What is your favorite Hazbin Hotel ship?
Radiodust, hands down! Everything about them is 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 perfect.
Is it mostly because I project onto them both A Lot??? Yes. Is it also because me and my partner have a similar dynamic sometimes? Also yes. They’re also my two favorite characters to draw because they’ve got just the right mix of not to complicated and challenging, which makes them fun.
I’m a sucker for opposites attract and unlikely pairs, of which they are both. I like it better than charlastor because it’s more.., hmm, charlastor usually has one person shift to the other’s “side”. A lot of what I see focuses either on Charlie fully embracing her demonic powers and being more like Alastor, or Alastor starts believing in redemption and changes his ways to become more like Charlie. Which feels.... not completely like something that either of them would do? (Plus chaggie is an adorable ship and I love them so like, I can’t break that up!)
But with Angel Dust and Alastor we’ve still got the tension, but also tons of similarities, and most of what I see and imagine is them meeting the other halfway, learning and growing. It feels more natural to me I guess? I mean, they really have a lot in common. They’re both performers (though in vastly different fields), chaotic, with personas they feel the need to keep up in front of others, stereotypes they’re meant to fall into, and of course a similar love of violence. I feel they would both challenge each other in a good way, subvert each other’s expectations. I mean, right off the bat Angel doesn’t particularly care how powerful Alastor is when Vaggie warns him, he still goes right for the punch upon the first approach. Alastor, as seen in the comic, intimidates others easily, whether he wants to or not. He’s been in Hell long enough that it’s probably a reaction he’s gotten used to getting, even if he still tries to make conversation. And Angel Dust just breezes right past it! He’s the only one that made Alastor falter, Alastor who was running the show from the moment he stepped in the door. With every other character shown, Alastor knows exactly what he’s doing and is pretty much in control: manipulating Charlie well enough that he doesn’t hesitate to antagonize her girlfriend, knowing just how he could rope Husk in with really quite little effort. The only other event that got a surprised reaction out of Alastor was the literal door blowing up behind his back during his music number. This is not an easily flappable guy, but Angel Dust managed to genuinely surprise him.
I just think that says a lot.
