Mos Espa
Mos Espa market was a shopping area on space port of Mos Espa, Tatooine. It was seen in the films, especially 'Phantom Menace' to be selling street food. There was the incident where Jar Jar binks tried to eat something and was confronted by Sebulba after sending some street food flying and it hitting him. Graga was a seller of street food in Mos Espa. She grew her own food in the sewers beneath the city itself. Graga, who is a 'Swokes Swokes', these beings were often known to be violent, and were also known to be canabals. Cannibalism was actually a punishment for them, but an accepted one. However, to be eaten by their own family was actually prefered to being eaten by strangers. Akims Munch is the food place that Sebulba was eating at when he attacked Jar Jar. Its said that the food there is is often undercooked and stringy. The Troll Market in Hellboy is a market that is hidden from the eyes of man. It is a magical market and is believed to have been originally placed in the Sahara desert. However, over the centuries, along with migration, the troll market relocated and it was later located under the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Faeries have been seen in the Market, along with many other magical and mythical items.

Food vendors and markets in media
Star Wars
Mos Espa marketplace:
This vast market is located in the planet of Tatooine and is split up into several specialized areas that offer services or sell things like fruits, meats and beverages. Some of the vendors and shops at this market include: Gragra (who sold gorgs) , Akim's Munch outdoor cafe and Jira's fruit stall.
HellBoy 2
the Troll market:
youtube
The set for the market was made in a Hungarian mine cave.
Characters:
Tumblr media
Silkard the fish vendor: I think the design of this character is very interesting as it has a frog-like, fishy appearance along with tentacle like arms, almost combining multiple different animals together. I also find it slightly funny that an aquatic looking creature is selling fish.
Tumblr media
Cathedralhead: I really like the stone like texture and pattern this character has and how it looks as if some parts of it's face/chin is missing which draws the viewers attention to its big eyes owl-like eyes. I also like the design of the cloths and how detailed they look along with the turquoise and gold colour palette.
Tumblr media
The Tadpole vendor: This characters design has a rugged nature about it that helps it fit in nicely with the the overall feel of the market setting. I like how the jars of tadpoles have been incorporated as something the creature carries around instead of them simply being on a market table.
These note book pages include concept sketches and research for character and designs done by Guilermo del Toro.

Starwars: Graga
A gorgmonger of the mos espa who sold gorgs (mos espa being the place where Anakin was born, not mos eisly, a wretched hive of scum and villainy.) the vendors of mos espa typically had cooling units to draw customers in. Gragas gorgs were fishlike creatures that were served in various fashions, both as an adult and as an egg. the eggs were used much like chicken eggs are used but the adults were served whole and were eaten by multiple species. Oh and also live. jabba the hutt is seen eating one at the beginning of the bunta eve classic in the episode 1 which is the 4th film as the beginning of the storyline. They look peculiar, but they would do being from another planet. They remind me of the gizka seen in the game Knights of the old republic

RESEARCH TWO
MINA LIMA:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are packages or advertisement for sweets.
The triangle one, I really love the colours of orange and red and the purple bluish font, which I feel that it really makes the letters pop, pluss red is a colour that is used to entice kids to buy the product as there are some tests that say, that the colour red makes you hungry. The colours of these package designs are really cool, really fit the theme of strange, weird out there. The logos are really inviting and magical; the butterfly is creepy and a weird and strange concept, like "sugar wings" (yum) This would also help me out with my logos as well and to come up with a name for it, when designing it like think about very funky child-like fonts, colours to entice them to buy it, or if I want to make it all gritty or adult themed or just a family meal themed, with more of bland but kinda interesting fonts etc.

STREET FOOD:
COUNTRIES FOODS I LOOKED AT: Czech Republic, Philippines, South Africa, Taipei Taiwan and Turkey
FOOD NAMES: Chimney Cake, Halo-Halo, Biltong, Stinky Tofu, Simit
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What differs from each country is actually quite fascinating, they are strange unique and uses very weird crazy ingredients / animals or design to make these known delicacies, also depending on the country, there is a huge use of their own tradition and creativity to make these foods.
Like for example the Chimney cake is just sweet bread but designed in a weird chimney shape, which makes you look at it like "weird" but then again, I believe that is the entire aesthetic just to bring you into the world of the strange, vast options of what you can choose from these street food stands.
Like for example the Halo-halo, this one looks like ya normal desert, full of ice cream, milk fruit and then you realise (beans) are in this treat as well, "surgar beans". which just proves of how unique and strange all these foods and deserts can be.
It also helps me come up with ideas on how to make my vendor, even maybe research vendors and ways they present their food etc.
