Three Ways to Give that Make a Difference
Protecting & Enhancing California's Coast
Tumblr media
The people spoke and California acted.
The California Coastal Commission began with a voter initiative in 1972 (Proposition 20) and gained permanence through Legislative adoption of the California Coastal Act of 1976. The coast needed issues addressed. And those needs are met through careful planning and regulation of environmentally-sustainable development, rigorous use of science, strong public participation, education, and effective intergovernmental coordination. Since the signing of the Coastal Act, the Commission has dedicated itself to the protection and preservation of the breathtakingly beautiful, inspiring, and irreplaceable coast of California.
You see that word emboldened above, it’s important.
And through the California Coastal Commission’s Public Education Program there is an opportunity to make possible what the program delivers to California – Education! This is done through Whale Tail Grants, Coastal Cleanup Programs (Adopt-A-Beach and Coastal Cleanup Day), Educational Resources, Coastal Art & Poetry and so much more!
Making a donation supports the protection and enhancement of these resources and both inspires and educates the next generation of coastal stewards. There are countless ways to enjoy the California coast and almost as many ways to give back; here are but a few:
Donate or Purchase a plate: The Program has awarded $10.9 Million in grants to a wide variety of organizations.
State Tax Donation - Protect Our Coast and Oceans Fund (CheckTheCoast.org)
A Whale Tail License Plates Purchase (ecoplates.com)
Give a gift: Be sure to check out the Public Education online shops, where you can always find a gift for someone special — or for you. Whether you buy clothes, a thermos, or tote bags, the proceeds will benefit the California coast.
Volunteer: California Coastal Cleanup Day — and you can be one of them! Save the Date 09/16/2017.
Help us to fill the gap for critically needed marine education and stewardship programs.
“Every dollar donated will have a lasting impact on our coast and will help create the next generation of coastal stewards.”  -
Public Education Program Director, Chris Parry
Thank you to the many generous contributions we’ve received from valiant supporters across the great state of California - we cannot thank you enough!
Donating to Public Education Program is a great way to give back, so why not learn more about us and how we approach the preservation and care of the California Coast.

This girl is still busy learning about the history of this great nation , earning badges and pins. We have a campsite with power this week and I decided to get to work. I have never sewn outside before, and I have to say it was wonderful. Some patches were iron-on but she has worked so hard I want to make sure they don't fall off. We already lost at least one pin. #sewing #outdoorsewing #outdoorsewingproject #sewingmachine #outdoorsewingroom #sewingproject #sewingproject #sewingtime #sewingforkids #campsite #jrranger #jrrangerbage #jrrangernps #nationalparks #nps #hotspringscanyon  #yosemitenps #yellowstonenps #jrrangergeek #rfirefighter #jrrangerpatch #jrrangerkids #adoptabeach #hawaiiislandsnationalpark #castatepark #roadschooling #homeschoollife (at Ocean Pond Campground) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4f0tdBgq9p/?igshid=d9tuf1z3m14l
