Components of an LV AB Cables Distribution Line
Low Voltage Aerial Bundled Cables, which have an insulating layer of XLPE, are an innovative concept for the distribution of electricity to households, street lights or other low voltage applications. These electrical distribution systems are practical not only in congested cities where the insulation provides safety and manoeuvrability but are also useful in rural areas where live line maintenance is much easier than using bare conductors. You can read more about this in our article on the “Advantages of Low Voltage Aerial Bundled Cables for Overhead Power Distribution”.
According to research published in 2017, “XLPE cables are expected to last or service well beyond the 40-year design life under normal circumstances”. However, this long lifespan can be severely reduced if improper clamps and connectors are used along with the AB Cable. According to the research, the most influential factor in ageing ABC cables is the use of non-standard cable connectors, accessories and clamps because they allow water ingress which slowly damages the cable.
The appropriate components to be used along with the AB Cable system are listed below.
1. Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC)
a. Insulated Messenger System: An insulated messenger system (also called the French system) consists of 3 black, weather-resistant XLPE or PE insulated phase conductors twisted along with an insulated messenger conductor made of a high strength Aluminum alloy which serves as a dual purpose earthing and/or neutral messenger wire.
b. Self-Supporting System (Two Core or Four Core System): The self-supporting cable system consists of 2 or 4 PE or XLPE black, weather-resistant insulated conductors. The mechanical strength of all the cables is equal such that, when strained, all the cables will equally bear the load of the system.
c. Uninsulated Messenger System: An uninsulated messenger system (also called the Finnish system) consists of 1-4 black, weather-resistant PE insulated phase conductors twisted around a messenger conductor made of a high strength Aluminum alloy.
2. Poles
a. Wooden Poles
b. Cement (RCC – Reinforced Cement Concrete, PCC – Plain Cement Concrete Poles)
c. Steel Tubular Pole (Stepped pole, Swaged pole).
d. Rail Pole.
3. Suspension System:
a. Suspension Clamps for LV AB Cables are used along with a bracket or other supporting hardware to suspend and grip, without damaging, the insulated or uninsulated messenger or the self-supporting system of a LV ABC system by means of an adjustable lock that accommodates a range of cable sizes.
4. Anchoring System:
a. Anchoring Clamps for LV AB Cables are used along with a bracket or other supporting hardware and are used to strain the insulated or uninsulated neutral messenger or the self-supported system to terminate into transformer leads or mains for industrial/residential supply. They are also used to provide angles to a LV ABC system without damaging the cable’s insulation.
5. Taking service lines or tap connections:
a. Service Clamps are used along with a bracket or other supporting hardware and is used to strain the insulated service conductor of an LV-ABC system without damaging the cable’s insulation. The main application of Service Clamps is to bring service connections to households or street lights.
b. Insulation Piercing Connectors are used on all AB cable systems (messenger wire as well as self-supporting system) to take tap connections. This tap can be used to continue the line, distribute the line, be used in street lighting or in-service connections to households.
6. Service line distribution
a. Distribution Boxes are used to take multiple connections from a single enclosure. These connections can be used for distribution to households.
7. Other Hardware
a. Midspan Joints are used for insulated ABC cables on stranded phase and neutral to join two cables.
b. Insulated BM Lugs are used for insulated ABC cables on stranded phase and neutral to terminate the cables.
c. Elastomeric or Heat Shrinkable End Caps are used to safely terminate the ends of the AB Cable. Elastomeric End Caps are usually supplied with insulation piercing connectors.
d. Fixing Nails are used to support Aerial bundled cable on façades.
e. Stainless Steel straps are used along with the Fixing Nails to accommodate an additional bundle if required. Stainless Steel Cable ties are also used to fix brackets and distribution boxes onto the electric pole.
f. Tensioner is used to tension the steel straps which are mounted on the poles to hold the brackets or distribution boxes in place.

A New Method for Judging Breakpoints of Wires and Cables
MV ABC cable
In addition to the measurement of basic parameters such as voltage, current, resistance, capacitance and transistors, the digital multimeter can also be used flexibly to further expand its functions and achieve the purpose of multi-purpose. A method for judging breakpoints of wires and cables with a digital multimeter is given here.
Tumblr media
When there is a disconnection fault inside the cable or the cable, the exact location of the disconnection is not easy to determine due to the wrapping of the outer insulation. This problem can be easily solved with a digital multimeter. Specific method: Connect one end of the wire (cable) with a breakpoint to the live wire of the 220V mains, and the other end to hang in the air. Pull the digital multimeter to the AC2V gear, start from the live wire access end of the wire (cable), hold the nib of the black test lead with one hand, and slowly move the red test lead along the insulation of the wire with the other hand, and then the display shows The voltage value displayed on the screen is about 0.445V (measured by the DT890D meter). When the red test pen moves to a certain place, the voltage displayed on the display suddenly drops to 0.0 volts (about one tenth of the original voltage), and about 15cm forward from this position (the live wire access end) is the wire ( cable) where the breakpoint is located. When using this method to check the shielded wire, if only the core wire is broken but the shielding layer is not broken, then this method is powerless.

What could be better than gazing up at the beautiful night sky while surrounded by the warmth of a campfire and your faithful companion? Preparing for this type of night may take hours, and your pup's wandering out of sight certainly does not help. That being the case, a dog tie-out (Best Dog Trolley System) for camping will keep your dog safely secured to a pole or post while remaining within your sight. You are no more chasing Fido! In this article we will discover the most incredible camping trolley on the market ! The majority of dog groups laud dog trolleys as one of the most humane methods of canine restraint. The dog containment systems such as electric fences or spiral spikes that often tangle dog leashes, shorten the lead line, or are ripped out of the ground by giant dogs. Most dog containment methods are priced differently, ranging from inexpensive ground stakes to an expensive electric fence. Best Dog Trolley system comes somewhere in between, depending on how much tie-out cable is required. Remember that some of these pet carts require some DIY effort to install the rope; you may need to climb a ladder and drill a hole or two. You may believe that if your dog attempts to go longer than the leash connected to the aerial dog run can extend, it would suffer whiplash or injure itself. Fortunately, your dog is unharmed. The majority of cable runs and trolley systems incorporate an "anti-shock" feature. Among these anti-shock devices is a spring system that functions like a bungee, ensuring that the coiled wire absorbs most of the initial shock. This allows the lead line to give slightly as your dog runs over the coiled cable, reducing the blow enough to keep your pup safe. Specific pulleys have tangle-free technology if you're concerned about tangles in your pet trolley systems. Dog Trolleys Dog Trolleys, perhaps the most technologically advanced alternative, gives your dog the most flexibility and range of movement of any tether system. A trolley is essentially a dog version of a pulley run. Pet trolleys function by suspending a pulley from the overhead cable, following your dog as he sniffs and explores. Is Tech Making server utama Better or Worse?
Fiber cables form one of the most important parts of the networking industry today. Fiber cables are composed of one or more transparent optical fibers enclosed in a protective covering and strength members. Fiber cables are used to transmit data by the mode of light. Various types of fiber cables available are multimode duplex fiber cables, single mode simplex fiber cables, single mode duplex fiber cables, and plastic optical fiber cables.
There are many fiber optic cable manufacturers who manufacture full line of fiber cables in both single mode and multi-mode, simples, duplex and multi-strand. Several manufacturers provide low cost, quick-turn, high volume server utama fiber cables and fiber cable assembly solutions.
Cables with complete assembly of fibers, strength members and jacket refer to fiber cables. These fiber cables come in variety of forms depending upon their usability and place of use. It is important to identify the exact requirement of fiber cables whether they would be easy to install, splice or terminate, etc. This is necessary as it ultimately decides the cost of installing the fiber cables.
Fiber cables are required to protect fibers from external hazards. Thus before installing the fiber cables one should always assess the place of installation of fiber cables. Fiber cables required inside the house or a building are not exposed too much of hazardous condition thus simpler form and not-so-tough fiber cables can be used for installation. But if the fiber cables are to be installed for longer distances and outside premises then the cables should be robust. They should also be installed well beneath the ground to protect them not only from ground digging, water logging but also from prairie dogs.
Fiber cables comes in different types based on their usage patterns as well. The zip cord and simplex fiber cables refer to those used for desktop connections. Simplex fiber cables are one fiber, tight-buffered and jacketed. A zip cord is actually two simplex fiber cables joined by a thin web. On the other hand fiber cables made of several simplex cables are breakout fiber cables. This type of fiber cables is strong, rugged and larger. They are also a bit expensive but prove to be economic where distances are not too long and fiber count required is less.
Small fiber cables required for dry conduit run, riser or plenum are known as a distribution fiber cables that needs a breakout box to be broken up or terminated in a panel box. They contain several tight-buffered fibers bundled under same jacket.
Aerial fiber cables are good enough for outside installation where as armored fiber cables are used for under-ground wiring where rodents are a problem. These fiber cables have metal armoring between two jackets to prevent rodents from tampering the cabling connections.
Loose tube fiber cables are perfect for plant trunk applications to prevent fibers from moisture or water. They can be buried directly in ground but must be handled carefully to prevent damage. Ribbon fiber cables have twelve or more fiber cables packed together laid in a rows. They are also a plant fiber cables which are gel-filled and are good for water blocking.
Tumblr media
All fiber cable manufacturers manufacture different fiber cables but their product literatures should be carefully studied so as to assess which type of fiber cables they specialize in.

Advantages of Low Voltage Aerial Bundled Cables for Overhead Power Distribution
Aerial Bundled Cable is an innovative concept for Over Head (OH) power distribution. The Low Voltage Cable plays a crucial role here. When compared to the conventional bare conductor OH distribution system, ABC provides higher safety and reliability, lower power losses, stability in voltage regulation and ultimate system economy by reducing installation, maintenance and operation cost.
Easy & Safe Installation in Difficult Terrain:
This system is ideal for rural distribution and especially attractive for installation in difficult terrain such as hilly areas, dense forests, coastal regions etc. These lines can be laid without cutting or trimming any trees. ABC is also considered to be the best choice for power Distribution in congested urban areas with narrow lanes and by-lanes. It is convenient to lay even in densely populated areas with narrow gaps between buildings, where it is usually not possible to run bare conductors. Additionally, accidental electrocutions are avoided by the insulation of the cable. The insulated system also allows live line working which means less downtime and a safe working environment which leads to quick installation.
Cost-Effectiveness of Low Voltage Aerial Bundled Cable:
Underground cable installations have a capital cost ratio as high as 20:1 when compared to OH lines, thus giving the ABC system a distinct advantage in cost-effectiveness. Also, since the cables are clearly visible, the faults can be detected and rectified quickly and with ease. Damage due to waterlogging is also avoided as compared to underground cables.
Low Voltage Aerial Bundled Cable is reliable:
ABC’s are highly reliable and the insulation has been developed to withstand heat, cold and intense sunlight. Disturbance and faults occur five to ten times more on open-wire lines than on ABC lines. There is no risk in working on a live cable and the insulation reduces the number of short circuits, over-voltages and transformer burnouts caused by thunderstorms. Fewer hardware accessories are needed as each one can be used with many different sizes of cable. Since the cable will be supplied with conductors for street lighting, it is more cost-effective.
Reduced Distribution Losses:
According to World Bank analysis, India loses 20% of its generated electricity due to T&D losses of which power theft is a major component. Compared to the bare line system, the insulation of the ABC system makes it far more secure and thus saves it from Power Theft.

How does an Overhead Line Fault Passage Indicator work?
Being outdoors, electrical networks are subject to the ravages of nature throughout the year. From lightning, heavy rain, dust or even just local wildlife, these electrical networks become susceptible to faults forming over time.
When these faults occur, outages can take place which can affect large populations of end customers or industrial areas, causing dissatisfaction and revenue losses for the local utility. In our conversations with Utilities and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) firms, in the absence of a fault indicator, the standard practice involves several technicians walking or driving along the length of the line to find the exact location of the fault. In the case of a line such as an Aerial Bundled Cable (AB Cable) where the cables are bunched together, this practice becomes even more difficult as the technicians need to lower the line to find the fault. Additionally, if the fault occurs at night or in highly forested or hilly areas, this endeavour becomes increasingly difficult.
These revenue losses for Utilities and the extra cost of O&M for fault detection have led to the development of products to aid utilities or maintenance firms to quickly detect faults in their network. A Fault Indicator is a device placed underground or on overground electrical lines to provide utilities with either a visual or remote indication and location of a fault. These Fault Indicators are also referred to as Fault Passage Indicators (FPI), help the utility attain early information on the location of the fault, and take immediate action.
What is an Overhead Line Fault Passage Indicator?
An Overhead Line Fault Passage Indicator detects and indicates faults that occur in an electrical distribution network. It monitors the system 24×7 for fault occurrence and reduces downtime time by quickly identifying the fault location. A Fault Passage Indicator is installed under live conditions with the help of a hot stick and an adapter.
How does a Fault Passage Indicator work?
One Fault Passage Indicator is usually clipped onto each phase of the circuit allowing the utility or O&M firm to monitor current and faults in each phase. By placing the FPI’s at regular intervals along the line, the device can identify faults in the downstream section from its point of installation by monitoring the electromagnetic field surrounding the conductor. During the fault condition, the magnetic field around the conductor increases rapidly as a high current will flow through that path for a fraction of time (di/dt) & then suddenly breaks to zero as circuit breaker trips, this condition is sensed by the FPI & gives the alarm physically on-site & remotely to SCADA centre.
In the case of a non-communicable type, the FPI will give alarm physically on-site by blinking the RED Ultra bright LED & in the case of a communicable type the FPI gives alarm physically on-site as well as send the data to the SCADA centre through DCU over GSM/GPRS.
The illustration below provides a basic topology of a communicable system.
The FPI product ultimately aims to reduce the time and effort taken by maintenance technicians to find faults by providing visual and/or remote cues.
When a fault occurs, the fault indicators in front of the fault point will flash an LED to indicate the fault, the ones behind the fault point will not indicate the fault. The operator can easily identify the fault position (between the flashing and non-flashing indicators) by tracking the flashed indicators. It can help the operator to find out the fault point quickly. Permanent fault, transient fault and battery low voltage alarm can be indicated and distinguished separately by 3 different ultra-bright blinking LEDs. Two different alternating ultra-bright blinking LEDs indicate an Earth-fault. The parameters such as trip current, reset time, blinking interval, etc. are also read and adjusted over the wireless bidirectional network.
Features:
Axis Overhead Line Fault Passage Indicator detects an earth-fault using the signal injection method with the assistance of a device called signal source. The signal source provides improved accuracy in earth-fault detection. The Axis Overhead Line Fault Passage Indicator is designed as per IEEE 495-2007 international standard. An earth-fault and short-circuit fault indicator consists of three indicators, one for each phase and one for Data Concentrator Unit (DCU) for uploading data to System Server.
Overhead Line Remote Fault Indicators are usually used to monitor short-circuit faults and earth-faults. Three ultra-bright blinking LEDs indicate a fault in the network. The information about the fault and the current values can be uploaded to the Server System by utilizing available 2G/3G/4G networks.
Advantage:
The main aim of an Overhead Line Fault Passage Indicator is to reduce the physical efforts needed to identify the faults & that occur in distribution networks. There is a significant reduction in the time, effort and manpower required for identifying faults.
AXIS Lightning Protection Systems are designed to protect structures and systems against Lightning damage. Axis tests its lightning protection products in accordance with Major international standards such as IEC, BS EN, and UL& IS. Contact Now!

What is the Difference Between Loose Tube and Tight Buffered Cable?
Fiber optic cable constructions are available in two main types:loose tube and tight buffered cable. Both cables contain a dielectric strength member and dielectric central member, but each is designed for very different environments. This article will discuss the differences between loose tube and tight buffered cables.
Tumblr media
Loose Tube Cable vs.Tight Buffered Cable
Both loose tube and tight buffered are fiber optic cables consisting of multiple fiber counters. However, they differ from each other. Let's take look at the main differences between them.
Construction
Loose tube cable construction uses 250μm fiber core ,and installed in bundles within a semi-rigid protective tube or sleeve. One to 12 fibers are placed in individual, water-blocked buffer tubes to isolate them from external forces and are typically stranded around a fiberglass central strength member to provide additional strength and resistance. A loose tube cable typically will hold up to 432 fibers in total within these tubes. Loose tube cable is manufactured in dry-block or gel-filled.
Tumblr media
Tight buffered cable construction uses 900μm buffered fiber surrounded by water-resistant, dielectric strength member, and protected by a flexible flame-retardant outer jacket (or a rugged polyurethane outer jacket), and provides superior environmental and mechanical protection. The fiber count for tight-buffered fiber cable varies from 1 to 144 fibers, but generally cables with 2, 6, 12, 24 fibers are the most commonly used. Larger fiber counts such as 48 fibers, 96 fibers and 144 fibers are also available for specific applications.
Tumblr media
Both cables contain dielectric strength member, and dielectric central member, but each is designed for very different environments.
Protection
Loose tube cable has a water-resistant gel surrounding the fibers. This gel helps protect the fibers from moisture, making the cable ideal for harsh, high-humidity environments where water or condensation can be a problem. The gel-filled tubes can expand and contract with temperature changes, too.
The tight-buffered cable core is protected by a two-layer coating (plastic and waterproof acrylate). The acrylate coating keeps moisture away from the cable, and the acrylate layer is bound tightly to the plastic fiber layer, so the core of the cable is never at risk of exposure, when the cable is bent or compressed underwater.
Applications
Loose tube cable is used for outside-plant installation in the aerial, duct, and direct-buried applications, local area networks (LAN), metropolitan area networks (MAN), wide area networks (WAN), long-haul and broadband networks, telecommunications, campus backbone, shorter runs, data center, CATV, broadcast, computer network systems, subscriber network systems, and 10, 40, 100Gbps ethernet.
Tight buffered cable is used in intra-building, data centers, backbones, horizontal, patch cords, equipment cables, LAN, WAN, Storage area network (SAN), long indoor runs, direct burial, underwater, indoor, and indoor/outdoor applications.
Advantages
Tight buffered cable is more expensive than loose tube cable, because it uses more materials in the cable construction, and holds fewer fibers versus loose-tube cable, using a similar diameter due to the difference between the 900μm fiber and the 250μm fiber. In addition, the tight buffered cable is easy to install than the loose tube cable, because there is no gel to clean up, and it does not require a fan-out kit for splicing or termination.
Conclusion
Loose tube cable provides stable and highly reliable optical transmission performance over a wide temperature range, the best protection for the fibers under high pulling tensions, and can be easily protected from moisture with water-blocking gel. Tight buffered cable provides highly reliable, versatility, and flexibility, is smaller in size, and is easy to install. Sun Telecom provides all loose tube and tight buffered cable products and solutions to the global market.
