jedna z nejvýznamnějších ostravských budov v centru města. Původní funkce obchodního domu zanikla vlivem hrubého zacházení předešlých majitelů a také rozvojem a výstavbou v centru města kdy v sousedství vznikla rada moderních staveb poskytujících obchodní a kancelářské prostory, nahrazující a zcela překračující funkční možnosti bývalého komerčního prostoru, který sloužil Ostravanům po více než jedno století. Kromě historické hodnoty je pro obyvatele města Ostravice hlavně symbolem — v minulosti živé Ostravy; nyní především také nadějí na životem tepající metropoli. Svou pozicí tvoří totiž vstupní bránu do centra a v současnosti její dlouhodobý chatrný stav pouze přispívá k obrazu stagnace a představuje o jeden důvod více opustit již tak po večerech prázdné město. Cílem tohoto projektu je dát Ostravici novou náplň prostřednictvím rekonstrukce a konverze na účel, který bude nabízet možnosti a služby společenského charakteru.
