fuck yesss my podcast app of choice, antenna pod, has like a locally generated knock off spotify wrapped I'm so hype. heres the most interesting (to me) parts:

I know I listen to so many fucking podcasts but seeing it written out like that is insane. I listen to SO MANY fucking podcasts.

I like how I get a clean pass for not hoarding despite being subscribed to 29 different podcasts I don't actually listen to. They're like "you listen to so much you're clearly gonna get to these eventually." I appreciate their optimism. And I should check out Higgeldy-Piggeldy Whale Statements again.

My summertime Dungeons and Daddies mental breakdown was so powerful it put both the regular and the patreon feed on here. It's weird that my most recent bout of NADDPod listening happened this year, timeline wise I know that to be true but due to aforementioned summer of daddies and sadness it feels like it was forever ago. Maitenance Phase was been a good addition this year, between catching up and occasionally using it to fall asleep it makes sense it would end up on the top listened. And Doctor Huh has been a blast, I had a few months where I wasn't lidtening as frequently again during the simmer breakdown but I caught up recently and its such a good time. I feel like shilling it more than the others cause for some reason its the only of the like 'guys you with dayjobs' podcasts that ended up on this part despite that being a majority of what I listen to in terms of percentage of the different pidcasts. Also I just remembered one of the hosts followed me on here lmao. Sometime this next year I need to either finally get around to getting my own credit card or increase the amount I pay my mom monthly to use hers for patreon stuff so I can get their bonus content.

Anyways yeah that's my Antennapod Echo. I've been using them on this phone since 2021, who knows how long before that. this is the first year theyve done this, I hope they do it again cause it was really fun for me ^_^

Tumblr search is garbage. I feel like you recently recommended a podcatcher app but apparently I may have dreamed it. Is there a podcatcher you use or like?

I like the open source app AntennaPod. I've been using it since 2021 and I have zero complaints.

Because Tumblr Search is awful and people ask me for recommendations like this a lot, I do have a reclist up on my website.

I saw your post about Psy being a terrible landlord, can you tell me the name of podcast you heard it on?

oh it's called The Dark Side of Seoul. it's hosted by two foreigners who live in korea and work as tour guides for english speakers. they tend to talk about history and current events, things like that. i treat the episodes as an intro to certain topics? you can tell they do actual research and aren't speaking out of their ass and that's a plus. very cynical guys too, like if you believe the good PR kdramas gave SK and start listening to that podcast... then you're up for a surprise. they had an episode on korean food and how 'oh it's sooo healthy and good for you' is basically government propaganda??? and that one really made me Think. however as usual, i tend to look things up later myself, trust no one!!!

i listen via AntennaPod (very good app), i'm pretty sure it's on Spotify etc

I knew resetting my phone to factory settings would end bad but I didn't expect it to end so bad. Not only did I forget to backup my Antennapod info, but I also forgot how much changes after reset so now my brain is overwhelmed and I've been crying about it for 3 hours now

2023 Podcast Wrap-Up

I listen to a lot of Podcasts. I’ve been doing it for a very, very long time. Some have come and gone and some have been stalwarts in my line up. I’ve used a variety of Podcatcher apps, but this year, my current one, AntennaPod, gave me a little mini wrap up for the year. It seemed like a good time to talk about my Podcast habits. This list has no surprises for me anyway. Other than I subscribed…

What podcast apps do my fellow android users have? I liked Stitcher until it was discontinued, then I switched to Google Podcasts but they're discontinuing that too! I just want a podcast player app that has no ads, no subscriptions, and isn't Spotify. It doesn't have to be free but I REALLY don't want to pay a subscription fee.

After searching around it looks like AntennaPod is my best bet. It's ad-free plus it's open-source which is cool. I'm gonna download it and see how it is.

Oh! Full episodes are back on Distractible's youtube channel, and GMFST now has a bunch of full uploads on their channel, too!

Someone on Reddit crunched the numbers on Mark's nudes gambit back when he first announced it, and this does feel like the natural result of that. That person said that leveraging the nudes for the #1 spot would increase the ad revenue on the episodes to the point where selling the nudes and donating all of that money to charity functionally wouldn't matter because he would have made that money up on the front end with the ad impressions anyway.

I guess that happened and then some, because they were withholding episodes on youtube in order to bottleneck everyone to listen through podcast apps (long before the gambit). Guess that doesn't matter anymore.

At least now I can more easily link to episodes or make clips if I need to. And I'm glad AntennaPod works on my phone, but I prefer to be on my computer over my phone for everything. The VLC RSS method still works, though, so I'll always have that if they close up the youtube channels again.

I love having their shows open while I'm on my Switch cleaning up 100% runs and extra quests in games, and when I'm at work, the least suspicious way to listen is through my workstation with a hidden yt tab open so people think I'm listening to a conference call.

Hi I know you've asked this before but I can't find the sites or apps you said you use for podcasts, I've started working with your guide to degoogle myself and I don't want to keep streaming apps and instead use that money for things that go directly to creators but I'm still unsure on what apps to use

Antennapod! I've been using it since April 2021. Before that I had been using Stitcher and Antennapod is so much better. There's their site. The one downside I've found is that it doesn't seem to transfer data between devices even if you have an account? Like when I got a new phone I couldn't find a way to get it to see my history and subscriptions. I didn't look particularly hard, so it's possible there is a way and I just didn't find it.

And I use Phonograph as an MP3 player. (I want to say that it's great but it recently emptied all my playlists so i have to rebuild them, but it's done that once and I've been using it for at least two years so you know what, I'll take it but I'll let you know that there are some flaws).
