My Wild Horse Story

I wanted to write a post about one of the most special horses I’ve ever had come through my life. I’ve worked with hundreds of horses, but my life would not be what it is had this specific mustang not been a part of it.

Meet Oliver.

I forget what HMA Oliver originated from but he was started in a women’s correctional facility in Wy. Oliver had a good start in life and was eventually sold to a wonderful family owned guest ranch/outfitter.

At some point Oliver changed- he became the horse no one wanted to work with. He bucked off some of the best riders who came through that ranch.

I had a series of extremely hard events happen in my life in 2018. I couldn’t face my current life so I decided to disappear to Wy for a time and happened to begin working for this same ranch in 2019.

I worked with some other horses, and listened to everyone talk about the black-listed Oliver. Even one of the other riders, who I truly admired for her skill, was vocally nervous about getting on Oliver. This is someone who would gallop across the 700acre property bareback, jumping anything in sight. I don’t even have the balls to do that.

Well, we were short-mounted one day so I was left with a choice between Oliver and an older gelding. I chose Oliver, and I’m sure glad I did.

There are no words to really describe how this horse healed me. He holds such a special place in my heart, akin to my first horse but so wildly different.

Now this is starting to sound like a fairy tale, huh? Well let’s get something straight- he was an absolute a** when I first started working with him. But I persisted. We spent a lot of hours in the arena just goofing off. Eventually, we built enough of a report for light trail rides outside, which led to days worth of adventures into the wilderness completely alone. We saw the world together. We watched deer, birds, antelope, rabbits, a bobcat and even a couple bears together. This dude had a heart of courage and our adventures together were limitless. Nothing phased him. He reminded me of a time in my youth when nothing mattered and I felt invincible. I felt my fire for life slowly returning and my deep wounds slowly healing.

Eventually, we started with leading out guest trail rides. He loved it. Then we began leading pack-strings in preparation for the hunting season. He loved that. Soon enough, we were leading all the hunters, guides and packhorses through 15mi worth of certified wilderness to go to and from camp. He was a star. Everyone was floored by who this horse had become. I didn’t feel the same way because I simply felt like he was the same Oliver I had to spend a century trying to catch that first day.

Towards the end of hunting season (right around Oct.) things were starting to get very cold and the weather unpredictable. We were headed back from hunting camp, getting close to the ranch, a horrible thunder and hail storm took over earlier than expected. We were leading the pack at this time. We all had to dismount because the lightning was striking so close and quite a few of the horses were shod. It was terrifying. The hail was so strong it would leave marks on your skin, and you couldn’t see a few feet in front of you. We had a long meadow stretch to get through. I was leading three packhorses and Oliver was next to me. He understood his job in that moment and powered forward. He allowed me to shield my face next to his neck and kept me warm as we slowly made it through this wretched storm. It was physically draining and scary. But I had my best friend by my side and a silent assurance from him that he would take care of me and get us home. I trusted him, and at the time it felt like with my life. At that time, we had absolutely leading me.

We made it home.

No damage was apparent until our next pack trip, when I urged Oliver to the front of the line to lead and he stopped completely and refused. He lost all of his confidence in leading, which was his favorite thing a week prior. This broke my heart. It was a slow process but he eventually gained back his courage to lead. It was almost like he rebuilt my courage so that I could help him regain his when the time came.

A month later it was time for me to pack up and leave. I helped haul the horses to their wintering paddock and personally turned Oliver out. I gave him one big hug goodbye and that was the last time I saw that wonderful horse. I have stayed in touch with the owners and have received glowing updates about what a good boy he has been since. But I’ll tell you what, I miss the crap outta that animal.

He wasn’t the prettiest horse on the planet, he had a horrible trot and he was always a difficult catch, but boy do I love that guy. Even now as I write this, I tear up thinking about him and how much he changed me.

I know this was a long post, but I just wanted to share about a mustang that truly changed my life.

So what happened at the end of the T2 summery?

Who is this?

At the end of “Report on the end of Second Trial”, there is a possibly unknown character or a Jackalope. He’s voiced by Fukuyama Jun so your lead to believe that it’s our Jackalope. 

I believe that this is either our Jackalope or a completely new character, possibly some sort of boss. The version of Jackalope we see in this scene is speaking with a calmer and less comical tone. He normally uses 俺様 (ore sama) as his personal pronoun, but at the end of the T2 review, he uses 私 (watashi), which is more of a feminine/neutral pronoun. He also doesn't talk exactly like Jackalope.

The ending is definitely directed at us through. 

At the very end of the video, there’s what looks like a silhouette of a person that gets closer to the screen. I doubt that he's going to reveal himself at the beginning of the text trial. Maybe halfway through or towards the end.

The Role of Jackalopes in MILGRAM

Jackalopes guide the guard, Es, and make sure that trial go smoothly. They also make sure that Es isn’t getting too close to the prisoners. 

Each Es has their own Jackalope; Sumi had a girl (Jacka), Touchi had a guy and our Es also has a guy. 

Jackalopes may be the ones who decide who will be the next Es.

Jackalopes can also have their own free will and personalities. The one from the first novel tries to manipulate everyone and the one in the second novel hates his job.

Jackalopes also have a human form.

But who exactly is our Jackalope?

Jackalope is something that is being controlled by someone else

Jackalope has mentioned that “I guess that’s how it is in your era” when talking Yuno’s murder and “it was quite brilliant to choose our era”. So it’s clear he’s not originally from our era and is likely from the past as he has a negative view of abortion. 

It can’t be the boss jackalope or Torch from the novel as they use different pronouns. 

Jackalopes in Folklore

In folklore, they are aggressive and defensive. Jackalopes are said to be so dangerous that hunters are advised to wear stovepipes keep their legs from being gored. One of the ways to catch a jackalope is to entice it with whiskey. Jackalopes can imitate the human voice and often sound like a tenor, which our Jackalope is.

The Origin of the Modern Jackalope

Jackalopes originate from North American, specifically Wyoming, and are described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns. Rabbits have been depicted with horns as far back as the 13th century, but the first modern jackalope was created in 1932 by Douglas Herrick and his brother. Herrick had the idea to combine a jackrabbit and antelope horns after his brothers returned from a hunting trip for jackrabbits. Herrick tossed one of the carcasses into his taxidermy store next to a pair of antelope horns which sparked the idea to combine the 2.

Tsimh did not quite understand why she hadn't been allowed in her mother's tent that evening, which the toddler protested loudly to no avail. Aunties tried to keep her preoccupied, but unfamiliar the sounds and smells were too alluring to ignore. Tsimh had always been more curious than most.

When they finally let her inside, she scrambled over to Adleh's bed - a mush of soft furs, feathers, and leather - eager for a cuddle. And then froze, because Tsimh's mother was holding something altogether new.

Swaddled in a downy blanket, a black-haired newborn slept soundly.

"Meet your new brother, Tsimh." Adleh purred, stroking a wild bit of blue hair behind her daughter's ear.

Head bobbing, Tsimh reached out a stubby hand to paw at him, retreating it quickly when the baby shifted.

"It's alright." Adleh soothed, laughing a little and lifting him up to be in easier reach.

Glancing at her mother, then once more to the baby, Tsimh scooched forward carefully and sniffed, tail twitching. Their noses touched, and she pulled back again, grinning. She liked him, she decided.

"Have you got enough food?" She asked, lifting the flap on his bag to confirm for herself.

"Enough for a week, and I can supplement with hunting." Nahte assured her, peeking over the saddle of his chocobo as he checked the stirrups.

"It's different out there. You won't have the woods to hide you." Tsimh's tail lashed. "What if Gridanians catch you at the border?"

"I'll talk to them. Or I'll run. They can barely see in the dark, anyway."

That wasn't a satisfactory answer. She frowned sharply at him.

Nahte was sixteen summers now, and though wanderlust had claimed him before, as was expected of their men, he'd never tried to leave the Shroud.

"I'll be alright, Tsimh." He purred, mismatched blue eyes soft with the reassurance of it. "You taught me well. I'll bring you all back something nice, make the Vhias the envy of the other clans." A grin. "And when I return, you can introduce me to my new niece. Or nephew."

She put a hand to her belly, only recently beginning to show. "I'd rather you just bring us back boar skins and antelope."

"You've got Okkh'a for that." Nahte answered, retrieving his bag.

She held it from him a moment longer, frowning. "I'm going to miss you."

And for a bare few seconds, the hurt in his chest showed. It was no easy goodbye. "I'll miss you, too. But I'll be thinking of you, every night." He embraced her, pressing their noses together, and she tried very hard not to cry.

But Tsimh had known for a long time that the Shroud would never be big enough for her little brother. She could only pray Menphina guide his steps wherever they wandered, and take solace knowing that even if she couldn't watch over him, he would never be beyond the sight of the moon.

SAFARI GAME DRIVES EXPERIENCE WITH TRION SAFARIS

Driving through the Savannah Parks in the safari a vehicles is known as Game-drive.

Game drives are one of the highlights of any Uganda safari and are most rewarding in the early mornings and late evenings of the day. So a game drive basically means driving with a safari vehicle in national parks and wildlife reserves searching for the big game. Morning game drives start at 7am and evening game drives start at 4pm alongside a Tour guide or an armed park Ranger  to accompany you into wildlife viewing of the tree climbing lions, the warthogs, elephants, giraffes, buffalo herds, ostriches, hyenas, zebras and birds.

Day 1: Nairobi / Amboseli

Pick up from your Nairobi hotel or Airport in the morning and drive to Amboseli National Park which is famous for it��s scenery with a backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, which dominates the landscape, and open plains. Arriving in for Lunch and afternoon game drive. Proceeds to the area of Lake Amboseli, which is a wide salt pan, consisting of permanent swamps. This area has much game, large and small, high concentration of Elephant, rhino, buffalo, Burchell’s zebra, eland, Masai giraffe and small species of the antelope family, the common water buck, klipspringer, Grant’s gazelle, impala, topi, and many other wild game. Return back to the camp or Lodge for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 2: Amboseli Lake Nakuru

Early breakfast at your camp or lodge, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park to arriving at your lodge in time for lunch. Enjoy some sumptuous lunch and relax before the afternoon game drive, we are likely to see a variety of birds which includes the Egyptian goose and a variety of ducks that come from Europe to winter. Since there is no existing drainage, Lake Nakuru is alkaline, the perfect place for flamingos to feed on the blue-green algae. The greater flamingo attains a height of about 4.26 feet its plumage is almost white with a pale pink, black tipped beak. It is the lesser flamingo that has the more exotic color. Different types of wildlife including the white Rhino and black rhino, cheetah, lion, leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and other members of the Big five. All Meals and overnight at Lake Nakuru lodge / similar.

Day 3: Lake Nakuru / Masai mara

Enjoy an early morning breakfast at your lodge then depart for the Masai Mara Game Reserve arriving in time for lunch and afternoon game drive. Masai Mara offers wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where a visitor may see animals in the same super abundance as existed a century ago. Explore this part of the Northern Serengeti Ecosystem where the great wildebeest migration takes place. The plain is literally covered with these animals. Grunts and other animal sounds are heard, and territorial fights are commonplace. The migration, now declared the Seventh Wonder of the World takes place from end July to September. Soak in the abundance of untamed wilderness, fresh and natural scenery, filled with exotic wildlife during our expertly guided game drives enjoyed in open vehicles. Renowned for its magnificent Big Cat population that hunt the wildebeest, zebra and other plains game that dominate the Mara, it has even been nicknamed the "Kingdom of the Lions". Finding a pride of lions (there are some 400 lions resident in the reserve and neighboring conservancies) is normally relatively easy – and high on most visitors’ must-see lists. Leopards are also seen increasingly often, and good sightings of cheetahs can be expected. Other predators regular seen throughout the reserve and conservancies include fascinating spotted hyenas (rarely bothered by human observers and compelling in their social interactions) black-backed and side-striped jackals, and cute pairs of bat-eared foxes. With luck, you may also see a Serval – a lanky, striped and spotted cat of tall grass and bush, adept at catching small mammals and birds. The most rear predator of the Maasai Mara, the wild dog, is a beautiful, nomadic pack animal. At one time almost extinct in the region, one or two packs (and what appear to be smaller scouting parties of two or three individuals) are being seen in many areas, though still not on a regular basis. Return to the Lodge for Dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Masai mara

After breakfast, full day game viewing in Maasai mara which offers absolutely unique variety of animals. The reason being that this hilly region is both humid and fertile and is crossed by Mara and Talek rivers full of crocodiles and hippos. The abundance of water and excellent availability of food are the reasons maasai mara has greatest population of wild animals in the whole of Africa.

Masai Mara National Reserve is considered Kenya’s best park and one of Africa’s highest wildlife density regions for predators. The reserve covers 583 square miles (1510 square kilometers) of outstanding wilderness in southwest Kenya. The location, wildlife, activities and comfortable moderate climate puts Mara at the top of the list when the public reserve was first established; accommodate Maasai cattle grazing on their ancestral lands. Although the decrease in land area may be considered a letdown for wildlife conservation and protection at its infancy, the animals and habitats of the reserve found new allies to ensure their survival for generations to come. Many private conservancies have been introduced to protect the land that surrounds the reserve, thereby providing more area for wildlife. The lands not only protect habitats for resident species, but also preserve a critical part of the route used by wildebeests and zebras.

You will be driven by the river which is a great place to spot wildlife. This area is a photographer delight where with any luck you will be able to take amazing pictures of the hippos and crocodiles in the water. The small size funnels animals into a tight space; park rules allows for off road driving which means that guests can venture into plains with hundreds and thousands of animals. Return to the lodge for Dinner and Overnight.

Maasai village visit:  US$ 20 per person: You may wish to visit a maasai village to see their traditional life. Photography is NOT prohibited here. A maasai guide at the village will escort and explain to you in English about their lives. A maasai lady will give you a lecture on how to make a beaded bracelet at their library. It will be one of your souvenirs once completed. Duration: approx. 2 hours, starting from: 10:00 AM. 

Hot air balloon safari US$ 420 per person : What could be more uplifting than an early morning safari in a hot air balloon flying over vast plains of Africa?
