Forty eight of the country’s smart and pretty young girls ages from 7 to 12 years old were presented to selected members of the press as the official candidates for the inaugural edition of Munting Mutya Ng Pilipinas 2019. The event was held at the ballroom of Richmonde Hotel in Eastwood, Quezon Cit last Sunday, September 22. The pageant for the young generation is being organized by Star Builder Production and Talent Management, one of the pillars in discovering fresh talents in the Philippines. The press presentation was hosted by RH TV icons and one of the hosts of “Beauty and the best Mr. Atorni Ton. The search aims to hone the candidates to be a future ambassadress and advocates of peace , to empower the young generations, value education and promote the country as one of the many tourist destinations in the world. Star Builder and its chosen foundation Isang Lapis at Pale, Isang Pangarap Project would like to promote camaraderie among the contestants and raise awareness on the issues of bullying and discrimination. Munting Mutya Ng Pilipinas will make a young girl dream comes true to the reach for her stars and the realization of her aspirations in life

Tears, fears.

Like any other 24th, I am reminded again today that life takes on different turns and most of the time, you wont be able to do anything about it except, reflect whether it happened to be for better or for worse. 

"Happey hihi <3" I wrote on facebook, 6 years ago. What could have made me so excited back then, that I misspelled happy, for crying out loud. 

I posted the song "Runaway Train" 3 years ago. Why would I think about escaping? and what was it that I wanted to runaway from? 

I quoted one of my favorite professors 9 years ago: "Bakit gustong gusto niyong pinapahirapan ang mga sarili niyo?"  ("Why do you (students) love making it so hard for yourselves?") -- and now I'm laughing while trying to remember my university life. The struggle and the hustle. My home team. The fears and tears. 

I remember drawing some four pages of comics and a full page poem about my life for my World Literature class, 1 hour before submission. It's because I also had to review cases for our International Law exam the night before. I wasn't so sharp about Politics but I'd bet my heart for Art. I was so confident that I'd be able to produce a worthy piece even if I'd be in a hurry. I guess I was able to survive both sides of my degree because of hard work but the duality confused me big time as well, during that time. 

Did I mention I was also part of the student organization then? As in active officer - making project proposals, holding meetings, helping a charity, holding student funds kind of involvement? To be Sylvia Plath or Plato? couldn't even decide before too. 

I also remember borrowing money from my classmate to buy lunch in the canteen because I've spent mine for photocopying documents required to do a homework. Man, back then I couldn't even afford buying the books that I've wanted to read or be in concerts that I've wanted to attend, so I've spent extra time inside our school library to find Nicholas Sparks and Paulo Coelho on the shelves. Sometimes I browsed Sheldon too. I watched concert playbacks on youtube at home. Volunteered to look for my Tito's computer shop to burn CDs and read celebrity gossips on the side.

I wasn't the perfect A class student but I knew my way in College so I was able to create great memories without compromising my academics. We weren't so poor as well, my Mom has been the best provider but I didn't like the idea of bothering her all the time with all the money that I needed for school. 

In life, it is okay not to know everything but we should identify our priorities well. If not for the difficulties that I've encountered as a student I wouldn't be able to realize what was I really going for in this life. 

If I wanted to be a Consul or the next Ambassadress of the Philippines to Japan, I should've studied more. If I wanted to be a future National Artist nominee, I should've taken that UP ticket to finish an Art degree. But what did my dumb ass I want to be when I was 17? to be a writer -- and as a writer, I thought I needed experiences. I didn't want to be a hero, just a normal person fighting for what I believe in, pursuing dreams, and being able to make the people I love, proud of me. So I lived to experience life as it is. I tried to be strong as much as I could. I tried to love so well, so that no one would ever feel I am half hearted. (because I never am) I didn't think my name would be written in history books, but I was more sure, I would be written in someone else's mind.  

And what's more beautiful than having influenced someone's soul to be happier? or to be braver? I don't think there's a better compliment than that.

But did I become a writer? No I did not, not in a professional sense because, you know, life!! but that's another story. Till next!!

Berioso Nineteen year-old university student from Imus, Cavite is this year’s Philippines entry to the second edition of Miss Tourism Worldwide 2019. Camille Joy Cabanas Ang is leaving on Tuesday, September 17 for Singapore to start her quest for a back to back title in the 2 year-old beauty pageant won by fellow Filipina Zara Carbonell last year. A freshman student of Lyceum University of Manila taking up Cruise Line and Hotel Management, Camille is all set to compete with twenty-nine other international delegates from around the world. A special send-off press conference was held last Sunday, Sept 15 at the coffee shop of Novotel Hotel, Araneta Center in Quezon City attended by selected members of the media. Local franchise owner of the pageant Miss Mitzie Go Gil was present to give her full support to Camille. Mitzie the woman behind Queen of Hearts Foundation, Inc. that runs the Mrs. Asia-Pacific Philippines, a beauty contest intended for mothers and married women. Also present during the occasion are some of the winners of the inaugural edition of the pageant led by Avon Morales Mrs. Asia Pacific Global 2019, Mrs. Asia Pacific Worldwide Llena Arcena and Mrs. Asia Pacific Cosmopolitan Mary Grace Camacho. Camille was unanimously chosen during a special screening held few weeks ago. Fresh from her stint at the recently concluded Mutya Pilipinas pageant, the charming Cavitena wants to promote the culture and tradition of the Philippines among her fellow candidates. She loves reading and describe herself as patriotic, conservative and hospitable a typical characteristic of a genuine Cavitena. Her national costume and evening gown will be provided by Filipino designer and DCP officer Edwin Uy. Miss Tourism Worldwide,a pageant under Lumiere International will culminate in a grand coronation night on September 22 in Batam, Indonesia. The winner will be the official ambassadress of the pageant for one whole year. We wish Camille all the best of luck in her forth coming international pageant!
