As someone who is ND themself and who has friends with “bad” ND disorders, I’m gonna ask neurotypical people to do a few things.
STOP DEMONIZING NEURODIVERGENT DISORDERS LIKE DID, BPD, BD, PSYCHOSIS, ASPD, ETC.
These people are NOT monsters, they are NOT your experiments to test on, they are NOT your hobby. They are living breathing people trying to live the best they can in a neurotypical focused world.
What bothers me the most is that these people are struggling, and then they don’t feel like they can reach out for help because the minute they do, they get demonized for it.
Another thing neurotypical people need to stop doing,
STOP INFANTILIZING PEOPLE WITH ADHD AND AUTISM. We are NOT infants. We are NOT incapable. We are NOT your “soft little baby.” Or some other bullshit.
We too, are people, we are also struggling, but treating us as if we’re incapable of doing anything when we very well could be is beyond insulting.
Neurodivergent people are just that, PEOPLE. Stop treating us otherwise. We just want respect.
Seriously.

Amaranth and Snowdrops Ch.2 - Cyclamen
Chapter two of Amaranth and Snowdrops! This one is Scott's backstory, which, of course, is traumatic and unnecessarily dramatic.
Also, apparently people wanted to be tagged for my terrible writing, so. I have a tag list now!
@1-800-crystalball
@thecatmotif
Scott had viewed his soulmate marks with a childish kind of wonder, the same excitement as he’d had when he was a child going on a heist with his father. His father had told him long, rambling tales about his mother, his father’s true soulmate. He’d heard him spin stories that he’d listen to for hours on end, hanging on every word. Stories of romance and stories of thrill-seeking, of the heists she went on with his father.
He remembered wishing she was here. That he’d gotten to meet her beyond little whispered lullabies as a little child, no older than two years old when she passed.
His father always got poetic when he talked about her death. As if her death was too hard to speak of normally. As if her death was too meaningful for cheap words. He’d describe it as another flower withered, fading away, so pretty in bloom, so devastating in passing. Or as the most beautiful rose of the garden blooming for the final time. He’d even described it as the harsh winter stealing the light and life of the garden. For that was how he always referred to Scott’s mother. As his flower, his rose, his beloved.
He remembered tracing the delicate petals of the sunset pink camellia flower on his father’s neck. He remembered wondering what his marks meant- the crumbling bricks on his left shoulder and the feathers arranged in a circular pattern on his right hand. He’d spent countless hours tracing them, drawing them, talking and gushing about them. And his father was always willing to talk about them, spinning theories and ideas for what they might be.
As his father traced the crumbling bricks on his shoulder until they faded into his skin, he spun tales of a brave explorer just like them, creeping their way into old and dusty ruins to snatch their treasures from right under the noses of all the snooty higher-ups. One who avoided all the traps with effortless expertise, sneaking in and out before anyone had ever noticed they were there. He always ended the story the same way—As the brave explorer tiptoes across the crossbeams, he sees a small light shining from the corridor. He leans closer, heart beating rapidly. Has he been caught? Are the authorities coming to arrest him? He hears their voices get louder, at least two of them. Can he hold them off long enough to escape?
Out of the shadows steps two figures—a tall, lanky individual with ocean-blue hair and a smaller person who is the spitting image of the first individual apar from his sky-blue hair. He feels an instant kinship with this person—he wants to get closer, wants to talk to him. So for the first time, he willingly reveals himself to these two travelers.
His father would swirl his finger around the circle of feathers on his hand, eliciting a ticklish feeling and a giggle from Scott. “Ticklish, eh? That’s probably how you’ll meet him, during a tickle fight,” His father would joke before moving his hands to Scott’s soft stomach to tickle him. Then he would begin the actual story, twisting together a tale of a bright-hearted avian who was fascinated by other hybrids and humans, curious to get closer and learn more about them. Maybe they were a parrot hybrid from Eversea, or an outcast dove from Stratos, or more likely, an avian from Animalia. One that would come up to Scott with bright eyes, asking about his day and his father and his culture and his day-to-day life and anything else he could think of to ask. And Scott would know, would know this was one of them, would ask him if he wanted to experience the life Scott lived, if he wanted to join him on his adventures. And of course the avian would say yes.
He was sixteen before he learned how silly that was. Nothing ever worked that way. Nothing was ever easy or perfect or certain and he’d been a fool to believe it was, to believe it could be. The whole idea of soulmates was a hoax. People meant for him? Who would love him and his flaws and had been guaranteed to him by the universe?
Don’t be stupid.
Or, in other words, he’d been sixteen when his father died.
He’d always figured his father would either go out in a bang—swinging into a temple with confidence and making it out, bleeding and on death’s doorstep, but eyes glowing with his final light as he assured Scott that it’d be alright, or diving into a burning city to rescue those trapped, going back in until everyone was out, regardless of the burns on his skin and the smoke in his lungs—or that he’d die peacefully, in his bed in their small little cottage, smiling up at Scott and telling him that he couldn’t wait to see his Camellia again.
So it was a brutal shock when his death came at the hands of people. When the nobles and their guards came at a late hour in the night, dragging his father out of the house and down the street, not stopping even as Scott begged and pleaded for them to stop. When his father looked back at him with fear in his eyes, uncertainty for the first time. When he learned that the reason for this cruelty was because his father had led a peaceful rally to change the government so that the poor could actually succeed, could be able to feed their families, could live fully. When they took him to the chopping block and Scott had to watch as his father’s head was severed from his body, as his bright flame was suddenly snuffed out, as Scott lost his best and only friend.
He fell to his knees, then, sobbing and crying and screaming. And when they came for him, he fought. He yelled and punched and kicked until they backed away, sporting bruises and scratches, and he ran. He ran off, into the night, away from this cruel, cruel town.
But the next day, he came back. He took his father’s body, burying it with his neighbors and friends and everyone who his father’s life had blessed in a cemetery next to his mother. It was a quiet funeral ceremony, everyone still shocked silent at the suddenness of his death.
And Scott swore he would leave and never come back here. There was nothing for him here, not anymore. So he whispered his last words to his father and mother, and then he walked out of the ceremony with purpose.
The next day, the palace was in an uproar. All of the important artifacts, the jewels, everything of the wealth that the nobles and king had that could be carried by one man, gone. According to the guards, they’d been stolen by a small thief with bright blue hair, who’d single-handedly disarmed and knocked out all of the guards in his way.
Scott never did go back to that town. As that kingdom tore itself apart and finally fell, he was forever away, storming off to more adventure and a new life.
He didn’t believe in magic or a perfect ending or soulmates anymore.
But he was alive, and he would live to the fullest. He would make his life bright and colorful and would do it all himself, building it from the ground up, and he didn’t care what anyone else thought.
So he went on quests and stole and brought cruel nobles down and inspired others to rise up and discard the cruelty of their leaders. He became known as a bounty hunter, a thief, a rebel, a homewrecker. He never stayed anywhere more than a week, always moving, always on the run. When he lost his eye, when the skull had taken it from him, he believed he could find a solution. Not because of magic or a perfect ending, but because he worked for it.
But then he found Chromia. It was so much like his old town, with its picturesque houses and roads—but here it was alive. Everyone was happy and kind and friendly and there were no cruel and power-hungry nobles to hurt them or keep them in fear.
Or. Not in Chromia, at least. In Glimmergrove there were many, taking advantage of the people of Chromia, buying barrels of dye for little in return. And now they’d fallen—serves them right—and Chromia was the one who suffered the most. They were not paid back, and their major trade partner was crippled.
Scott wouldn’t stand for that.
He came in and he rebuilt the economy, expanding barns and fields and providing food for them. He expanded their dye farms and marketed their export to the other empires, selling it for a fair price but accepting no less than what was fair. He made sure that no one went to bed hungry in Chromia and that everyone was taken care of. He brought Chromia from a town into an empire.
And, in time, the people began to call him their leader. He protested at first—he would have nothing to do with leadership—but they insisted. They believed in him, they trusted him, and they needed him.
He would not disappoint them.
So they announced him mayor, anointing him with a feather, of all things. They still didn’t have much, but they made him a dreamcatcher lined with gold leaf and adorned with parrot feathers and colorful beads.
It was the greatest gift he’d ever been given.
And there he decided. He would lead these people. He would help them and direct them and protect them. He would build Chromia up into a truly formidable empire.
He would stay.
And maybe, in time, he could learn to believe in soulmates again.
Scott pulled the brim of his fedora down, aligning it just right on his head. Today, they were welcoming several new empires to the continent. Many of them had arrived a few weeks ago, but today was the first formal interaction with them, and his first meeting with several of them. According to the letters he’d received, there were three new empires. Shelby of the Evermoore, who’d arrived five weeks ago; False of ‘I don’t remember’, who’d arrived last week; and Sausage of Sanctuary, who’d arrived a few days after Shelby. There was also Joey, who’d arrived nearly a year ago and had attended at least one formal meeting, so he didn’t count. There was also apparently an archeologist coming from a far-off empire to study the ruins in the savanna.
Which were, incidentally, the ruins he’d been scavenging things from in order to sell or add to his collection. So that may be an issue. He was a bit irritated that an empire that had no business here was sending out a representative to block off the ruins and stop others from taking what they needed from there, but who was he, a lowly emperor, to judge? He knew he wasn’t being quite fair, it was impolite to assume that the archeologist they were sending was as stuck-up and snooty as the nobles he’d encountered. Even if it was likely.
He knew, or at least knew of, the other emperors. He’d met Shelby personally, as she’d needed dyes for her shop. He had done it for an IOU, but her future exports would be particularly useful, and she seemed rather trustworthy. She was also a lower-class witch, and therefore much more entitled to his generosity.
False was rather elusive, with very few empires having met her. From what he’d heard, she was paranoid and awkward and apparently had no recollection of where she was from. He wasn’t sure what to think of her, but he felt slightly bad for her, being stranded in these lands with no recollection of her past.
Sausage—which was a terrible name, by the way—was apparently very loud and friendly, with an insecure streak if you asked too many questions. He was told to flinch at loud noises or quick movements, due to some past trauma or something, Scott wasn’t sure. From what he’d heard, the man was an avian, specifically a blue and gold macaw. He ignored the twinge in his heart when he heard that he was an avian. It meant nothing. Sausage apparently wouldn’t be engaging in any wars, because he was ‘peaceful.’ He didn’t know enough about him to draw an accurate picture, so he was hoping to learn more about him at the meeting.
Well. He didn’t want to be late. He had to make a good first impression, after all. Adjusting his handcrafted wings on his back, he marched out into his empire, smiling softly at the charming buildings and at his beloved citizens. He waved back at them, dipping his head in a greeting before rocketing up into the sky, eyes set on the far-away silhouette of spawn.
