Whilst the kids do visit Earth and Yuu's family now and then, Kei is the only one that consistently travels back and forth for Kabuki training.

Since one of my friends asked for anime suggestions, I figured I would make a small list for them here as a post.

1. Welcome to demon school Iruma Kun

Type: comedy and school life

My personal summary: a hilarious anime about a boy who gets adopted by the king of demons. The protag is very likable in my opinion as he is a good guy but also a doormat so it’s fun to see him grow with his friends. Just genuinely very fun, but also follows somewhat of a story line and can have its touching moments. Just 10/10 if you want a good light hearted laugh I would say. Highly suggest for those who want to watch a casual anime that will make them laugh.

2. Toilet Bound Hanako Kun

Type: fantasy and school life (also bit romance)

My personal summary: girl meets spirit boy with a dark side and now is his assistant because she effed up because she is a little boy crazy for handsome guys. But it’s okay cause now she goes on whacky adventures with spirits and is trying to get to know the spirit boy who kinda saved her and continues to save her. This one is both funny and sweet, but also can be dark at times. The characters all have very interesting personalities and dynamics, and the cast is actually pretty small so you get to see a lot more of the main characters develop. Very good story wise and character wise. Highly suggest to lovers of fantasy but are also not too into anime.

3. Assassination classroom

Type: Comedy, coming of age, and School life

My personal summary: Teenagers are earths last hope to be saved from destruction as they are tasked to kill their teacher who looks like a man and an octopus had a baby that has super strength and speed. This is my all time favorite anime, and it is a very, very, VERY touching underdog story. It has so much humor but also so much darkness but so many of the characters feel real and it still to this day has arguably the saddest yet most satisfying endings in anime that I have seen, and I watched it back in 2017ish. It just has a bit of everything and the storyline is amazing, the characters are so well written, and the concept is very interesting as well. I just would not recommend this to those who aren’t comfortable with fan service, as it does appear a bit often in this one. Highly suggest to anyone who wants to watch a found family or underdog story. Also, amazing English dub, one of the few animes I suggest the English dub over the English sub (English sub is good too, but I love the dub so much).

4. Bloom into you

Type: romance, coming of age, school

My personal summary: very gay, and very well written. It’s a story that follows Yuu Koito who is a late bloomer who doesn’t get love, which she has constantly read in the media and had this big expectation for. She then meets her schools class president who takes a liking to her knowing Yuu doesn’t think she can fall in love with someone. This is very good I think for lgbtq+ rep as it takes the topics very seriously and handles them respectfully. It handles questioning sexuality and finding yourself, as well as taking pride in it. It expresses both being a lesbian and asexual, as well as late bloomers and domestic lesbians. It also handles topics of mourning and bad ways of coping and expectations from what I remember. I am more of a manga reader but I have heard splendid reviews about the anime, the only thing is that this series is a lot more serious and the anime isn’t finished (the manga is though, so I suggest this path more if you can afford it.) highly suggest for anyone wanting lgbtq+ rep.

5. Rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai

Type: sci-fi, romance (this one doesn’teel like school at all but they are high schoolers)

My personal summary: a sci-fi take on high schoolers teenage years and problems, following Sakura as he tries to help and solve the cases of people with “adolescence syndrome”, which is surrounded by their problems and insecurities in life that causes abnormal and supernatural things to happen. Very compelling story and again is more serious, but it also knows how to hit you in the feels. The main characters are lovable and have one of the best romances I have seen in anime, and all the other characters are really likable too. I highly suggest to anyone interested in a good story because this one just takes the cake.

6. New game!(!)

Type: slice of life

My personal summary: mc is a girl who gets a game designing job right out of high school and now must work on a team with her idol. Very light hearted, and also quite gay in my opinion. I personally like slice of life yuri genres and etc., but this one is my favorite. The cast is lovable again (always important), and it has this theme of working hard and going after your dreams. It is one with a bit of fan service (far less than others, but still a warning for my younger friends following), but it makes up for those moments with very heart felt moments between characters. I genuinely adore the second season as for a slice of life genre, it follows a bit more of a story and it gets a lot gayer. However, being a slice of life it isn’t really explicitly lgbtq+ rep, but there is one couple that has major subtexts and moments and a really cute scene at the ending. I do suggest this to those who like the slice of life genre and perhaps want a bit of lgbtq+ rep, but not to anyone who doesn’t like slower paced stories. Oh, and also the art style is adorable.

7. Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace

Type: mystery, bit of a thriller

My personal summary: just a really good detective series. I haven’t watched this one in two years, but whenever I think about a dark mystery series, this is one of the top 3 to come to my mind, and is the most underrated one. It’s just very dark but also very compelling, so I suggest this to anyone who likes those sort of things. It also has an amazing English dub.

8. Little witch academia

Type: coming of age, fantasy, school life

My personal summary: another underdog story about a girl who dreams of becoming a witch like her idol and going to witch school… must I say more? It’s the gay witchcraft vibe that we all adore, a funny and lovable story that follows a girl chasing her dreams to become a witch. Again, likable characters, and an interesting story. It also has a unique art style that is adorable, and is very accessible seeing as its on Netflix. I highly suggest for younger viewers as this one is very kid friendly from what I know, but is also an amazing story with a nice fantasy aspect. Also, there is a bit of gay subtext and a hell of a lot of diakko shippers for wlw content if you like that (with a rival to lovers dynamic). MC can be paired with a guy or girl depending on how you wish to interpret it, and that screams bi rights to me :)))

Dhel hates this and likely any woman who tries to address him this way. Use this term in bed and he’ll probably toss you straight out the window without bothering to open it first. Did I mention he lives in the penthouse on the top floor?

hair colour. Thick, silky, and blacker than a crow’s wing with azure highlights in the sun. Mostly straight, though the jagged ends often sweep out in all directions. He has two long strands that drape over his shoulders and touch his abs, shaggy bangs, and the rest is a choppy mess.

eye colour.  Beneath the lime green glow, his irises are a rich chocolate brown with gold flecks. They resemble a deeper, darker tiger’s eye held up to light.

relationship status. Although he’ll tell you he’s married to his work, Dhel isn’t actually committed and doesn’t even seem to be dating anyone. But honestly, with his acid tongue and icy nature, that probably isn’t surprising. At this point, I’m not sure anyone could put up with him long enough to actually want to start a romantic relationship. When it comes to warming up to people, he moves slower than a glacier. A romance with Dhel takes time and effort, but in return, you’ll get a devoted elf who will move the universe for you.

financial status. Wealthy. Although a teacher’s salary won’t usually afford you a lavish life, Dhel is a prince from two long lines of royalty and noble blood... which means he has plenty of access to the family coffers. He also offers private tutoring for promising students and fronts a popular rock band during the summer and winter semesters.

driver’s license. I don’t think Azeroth really requires a driver’s license, but if it did--or if he were transplanted to modern day Earth--he would certainly make it a point to get his license. And probably be heavily invested in car mechanics.

Dhel has never been suspected of, charged, nor convicted for any crimes; his record is cleaner than a fresh sheet. But he is certainly guilty of several less-than-savoury activities, including (but not limited to):

Want to romance him or encourage him to romance you? Banter with him. Few things draw his attention more readily than a person who can keep up with him and go verbal blow for blow. His idea of flirting is bickering to test the waters.

For his brothers and his family, he is wholly generous and willing to go out of his way to please them... but with a romantic partner, he looks for someone who will martyr themselves for him the same way he feels he plays the martyr for his loved ones. He seeks out those who like pain, those who have abandonment or connection issues so he can wind them around his finger and force them to be completely reliant on him. It’s another form of having control and Dhel is one bajillion percent a control freak.

Snowboarding and ice skating. He loves winter sports. 

Polar bearing with his brothers, much to their mother’s concern.

Tinkering with engineering. He likes building clockwork golems and toys, and his little siblings’ rooms are full of his experiments; the music boxes and robotic dinosaurs sit on the shelves alongside the dolls Bren creates.

Ice sculpting. His mother has a private garden dedicated to all the sculptures he’s made over the years.

Collecting books. The man could rent out his houses as libraries and if he’s traveling, you can bet he’s probably stopping in every bookstore he comes across.

Reading everything he can get his hands on. Doesn’t matter what it is, he’ll read it. You can never have too much knowledge.

Traveling and urban exploration. Dhel enjoys the strange peace he finds in the ruins of past civilizations.

Baiting people with biting banter. It’s how he vets them and uncovers those he deems worthy of his time.

Tea ceremony. Tea is his drink of choice and, as with anything he enjoys, he takes great care to learn everything he can about it. He is certified to teach the tea ceremony and has given demonstrations as an afterschool activity for those students who are interested.

Playing piano. As a child, he and his brothers were encouraged to study everything, including the arts. The triplets were allowed to choose their instruments and Dhel chose piano. He certainly has the fingers for it.

Making paper lanterns and origami. Folding the paper in such careful lines gives him a measure of peace and control; crafting soothes him in much the same way teaching does. 

Astronomy. He’s insanely curious about the stars and the worlds that lie beyond his own. One of his goals involves visiting foreign planets, especially when he visits the Consortium and hears their tales of strange places light-years away.

Hide-and-seek. As a kid, he was the hide-and-seek champion and he still enjoys playing with his younger siblings, his nieces, nephews, and small cousins.

mental illnesses.

Clinical depression.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder. His OCD manifests in:

Unwanted acts of aggression (the urge to harm people)

The need for exactness or being as close to correct as possible.

physical illnesses.  While these aren’t exactly illnesses, they do cause him great physical stress. Dhel’s runic tattoos are actually a terrible curse etched into his skin and any time he channels magic of any variety, his body suffers excruciating agony of the sort that makes a person pray for death. When the weather is bad, his ankles cause him tremendous pain and he becomes even grouchier than usual while he struggles to keep himself from limping in front of other people.

left or right brained.  A pretty even mixture of both. He’s coldly logical but capable of great creativity and emotion.

Losing any members of his family or his few friends.

self confidence level.  Dhel comes across as perfectly at home in his own skin and, for the most part, he is. It’s the stuff behind the attractive curtains he worries people will see, but he keeps those curtains glued together.

vulnerabilities.  Thanks to his curse, he isn’t able to sustain extended spellcasting. If you can exhaust him magically, then he’ll be forced to fight you physically. His ankles and feet are a weak spot. His family, though he takes great pains to ensure their safety behind the scenes because he’s a suspicious asshole.

FANTASY DRABBLE: REMEMBER YOUR ORIGINS (V)

[ Chapter V: Expected Encounter. ]

Man, Deku just really didn’t have it in him to turn away from those in need of help, after all. When he heard that a small, neighboring village had basically been taken over by bandits, he ended up asking which direction this village was before heading on over there the next day. The north-eastern region of the continent’s been all sorts of hostility left and right since the last time he, or well, just about anybody from UA Guild had been within area. Part of him had a solid feeling that, since he tried to decipher the scroll on the mechanical magic weapon, majority revolved around that very object. Prince Todoroki had been shot with it once; the freelancer himself even encountered a group of thieves where one or two of them had one; and with Rokusuke technically being a secretive outpost sentry nearby noting who came and went, it was pretty clear what changes had been done. Seems like Shie Hassakai has been distributing these weapons around within the northern half of the continent, and from the sounds of it they were handing it out under the radar to people who were up to no good as well. Something like this, he just couldn’t idly sit by, especially if it meant ransacking an entire village and pulling it by the reins.

Upon arriving, the freelancer was quick to notice the lack of security or overall density of people around the outskirts of the village. Loud commotions further on in encouraged him to sneak in to investigate, and when he reached the center of the whole village, he was met with a mass of what must’ve been the remainder of villagers, crying, whimpering, begging for mercy as they gazed up woefully at makeshift gallows.

It was a small bunch, really. No more than eight or so bandits along with the supposed leader hoping the ropes. Every single one of them, however, had that very same mechanical weapon that the Prince had brought back to the guild hall. These men were armed with magic weapons that apparently could fire quicker than the eye. A devilish grin played at the leader’s lips as he spoke out at the crowds. One by one, the man addressed each victim’s ‘crimes’, putting each one on the spotlight for what deeds they’re being executed for. An adolescent boy, an elder couple, a pissed off woman, and then a person with their minstrel’s hat somewhat large enough to let itself hang over the owner’s eyes.

All five of these people were going to be hanged for refusing or defending against the bandits. Deku needed to save them, but he had to think it through. Get too hasty, and he’ll risk having to fight all eight at once; but take too long, and he’ll fail to save those villagers and obvious outsider. Should he take some of the enemies out? Or save the people first? Stealth through as many as possible or reveal himself right from the get-go? The leader is the biggest concern, he’s holding those people’s lives on a thread after all... If it’s going to come down to it, then he’d just rather risk his life than let those people die.  Right, listen to your body. Less thinking, and more moving...! Rokusuke was always persistent about that, after all --- with the way Deku’s mind worked, he didn’t need to think up a plan right from the very start.

The second that the leader began to pull at the ropes, an arrow was shot right where they all tied together in a bundle, lodging it into the post it was hooked on and gluing it in place with green, adhesive substance. Deku had honestly been saving these ground-up materials for when he considered making something like ‘sticky bombs’ or alternative gauze in the future. When he found the material in his satchel, though he instantly stuck a big, gelatinous lump of it onto that arrow without thinking. Everyone was high on alert and confusion by the interruption, and he’d quickly tosses a small sack of explosive power into the air before shooting a hastily channeled fire arrow at it. Deku’s body instantly pushed itself forward, dropping his bow in the midst of the distraction before unsheathing his sword and aiming it right at the arms of the two occupying the bottom of the stairs.

He hadn’t meant to cut the arms clean off from the body on the guy behind the one in front. When he channeled lightning magic into his sword, he swung it down to hit the mechanical weapon and give the man one hell of a shock. It wasn’t until he shifted his gaze on the second man did he actually witness it --- from the very end of his sword, it was like his magic continued to trail forward like a projection with the momentum. A trail of a white-hot lightning slash cut down through the air, its movement almost like a whip, and when the other grunt had noticed it just in time he was only able to shove himself aside enough to sacrifice just his arms. Well, at least he won’t be firing any magic bullets at Deku any time soon.

A third bandit was just beginning to take the turn down the stairs when the freelancer somehow retracted the magic and fought off the first enemy in tow. Thanks to Rokusuke-- no, Dusk, he’d learned to somehow twist a fluid parry enough to swiftly turn the enemy’s on weapon against him. He wrapped his arm around the one with the magic weapon like a snake, forcing the man to aim at his own foot, and pulled the trigger to send the man tumbling down the stairs wailing in agony from a bleeding gunshot to the foot. 

The bandit atop the staircase pointed his gun, and Deku was just able to dodge in time for it to only graze his cheek and leave a cut. Lightning magic sparked about around his feet, and when the bandit tried shooting again he was wildly attempting to aim at the freelancer lunging up the stairs in a zig-zag, shooting himself off from the wooden railing and the posts below the gallows’ platform, leaving a surprising neon green in his wake. Deku tackled the third bandit to the floor. He whacked the back of his sword hilt on the enemy’s wrist to disarm his weapon before a karate chop on the back of the neck for a knock-out. He was immediately jumping onto his feet again with the help of his magic, and then---

---B A N G .

Pain shot through his right thigh, a hole on both ends when the magic bullet pierced right through the flesh. It stunted his prepared lunge, made the freelancer fall flat forward before he could even catch himself. Smoke fumed from the end of the weapon’s barrel in the hands of the leader, and he scoffed rather mockingly as he approached the young man.

“‘Nother troublemaker tryna play hero, ‘uh? Jus’ ‘cause you got fancy tricks up yer sleeves?” He kicked Deku’s sword ways away when he tried to force himself back up onto his feet, and then he kicked the freelancer square in the jaw before spatting on his face and readying his magic weapon with a click. “‘Second you stopped, and now yer sprawled out all p’thetic-like on the floors of the gallows. No escapin’ from these babies, lemme tell ya.”

There was a devious chuckle as the leader gestured to his weapon, now aiming it right at Deku’s head alongside the remaining five. Deku clenched his teeth, his mind wildly scrambling to slip right out of this.

“Huh... Now that I got a good look at you, I finally figured out why you seemed so familiar.” The leader leaned in a bit closer, and then felt a sinister grin tug at a corner of his lips. “Yeah, you’re that greenie boy those cult freaks wanted. Told us to capture you should we ever find ya.”

“Too bad we ‘accidentally had to kill ya in the middle of the fight’. Guess if you’re here, though, then that little girl they asked for much be ‘round, too. S’okay, she fetches at a much higher price than you do, anyways.”

Something about his and his lackeys laughter seemed to struck a tightly-woven nerve in Deku’s mind. There was no way he’d let anyone get their hands on Eri, even if she isn’t even with him right now! She’d gone through too much, and they all cared about her too much. This intense look in Deku’s eyes fiercely grew with vehement resolution. He could feel the tattoo over his chest beginning to sear through the skin just to resonate with his heart.

Never. He’s never going to let her or anybody like her ever suffer again...! Not now. And not ever..!!

“Ah...! So you actually ended up bearing One for All after all.”

A magic bullet was fired, but suddenly it phased out of existence in the blink of an eye, looking as if it phased through an invisible wall and into another dimension right in front of Deku’s face. Instead of the freelancer going limp on the floor, there was a sharp, painful yell as one of the bandits behind the leader instantly collapsed to the ground, clutching his hand and staring at the wide and bloody hole one could see right through. Something like a familiar sensation wafted over Deku when his eyes trailed over at the other outsider moving up onto their feet, leaving him in a state of awe, bewilderment, confusion. It wasn’t until he felt the wind pick up, and watched the leaves encircle the remaining villains before going razor sharp to slash at their arms to drop the weapons before they were lifted into the air, did he realize where he’d felt this type of magic play out before.

“I knew you’d have it in you, Adventurer Deku.” This outsider’s expression went bright as they tipped their hat up to smile for a greeting. Pale-cream locks of curly hair danced with the wind about them underneath their minstrel’s hat, and when both of the two had their eyes meet, theirs shone in a brilliant emerald hue. “I actually expected you to come sooner or later.”

They, too, were a shaman, just like Yuu.

Hello, lovely writer!

I’m reconditarmonia here and on AO3 (and have been since LJ days, but my LJ is locked down and I only have a DW to see locked things).

General likes:

-- Relationships that aren’t built on romance or attraction. They can be romantic or sexual as well, but my favorite ships are all ones where it would still be interesting or compelling if the romantic component never materialized.

-- Loyalty kink, whether commander-subordinate or comrades-in-arms, and the trust associated with it. Sometimes-but-not-always relatedly, idealism. I guess the two combined might be, in general, the idea of nobility of character and what that means.

-- Heists, or other stories where there’s a lot of planning and then we see how the plan goes.

-- Femslash, complicated or intense relationships between women, and female-centric gen. Women doing “male” stuff.

-- Stories whose emotional climax or resolution isn’t the sex scene, if there is one.

-- Uniforms/costumes/clothing.

-- Stories, history, and performance. What gets told and how, what doesn’t get told or written down, behavior in a society where everyone’s consuming media and aware of its tropes, how people create their personas and script their own lines.

-- Eucatastrophe.

Fandom: Dòu Máah Dáan | Peking Opera Blues (1986) 

Characters: Tsao Wan

This film is so much MORE than I ever dreamed. More hilarious, more shippy, more dramatic. I think what I want most from this fandom is something on a similar emotional scale - not necessarily something where the plot itself has a national or international scope, but something that has room for opera slapstick, corpse puppetry, and torture; material concerns, and high aspirations; saving each other’s lives, and having sleepovers. Thematically, I’m really interested in the way the film shows friendship and familial love sometimes dovetailing with ethics and ideological goals and sometimes conflicting with them, and in the various ways women can find, or seek, their own independence.

Tsao Wan is the only character I’ve put in my request. I was fully expecting to come out of the film with femslash ships, and instead I have a big OT5 and a huge crush on Brigitte Lin (okay, that part I could see coming), so I’d be happy with any combination of the main five, including the two men, who were not nominated, as long as Tsao Wan is there. Some combination possibilities: how do any of them meet up again after the events of the film, whether by chance - do Bai Niu and/or Sheung Hung happen to be making a tour stop somewhere Tsao Wan has a mission? does Tsao Wan and Ling’s work take them near Tung’s village farm? - or intentionally - how would a new opera about Tsao Wan and Ling’s exciting adventures be created by Bai Niu and/or Sheung Hung, in terms of research and role creation? Or maybe Tsao Wan needs Bai Niu’s skills for a mission. In fact, maybe she needs everyone’s skills for a mission. Recruitment road trip! Some solo possibilities: what was Tsao Wan’s time in Europe like? Was she involved in any political activity there? What does she do post-film as History continues? In anything set post-film, I’d like to know that all five characters are important to each other, even if they’re not actually in the fic and/or sexually involved.

If you want to get really plotty, I love heist and con stuff like Leverage, Ocean’s Eleven (remake), and The Italian Job (original), where there’s a Plan with steps and roles, and then it plays out. If straight-up casefic isn’t your style, it could be fun to throw some shippy tropes at this canon (fake marriage where Tsao Wan is pretending to be the husband? hurt/comfort or sickfic? hell, I’d read accidental baby acquisition), but tropey stuff is not necessary - I’m just trying to throw out some ideas to get things moving. Ideally there’d be at least a figleaf of plot in the background, even if it’s not casefic.

Fandom-specific DNW: Explicit references to torture are still a hard DNW (I covered my eyes during the scene in question when watching the film), but I recognize it’s part of canon and consequently might be part of the world of the fic. If someone is tortured or creatively executed in your story, it’s fine to mention it but I do not want to know how.

Fandom: Far from the Madding Crowd - Thomas Hardy

Characters: Bathsheba Everdene

I didn’t nominate this and it didn’t occur to me that it would be in the tagset, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it! One thing that always sticks in my mind about this novel is the way Hardy calls Bathsheba “the young farmer” just as he refers to the men as farmers - which, just saying, is more than most people writing about this story can do - and so, that being the case, what I’m most interested in is something about Bathsheba as farmer. One day in the life or four seasons in the life or five plantings/harvests in the life, or pseudo-academic fic about a case study of a woman farmer in the Victorian era, or a conflict between the farm and nature that Bathsheba has to decide how to solve.

Feel free to bring in the other nominated characters or other major characters if it suits what you’re trying to do, but what I’m really looking for is a focus on Bathsheba’s work, determination, and process of learning. I’d also love to read something like a merchant ship AU (as the first alternate setting that came to mind where it would be not exactly the done thing for her to captain her inherited ship and make commercial decisions herself - although I do have to point out that contrary to popular belief, there were a lot of women on shipboard in the age of sail, may this be useful - but also where nature and luck/fate are as influential as they are in the original setting), or something in which the land, superstition, and ritual were more overtly magical.

Fandom: 月刊少女野崎くん | Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

Characters: Kashima Yuu, Nozaki Umetarou

Pick a trope. Have them fuck it up.

That’s one of the things that makes me love this canon - the simultaneous send-up of and indulgence in tropes, in a very good-natured way. (Another way I’ve described its genre: “nothing happens, but very dramatically.” Everything is shocking or devastating or the pinnacle of bliss.) Kashima and Nozaki are two of the characters whose propensity to do this is most likely to set a story in motion, due to Nozaki’s experimentation/observation for his manga and Kashima’s princely self-fashioning and going 120% on everything; I also love Kashima’s bifauxnen-ness, acting talent, and earnest failboating, and the way that Nozaki could have been written as a tall-dark-handsome-stoic cipher guy and instead is just as quirky as anyone else. That said, this is an OR request, not an AND, and I’d also be happy to read stories about pretty much anyone from the nominated tagset (except Mikoshiba or Mayu; I don’t know Mayu very well because I originally got into this through the anime, and Mikoshiba just isn’t my fave, although I have no objection to his appearing in the story).

There are all sorts of lists out there of common shoujo(/romcom/fanfic) tropes if you’re not sure where to start. And, because Nozaki is all about subverting gendered characterization and role-boxing, and also about people trying to make their lives conform to narrative, go ahead and apply those tropes to whichever characters you feel would be the most interesting or fun. Feel free to pick non-high-school-setting ones, too, if there's magical/historical/high-society shoujo you want to see them tackle, or to take a play that Kashima (and whoever else) is involved in as a jumping-off point.

As you may have gathered, I love the way the canon plays with romance tropes, but I would prefer no overt Shipfic. If you’d like to include a ship, whether slash/femslash or het, I’d like for it to be handled without much seriousness, and for friendship with characters who aren’t part of the ship to be a significant part of the fic, as per canon. I do really like the show’s variety of friendships between characters of different temperaments, interests, and sexes.

If you’re really getting a “why don’t you just rewatch/reread the canon, reconditarmonia” vibe off this, which I’m kind of giving myself, you could try sex comedy future fic? Give them magical powers? What I’m most interested in, wherever you go with this, is the playing-with-tropes thing.

Fandom-specific DNW: I love Hori and Kashima’s relationship, but I’d strongly prefer that her feelings for him not be written as overtly romantic. High levels of ambiguity/intensity/tropey-ness are fine and great.

Fandom: Monstrous Regiment - Terry Pratchett

Characters: Any (Alice “Wazzer” Goom, Jack Jackrum, Magda “Tonker” Halter, Maladict, Polly “Ozzer” Perks, Tilda “Lofty” Tewt)

Give me all the loyalty kink for this fandom. Characters rescuing each other from peril, risking their reputation or position or ethics to defend each other, accomplishing the impossible or sacrificing things without even thinking twice because one trusts the other’s orders or judgment. Or A not going off the leash or into danger to defend B because B said not to, to protect A’s conscience or life or reputation. Can be romantic or platonic - I ship Polly/Mal and Tonker/Lofty, but I would also be delighted with Polly&Jackrum, Wazzer&Polly, or other non-romantic twosomes or moresomes in situations of loyalty and trust. Maybe Polly sends Mal on a dangerous mission, or Tonker is captured after she and Lofty burn down another place where women and girls are being abused, or Polly protects Jackrum’s secret/s from someone who could reveal them, or Wazzer ends up in the field again with the general’s retinue and Polly and Mal rescue her from danger (or vice versa!!). What strengths or sacrifices do they have at their disposal for each other?

Pratchett-esque voices would be great. He’s really, really good at sucker-punching the reader with sincerity in an overall satiric mode, and I think that style lends itself well to this sort of thing.

I’m not going to lie, Polly is my fave. I like that this could have been a generic coming-of-age or women-in-war story, where the protagonist learns that she’s brave or worthwhile and then the crisis is past, but instead Polly learns that she’s a cunning bastard and a hell of a sergeant, and being a one-off hero in a country that’s at peace and making slow social progress isn’t good enough for her. That said, just because I’m better able to articulate what I like about Polly doesn’t mean I’d be less excited for fic about anyone else! I think that’s something I’d want to explore for any of the characters who enlist in the course of the story - what are these women good at? What lets them fulfill their potential? What do they want when their hand isn’t being forced? Or for Jackrum, who’s already gone through that whole process by the time the story begins, any more backstory would be fabulous.

If you’re going the Polly/Mal route, I also love ludicrous levels of sexual tension in a military context (I think it’s the unavoidable proximity + the presence of others making it hard to act on it).

Fandom: Simoun (Anime)

Characters: Any (Aaeru, Dominuura, Halconf, Mamiina, Neviril, Paraietta, Plumbish Priestesses, Rodoreamon)

Simoun somehow ended up being a really weirdly meaningful show to me. I loved how all these women got to be flawed and fucked-up, noble and loyal. How, in the mold of all my favorite epic shoujo anime, it starts off beautiful and fine and then Shit Gets Very Real and that’s actually one of the themes of the show - we had a little debate a few weeks ago on FFA as to whether or not Simoun was a military canon, and the fact that circumstances have remade a team of priestesses in fancy quarters and magic flying machines who are there to pray to God, put off their choice of sex, use their talents, maintain or claw their way into a social position, into a military force involved in a war - that’s an idea that the characters themselves struggle with in the show. (Neviril’s scene in the hearing is one of my favorites.) How everyone gets character development, in the sense of learning and changing, and even what seem like annoying mandatory straight subplots actually end up serving that thematic or character development, to say nothing of the more focal relationships between the leads (not just Neviril and Aeru, but also Mamiina and Rodoreamon, Neviril and Paraietta...)

I’d really like to read a fic where an individual character’s development or two characters’ relationship is similarly tied in to plot developments; it doesn’t have to be a plotty fic as such, but I was very interested in the way the developments of the war and the pilots/priestesses’ actions in it precipitated changes in their relationships. So how might Neviril and Aeru’s relationship develop in the other world (what are they doing?), or Mamiina and Rodoreamon’s on the Messis when they’re not the narrative focus before Mamiina’s last mission and the braid thing? (Or if this is more your speed, dig into that and see how a character grows or the relationship between characters develops when that’s not being moved along by outside events in the same way, especially if they’re aware of that being an issue. When Neviril and Aeru are outside the normal flow of time, or Paraietta and Rodoreamon are civilians, for example.) I’m also interested in all the permutations of loyalty we see in the show - like loyalty to a position over loyalty to a side (as with the Plumbish priestesses’ siding with our Sibyllae), loyalty that develops before liking or friendship, the devoted loyalty to Neviril. I like the show’s military themes despite its magical-girl visuals. I think this is also a canon where it would make sense for sexual first times to be part of a fic - what does that mean for the characters you choose?

I should also say that due to all the magic and timespace warping in the show, I am more than okay with post-canon fic that gets characters back together who were separated by canon, if that’s what you want. You can resurrect Mamiina, or have Neviril and Aeru visit the main reality/timeline again. Or play with timespace even more - time loop fic? (Edit: This didn’t even occur to me until I found out about the IF post, but this fandom might lend itself to interactive fiction, too.)

So Vil and some others would probably be suspicious when both Diasomnia and Octavinelle just left Pomefiore without “discussing” any more on who gets to take Baby!Yuu or even demanding to see him... Then Epel appears and tells them that Lilia just took Baby!Yuu from Vil’s bedroom and teleported away after Jade had kicked the door down, which the Pomefiore Dorm Leader would probably not be happy about... Both Ace and Deuce demand Epel on why the Pomefiore First-Year didn’t call them that Baby!Yuu was at his dorm and Epel responds by demanding why Baby!Yuu was even in his dorm in the first place when the two idiots were supposed to be the ones babysitting Baby!Yuu with Grim... Rook reveals to them that he was the one who brought Baby!Yuu back with him to Pomefiore after finding Baby!Yuu crawling around by himself in the Hall of Mirrors, leaving everyone to wonder on how Baby!Yuu got there from Ramshackle, especially when the Idiot Trio claims to still be in Ramshackle when Baby!Yuu had gone missing from there... For some reason I can imagine Riddle dragging both Ace and Deuce by their ears back to Heartslabyul with Trey following along with Cater who is still live-streaming onto his Magicam account...

The adventures of Baby!Yuu continues! 

Vil is definitely suspicious that Malleus went from upset and stubborn to relax and almost indifferent in a moment. Vil suspect the bat fluttering around him had something to do with it before he and his entourage left. 

And when Malleus and the others left, so did the Octavinelle trio but not without a warning from Azul to not stick his business in theirs. Because that’s just rude, no? Vil hated how his powder grey eyes glinted knowing and how wide his twins smirk. 

It all makes sense when Epel thundered down the dorm lounge to shout that Diasomnia’s Vice Dorm Leader took Baby!Yuu and that Jade broke down his bedroom door.

This just further upsets Vil. They dare to storm to his dorm, make a mess, frighten his dorm members and destroy his bedroom? He wants retribution for these insults! 

This is far from over! Epel has a very bad feeling when Vil order Rook to discuss some things with him in private. 

Adeuce + Grim immediately crowd around Epel so they could figure out how to sneaked Baby!Yuu out of Diasomnia. They can’t count on Sebek because everyone knows that apart from the first-year squad, Sebek’s clique is with the Dorm Leader and Vice Dorm Leader of Diasomnia and going up against Malleus is a no-no. 

But before they could sneak out of Pomefiore, Riddle and Trey and Cater haul Adeuce + Grim out of there. Leaving a bewildered Epel behind. They’ve done enough damage already! Riddle is going to insist to let the seafood trio handle Baby!Yuu now. It’ll be a mess if Heartslabyul throw itself between Octavinelle and Diasomnia now
