AI can Take a Mobile App to The Next Level
Mobile apps development companies are obtaining momentum. As mobile phones were first introduced, recall the Register apps and the Snake Game. That's where the mobile era began. Today, the world of smartphones has several million applications and each has a good rating. The installations of these applications show users the level of demand and dedication. AI is no longer an imagination for mobile apps, but part of the real world. Without the introduction of artificial intelligence software, you cannot imagine personalization, hyper-personalization or even basics such as inventory management and Supply Chain management.
How You Can Use AI in Mobile Apps?
You tend to make AI smart and intelligent when you include AI in your mobile apps. It reduces work and increases performance and efficiency. The main reasons why AI should be part of your mobile apps are given here.
Automative Repetitive Processes
Repeat processes can be automated via AI technology so that the mobile application can be efficient. For example, Google Maps are known to help you reach the fastest route when calling for directions. All Uber rides are also designed to assist you in arriving soon. The built-in AI algorithm helps with this automation and speed up performance. This algorithm draws on a knowledge of the journeys, the routes and the detailed analysis of the past.
Enable Recommendations within Mobile Apps
Based on your past opinions, Netflix tends to suggest the best comedies. It also provides a general result based on your views from the past. Such past views and the subjects included by this class allow the machines to build a customized recommendation list. This is only one recommendation that Netflix uses. When defining your mobile app, you can make more of those recommendations.
Translation
You need machines to be quick when it becomes to translation. You should know what you are trying to communicate and translate accordingly. The AI enables machines to real-time translations of any language into another, boosting the machine's power and translation. Such devices can in reality also be produced for offline translation. How's that functioning? It is the same as an automatic translator. Machines use their intelligence and element algorithm based on the study of interpreters and their jobs to take over the actual work of the interpreter.
Advanced Search Abilities
Mobile applications have search engines at the heart. You want to ensure that the mobile app is strictly linked to the search engine, as well as to ensure excellent search capabilities in the mobile application. This ensures that the user can use a mobile app to find the things he needs. For AI, the design of mobile apps will easily integrate voice and vision into the mobile app, thus increasing the wealth of the tests. Localized search can also contribute to the increase in mobile solution conversion rates.
Know More - The importance and role of artificial intelligence in app development
Security
Security is a concern for the users of the mobile app, so AI contributes to the application's security and enhances transactions. The ability to know the mobile app only when biometrics are flawless can be unlocked. The ability to hack into the mobile app is growing. This is a result of the in-depth learning of AI. For AI, your apps are alert and, once someone hacks your account, you can receive a message without understanding it. They are not enabled, and the action will be reported to you to keep your account safe and information protected.
Advantages of AI in Mobile Apps
1. In developing a mobile app solution, you also make the value of the software. The same is true for AI-combined mobile app solutions. You don't know how this will help you. The benefits of using AI for your mobile app solution have been discussed here.
2. The first advantage of an AI-based mobile app solution is personalization. Before making a suggestion or solution for your clients, you will understand how they use the mobile app and its specific needs. The benefit of AI engineering is to limit time spent evaluating all this and providing the best solution for you.
3. The ultimate goal of each mobile app developer is to best user expectations. Only if you create mobile App solutions that meet the requirements of the user can you enrich the experience and improve the Mobile App Solution. With AI, you can integrate solutions that the user wants and offer solutions that are in keeping with the problems facing the user of the mobile app. The information the designers will obtain helps to design the algorithm to enhance user experience and enrich the solution.
4. AI can offer solutions that the customer needs, as it gets from the users, and help to strengthen the commitment. They understand the needs of the consumer and can apply them to your definition and the answer at last. This also helps to improve the mobile app's overall look and feel. Nonetheless, the development and coding of the mobile app solution help to understand the target market and analyze data.
Conclusion
Artificial intelligence is the gateway to intelligent, autonomous, and user-enhancing mobile app solutions. They help to automate solutions, develop recommendations and think solutions that can build on your validated idea. To improve your mobile app solution for end-users, you have to prepare the solution with the proper integration of AI. Before planning and strategizing, take into account all user wishes and needs. How Your Business Does Going To Respond For A New Comer, IoT?
Business is about using time and money with a suitable system to have the organization below your control. This statement leads out the advantages. Several aspects must be happened to keep the way with this statement. This may depend on employee effectiveness, data shaping, tracking management, your performance with your employees and several others. But when it grows to management, a certain feature, particularly the records of your business, needs to be correctly prepared to increase your business.
The perspectives I discussed above are important for each company. So you can regulate the use of the method that suits the business. And according to the trendy method of technology, the Internet of Things is becoming more and more to create the best time for a time. It is used to control the electronic device using the Internet. The electronic device can be anything, such as industrial machinery, electrical appliances, etc. Controlling these systems can improve the efficiency of your company's financial situation. Let's be brief about the main advantages of the Internet of Things for an organization in terms of commerce.
See More - Enterprises benefit from IoT via mobile app development
1. Operating Expenditure
Most industries allowed a huge virtual loss related to the machine operating process. Due to the neglect of the employee, heads to the loss of the machine. It is estimated a dangerous defect for industries. To replicate this defect, joining the system with the IoT avoids the problems generated by careless employees. Upgrading the system with the Internet of Things will minimize the time required for maintenance and help compactly control the device. It will, therefore, be more beneficial to monitor devices and minimize failures or misalignments on the production line. Implementing the Internet of Things (IoT) in an industry also helps decrease energy costs and improve energy efficiency by monitoring and controlling the unnecessary use of power systems.
2. Tracking the Management
IoT helps track management data. It works quickly when records have been collected in cloud technology. Cloud technology is increasing rapidly in all areas. It uses a network to change the server to store the data. Combining the cloud to the corporate server to keep it very than hard storage will save time and money in using the data for performance. This will be more efficient when conducted with IoT because IoT is a part of intelligence to analyze data when it is created with artificial intelligence, where artificial intelligence will be further useful for organizing data. In one reason and understand the problem. The solution to achieve a better result for the decision of the management concerning the task or the process.

3. Customer Experience
When IoT is placed or connected for things, usage increases within mobile devices, which will increase the power of marketing by understanding the model of your movement utilizing your mobile. As I said before about artificial intelligence connected with IoT, it is beneficial to analyze the behavior of your use. For example, if your home is dominated by IoT, the behavior of your mobile movement is tracked and analyzed, which later enables you to view or align the company's advertising, such as e-commerce, on your device. Thus, it can increase the productivity of advertising by allowing the customer to know his needs.
4. Improve Productivity
Improving the productivity of the business is essential to increase profits. In terms of the Internet of Things, the industry can make a profit by following the availability of components. It is too important to note that the availability of components has a significant influence on productivity when it is required for the function or mechanism. IoT asks you to calculate making hours to plan employees' work by collecting employee data. This increases the function of the job by suggesting that the continuing tasks are notified by the employee. Thus, it can decrease interest and access features more accurately.
5. Ensure Safety
Handling equipment with greater care is important for all sectors. By using IoT, he will be more positive in handling the equipment. The IoT with artificial intelligence creates a pattern to follow the movement of the machine. Thus, when the machine becomes the work position for the process, an error is reported by the manager and leads to securing awareness of the maintenance of security against the incident. Every life is important to reach its goal. Thus, workers' lives are more important than work. Therefore, as a businessman, it is important to secure the safety of their employees. The IoT will improve the industry to avoid an incident thanks to artificial intelligence.

A Guide to the Best iOS Development Tools for iOS Developers
If you’re an iOS developer and you’re looking to take your skills to the next level, you need great tools to help you do so quickly and efficiently. Fortunately, this modern age has plenty of tools at your disposal that can make your work easier and more pleasant than ever before. The best iOS development tools include everything from IDEs to compilers, as well as other pieces of hardware and software to streamline every step of the development process from start to finish. Here are some of the best tools available, along with some tips on how best to use them.
Xcode
The first and most important tool of any iOS developer is Xcode, Apple’s integrated development environment (IDE). By writing your code in Xcode, you have access to a host of debugging tools that make it easier than ever before to find bugs. You can also organize your code with folders and subfolders using Xcode’s interface. Finally, by utilizing various libraries written by other developers, you can easily add functionality into your app without needing outside help.
Appcelerator
An open-source mobile development platform that allows developers to quickly create, deploy and manage apps across multiple platforms (including iOS, Android and Windows). It combines coding, testing and debugging with a visual environment in which developers can build native applications. Furthermore, it provides back-end integration with enterprise data sources. Top features include: JavaScript support; device monitoring and real-time code editing; admin control of code access; REST API support. And more.
Perfecto Mobile
Web & Native Testing Automation Tool : While developers are testing their code, they also have a lot of issues during development with mobile devices and platforms. Perfecto is an automated testing platform that eliminates manual testing on physical, virtual, and cloud-based devices. Perfecto is integrated into team development environments through plugins or extensions (Ruby gems), and it’s also available as a standalone web application.
Centercode
This is one of my favorite tools because it lets you do live code sharing and collaboration. One of my best friends is in Uganda right now, and I’m helping him build an app—Centercode makes it easy to share code files, invite other developers on Slack or Google+ so they can see your progress, and keep your whole team up-to-date.
DeviceAnywhere
Real-time Device Monitoring and Remote Support. An iPhone developer's toolbox is simply incomplete without an iPhone monitoring tool. And that’s where DeviceAnywhere steps in. It enables real-time, remote access to your iPhone/iPad devices, making it easier for you as a developer to detect bugs, test features and troubleshoot apps on real devices from your Mac or PC. The best part? You don’t even need a jailbroken device!
Testfairy
It is an application performance monitoring tool. It provides real-time data on mobile applications, allowing developers and QA professionals to perform detailed analysis of end user experience. Some of its features include tracking network traffic, recording and analyzing crashes and memory leaks, running your own performance tests and getting insights from speed test reports generated by Google, Amazon and Apple.
Crittercism
a mobile application performance management platform that enables enterprises and developers to monitor and troubleshoot issues occurring within their applications. The company, founded in 2010, is based in San Francisco, California. Crittercism powers billions of events daily, including issues such as crashes, exceptions, security violations and third-party SDK issues.

WhatsApp will finally let users encrypt their chat backups in the cloud
WhatsApp said on Friday it will give its two billion users the option to encrypt their chat backups to the cloud, taking a significant step to put a lid on one of the tricky ways private communication between individuals on the app can be compromised.
The Facebook-owned service has end-to-end encrypted chats between users for more than a decade. But users have had no option but to store their chat backup to their cloud — iCloud on iPhones and Google Drive on Android — in an unencrypted format.
Tapping these unencrypted WhatsApp chat backups on Google and Apple servers is one of the widely known ways law enforcement agencies across the globe have for years been able to access WhatsApp chats of suspect individuals.
UK offers cash for CSAM detection tech targeted at E2E encryption
Now WhatsApp says it is patching this weak link in the system.
“WhatsApp is the first global messaging service at this scale to offer end-to-end encrypted messaging and backups, and getting there was a really hard technical challenge that required an entirely new framework for key storage and cloud storage across operating systems,” said Facebook’s chief executive Mark Zuckerberg in a post announcing the new feature.
Store your own encryption keys
The company said it has devised a system to enable WhatsApp users on Android and iOS to lock their chat backups with encryption keys. WhatsApp says it will offer users two ways to encrypt their cloud backups, and the feature is optional.
In the “coming weeks,” users on WhatsApp will see an option to generate a 64-digit encryption key to lock their chat backups in the cloud. Users can store the encryption key offline or in a password manager of their choice, or they can create a password that backs up their encryption key in a cloud-based “backup key vault” that WhatsApp has developed. The cloud-stored encryption key can’t be used without the user’s password, which isn’t known by WhatsApp.
“We know that some will prefer the 64-digit encryption key whereas others want something they can easily remember, so we will be including both options. Once a user sets their backup password, it is not known to us. They can reset it on their original device if they forget it,” WhatsApp said.
“For the 64-digit key, we will notify users multiple times when they sign up for end-to-end encrypted backups that if they lose their 64-digit key, we will not be able to restore their backup and that they should write it down. Before the setup is complete, we’ll ask users to affirm that they’ve saved their password or 64-digit encryption key.”
A WhatsApp spokesperson told TechCrunch that once an encrypted backup is created, previous copies of the backup will be deleted. “This will happen automatically and there is no action that a user will need to take,” the spokesperson added.
Potential regulatory pushback?
The move to introduce this added layer of privacy is significant and one that could have far-reaching implications.
End-to-end encryption remains a thorny topic of discussion as governments continue to lobby for backdoors. Apple was reportedly pressured to not add encryption to iCloud Backups after the FBI complained, and while Google has offered users the ability to encrypt their data stored in Google Drive, the company allegedly didn’t tell governments before it rolled out the feature.
When asked by TechCrunch whether WhatsApp, or its parent firm Facebook, had consulted with government bodies — or if it had received their support — during the development process of this feature, the company declined to discuss any such conversations.
“People’s messages are deeply personal and as we live more of our lives online, we believe companies should enhance the security they provide their users. By releasing this feature, we are providing our users with the option to add this additional layer of security for their backups if they’d like to, and we’re excited to give our users a meaningful advancement in the safety of their personal messages,” the company told TechCrunch.
WhatsApp also confirmed that it will be rolling out this optional feature in every market where its app is operational. It’s not uncommon for companies to withhold privacy features for legal and regulatory reasons. Apple’s upcoming encrypted browsing feature, for instance, won’t be made available to users in certain authoritarian regimes, such as China, Belarus, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, Uganda, and the Philippines.
At any rate, Friday’s announcement comes days after ProPublica reported that private end-to-end encrypted conversations between two users can be read by human contractors when messages are reported by users.
“Making backups fully encrypted is really hard and it’s particularly hard to make it reliable and simple enough for people to use. No other messaging service at this scale has done this and provided this level of security for people’s messages,” Uzma Barlaskar, product lead for privacy at WhatsApp, told TechCrunch.
“We’ve been working on this problem for many years, and to build this, we had to develop an entirely new framework for key storage and cloud storage that can be used across the world’s largest operating systems and that took time.”

List Of Top Bike Taxi Apps In The World
In recent times, people started opting for ride-sharing via taxi booking app for their daily commute as it is highly comfortable compared to public transports. It has become a trend and gaining popularity in congested cities. To make the ride more convenient during high traffic and affordable service, private taxi companies started introducing bike taxis which is becoming a leading service when compared to normal taxi services.
Already existing popular taxi booking app companies in the world like Uber, Ola started providing an additional option like bike-taxi service along with their taxi service, and some standalone bike taxi startups are also emerging with their on-demand bike taxi apps to grab more customers for this new taxi business model.
What is the on-demand bike taxi app?
Bike taxi is very similar to popular taxi -apps like Uber, Ola. Instead of booking a taxi, you need to book a bike via a ride-sharing app of the bike taxi service provider. The near-by bike rider will receive your request and will pick up the customer from the pick point and provide a helmet during the ride. Once the ride is completed the payment is deducted online. Even a solo ride is introduced in this type of bike taxi service where there will be no rider to drop you at your destination.
The service providers may have their own fleet of bikes or drivers with the registered bike and driving licenses can register with the service provider and share their bike to earn the commission through this business model.
Let us have a look at the list of top bike taxi apps.

Ada Health has developed the app, which combines a medical database with intelligent reasoning technology to help users understand what might be causing their symptoms.
The free app then provides patients with guidance about what steps they should take, helping them make informed decisions about their health, while complementing and supporting existing healthcare services.
Berlin-based Ada Health said that it had developed the app to address the lack of access to basic health services in the area of Africa where Swahili is commonly spoken.
This includes several countries, among them Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique and Somalia, where Ada hops that the app will particularly improve health information and advice for young people and their families.
The Swahili version of the app, which is available on both iOS and Android, has been developed in partnership with Fondation Botnar, a Swiss foundation focused on improving health and wellbeing of young people in low- and middle-income countries through technology.
The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania was the other development partner.
Ada said it had worked with local partners, clinicians, and healthcare organisations to overcome several unique challenges.
For instance, doctors are trained and taught in English in East Africa, and many medical and anatomical terms do not have direct translations in Swahili.
For many medical terms, words are simply transposed into Swahili when translated from English: an i is put at the end; c’s are switched into k’s, but the word is not fully translated.
For example, the translation for inflammation is inflamesheni, but people that don’t speak English wouldn’t necessarily use that term or know what it means. In order to address this, Ada includes an explanation for the meaning of inflamesheni in Swahili in brackets.
Not all diseases have Swahili names – particularly rare diseases. For these, the English name is used in the app, and a detailed Swahili description is provided when the user clicks on it.
Ada also optimised 160 disease models to ensure that the app could factor in conditions and symptoms that are more common in Tanzania and East Africa than other parts of the world.
This included many maternal and child health issues, chronic heart and mental health-related conditions and infectious diseases like malaria, HIV and diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis.
Ada is now laying the groundwork to integrate the app into the health system, and researching which individuals can benefit from Ada, and inform future enhancement and adaptations.
Through its collaboration with Fondation Botnar, Ada is also launching its health app in Romanian.
The Romanian version of Ada includes 20 disease models adapted for the region and was created in collaboration with local doctors.

Google’s lightweight search app, Google Go, launches to Android users worldwide
Google Go, a lightweight version of Google’s search app, is today becoming available to all Android users worldwide. First launched in 2017 after months of beta testing, the app had been designed primarily for use in emerging markets where people are often accessing the internet for the first time on unstable connections by way of low-end Android devices.
Like many of the “Lite” versions of apps built for emerging markets, Google Go takes up less space on phones — now at just over 7MB — and it includes offline features to aid those with slow and intermittent internet connections. The app’s search results are optimized to save up to 40% data, Google also claims.
Beyond web search, Google Go includes other discovery features, as well — like the ability to tap through trending topics, voice search, image and GIF search, an easy way to switch between languages, and the ability to have web pages read aloud, powered by A.I.
At Google’s I/O developer conference this spring, the company announced it was also bringing Lens to Google Go.
Lens allows users to point their smartphone camera at real-world objects in order to bring up relevant information. In Google Go, the Lens feature will help users who struggle to read. When the camera is pointed at text — like a bus schedule, sign or bank form, for example — Lens can read the text out loud, highlighting the words as they’re spoken. Users can also tap on a particular word to learn its definition or have the text translated.
While Lens was only a 100KB addition, according to Google, the updates to the Go app since launch have increased its size. Initially, it was a 5MB app and now it’s a little more than 7MB.
Previously, Google Go was only available in a few countries on Android Go edition devices. According to data from Sensor Tower, it has been installed approximately 17.5 million times globally, with the largest percentage of users in India (48%). Its next largest markets are Indonesia (16%), Brazil (14%), Nigeria (6%), and South Africa (4%), Sensor Tower says.
In total, it has been available to 29 countries on Android Go edition devices, including also: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Google says the app now has “millions” of users.
Today, Google says it will be available to all users worldwide on the Play Store.
Google says it decided to launch the app globally, including in markets where bandwidth is not a concern, because it understands that everyone at times can struggle with problems like limited phone storage or spotty connections.
Plus, it’s a lightweight app for reading and translating text. At Google I/O, the company had noted there are over 800 million adults worldwide who struggle to read — and, of course, not all are located in emerging markets.
Google Go is one of many lightweight apps Google has built for emerging markets, along with YouTube Go, Files Go, Gmail Go, Google Maps Go, Gallery Go, and Google Assistant Go, for example.
The Google Go app will be available on the Play Store to global users running Android Lollipop or higher.

Placing real-time data in the hands of frontline forest guardians.
Say hello to Forest Watcher.
Camellia Williams, Lead Writer.
Detection.
In the forests of the Leuser Ecosystem, where elephants, tigers, rhinos and orangutans live together side by side, wildlife protection teams supported by HAkA patrol by day and sleep in tents by night. These dedicated rangers are on the frontline protecting the Leuser Ecosystem from illegal logging and poaching. But, with more than 2.6 million hectares of ground to cover, these rangers are turning to technology that supports their monitoring efforts by alerting them to recent forest loss.
We’ve been working with World Resources Institute, the Jane Goodall Institute and other Global Forest Watch partners to build a mobile application that gives power to the people on the frontline of forest protection. People like HAkA’s rangers. Forest Watcher is designed for investigating and reporting deforestation: it delivers real-time deforestation alerts, fire alerts, and annual tree cover loss data, even when internet connectivity is poor or non-existent.
Forest Watcher was first developed by the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI), Google, Touch Lab and Global Forest Watch to give forest rangers and local communities access to up-to-date satellite data for forest monitoring offline. This provided a great opportunity to inform patrols as not everyone has access to the internet—especially when they are deep inside a vast, thick rainforest. However, with new forest loss satellite products such as weekly GLAD and fire alerts, the app needed an update. To address this, we’ve built a new version that builds on the lessons learnt from the first version and continues to provide offline access to the latest forest data.

User testing in the Republic of Congo. Credit: Jessica Webb, WRI.
Available for both Android and iOS operating systems, Forest Watcher extends the power of Global Forest Watch, which brings together satellite technology, open data and human networks. Anyone with an internet connection can access Global Forest Watch and find out when, where and how forests are changing. Forest Watcher puts that information directly into the hands of the people who don’t have reliable access to the internet.
When we began developing Forest Watcher, we had the opportunity to talk to local communities, rangers and conservation practitioners from all over the world, including the original users in Uganda, to find out what their needs and priorities are. They told us they wanted to see alerts for only the areas they cared about most, and have offline access to them. Their priorities included offline navigation; standardised data collection protocols, and the ability to sync reports with their base or head office.
As we learned more about their lives, we gained a new appreciation for the challenges they face and how they could be overcome with assistance from technology. For example, forest patrol teams—like those in the Leuser Ecosystem—have a lot of ground to cover and an alert from Forest Watcher helps them plan their routes and prioritise their resources.
Getting started with Forest Watcher is simple. Just download the app, set up an area of interest and wait for the alerts to arrive.

Verification.
When HAkA’s rangers receive an alert, they’ll be able to save the details offline and use Forest Watcher to navigate to the place where forest loss has been detected. Once there, they can save photos and notes to their mobile using a simple reporting form. If it’s not safe to complete the form there and then, it can be done later just by selecting the area on a map.
Life can be dangerous for the people who protect forests. With this in mind, we made speed and accuracy two of the defining features of the Forest Watcher reporting form. One touch of the pink pixel that alerts rangers to potential forest loss opens up a reporting form, and it can be completed in a matter of moments. The first step is to take a photo before answering a few simple questions and adding a note if needed. If forest change is spotted that hasn’t already been detected by Global Forest Watch, it too can be reported with ease.
Field tests with the Kogi indigenous people living in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia, demonstrated that Forest Watcher can also accurately detect forest fires. As their patrol team travelled along a coastal highway, they passed several recently burnt areas that had been detected by Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRs) data, and completed the report to verify what damage had occurred.
As requested by the people we interviewed, Forest Watcher uses a standardised data collection protocol but team leaders can customise the reporting form using Forest Watcher Desktop. Every time HAkA’s rangers or the Kogi go on patrol, they’ll be using the same form as the rest of their team, and their reports will sync to their base the moment their mobiles connect to the internet. To keep everything confidential, the team manager is the only person who can see all the reports.
Reports are standardised and easy to complete.
Collaboration.
Back at their headquarters, HAkA will be able to use the information they’ve collected to evaluate their conservation efforts and strengthen law enforcement efforts. Since the Forest Watcher reporting protocol is standardised, they’ve also spotted an opportunity to coordinate with other conservation groups and law-enforcement agencies.
With Forest Watcher in their hands, communities, forest guardians, and enforcement agencies have access to the knowledge they need to stop deforestation and hold those responsible to account. Forest Watcher offers an opportunity to increase the capacity and motivation of people who protect ecologically important places, and create a lasting positive impact.
We’re excited that we’ve had this opportunity to build a solution that has such an important role in the protection and conservation of our planet’s forests. Forest Watcher has been made to fit into the lives of those who will use it, and this makes the Global Forest Watch data even more powerful. We can’t wait to hear more stories from the frontline.
Download the Forest Watcher app for free through the Apple App Store or Google PlayStore.

Fintech startup Flutterwave has partnered with Visa to launch a consumer payment product for Africa called GetBarter.
The app based offering is aimed at facilitating personal and small merchant payments within countries and across Africa’s national borders. Existing Visa card holders can send and receive funds at home or internationally on GetBarter.
The product also lets non card-holders (those with accounts or mobile wallets on other platforms) create a virtual Visa card to link to the app. A Visa spokesperson confirmed the product partnership.
GetBarter allows Flutterwave—which has scaled as a payment gateway for big companies through its Rave product—to pivot to African consumers and traders.
“Rave is B2B, this is more B2B2C since we’re reaching the consumers of our customers,” Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola—aka GB—told TechCrunch.
The app also creates a network for clients on multiple financial platforms, such as Kenyan mobile money service M-Pesa, to make transfers across payment products, national borders, and to shop online.
“The target market is pretty much everyone who has a payment need in Africa. That includes the entire customer base of M-Pesa, the entire bank customer base in Nigeria, mobile money and bank customers in Ghana—pretty much the entire continent,” Agboola said.
Flutterwave and Visa will focus on building a GetBarter user base across mobile money and bank clients in Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa, with plans to grow across the continent and reach those off the financial grid.
“In phase one we’ll pursue those who are banked. In phase-two we’ll continue toward those who are unbanked who will be able to use agents to work with GetBarter,” Agboola said.
Flutterwave and Visa will generate revenue through fees from financial institutions on cards created and on fees per transaction. A GetBarter charge for a payment in Nigeria is roughly 40 Naira, or 11 cents, according to Agboola.
With this week’s launch users can download the app for Apple and Android devices and for use on WhatsApp and USSD.
Founded in 2016, Flutterwave has positioned itself as a global B2B payments solutions platform for companies in Africa to pay other companies on the continent and abroad. It allows clients to tap its APIs and work with Flutterwave developers to customize payments applications. Existing customers include Uber, Facebook, Booking.com, and African e-commerce unicorn Jumia.com.
Flutterwave has processed 100 million transactions worth $2.6 billion since inception, according to company data.
The company has raised $20 million from investors including Greycroft, Green Visor Capital, Mastercard, and Visa.
In 2018, Flutterwave was one of several African fintech companies to announce significant VC investment and cross-border expansion—see Paga, Yoco, Cellulant, Mines.ie, and Jumo.
Flutterwave added operations in Uganda in June and raised a $10 million Series A round in October that saw former Visa CEO Joe Saunders join its board of directors.
The company also plugged into ledger activity in 2018, becoming a payment processing partner to the Ripple and Stellar blockchain networks.
Flutterwave hasn’t yet released revenue or profitability info, according to CEO Olugbenga Agboola.
Headquartered in San Francisco, with its largest operations center in Nigeria, the startup plans to add operations centers to South Africa and Cameroon, which will also become new markets for GetBarter.
