Cool Running Themes in RWBY AUs Across the FNDM

I spend most of my fandom time on the AU side of things because it's more flexible, like a giant sandbox, and I just think it's really cool that we all use some of the same ideas in such different and creative ways so that it's recognizable as a RWBY AU. Some of my faves include

Oz/Salem divorce and/or falling out

The "Beacon (and the other academies) is something else" subgenre of RWBY fics

Ozma having some kind of legacy (passing down a title, magic, or something else)

Team RWBY stay a team (even in modern settings or "the academies are different" types of AUs)

Raven still left

Summer is still dead/missing

The Branwen Tribe still exists (but it's different!)

The Grimm are still there (but they're different!)

The White Fang still exists (but it's different!)

Weiss is still Ice Queen (whether literally or figuratively)

Hi! It is I, your rwby fanworks exchange gifter😁✨ I think I have some nice ideas to work out, but I need a clearer picture for some of them;

What would Oz, Qrow, Qorbyn and Olivia think of amusement parks? Do they all like rollercoasters? Would they drag the others along to different places/rides? And, who do you think would win in a pillow fight?

Hi!!!! :D

The family would love to go to amusement parks, although due to work (derogatory) it’s kinda hard to do that sometimes.

But when they are able to go, they enjoy it! :D

Here’s a small rundown for the amusement park:

- Ozpin likes the calmer things, and prefers to check out the small shops and stuff they’ve got at the amusement park. Doesn’t mean he isn’t okay with going on the rides with the family though (he just has to be careful that his glasses don’t come flying off)

- Qrow loves everything adrenaline inducing haha. Always has to have Oz or one of the kids with him otherwise he will accidentally make himself sick oops. He’s less “being dragged on the ride” and more “being dragged off the ride”

- Olivia is fine with just about everything, pretty chill with it all. Loves the water park if they have one though. She takes every ride like a champ

- Qorbyn loves ONLY the water park and small shops, as a child she would genuinely cry over having to go on a rollercoaster because they freaked her out so much (not me projecting, no siree… 👀), when she’s older it… doesn’t get better, she still hates them and will sometimes cry over having to go on one.

As for a pillow fight…

- Olivia and Qrow are trying to just straight up murder each other. They’re pretty evenly matched so each one could win

- Qorbyn and Oz will pick sides occasionally, sometimes they’ll throw pillows at Qrow or Olivia and both will get offended (e.g. “you would hit your own husband/pops???” “How could you do that to your own daughter/sister??!!”)

- it’s the quiet ones you have to worry abt because those two rarely will ever go against each other (instead they’re plotting >:3c)

Think about Qrow and Raven splitting their loyalties

Qrow staying with Ozpin and Raven going back to the tribe.

Both of them feeling betrayed by the only constant in their life.

Both wanting to let go, wanting be allowed to hate the other, but not being able to fully commit to cutting ties.

Raven keeping her kindred link to Qrow despite it all.

They can't forgive, but they won't forget.

Okay bestie, I have QUESTIONS.

For the Self Aware AU, mainly: what is the goal for the Oz's in this AU 👀 (like how in canon they are supposed to unite humanity and all that)

They still keep their original goal of trying to unite humanity. But it’s more what happens afterwards that’s the cronchy part

So basically, after Salem is defeated and whatnot (and this is also an au where the merge doesn’t exist because I’m ✨bitter✨), they begin starting to try and find out why they’re so self aware and why they’re seeing things that other people aren’t seeing (which is another thing happening. For example, they see silhouettes of people watching them but for a while don’t process that these are actual beings and not hallucinations or something)

So it’s basically a slow process of: anyone with magic in the series is self aware, hence why I mentioned Qrow and Ruby, since they both technically have magic too.

I haven’t put too much thought into it but it’s cronchy and we’re moving on-

Ozpin and Oscar centric lol (also maybe Qrow and Ruby are there too but like, later on???)

In terms of “Oscar and Ozpin know they’re not Real™️ and that nobody else is Real™️ either”

And every Oz incarnation has this happen where they know there are higher beings out there watching them.

I just think it’s funky.

So like, once Oscar becomes the next incarnation, he probably becomes self aware like Oz was.
