given an LA23-ported version instead.
Not a humongous deal to me, but it would have been nice to have a wider choice of aftermarket switches instead of proprietary ones that cost 100-300 fucking dollars.
Anywho, the switch they include is what I'd describe as solidly "meh" - it feels like a very cheap silicone, the click is positive enough, but the cable is visibly hot glued in and it's just left me wishing that Somogear offered their fantastic Modbutton Lite knock-offs a la carte.
Might email them later to see if I can get one.

The build it resides on presently is my FDE A2 Retromod, and despite being an offset beam unit, I still find the lasers are just a little too close to a standard FSB for my comfort.
I plan on possibly doing a URG-I build out of my Colt LE6920 in the near future, so this is definitely not the build the EG NGAL is staying on forever.
Later I'll give it a look under NODs and see how that goes.

So, over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been painting up three of the gel blaster rifles I have upgraded and fielded over the last couple of years (one of these hasn’t actually seen field use yet.)
Now, I present the finalised forms of these blasters, parts and paints locked in.
First off: M4A1 SOPMOD II

Notable parts include:
Daniel Defense RISII, 9”
Elcan SpectreDR 1-4x scope
Offset Red Dot sight
AN/PEQ-15 ATPIAL
Surefire flashhider with Qd suppressor
Tan and brown camouflage finish
Second entry: Mark 18 Mod 1 CQBR

Parts include:
Daniel Defense RISII, 7”
Aimpoint T1 Red Dot sight
AN/PEQ-15 ATPIAL
Surefire flashhider w/QD suppressor
Brown and tan camouflage finish
Third and final: M4A1 “Ranger” (homage to MW2)

Parts include:
RIS resembling a SIR RIS
Barrel mounted folding front iron sight
EoTech 556 holographic sight
3x flip up magnifier
Black/Tan finish to resemble the MW2 rifle it’s based off of
I’ve had a lot of fun painting and assembling these three blasters. I deliberately left the grips unpainted on all three, as I didn’t want paint to wear and stain my hands and gloves. I also didn’t paint the attachments as I do occasionally swap out optics and lights where required.

More greeblies for the FDE A2 build - I've been curious about these Dual Function Cable Port Tailcaps from Z-Bolt and finally got my hands on one.
At first glance, they may not look like much, but when compared to the industry standard Surefire DS00 Tailcap, there are several clear advantages:
- The 'clicky' on/off activation button is the same diameter as the Surefire standalone 'clicky' tailcaps and centered on the back for easier access than the puny, shielded offset button of the DS00
- The remote cable port is pleasantly offset from the outer diameter of the tailcap itself - it doesn't try to squeeze in next to the button. This offset also allows you to put the cable as close up against the rail as possible; something the DS00 has a problem with.

The only slight complaint I have about the design is that these use Insight/L3Harris 'Crane'-Style Connector plugs, similar to those used on the PEQ-15 ATPIAL and other Laser Aiming Modules.
While double crane plug dual pressure pads certainly exist, I had made the unfortunate dumbass assumption it would be Surefire plug compatible and bought a Unity AXON with crane/surefire leads accordingly prior to the tailcap's arrival.
Mistakes into miracles however, as it turns out the copies of the Modbutton Lite that Somogear sends with their PEQ15 clones work perfectly with the crane ports on Z-Bolt Tailcaps; which is surprising considering the Somogear modbutton didn't work with any of my other crane plug accessories.
The current plan is to get an InvisibleSight NGAL clone to supplant the Somo PEQ - I was originally considering getting a Somogear version, but the InvisibleSight units not only are 5.56 rated and come with actual diffuser caps instead of blackout covers, but they generally have much better QC and even include the proper recoil lugs machined into the laser body itself, something the Somo NGAL's lack.
As far as switchology for that, I feel like the NGAL is small enough to where I can easily wrap my thumb around it and hit the integral fire button without much hassle (at least compared to a PEQ)
Not to mention the InvisibleSight NGAL's are offered with a crane port as opposed to the proprietary LA23 port, so theoretically, I can just swap the plug on the Somo modbutton between my white light and the NGAL, which while a mild inconvenience, will entirely eliminate the possibility of a white light discharge under NODS.
Or y'know, maybe I can scalp another somo modbutton off someone.

As far as the Unity Axon Switch and Somo PEQ15 that I originally had, those have since been donated to @bureau-of-mines' Stribog project as I continually attempt to suck him deep into the nightfighting gun build quagmire
Honestly I think it looks much slicker on this build than mine.
More to come later as things fall into place.
